The Yankees were carrying 15 position players and 13 pitchers, so they balanced that out today by demoting Jasson Dominguez for Bradley Hanner.
Let’s be real, however: the Yankees don’t need Hanner on their roster. They could have called up a 14th pitcher at any time if the bullpen has a day of overwork.
This is about Dominguez. He continuously makes lazy mistakes in the outfield. I am not saying he is lazy in an “uncaring” sense. I am saying “lazy” in an “I can easily pick up this ball with minimal effort” sense. There is a difference, but it doesn’t matter. Neither is acceptable.
Dominguez was labeled as a Martian. The kid with every skill known to mankind, including some we didn’t know existed. Despite obvious athletic ability, he hasn’t shown many of those tools.
I said at the deadline that the trade for Heliot Ramos was the end of Dominguez. While Ramos has an All-Star Game on his resume, he’s hardly a special talent you acquire at the expense of a young talent you believe in.
