Notes:
Happy Father’s Day! While I have more opinions on the draft proposal and the need for catching help, I will save those for another day. I hope all the fathers reading this had a great day, regardless of the Yankees’ game result.
Scranton (37-37) (Defeated Columbus, 5-4)
SS Oswaldo Cabrera: 2-for-5, R
Cabrera’s fifth consecutive multi-hit effort. On June 3rd, his OPS was .623. It is now .721.
2B Jonathan Ornelas: 0-for-3, SAC, 2 K
DH Yanquiel Fernandez: 1-for-4, 2B (8), 2 RBI, 2 K
It’s funny how switches turn on and off with hitters. He couldn’t buy an extra-base hit forever, but now has five (2 doubles, 3 home runs) in his last five games.
CF Garrett Martin: 1-for-4, HR (1), RBI, R, K
Martin’s first Triple-A home run after swatting 21 for Somerset. His 22 total home runs are tied for third-best in all of minor league baseball (as of this writing).
3B Tyler Hardman: 1-for-3, R, SB (4), BB, K
1B Ernesto Martinez Jr.: 3-for-4, R, K
LF Kenedy Corona: 1-for-4, 2B (6), 2 RBI
RF Cole Gabrielson: 1-for-4
C Abrahan Gutierrez: 0-for-3, R, BB, 2 K
RHP Brendan Beck: (W, 7-2) 5.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, HR
3.22 ERA (81 IP, 57 H, 34 R, 29 ER, 9 HR, 27 BB, 86 K). While I don’t see Beck as a massive prospect, are there teams out there who would be interested in an MLB-ready pitcher of his caliber at the deadline? As a headliner, no. As a throw-in, yes.
RHP Danny Watson: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Carlos Lagrange: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Lagrange was asked to air it out for one inning today and topped out at 100.9 MPH.
RHP Angel Chivilli: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Eric Reyzelman (S, 1): 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Reyzelman came off the injured list today. His Triple-A struggles continued.
Somerset (37-32) (Defeated Portland, 6-4. A solid first half for the Patriots, but it wasn’t enough to overtake Hartford, as they are the first-half champions)
LF Jackson Castillo: 1-for-4, SF, RBI, K
.265/.349/.400 in 229 PA (10 doubles, 1 triple, 5 HR, 27 RBI, 30 R, 4-for-5 SB, 10.5% BB, 24.0% K). While he has a .438 SLG in June, he has zero extra-base hits in his last seven games.
DH Jace Avina: 3-for-5, 2 RBI
Avina has hit safely in all four games since coming off the injured list, including three multi-hit efforts. He is hitting .295/.377/.594 with 15 doubles and 15 home runs in 236 PA.
CF DJ Gladney: 0-for-5, K
RF Nicholas Torres: 0-for-4, R, BB, 3 K
1B Coby Morales: 1-for-3, BB, K
C Tomas Frick: 2-for-4
3B Kevin Verde: 1-for-3, 2B (2), RBI, R, BB
2B Connor McGinnis: 2-for-4, HR (2), 2 RBI, 3 R, K
A big 2-run blast in the 8th inning turned a 4-4 tie into a 6-4 lead.
SS Owen Cobb: 2-for-4, R, SB (9), 2 K
The bottom four hitters went 7-for-15. It feels like Cobb has been better than the numbers show (.242/.297/.365 in 199 PA).
RHP Ben Hess: 2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, HR
Hess tossed 53 pitches today. He owns a 4.98 ERA over 21.2 innings. Until they stretch him out again, he will be hard to evaluate. For now, it’s about his health.
RHP Michael Arias: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Kelly Austin: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR
RHP Harrison Cohen (W, 2-0): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Trent Sellers (S, 1): 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K
Now that is how you close a game! Sellers has been a starter and reliever since entering the organization (though all 22 of his appearances last season were starts).
Hudson Valley (32-35) (Defeated Rome, 7-6. They came back from a 6-1 deficit)
SS Kaeden Kent: 2-for-4, HR (6), SF, 4 RBI, R, 2 K
Kent blasted a leadoff home run and compiled his third 4+ RBI effort this year. He is hitting .297/.357/.431 in 297 PA. I hope he makes it to Somerset in the season’s second half.
DH Core Jackson: 2-for-5
.247/.358/.462 in 218 PA (11 doubles, 2 triples, 8 HR, 29 RBI, 32 R, 18-for-24 SB, 11.9% BB, 21.1% K). I love that K%.
LF-RF Wilson Rodriguez: 0-for-3, SB (14), 2 BB
Rodriguez has a 15.7% BB. When you are 0-for-13 in your last four games, drawing four walks helps.
1B Kyle West: 0-for-4, BB, 2 K
3B Roderick Arias: 2-for-5, 2 R, SB (18)
Arias has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games, including seven multi-hit efforts. I don’t think he has “turned it around,” but if he keeps hitting…
2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 2-for-4, R, BB, K
C Josue Gonzalez: 1-for-3, 2B (7), R, 2 BB
.211/.341/.401 in 173 PA. We are desperate for catching prospects, so anyone who shows a hint of life gets my attention.
CF Camden Troyer: 3-for-5, 2 RBI, K
Troyer’s second career 3-hit effort.
RF Luis Durango: 1-for-4, 3B (1), 2 R
PH-LF Josh Moylan: 0-for-1, K
RHP Sean Paul Linan: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, HR
LHP Franyer Herrera: (W, 4-3) 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K
Strong performance by Herrera, a 21-year-old who has put together mixed results (4.56 ERA in 49.1 innings with 11 home runs allowed and a 57/28 K/BB)
RHP Luis Velasquez (S, 1): 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Tampa (36-33) (Lost to Ft. Myers, 13-3. Must I write about this one?)
3B Jackson Lovich: 1-for-4, SB (17), BB, K
Lovich has flashed the power (.579 SLG) and speed (20-for-25 SB) in his 59 career games. I have discussed his future position many times, and the Yankees are concentrating heavily on him at third base (26th start this season). He also has 24 starts at shortstop, but he is unlikely to stick there.
DH Brando Mayea: 2-for-4, R, K
1B David McCann: 0-for-0, BB
C Luis Puello: 0-for-2, K
PH-C Ediel Rivera: 0-for-2, RBI, R, HBP, K
RF Logan Maxwell: 0-for-4, RBI, BB, K
1B-2B Hans Montero: 1-for-4, 2B (13), RBI, K
SS Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek: 0-for-3, HBP, K
LF JoJo Jackson: 1-for-3, BB
The switch-hitting Jackson is 17-for-45 (.378/.500/.489) in June.
CF Willy Montero: 1-for-4
2B-P Luis Escudero: 0-for-3, R, BB, K
RHP Brennan Stuprich: (L, 2-2) 4.2 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR
5.29 ERA (32.1 IP, 29 H, 22 R, 19 ER, 5 HR, 12 BB, 34 K)
RHP Jose Martinez: 1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 2 HR
LHP Parker Seay: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
RHP Josh Tiedemann: 1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Luis Escudero: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K
FCL Yankees (18-18)
Day off.
DSL Yankees (8-7)
Day off.
DSL Bombers (7-8)
