Yankees MILB: A Day of Home Runs (15)

Top 30 Prospects

Injury Log

Notes:

The Yankees have released veteran reliever Dylan Coleman from his minor league contract. The 29-year-old pitched in 19 games for Scranton, posting a 2.57 ERA (5.31 FIP) over 21 innings with a 27.7% K and 21.3% BB. Coleman had a strong season with the 2022 Royals, during which he experienced a velocity spike that never returned.

As I feared when he was pinch-hit for on Sunday, infielder Kaeden Kent was placed on the injured list by Hudson Valley. Kent has been a bright spot in a dim system, hitting .302/.359/.433 (107 wRC+; 8.2% BB, 16.1% K) with a South Atlantic League-leading 20 doubles in 354 PA.  Additionally, he has scored 55 runs and stolen 20 bases. He is one of two Yankees’ full-season prospects hitting over .300 (Jonathan Ornelas is the other).

Scranton (45-41) (Mauled Buffalo, 18-3)

C J.C. Escarra: 2-for-6, 2B (2), RBI, R
CF Spencer Jones0-for-4, BB, 2 K
Crazy that they scored 18 runs and Jones had nothing to do with it.
2B Marco Luciano0-for-5, RBI, R, BB, 2 K
RF Yanquiel Fernandez2-for-6, RBI, R, K
3B Oswaldo Cabrera: 3-for-4, 2 HR (9), 3 RBI, 5 R, 2 BB, K
How do you evaluate Cabrera at this point? He plays everywhere, but you worry about his MLB bat. However, he is crushing the ball for Scranton. Yes, perhaps he is the definition of a Quadruple-A player at this point.
1B Tyler Hardman: 4-for-6, 2B (9), 2 HR (7), 4 RBI, 4 R
Hardman reaches 20 home runs (he hit 13 for Somerset) for the 4th time in his 6-year career.  He has three multi-HR efforts this season (two since his promotion).
DH Ernesto Martinez Jr.: 3-for-4, HR (15, grand slam), SF, 5 RBI, 2 R, BB
The grand slam was hit off a catcher, but nobody will remember that a week from now.  He is hitting .251 with 15 home runs and 44 RBI. He hit only six home runs in 80 games last season.
LF Duke Ellis: 2-for-4, HR (4), 2 RBI, 2 R, SB (35), 2 BB
SS Jonathan Ornelas: 1-for-4, RBI, R, BB, 2 K

LHP Will Brian1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Scranton didn’t have a starter for tonight, so they went to a bullpen game. At this level: 1.93 ERA (9.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 7 BB, 13 K)
RHP Zach Messinger1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
RHP Eric Reyzelman1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Reyzelman owns a 13.00 ERA at this level. Suffice to say, he needed an outing like this.
RHP Kervin Castro1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Carson Coleman1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR
RHP Danny Watson: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Somerset (42-40) (Lost to Reading, 2-1)

LF Jackson Castillo0-for-4, 2 K
Castillo is 4-for-23 in July.  The good news is that he has struck out only three times.
CF Jace Avina1-for-4
Avina is in a 3-for-23 slump. One thing helping him is six walks during this timeframe.
3B Coby Morales1-for-4, K
RF DJ Gladney2-for-4, 2B (15), HR (15), RBI, R, 2 K
Gladney is showing off his power. He has 32 extra-base hits in 69 games. One reason why he is a stalled prospect is the strikeouts – he has a 32.99% rate this season.
DH Nicholas Torres0-for-4, K
Torres has fallen off a cliff. The 33-year-old Mexican League hero was worth the flyer, but it isn’t working out at the moment.
1B Josh Moylan0-for-4, 2 K
C Tomas Frick3-for-4, K
The University of North Carolina product doesn’t play much as an organizational catcher. He was 4-for-28 entering tonight.
2B Connor McGinnis: 2-for-4, 2B (7), K
McGinnis is 9-for-19 in July.
SS Owen Cobb0-for-4, K

LHP Xavier Rivas: (L, 4-4)  6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, HR
4.63 ERA (58.1 IP, 42 H, 33 R, 30 ER, 12 HR, 30 BB, 84 K).  Only a .195 BAA and a lot of strikeouts, but those walks and home runs are great equalizers.
RHP Michael Arias1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Matt Keating1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
4.76 ERA (22.2 IP, 17 H, 13 R, 12 ER, 4 HR, 18 BB, 35 K).
RHP Tony Rossi1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Since promotion: 4.66 ERA (9.2 IP, 12 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 0 HR, 2 BB, 15 K).  The BABIP is .480, which is insane.

