Yankees MILB 5/26: Spencer Jones Hits a Bomb

Top 30 Prospects

Injury Log

Notes:

Following up on my Ryan Weathers re-post from yesterday, here is how the four prospects given up are doing:

OF Dillon Lewis – Considered the biggest “get” for the Marlins, Lewis is doing what he typically does. He is hitting for a low average (.225), meh OBP (.316), but solid power (.483 SLG; 10 home runs). He has also stolen 11 bases, putting him on track for back-to-back 20/20 campaigns.  Lewis did a solid job reducing his K% as the 2025 season went on, but it hasn’t continued. He owns a 30.4% strikeout rate.

OF Brendan Jones – For Double-A Somerset in 2025, Jones hit .250/.365/.415 (132 wRC+). For Pensacola this season, he is hitting .229/.343/.458 (112 wRC+). Jones stole 51 bases in 124 games last season and has 20 in 41 games this season.

UTIL Juan Matheus – Matheus remains in A+ ball, where he has already set a personal best for home runs in a season (7). He is hitting .261/.352/.471 (112 wRC+) and is 8-for-9 stealing bases. He stole 40 in 51 attempts last season. He remains someone who takes his share of walks (12.1%) while keeping the strikeouts in check (15.9%).

UTIL Dylan Jasso – While the other three prospects are performing as you may suspect, Jasso has struggled mightily. He is hitting .180/.294/.315 (67 wRC+) with a pair of home runs. For Double-A Somerset last year, he hit .257/.326/.400 with 13 home runs and 76 RBI.

Lombard has four doubles in his last seven games.
CF Spencer Jones1-for-2, HR (12), 2 RBI, R, 2 BB
When a player comes up and struggles, it can be easy to dismiss what they do in the minors. Try not to fall into that trap.  Jones homered in his first AB since his demotion. The ball traveled 414 feet at 115 MPH.

RHP Thatcher Hurd: (L, 0-1) 2.1 IP, 8 H, 10 R, 10 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 3 HR
Not the Tampa debut he envisioned when he went to bed last night. The good news for Hurd is that he may never again allowed ten earned runs in a game.  To add insult to injury, if you were interested in Savant data since he is now in the Florida State League, you will be disappointed as there is no data for tonight’s game.
LHP Justin West5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, HR
