Notes:
The draft analysis above now includes all 20 rounds.
The Yankees have released RHP Chase Chaney from his minor league deal. He was the Angels’ 18th-round pick in 2018 and also spent time in the Twins organization.
The 26-year-old appeared in 16 games (7 starts) for Somerset, posting a 4.55 ERA (5.75 FIP) over 63.1 innings. His strikeout rate was only 17%.
I have seen the Mason Miller rumors. The Yankees’ system is not in perfect shape, but could they find a package for Miller? Yes. Can other teams potentially offer more? Certainly. Miller is entering arbitration for the second time and has team control through 2029. It’s hard to predict his 2027 arbitration salary because we don’t know what the system will look like.
The Padres will aim high and demand George Lombard Jr. as part of any deal. Failing that, the Yankees could try to entice them with a combination of pitchers and lower-level position players. The Padres could request that the Yankees take on a bad contract to lower the prospect cost, but nobody in their right mind wants the Xander Bogaerts or Manny Machado deals on their books. Fernando Tatis‘ deal is heavily backloaded, and he hasn’t exactly had a good year. I am not sure if this is a perfect match, since the Padres are looking for legitimate young talent rather than a salary dump for whatever they can get. There is always one variable that we don’t know: Do the Padres view the Yankees’ system in a positive light?
Scranton (48-43)
Day off.
Somerset (44-43)
Day off.
Hudson Valley (41-44)

Tampa (50-37)

FCL Yankees (27-25) (Lost to the DSL Blue Jays, 13-8)
1B-3B Richard Matic: 0-for-4, BB, 2 K
Matic is down to .286 as he is 6-for-41 in July (0-for-17 in his last five games).
SS George Lombard Jr.: 1-for-1, HR (2), RBI, 2 R, 2 BB
Not sure when he will be promoted, but so far, so good for Jacob Lombard’s brother.
PH-1B Diego Flores: 0-for-1, 2 R, BB
CF Wilberson De Pena: 3-for-4, 2B (18), HR (16), 3 RBI, 2 R, CS (6), BB, K
.345/.401/.684 in 227 PA (18 doubles, 2 triples, 16 HR, 61 RBI, 43 R, 19-for-25 SB, 7.5% BB, 19.4% K). De Pena leads the league in all three Triple Crown categories, and those leads are comfortable (12 points in average, four home runs, a whopping 19 RBI). He also leads the league in doubles and slugging percentage. It is not hyperbole to say he is having a historical FCL (formerly GCL) campaign. Does that make him a top prospect? Of course not. He is 19, and we need to see him perform against full-season competition. The crazy thing, however, is that he never hit like this in the DSL. He didn’t give one hint that a season like this was possible.
DH Queni Pineda: 0-for-4, BB, 2 K
3B-2B Leni Done: 0-for-4, SB (29), HBP
RF Jose Castro: 2-for-3, RBI, R, 2 SB (27), BB, K
.296/.476/.528 in 147 PA. He is 8-for-9 this month stealing bases, though these are his first successful attempts since July 4th.
LF Francisco Vilorio: 1-for-4, RBI
2B-SS Dexters Peralta: 0-for-2, R, CS (2), 2 BB
Peralta was keeping up with De Pena’s home run pace but has fallen off. He doesn’t have any extra-base hits in his last ten games.
C Justin Capellan: 1-for-3, 2B (10)
C Carlos Rondon: 0-for-1, K
RHP Danny Flatt (L, 0-1): 2.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, HR
LHP Marco Manzano: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
The 22-year-old owns a 105/68 K/BB in 72.2 career innings.
RHP Brian Hendry: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Huey Morrill: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
RHP Brian Arias: 1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
RHP Stanly Alcantara: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
DSL Yankees (20-11) (Split two games with the DSL Rockies)
Game 1 (Lost, 13-10. This was the conclusion of a game started on July 9th.)
CF Isaias Castillo: 2-for-2, 2 R
Castillo didn’t return to the field when the game was resumed. He also did not play in Game 2.
RF Manuel Aguilar: 1-for-2, 2 BB, K
SS Stiven Marinez: 1-for-4, 3 R, SB (19), HBP, BB
RF-LF Yostin Pena: 3-for-5, 2 2B (8), 4 RBI, 3 R, SB (21), BB
DH Juan Torres: 3-for-5, 3 RBI, R, SB (13)
Because this game is now official, he has seven straight multi-hit games.
1B John Rosillo: 1-for-2, HR (1), 2 RBI, R
If you are going to be 1-for-17, you may as well make that “one” a big one. This is the 18-year-old’s debut campaign.
Game 2 (Won, 8-6)
SS Stiven Marinez: 1-for-3, 2 R, BB
.303/.439/.529 in 148 PA. He played well here last year in his debut campaign, but has turned it up a few notches. An interesting prospect for your long-range radar.
C Juan Martinez: 2-for-3, 3 R, SB (14), BB
.395/.489/.487 in 92 PA. The 18-year-old is off to a nice start in his professional career.
CF Yostin Pena: 3-for-4, 3B (2), HR (7), 4 RBI, 3 R, K
.378/.463/.664 in 147 PA. The Yankees nabbed him when the Cardinals voided his contract (due to age-related concerns), and he has performed extremely well. He has 52 RBI, 40 runs, and a 22-for-23 stolen base rate in 30 games.
2B Juan Torres: 1-for-4, 2B (17), RBI
And this ends the multi-hit game streak at seven. However, thanks to the 4-for-9 day, he is over .400 (.402/.462/.685).
RF Manuel Aguilar: 1-for-4, 2 K
RHP Jhosneyker Colina: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR
In a fun twist, Colina was also the starter in Game 1. He is the next Wilbur Wood!
RHP Varis Villarreal (W, 1-2): 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
RHP Emanuel Vargas (S, 2): 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K
DSL Bombers (13-19) (Lost to the DSL Colorado, 8-6. Bonus baby Mani Cedeno has been MIA the past few days, so that’s something to monitor)
2B Dariel Santana: 2-for-5, 2B (2), 3B (3), R, K
3B Carlos Bello: 0-for-3, R, BB, 2 K
RF David Carrera: 3-for-4, 3B (1), 2 RBI, R, SB (4), BB
DH Poly Ojeda: 1-for-5, HR (3), 4 RBI, R, K
Ojeda, a 5’8″ catcher, is hitting .339/.481/.532 in his first 20 professional games.
SS Germayhoni Beltre: 0-for-4, SB (11), CS (2), K
LHP Junior Tavera: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, HR
RHP Higor Requena: 4 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, HR
