Yankees MILB 6/6: Kaeden Kent: 3 Doubles

Top 30 Prospects

Injury Log

Notes:

If you had a J.C. Escarra/Ali Sanchez platoon on your June 6th Bingo card, I hope you won a lot of money. As I said last night, Austin Wells‘ season has been abysmal. Now, we find out he is dealing with a nerve issue in his neck that is causing headaches.

The Yankees’ catching situation goes from amongst the worst in Major League Baseball to amongst the worst in…all of organized baseball, down to Little League?  Aaron Boone claimed earlier this season that Escarra would be a starter on other teams. Well, here’s his chance to become the starter on this team.

We know how the trade deadline works. There will be 422 relief pitchers available, so it isn’t worth fretting. Catchers? Much harder to find. Ryan Jeffers is a perfect fit, but as potentially the only meaningful catcher on the market, the cost and demand will be high. That is true even if teams view him as a rental.  Adley Rutschman is someone you pay attention to if the Orioles, who are in playoff contention, decide to sell him off. Like with Jeffers, the cost will be high.

Fernandez’s stint on the injured list was a short one.

FCL Yankees (14-12) (Defeated the Tigers, 8-1)

3B Richard Matic1-for-3, R, BB, K
I am not sure why he was pulled from the game yesterday, but it looks like he is fine. He has reached base safely in all 26 games this season and has a 5-game hitting streak. Overall, he is hitting .323/.454/.490 in 119 PA and leads the FCL in runs with 32.  He has improved his strikeout rate (22.5% last year; 18.5% this year), and his GB% has fallen from 41.5% to 37.1% (entering today).  He is earning a shot at a full-season league. That’s the best I can give you.
CF Wilberson De Pena1-for-3, CS (5), BB
De Pena’s 1.066 OPS is fifth in the FCL, and he leads the league in home runs (7) and RBI (32).

DSL Bombers (1-4) (Lost a pitching duel to Mets Orange, 15-14. This was a DSL Special. The teams combined for only 14 hits. Mets Orange committed six errors, but won despite the Bombers committing zero. Mets Orange walked a whopping 14 times, but the Bombers topped them with 15. I am not sure what more there is to say.)

RF David Carrera0-for-3, RBI, 2 R, CS (2), 3 BB, 2 K
C Alessandro Rodriguez1-for-4, HR (1), 3 RBI, R, 2 BB
For a team that scored 14 runs, their box score is rather boring. Rodriguez had their only extra-base hit.
