Yankees MILB 6/12: George Lombard Jr. Homers Twice

Top 30 Prospects

Injury Log

Notes:

Losing Trent Grisham would be devastating to a lineup that is already missing Aaron Judge. Grisham’s actual numbers have caught up to his early-season “under the hood” metrics. We could have an outfield of Cody Bellinger, Spencer Jones, and Jasson Dominguez as early as tomorrow if Grisham’s injury is significant (update: hamstring tightness. Ugh.)

“Next Man Up” was fun in 2019, but in most seasons in baseball history, “Next Man Up” = “Disaster in waiting”.  It is what it is. You have to hope the young outfielders can produce.

Scranton (32-34) (Lost two games to Lehigh Valley)

Game 1 (Lost, 7-4. Since this was the conclusion of last night’s game, it went the full nine innings)

SS George Lombard Jr.2-for-5, 2B (9), HR (3), RBI, 2 R, K
The home run was right down the left field line (326 feet in Scranton). I mention that because Savant didn’t record an exact distance, but it wasn’t much further than that. It was hit at 95.3 MPH. The double, meanwhile, was hit at 100.4 MPH.
RF Yanquiel Fernandez3-for-5, K
2B Marco Luciano1-for-5, 2 K
3B Oswaldo Cabrera1-for-3, HR (5), RBI, R, 2 BB
Cabrera has a 7-game hitting streak.
DH Seth Brown0-for-4, 4 K
LF Ernesto Martinez Jr.2-for-4, R, K
.243/.308/.481 in 208 PA.
1B Tyler Hardman1-for-3, BB
CF Duke Ellis1-for-4, 2B (5), SB (26)
C Abrahan Gutierrez0-for-4, K

RHP Brendan Beck3.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K
Not quite as sharp as his hitless seven innings his last time out, but he was putting zeroes on the board.  Season: 3.38 ERA (69.1 IP, 51 H, 31 R, 26 ER, 8 HR, 24 BB, 72 K).
LHP Will Brian1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
Brian’s first Scranton appearance. That allows us to get some Savant data. He threw 32 pitches, 25 of which were sinkers. He averaged 91.4 MPH and generated four whiffs.  He also generated one whiff with his curve.
RHP Danny Watson1 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
RHP Yovanny Cruz (L, 5-3): 1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Cruz also allowed two inherited runners to score. Despite the not-so-flattering line, he did reach 100.8 MPH (averaged 99.2).
RHP Carson Coleman1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, HR
RHP Rafael Montero1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Game 2 (Lost, 6-3)

SS George Lombard Jr.1-for-4, HR (4), RBI, R, 2 K
Lombard, who has a 6-game hitting streak (9-for-27), hits a lead-off blast that travels 403 feet at 104.6 MPH. Both home runs and the double were hit today – he was 0-for-2 when Game 1 was suspended last night.  Since his promotion: .221/.366/.362 in 186 PA (9 doubles, 4 HR, 15 RBI, 28 R, 7-for-9 SB, 17.2% BB, 22.6% K).  There are nights when I struggle to come up with the “headline.”  There are other nights, like tonight, when the headline is written before the games are close to being over.
RF Jasson Dominguez1-for-4, HR (5), RBI, R
The HR was hit 368 feet at 102.8 MPH.  He is 5-for-18 with a pair of home runs during his rehab stint.
LF Yanquiel Fernandez1-for-3, R, BB, K
2B Oswaldo Cabrera1-for-4
Cabrera has an 8-game hitting streak.
1B Tyler Hardman1-for-4, 2B (6), 3 K
DH Seth Brown1-for-3, 2B (6), RBI, K
3B Jonathan Ornelas0-for-3, 2 K
CF Kenedy Corona1-for-2, SB (7), BB, K
C Miguel Palma0-for-1, 2 BB

RHP Adam Kloffenstein: (L, 2-5) 5 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR
RHP Bradley Hanner: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K
RHP Peter Strzelecki: 0 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
RHP Edinson Duran1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR
Duran is a catcher who never catches. He has six plate appearances this season. As a “we’re out of available pitchers” pitcher, he has tossed 6.1 innings.

Somerset (33-28) (Lost to Binghamton, 7-5. There is plenty of room on this roster for Kaeden Kent or Core Jackson, but they haven’t pulled the trigger. I am not complaining about that. Just observing.)

