Notes:
We should have known that Luis Gil‘s injury wouldn’t be minor. He won’t throw for at least three weeks due to shoulder inflammation. The best-case scenario doesn’t feel like the likely scenario.
One aspect of this that his agent could challenge is whether or not Gil was injured before his demotion. This is important because if he were, the Yankees would be required to place him on the Major League injured list, which allows Gil to accrue service time. Gil did not pitch after his demotion.
Scranton (19-17)
Their game against Worcester was postponed due to rain. I don’t see a makeup date posted, but it won’t be made up tomorrow. Worcester travels to Scranton later this month, so they could play a doubleheader that week, with Worcester being the home team for one of the games. Scranton doesn’t travel to Worcester again until late August.
Somerset (14-17) (Lost to Reading, 5-1. Somerset was due for an off night at the plate…)
CF Jace Avina: 0-for-3, BB
Avina’s 9-game hitting streak is snapped.
RF Garrett Martin: 1-for-4, 2 K
Martin has a 5-game hitting streak (9-for-24).
LF Jackson Castillo: 1-for-4, K
Castillo starts his season with a 14-game hitting streak (20-for-54; .370; 3 doubles, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 10 R, 10 BB, 10 K). He still has yet to attempt a stolen base.
3B Tyler Hardman: 1-for-4, 2B (8), R, 2 K
Hardman has an 11-game hitting streak (21-for-43; 3 doubles, 6 HR, 16 RBI, 14 R, 5 BB, 9 K).
1B Coby Morales: 1-for-3, CS (2)
DH Manuel Palencia: 0-for-3, RBI
C Miguel Palma: 0-for-2, BB
2B Duncan Pastore: 0-for-3, K
SS Owen Cobb: 0-for-3, 3 K
LHP Kyle Carr: (L, 2-4) 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, HR
6.43 ERA (28 IP, 33 H, 21 R, 20 ER, 2 HR, 12 BB, 34 K). Back-to-back rough outings, where he gave up 14 runs over 6.1 innings, have skewed his ERA.
RHP Eric Reyzelman: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
3.95 ERA (13.2 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 2 HR, 4 BB, 25 K). Your reminder that he walked 42 over 42 innings in 2025.
RHP Hayden Merda: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Merda allowed one of two inherited runners to score.
Hudson Valley (17-14) (Defeated Winston-Salem, 8-1)
SS Kaeden Kent: 3-for-5, 2 RBI, 2 R
Kent has 14 multi-hit efforts (29 games). Included in those 14 multi-hit efforts are four 3-hit games.
DH Eric Genther: 0-for-4, RBI, BB, K
1B Kyle West: 2-for-5, 3B (1), R, CS (1), K
LF Wilson Rodriguez: 2-for-3, 2 2B (7), SF, RBI, R
.223/.356/.351 in 121 PA (7 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 12 RBI, 20 R, 5-for-7 SB, 20 BB, 24 K). Rodriguez is 10-for-29 (.345) in May.
3B Roderick Arias: 0-for-4, 2 K
C Josue Gonzalez: 1-for-2, HR (3), 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB
Eight of his 13 hits have gone for extra bases. He is hitting .200/.329/.431 in 79 PA.
CF Camden Troyer: 1-for-3, BB
2B Connor McGinnis: 1-for-3, 2B (4), R, BB
RF Cole Gabrielson: 0-for-3, R, BB
RHP Sean Paul Linan: (W, 1-3) 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K
The 21-year-old puts on a clinic, lowering his ERA from 4.67 to 3.47 (23.1 IP, 18 H, 11 R, 9 ER, 3 HR, 7 BB, 32 K). In case you forgot, he is the changeup specialist acquired for Jorbit Vivas. As for Vivas, he started well but is in a prolonged slump, dropping his triple slash to .247/.333/.288 entering today’s action. The strikeout rate remains elite (14%), but his average exit velocity is 79.3 MPH.
RHP Brady Kirtner: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Tony Rossi: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
1.59 ERA (11.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 HR, 4 BB, 18 K). The 26-year-old should make his way to Somerset this season.
