While learning second base is important, the Yankees lack shortstop depth. Hence, it’s important to keep him sharp at shortstop as well.
LF Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-5, RBI, 3 K
Volpe and Dominguez only went 2-for-10, but they combined to score the winning run in the 8th.
DH J.C. Escarra: 2-for-5, 2B (10), R
.290/.375/.540 in 144 PA. He entered today in a 0-for-16 slump.

Efficiency, not typically an issue with Beck, eluded him today (94 pitches). Season: 2.66 ERA (115 IP, 84 H, 39 R, 34 ER, 10 HR, 36 BB, 126 K). After years of dealing with injuries, Beck has put together back-to-back injury-free campaigns. Don’t blame me if he is diagnosed with a random injury tomorrow.

I am going to assume that adding Hanner to the 40-man was a block move over a “We are going to use him” move. That’s valid, as you don’t want to give another team a free shot at someone who has been effecitve.

3.58 ERA (55.1 IP, 37 H, 25 R, 22 ER, 5 HR, 26 BB, 50 K). Messinger entered the day allowing at least one run in four straight appearances, so it’s nice to see him have a clean inning.
Somerset (55-53; 18-21 in the second half) (Lost to Akron, 8-7. They fell behind 7-0, tied it, but ended up losing anyway)

Avina was ejected by the home plate umpire. Hey, it’s better than the dreaded “Injury delay”…

Moylan is hitting .254/.314/.457 in 153 PA at this level. He hit .232/.338/.392 in 269 games for Hudson Valley. Has something clicked? Not likely, as the strikeout rate is high.

Palencia has homered twice in his last three games. He had one career HR in 199 games entering 2026. Baseball!

The hype around Smith was all about his spin rate. Methinks the ball isn’t spinning. He has a 5.38 ERA over 92 innings. He’s allowed 20 home runs.

Activated off the Development list, the little-used Hernandez compiles his first multi-hit game since April 17, 2025. He has played in five games this season after appearing in ten games last season. You can earn some money with his job, but it can’t be the most exciting work.
CF Maika Niu: 2-for-5, HR (1), SF, 4 RBI, 2 R, BB, K
Niu’s first career home run was a 2-run blast in the top of the 12th.
DH Kyle West: 1-for-7, RBI, R, 3 K
2B Robbie Burnett: 0-for-4, RBI, R, 3 BB, 3 K
Burnett’s first professional start at second base. He played the position 69 times in college, including 20 games with Georgia last season. Anyway, with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th, he committed a throwing error that tied the game and prolonged my agony.
1B David McCann: 4-for-7, 2 HR (3), 5 RBI, 2 R, SB (1)
McCann is 7-for-19 since his promotion as he sets a personal best for hits in a game (not RBI, as he had a 7-RBI effort on July 4th). His second home run extended the lead in the 12th, giving me the needed confidence that this game would finally end (Greenville still made it interesting in the bottom half).
SS Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek: 1-for-7, 2B (1), K
Martin-Grudzielanek is 5-for-26 since his promotion. Including his time with Tampa, this is his 20th double this season.
LF Dean Toigo: 2-for-6, 2B (1), R, K
5-for-14 with a double and a triple.
3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 3-for-5, HR (6), 2 RBI, 3 R, 3 SB (17), BB, K
Tejeda gave Hudson Valley the lead with a 2-run home run in the top of the 11th, though it didn’t hold up. He hasn’t hit much since his promotion, though he has drawn his share of walks and stolen some bases.

LHP Allen Facundo: 4.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 9 K
At this level: 5.31 ERA (76.1 IP, 56 H, 47 R, 45 ER, 5 HR, 57 BB, 102 K). 57 walks in 76.1 innings is, as they say, not ideal. Facundo slipped through the Rule 5 draft last year. Would he again? The results aren’t there, but there’s intrigue with him in a bullpen role.

Tampa (62-45; 27-14 in the second half) (Doubled up Clearwater again, 10-5 (they won 4-2 yesterday)).
As of now, there’s nobody in the Tarpons’ vicinity for the second-half title Well, Clearwater is but they don’t matter since they won the first-half title. That said, Tuesday starts a huge 6-game series against 20-19 Dunedin, the biggest threat to their playoff hopes.

Kilby is 4-for-21 (.190) without an extra-base hit in August. He has drawn seven walks, giving him a .393 OBP.

Puello’s third straight multi-hit effort. He is hitting .269/.343/.515.

An Italian shortstop with a first name of Anthony? It’s been a while since the Yankees had one of those.
1B Tyce Armstrong: 1-for-5, HR (1), RBI, R
Armstrong launches his first professional home run. Just as a reminder that he was a power-hitting beast for Baylor this year, cranking out 24 home runs. That was good for fifth in the Big 12.
RF Diego Castellanos: 3-for-4, RBI, 2 R, BB
I will be intrigued by him since at least one major college had interest in him when he entered the transfer portal.
CF Brando Mayea: 2-for-5, RBI, R, SB (10)
Mayea has hit safely in 15 straight starts (went 0-for-1 after entering the game late yesterday).

DSL Yankees (28-19)
Day off. They are three games behind the DSL Phillies in the race for the division crown. Their 28-19 record ranks 13th in the massive league, and they would be in the 16-team postseason tournament (the “DSL Cup”) if the season ended today.
Only one division leader has a record worse than the Yankees. That’s a good thing, because division winners get automatic berths.
The season ends on August 18th. There’s six games left on the schedule with plenty of teams bunched up. To be comfortable, they will probably need a 4-2 mark.
DSL Bombers (20-27-1)
The Bombers have no shot at the playoffs.
