Yankees MILB 4/21: Jasson Dominguez Puts on a Show

Top 30 Prospects

Injury Log

Notes:

SS Anthony Volpe‘s rehab is continuing with Scranton after playing four games for Somerset.  This was likely always the plan, as Somerset is on the road (Richmond) while Scranton is playing at home.

Scranton (11-10) (Defeated Rochester, 7-1. Anthony Volpe and Jasson Dominguez went back-to-back. I didn’t expect to be typing that about a random Scranton game in 2026…)

SS Anthony Volpe: 2-for-4, HR (1), RBI, 2 R, K
The home run was hit 378 feet at 97.9 MPH.
   SS Jonathan Ornelas0-for-1
LF Jasson Dominguez3-for-4, 2 2B (5), HR (3), RBI, 2 R
Both doubles were hit off a left-handed pitcher (Shinnosuke Ogasawara). The home run was a bomb – hit 418 feet at 110.2 MPH.
2B Max Schuemann1-for-3, 2B (4), R, SAC, 2 K
CF Spencer Jones1-for-2, 2B (6), 2 RBI, R, HBP, BB, K
Jones hit the double 112.2 MPH.
RF Oswaldo Cabrera1-for-4, RBI
2B Paul DeJong: 2-for-2, HR (5), 2 RBI, R, 2 BB
.229/.361/.583 in 61 PA.
1B Seth Brown0-for-2, K
  1B Ernesto Martinez Jr.0-for-2
He entered the game for Brown in the 5th. I am not sure why.
C Ali Sanchez0-for-4, K
DH Payton Henry0-for-4, 2 K

RHP Brendan Beck: (W, 2-1)  6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, HR
4.10 ERA (26.1 IP, 21 H, 16 R, 12 ER, 7 HR, 4 BB, 31 K). He’s reduced his walk rate this year, but it is coming at a cost of a spiked home run rate (OK, I can’t prove those two facts are related)
RHP Jake Bird1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Hard to say much about Bird – he hasn’t performed well since coming to the Yankees, so anything he does in Scranton feels empty. At least from a statistical standpoint.
RHP Yovanny Cruz1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Cruz reached 100.2 MPH (averaged 99.6). Season: 1.08 ERA (8.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 13 K). It remains too early to jump to any conclusions, but if he continues to flash improved control, he becomes interesting.
RHP Yerry de los Santos1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Somerset (6-9) (Lost to Reading, 8-5)

SS George Lombard Jr.: 2-for-3, HR (4), RBI, 2 R, CS (2), BB, K
Four home runs in 14 games this season. Eight home runs in 108 games at this level in 2025.  The power we were hoping for this season is showing up so far.
LF Garrett Martin1-for-4, 2B (3), K
DH Jace Avina1-for-4, HR (2), 2 RBI, R, 2 K
Avina has a 5-game hitting streak (5-for-17; 2 HR)
2B Marco Luciano1-for-4, R,
1B Coby Morales: 2-for-4, HR (3), 2 RBI, R, K
Morales is hitting .315 with a .961 OPS.
3B Tyler Hardman0-for-3, BB, K
RF DJ Gladney0-for-3, BB
CF Kenedy Corona: 0-for-3
C Manuel Palencia0-for-3, K

RHP Chase Chaney: (L, 1-1) 4.2 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR
RHP Hayden Merda2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
4.70 ERA (7.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 12 K)
RHP Chris Kean1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR
That’s a lot of ones.

Hudson Valley (8-7) (Defeated Brooklyn, 5-3, on a walk-off, 3-run home run)

2B Kaeden Kent1-for-5, HR (1), 3 RBI, R, 2 K
Kent walks it off!  Jeff Kent was somewhat known for his walk-off homers. Anyway, the Yankees challenged him by placing him at this level straight out of college last season. He, perhaps predictably, struggled. In a small sample this year, it looks like he has learned from the experience. While these were his first 3 RBI this year, he is hitting .286/.375/.411.
SS Core Jackson0-for-3, HBP, 2 K
1B Kyle West0-for-4, 4 K
DH Eric Genther0-for-2, CI, BB
3B Roderick Arias0-for-4, 2 K
LF Wilson Rodriguez1-for-4, 2B (2), R
RF Tyler Wilson2-for-4, 3B (1), RBI
CF Camden Troyer2-for-4, R, K
C Josue Gonzalez: 2-for-4, 3B (1), 2 R, 2 K
The bottom of the order did its job to set up Kent’s heroics. Gonzalez was 0-for-10 in his first four games but is 6-for-22 with a double, triple, and two home runs since.

RHP Brandon Decker: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
2.03 ERA (13.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 4 BB, 13 K)
RHP Baron Stuart1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
RHP Tony Rossi1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
2.35 ERA (7.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 HR, 2 BB, 14 K). Rossi hasn’t allowed a home run in 53 professional innings.
RHP Chris Veach: (W, 1-0)  1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
7.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 12 K.

Tampa (5-11) (Lost to Lakeland, 6-2. All nine hitters reached base, but the runs did not come)

3B Jackson Lovich0-for-4, CS (1), BB
Lovich is in a little 5-for-30 slump. Four of those hits came in one game.
2B Enmanuel Tejeda1-for-4, 2B (4), K
Tejeda is suddenly knocking on the door of .200 after a miserable start (1-for-27). He is on a 6-game hitting streak.
CF Brando Mayea1-for-4
LF Logan Maxwell2-for-4, R, K
.244/.327/.400 in 52 PA.
RF JoJo Jackson1-for-4, 2 K
RF Willy Montero1-for-4, R, K
SS Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek1-for-4, RBI
C Ediel Rivera1-for-3, BB, K
1B Hans Montero0-for-3, RBI, BB, K

RHP Blake Gillespie: 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
2.87 ERA (15 IP, 14 H, 10 R, 5 ER, 1 HR, 7 BB, 15 K). Gillespie generates a lot of ground balls (62.5% entering tonight, though that is a small sample).
RHP Jose M. Martinez: 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, HR
RHP Thomas Balboni1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Balboni, in only his second appearance since 2024, averaged 95.5 MPH with his sinker.