Hudson Valley (38-42) (Defeated Rome, 3-2, in ten innings)

3B Roderick Arias0-for-4, BB, K
Arias gets the first crack at leading off with Kent on the injured list. He’s been scorching lately.
SS Core Jackson: 1-for-3, R, SB (24), 2 BB, K
DH Eric Genther2-for-3, 2B (12), HR (8), RBI, R, 2 BB, K
.262/.398/.418 in 305 PA. He is old for the level (24) but is having a solid campaign while earning some time as a catcher.
1B Kyle West0-for-5, R, 3 K
Nothing like going 0-for-5 but scoring the winning run as the “ghost” runner.
CF Wilson Rodriguez0-for-4, BB, 2 K
Rodriguez doesn’t play much center field (third start this season), but if he is capable of handling it, his prospect status goes up. Could he be auditioning for a trade? Of course.
2B Enmanuel Tejeda0-for-4, BB, K
The walk-off “reach on error to allow the ghost runner to score”.  (Note: While I hate this rule in MLB, it’s fine in minor league baseball. There is no reason for games to go 15-16 innings)
C Josue Gonzalez0-for-4, 3 K
RF Camden Troyer1-for-4, K
LF Robbie Burnett0-for-2, BB, K
  PH-LF Luis Durango0-for-1, K

RHP Bryce Cunningham4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 6 K
4.21 ERA (47 IP, 35 H, 26 R, 22 ER, 7 HR, 27 BB, 46 K)
RHP Brandon Decker1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
3.09 ERA (32 IP, 27 H, 14 R, 11 ER, 2 HR, 12 BB, 38 K).
RHP Bryce Warrecker1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Hansel Rincon1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
3.91 ERA (25.1 IP, 17 H, 15 R, 11 ER, 17 BB, 40 K). Rincon was hot before his last appearance (1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER). As of now, we will consider that a bad outing in a sea of strong ones.
RHP Kevin Stevens1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Andrew Landry: (W, 2-2)  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Tampa (47-35) (Shut down Clearwater, 7-0. The pitching has stepped up lately)

3B Jackson Lovich: 2-for-4, HR (15), RBI, 2 R, BB
Lovich hit a leadoff home run.
2B Hans Montero1-for-4, R, BB
C Luis Puello1-for-3, HR (8), RBI, 2 R, SB (5), 2 BB, 2 K
Puello has eight home runs and 30 RBI in 39 games at this level (.268/.327/.503).
SS Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek2-for-3, 2B (14), 2 RBI, SB (26), 2 BB
RF Brando Mayea1-for-5, 2 K
LF Willy Montero1-for-5, R, SB (13), K
Montero was activated from the injured list today.
C David McCann2-for-4, 2B (4), RBI, R, K
I won’t claim there is a big prospect here, but he is hitting well in 21 games at this level (.313/.416/.547).
DH Engelth Urena1-for-4, 2B (13), RBI, 3 K
Urena’s OPS is at .700, which isn’t meant to impress you.  He is 6-for-17 with a pair of doubles and a home run in July.
CF Isael Arias0-for-3, SB (4), BB, 3 K
Walking Arias, who

LHP Justin West: (W, 5-3) 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 2 K
A bend-don’t-break performance by West, who owns a 4.83 ERA in 69 innings (70 H, 40 R, 37 ER, 9 HR, 24 BB, 77 K).
LHP Jose Ledesma1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Greysen Carter1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
3.82 ERA (33 IP, 21 H, 18 R, 14 ER, 2 HR, 27 BB, 37 K). It’s not unusual, but Carter was humming tonight. He threw four pitches 100+ MPH, topping out at 100.3.

