Notes

Anthony Volpe is on his way to the Bronx to take the roster spot of Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Volpe hit with plenty of power since his demotion, launching eight home runs in his last 17 games. He went 16-for-37 in his last ten games.

Before you say it, you are right: it’s Triple-A. Volpe has yet to show any offensive consistency in MLB. There is no arguing against that. He will get plenty of playing time down the stretch to prove that it’s different this time around. I am not confident in that, but he has had stretches of solid hitting in the past. The Yankees aren’t asking him to be productive for 162 games. They are asking for him to be productive for 17 games.  It isn’t like they were overflowing with options.

Scranton (74-63; 37-26 in the second half) (Defeated Rochester, 4-1, in a 7-inning game. Due to a long rain delay before the game started, they agreed to play seven innings. Rochester falls to 38-27. Indianapolis and Worcester have 28 losses. Reminder that their season goes until September 20th)

LF Jarred Kelenic1-for-4, RBI, SB (10)
SS Max Schuemann1-for-3, HR (5), RBI, R, K
C J.C. Escarra2-for-3
Escarra has a 10-game hitting streak (18-for-39)
2B Marco Luciano: 0-for-2, BB, K
DH Yanquiel Fernandez0-for-3
3B Tyler Hardman0-for-3, 2 K
1B Ernesto Martinez Jr.0-for-2, R, BB
RF Kenedy Corona0-for-3, K
CF Duke Ellis: 2-for-3, HR (5), 2 RBI,, 2 R, SB (51), K
Ellis hit five home runs in 2024 and 2025, as well. Consistent!

RHP Brendan Beck: (W, 10-2) 5.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K
2.75 ERA (131 IP, 96 H, 45 R, 40 ER, 10 HR, 39 BB, 146 K).  After games of May 7th, his ERA was 6.00. Beck has a lot of team control and three options remaining. He may be worth keeping on the 40-man roster, though he will always be teetering on the line as players are signed and/or acquired.
RHP Bradley Hanner: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Yerry de los Santos1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

Somerset (71-63; 34-31 in the second half) (Lost to Hartford, 4-0. The best they can do is go 38-31. The worst Reading can do is 37-31. In other words, they need a miracle to earn the second-half title)

While listed as “active,” Luis Durango hasn’t played since September 5th.

CF Jace Avina1-for-3, 2B (28), CS (5), BB
Avina leads the organization with his 28 doubles. Juan Torres, who played in 53 DSL games, is tied for second with 26. I don’t know what will become of Torres (nobody can project a DSL kid), but he is a prospect that should be talked about more.
SS Core Jackson0-for-4
At this level: .250/.318/.355 in 85 PA. Regardless of what happens the rest of this week, this will go down as a successful season for Jackson.
2B Roderick Arias0-for-4, 2 K
C Omar Alfonzo0-for-3, 3 K
RF DJ Gladney0-for-3, K
3B Coby Morales: 2-for-3, 2B (21), BB, K
Morales has a 9-game hitting streak (11-for-33).
DH Manuel Palencia0-for-4, 2 K
Palencia is 4-for-23 without an extra-base hit in September (22-for-66 with four doubles and seven home runs in August).
1B Josh Moylan1-for-3, K
LF Cole Gabrielson0-for-3

RHP Dom Hamel: (L, 0-3) 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
The definition of a tough luck loss.
RHP Clarke Schmidt1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Yerry Rodriguez1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Trent Sellers1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