LF Jackson Castillo0-for-2, RBI, R, 3 BB, K
Castillo recently hit three home runs in two games. Tonight, he decided to walk three times. Rickey Henderson, Part II.  He owns an 11.6% BB and 23.7% K.
DH Garrett Martin0-for-4, R, BB, 3 K
1B Nicholas Torres: 1-for-4, R, BB, K
CF DJ Gladney2-for-4, HR (12), 3 RBI, R, BB, K
Gladney has five home runs in his last eight games.
3B Coby Morales1-for-5, CS (6), 3 K
C Tomas Frick0-for-2, BB, K
Frick’s 2026 debut. Their 15th-round pick in the 2023 draft hit .232/.338/.373 in 213 PA between Hudson Valley and Somerset in 2025.
  C John Cristino0-for-2, 2 K
Cristino’s Somerset debut. He is a 26-year-old organizational guy who hit three home runs in an FCL game earlier this year.
2B Kevin Verde0-for-4, K
SS Owen Cobb0-for-3, R, BB, K
RF Cole Gabrielson3-for-4, 2B (1), K
Gabrielson is hitting .321 (9-for-28) at this level.

RHP Chase Hampton: 3 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
Hampton’s rehab stint is over, though they will continue to limit his pitch counts (61 tonight) for the time being.
RHP Jack Cebert5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, HR
Cebert piggybacked Hampton tonight. He was struggling lately (15 runs in nine innings over his last two starts), so it is good to see him get back on track.
RHP Hayden Merda: (L, 0-1)  0.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR
Merda has been strong this season. Tonight wasn’t his night.

Hudson Valley (28-32) (Defeated Jersey Shore, 11-3)

RF Wilson Rodriguez1-for-5, 2B (9), 2 RBI, 4 K
Rodriguez, who was 7-for-8 in his previous two games, saved his night with a late 2-run double.
SS Core Jackson1-for-5, 2 RBI, R, 2 K
C Eric Genther2-for-5, 2B (6), 2 RBI, R
1B Kyle West2-for-5, R
West has three straight multi-hit games.
3B Roderick Arias: 2-for-4, 2B (7), RBI, BB, K
Arias has a 7-game hitting streak (11-for-28).
2B Enmanuel Tejeda3-for-5, 2B (5), R, SB (6)
Tejeda has a 6-game hitting streak (9-for-21). He started 6-for-39 (.154) after his promotion. He is 13-for-39 (.333) since.
DH Josue Gonzalez0-for-3, SF, RBI, R, BB, K
LF Josh Moylan1-for-3, HR (11), RBI, 3 R, 2 BB, 2 K
Moylan has five home runs in his last seven games.
CF Camden Troyer2-for-2, 2 2B (11), 2 RBI, 2 R, SB (7), 2 BB
Last year’s 12th-round pick caused some havoc at the bottom of the lineup.

RHP Rory Fox: (W, 3-3)  6 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, HR
5.71 ERA (52 IP, 61 H, 44 R, 33 ER, 8 HR, 18 BB, 55 K). His debut season has its share of ups and downs. It is encouraging to see him bounce back like this after allowing ten runs (three earned) in 4.2 innings last time out.
RHP Brandon Decker1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
2.70 ERA (26.2 IP, 22 H, 10 R, 8 ER, 1 HR, 10 BB, 30 K)
RHP Hansel Rincon 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
3.98 ERA (20.1 IP, 14 H, 12 R, 9 ER, 0 HR, 14 BB, 30 K). This is his fifth straight scoreless outing (6.2 innings).
RHP Wilmy Sanchez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K

Tampa (33-28) (Defeated Bradenton, 8-2. Tampa is playing well, but has been unable to cut into Clearwater’s division lead.)

SS Jackson Lovich1-for-5, R, 2 K
.288/.364/.543 in 209 PA (10 doubles, 2 triples, 11 HR, 38 RBI, 36 R, 14-for-17 SB, 10.0% BB, 27.8% K). Lovich is second in the FSL in home runs and RBI and fifth in OPS.
3B Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek2-for-4, 2B (9), HR (8), 2 RBI, 4 R, SB (18), BB
.286/.393/.458 in 242 PA. After hitting .305/.409/.516 in May, he is hitting .333/.422/.590 (13-for-39; 2 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR) in June. He is 1.8 years older than league average, and I expect a promotion to Hudson Valley soon enough.
1B Hans Montero1-for-4, BB, K
Montero is surprisingly 4th in the FSL in OPS, three points ahead of Lovich. As I have said multiple times: This is his third year at this level.
LF Logan Maxwell: 1-for-3, SF, 2 RBI, BB, K
RF Willy Montero0-for-3, SF, RBI, BB, K
CF JoJo Jackson2-for-5, 2B (10), R, K
Jackson is 8-for-26 (.308) in June.
C Ediel Rivera0-for-3, R, HBP, 2 K
DH David McCann1-for-3, RBI, R, BB, 2 K
2B Luis Escudero1-for-3, 2B (2), SF, RBI, R, SB (1)

