Yankees MILB 6/29: Wilberson De Pena Homers Again

Top 30 Prospects

Injury Log

Notes:

I am typing this as the Tigers took a 7-0 lead.

Ryan Weathers didn’t compete.
Jasson Dominguez ran over Jazz Chisholm Jr. with an elbow that would impress Ric Flair.
Cody Bellinger dropped a flyball, then fell asleep on a single as the Tigers stole an extra run.  By the way, where exactly is Bellinger’s bat when we need it?
Aaron Boone is trying to convince us that he sees “positive” signs with Austin Wells. I am all for positivity (no, I’m not), but what are these positive signs?  Are we making stuff up now?
Is Michael Kay still harping on the Tigers pulling someone from the lineup in the third inning? It’s 7-0, Michael.
Now, Jasson Dominguez ran into the wall playing a position he has rarely played in his professional career.

I am sure I am leaving stuff out, but it’s only the 6th inning.

FCL Yankees (21-21) (Defeated the Blue Jays, 5-2)

3B Richard Matic2-for-5, R, 2 K
Matic gets back on track after one bad game. He has struck out five times in his last two games, but his K% remains strong (18.97%).
DH Wilberson De Pena3-for-5, HR (12), 2 RBI, 2 R, K
In 2025, the Yankees’ FCL leader in home runs was John Cristino, who hit four.  The last time someone reached double digits was John Cruz, who hit ten in 2023.  Including when the league was called the GCL (through 2019), the most home runs hit by anyone in this league is 15, by Dakota Kotowski (PHI) in 2023. That includes records going back to 2006.  The moral of the story is that it is very hard to hit home runs at this level, and De Pena is doing it with ease.
C Queni Pineda1-for-3, 2B (5), RBI, 2 BB
2B Leni Done0-for-4, 2 K
CF Jose Castro1-for-3, 2 R, 2 SB (19), BB, K

LF Francisco Vilorio0-for-4, 2 K
The bonus baby continues to struggle (9-for-52; .173)

Bad game today, but Peralta is the only player other than De Pena with double-digit home runs in this league (he has 10).

.370/.436/.679 in 94 PA. He has three multi-hit efforts in his last four games.