FCL Yankees (24-24) (Defeated the Blue Jays, 8-7)

3B Richard Matic2-for-5, 2B (14), R, K
Back-to-back multi-hit efforts. He leads the FCL in runs (55) and is second in doubles (14).
CF Wilberson De Pena1-for-5, HR (14), 2 RBI, R, 2 K
De Pena leads the FCL in doubles (16), home runs (14), SLG (.667), and RBI (55).  If you sort the leaderboards by SLG, he comes up second – but the player in first (Franklin Primera (BOS)) has been promoted to Single-A and will soon no longer qualify.
DH Queni Pineda2-for-4, RBI, R, SB (11), CS (4), BB, K
Pineda has three multi-hit efforts in his last four games.
2B Leni Done0-for-3, R, SB (28), 2 BB, K
LF Jose Castro1-for-3, SF, RBI, 3 R, BB
RF Francisco Vilorio3-for-5, 2B (5), RBI
Back-to-back 3-hit efforts.
SS Dexters Peralta1-for-4, SF, 2 RBI, 2 K
Low average, high walks (14.9%), extremely high strikeouts (35,1% – yikes), and some production (11 home runs, 39 RBI in 48 games).
C Justin Capellan1-for-5, 2B (9), RBI, K
1B Diego Flores2-for-4, 2B (1), R, SB (1), K

RHP Danny Flatt2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
RHP Jorge Luna0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Mack Estrada1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Sunayro Martina1 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
RHP Brian Arias1.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
RHP Austin Breedlove (W, 2-1): 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
RHP Carlos Rondon (S, 1): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Rondon is a catcher with five games on the hill this season. He has only five plate appearances (0-for-4 with a walk).

DSL Yankees (16-10) (Rallied past DSL Arizona Black, 9-8. The high-octane offense scored three in the 9th to win it)

LF-CF Isaias Castillo1-for-4, HR (9), RBI, 2 R, BB, 3 K
Castillo hit a leadoff blast. He has nine home runs in 25 games; he hit one in 27 games in 2025.
SS Stiven Marinez1-for-4, R, CS (3), BB, K
CF-RF Yostin Pena1-for-3, 2 R, SB (20), 2 BB, K
Pena is making a mockery of this league, which only means he needs to be challenged elsewhere.
2B Juan Torres3-for-3, 2 RBI, R, SB (12), 2 BB
Speaking of making a mockery of this league. Torres has eight multi-hit efforts in his last ten games and is hitting .390/.469/.695.
C Kenneth Melendez1-for-3, K
1B Edgar Jimenez2-for-4, HR (2), RBI, R, K

RHP Angel Salazar3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
LHP Luis Rodriguez2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K

DSL Bombers (12-15) (Knocked off the DSL Rockies, 10-4)

2B Dariel Santana3-for-6, K
The 18-year-old is hitting .216/.431/.275 in 72 PA. This is his debut season.
SS Mani Cedeno2-for-5, HR (3), 2 RBI, R, BB, K
11 extra-base hits (8 doubles, 3 HR) in 24 games. Last year, he had 11 (5 doubles, 3 triples, 3 HR) in 49 games. There are signs of maturity, though the strikeout rate (31.5%) remains high.
3B Carlos Bello2-for-6, 2B (6), 2 R
CF David Carrera1-for-4, HR (3), 2 RBI, 2 R, BB
DH Alessandro Rodriguez2-for-3, 2 2B (6), RBI, 2 R, HBP, BB, K
Rodriguez has a 5-game hitting streak.
C Poly Ojeda3-for-5, HR (2), 4 RBI, R
The 17-year-old is off to a good start in his career. He is hitting .347/.515/.510 with more walks (12) than strikeouts (7).
RF Stalen Ramirez2-for-5, R, K
Listed as a catcher, he has started only one game behind the dish. He has 12 starts at first base, one at second, and one in right field.
1B Alfred Ciriaco1-for-3, R, 2 BB
LF Sebastian Pinto2-for-5, RBI

LHP Junior Tavera: 4 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
LHP Ronald Tejada (W, 2-1): 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
RHP Breidy Adames2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
RHP Oscar Vasquez1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