Tampa (15-17) (Lost to Ft. Myers, 11-9)
LF Luis Durango: 2-for-4, 3B (1), 2 RBI, 2 R, SB (7), BB
Durango has hit safely in all nine of his rehab games (14-for-38; 2 doubles, 1 triple, 11 RBI, 8 R, 7-for-10 SB, 3 BB, 5 K)
SS Jackson Lovich: 1-for-4, RBI, R, SB (5), BB, 2 K
Lovich has a 6-game hitting streak (10-for-26).
2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-5, 2B (8), 2 RBI, 2 K
Tejeda has a 25-game on-base streak (24-for-93 (.258); 7 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 18 R, 10-for-12 SB, 21 BB, 22 K).
DH Brando Mayea: 1-for-4, 2 R, BB, 2 K
1B Hans Montero: 0-for-4, R, BB, 2 K
LF JoJo Jackson: 2-for-4, RBI, R, 2 SB (7), BB, K
RF Willy Montero: 1-for-5, R, SB (6), 4 K
C Ediel Rivera: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 K
3B Santiago Gomez: 2-for-4, R, SB (2)
RHP J.T. Etheridge: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
RHP Greysen Carter: 3 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
4.60 ERA (15.2 IP, 12 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 1 HR, 15 BB, 21 K). Carter hit 100.7 MPH as his control continues to improve (two walks in his last 9.2 innings). If he keeps this up, zoom him up on your prospect rankings. It’s still too small of a sample to declare victory, though.
LHP Parker Seay: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Brian Arias: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
LHP Jose Ledesma: (L, 0-2) 0.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Josh Tiedemann: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Tiedemann has allowed five inherited runners to score over his last two appearances.
FCL Yankees (4-2) (Lost to the unbeaten Blue Jays (6-0) again, 7-4)
3B Richard Matic: 0-for-4, R, SB (4), BB
“Is Matic a legitimate prospect?” The answer is yes, but I read a few articles this winter that his approach at the plate includes a massive uppercut swing as he bails out. Like many, he needs to make adjustments. Perhaps he already is.
DH Queni Pineda: 1-for-3, R, SB (1), 2 HBP, 2 K
SS Leni Done: 2-for-5, RBI, R, K
After a hitless opener, Done is on a 5-game hitting streak (10-for-21). He has started games at second base, shortstop, and third base. In 2025, he also played first base.
CF Jose Castro: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, BB, K
1B Justin Capellan: 0-for-4, BB, K
C Cesar Puello: 0-for-4, 2 K
2B Dexters Peralta: 1-for-4, 3B (1), 3 K
Peralta is a high-strikeout middle infielder with tools. Tools are fine, but you can’t be striking out at a 30%+ clip in the rookie leagues. Pure definition of a lottery ticket.
RF Isael Arias: 0-for-2, HBP, K
The 20-year-old makes his 2026 debut (started the year on the injured list). Here’s hoping the HBP doesn’t land him back on the IL!
RF Gabriel Lara: 0-for-1, BB, K
LF Estivenzon Montero: 1-for-3, R, BB, 2 K
Montero’s 2026 debut. I was hoping I’d get more time away from typing that name. In the DSL last year, he hit .287/.389/.510 with eight home runs and 30 RBI in 46 games. He is 19 years old.
RHP Sabier Marte (L, 0-1): 2 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 2 K
Before missing the 2025 campaign to injury, Marte showed up on a few Top 30 organizational lists. Fangraphs still has him at #17 this year. He is 6’5″ and listed at a mere 167 pounds. I am going to throw a wild assumption out there: Marte, now 22 years old, has gained some weight since that listing was made.
RHP Manuel Cruz: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K
The 20-year-old struggled in the DSL last season, posting an 8.60 ERA in 37.2 innings with a 30/25 K/BB.
RHP Omar Gonzalez: 3.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
He’s only 20, but this is his fifth year (3 in the DSL; 2 in the FCL) in the rookie leagues.