LHP Henry Lalane: (W, 2-1)  6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K (personal best)
Lalane did his best to make me change the headline.  Last four starts: 0.42 ERA (21.2 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 6 BB, 30 K). Tonight, he hit 97.5 MPH with his 4-seam fastball (averaged 93.9, which I will question because pitches in the low-80s were registering as “4-seam fastballs” on Savant) and generated seven whiffs on eight swings with his slider (20 whiffs on 47 swings overall).  Regardless of the accuracy of the Savant data, this is an impressive run. Stay healthy.
RHP Jose Rodriguez1.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
2.19 ERA (24.2 IP, 12 H, 9 R, 6 ER, 1 HR, 18 BB, 36 K)
RHP Josh Tiedemann: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR

FCL Yankees (15-14) (Tied with the Blue Jays, 2-2, in the 8th. This game was suspended due to lightning. They will try to complete it on 6/19)

1B Richard Matic1-for-3, RBI, BB, K
Because the game started today, his on-base streak will increase to 30 even though the game is finishing at a later date.
RF-CF Wilberson De Pena0-for-4, K
C Queni Pineda1-for-4, K
3B Leni Done0-for-1, SB (16), 2 BB, K
DH Robbie Burnett0-for-3, K
The 23-year-old is here on a rehab stint from Hudson Valley. He only played one game for Hudson Valley (went 0-for-1!) before going on the injured list. The Yankees signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia.
LF-RF Estivenzon Montero0-for-3, K
SS Dexters Peralta2-for-2, 2 R, BB
2B Christofer Reyes1-for-3, RBI, K
CF Isael Arias0-for-2, K
   PH Jose Castro0-for-0, HBP
He entered the day with at least one walk in all 13 of his games. Crazy that this PH appearance puts an end to that, but he does extend the on-base streak to 14.

LF Diego Flores0-for-0

RHP Omar Gonzalez4 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
RHP Enixon Sanchez3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
Sanchez (18) really needed this game. He entered the day with a 19.89 ERA in 6.1 innings.
RHP Austin Breedlove0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

DSL Yankees (3-6) (After scoring 13 runs against the Twins yesterday, they scored 17 in a 17-4 drubbing of the Rangers Red)

CF Isaias Castillo3-for-4, 2 2B (5), HR (6), 2 RBI, 3 R, 2 BB, K
“Is Castillo too old for this level?”  He is approximately 0.3 years above the league average age, since he turns 18 on June 15th. That said, he is hitting like a maniac at the same age as high school seniors. He has homered in six of his nine games this season and is hitting .421/.511/.1.079 (yes, that is his SLG, not his OPS) over 45 plate appearances.
DH Stiven Marinez2-for-6, 2B (3), HR (2), 4 RBI, R, K
Marinez is already 18 and is hitting .375/.474/.719 in 38 PA.
RF Yostin Pena0-for-4, 2 R, SB (2), 2 HBP, 2 K
SS Juan Torres2-for-6, 2B (4), 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 SB (5), K
The top four hitters in this lineup have an OPS above 1.000. Torres, who doesn’t believe in walks, is hitting .405/.409/.690. He has six multi-hit games in nine games played.
1B Cesar Lopez2-for-3, HR (1), RBI, 3 R, 2 BB
The 17-year-old launches his first professional home run.
C Edgar Jimenez2-for-3, 2B (1), HR (1), 4 RBI, 2 R
Jimenez’s first two hits this season (2-for-12)
2B Emmanuel Orozco2-for-3, 2B (1), 2 RBI, 3 R, SB (3), BB
Have to love his stat line:  4-for-18 with seven walks, four HBP, and 11 runs in seven games.

RHP Yunior Jerez (W, 1-0): 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
9.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 12 K
RHP Luis Ilarraza1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
RHP Cesar Vivanco1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

DSL Bombers (2-7) (One day after telling you how bad they are, they clobbered the DSL Cardinals, 20-5. They scored 20 runs on 20 hits, 12 walks, three HBP, and three errors.)

DH Mani Cedeno4-for-6, 2 2B (4), HR (2), 3 RBI, 4 R, BB, K
This is how you turn around your small sample size triple slash. He improved from .154/.324/.346 to .250/.390/.563. This is the bonus baby’s first career 4-hit game.
2B Carlos Bello3-for-5, 2 2B (2), 2 RBI, R, 2 SB (4), 2 BB, K
A $400,000 signee in 2025, Bello entered today 1-for-21.
SS Germayhoni Beltre2-for-5, RBI, 3 R, 2 SB (4), 2 BB, K
Beltre has back-to-back 2-SB efforts.
RF David Carrera1-for-4, RBI, 2 R, BB, 2 K
  PH-RF Eddison Charles0-for-0, R, BB
C Poly Ojeda2-for-5, 2 RBI, R, HBP, BB, K
LF Richard Meran3-for-5, 5 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB, K
The 19-year-old has played in 81 games over four seasons at this level. He set a personal best with his five RBI today.
1B Stalen Ramirez2-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 R
  1B John Rosillo0-for-2
2B Adrian Feliz2-for-6, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB
CF Alfiery Matos1-for-4, 3B (1), RBI, 2 R, HBP, BB, K
