Yankees MILB 4/16: Jack Cebert Tosses 7 Strong Innings

Top 30 Prospects

Injury Log

Notes:

LHP Pico Kohn, an organizational Top 30 prospect who impressed in his professional debut (Hudson Valley) on April 3rd, was transferred from the 7-day injured list to the 60-day injured list. That’s never a good thing.

RHP Ocean Gabonia was transferred from Hudson Valley’s 60-day injury list to the full-season injury list. That’s never a good thing, either.

Scranton (10-7) (Their game against Syracuse was postponed due to rain. They will try to play a doubleheader on Saturday. The posted lineup is below)

DH Jasson Dominguez0-for-0
Dominguez, hitting .327/.456/.491, is 2-for-6 with a double, home run, walk, and strikeout against LHP.
SS Oswaldo Cabrera0-for-0
Cabrera hasn’t hit well yet (.150/.200/.233 in 65 PA).
CF Max Schuemann0-for-0
LF Spencer Jones0-for-0
Entering tonight, Jones was tied for the International League lead with 19 RBI.  He is tied with 30-year-old Michael Chavis (Reds).
RF Yanquiel Fernandez0-for-0
1B Seth Brown0-for-0
3B Paul DeJong0-for-0
2B Braden Shewmake0-for-0
C Payton Henry0-for-0

RHP Carlos Lagrange0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Somerset (5-6) (Defeated Reading, 9-8. The Patriots have scored 72 runs in 11 games. That isn’t even the most impressive number in the Eastern League. New Hampshire has scored 97 runs in 11 games!)

3B-SS George Lombard Jr.2-for-4, RBI, R, BB
Lombard Jr. remains over .400 (.415) and has five multi-hit efforts in ten games.
SS Anthony Volpe1-for-3, K
Again, not unusual for players to play partial days early on during rehab. I assume he will play a full game on Friday.
   3B Tyler Hardman1-for-2, 2B (4)
DH Garrett Martin0-for-3, SF, RBI, K
LF Jace Avina1-for-3, HR (1), RBI, 2 R, BB, K
Avina needed that home run (he is 4-for-37).
2B Marco Luciano: 2-for-4, 2 HR (3), 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 K
Luciano’s 11th career multi-HR effort. As stated before, he has a top prospect pedigree, so the talent at least existed at one point.
1B Coby Morales0-for-3, R, BB, 2 K
RF DJ Gladney: 2-for-4, RBI, R, CS (1), K
.394/.438/.552 in 32 PA (3 doubles, 1 triple, 7 RBI)
CF Kenedy Corona: 0-for-3, R, 2 SB (4), BB
C Miguel Palma1-for-4, HR (1), 3 RBI, R, 2 K
Palma’s first hit as a member of the Yankees’ organization is a big one.

RHP Cade Smith : 3.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 8 K, 3 HR
Watching the game tonight, Smith’s stuff is solid, and the strikeouts are nice. However, the three home runs stand out (he allowed two in 39.2 innings last year).  A work-in-progress, like 99.9% of prospects. In two starts: 8 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 3 HR, 6 BB, 13 K.
RHP Michael Arias2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
RHP Matt Keating1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, HR
RHP Eric Reyzelman: 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, HR
RHP Hayden Merda (S, 1): 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
A mixed bag on the mound tonight for Somerset. They allowed eight runs, but struck out 18 batters.

Hudson Valley (6-5) (Defeated Frederick, 5-2)

DH Kaeden Kent0-for-3, R, BB
.279/.380/.349 in 50 PA with three doubles.
SS Core Jackson0-for-3, R, SB (5), BB, 2 K
3B Roderick Arias2-for-4, 2B (2), RBI, 2 R, 2 K
.282/.349/.385 in 43 PA (6-for-7 SB). He has four multi-hit games (ten games played).
LF Wilson Rodriguez0-for-3, BB, K
DH Tyler Wilson1-for-4, 2 RBI, SB (2), CS (1)
1B Josh Moylan0-for-4, 2 K
CF Camden Troyer0-for-3, SB (1), BB, K
C Josue Gonzalez1-for-3, HR (2), RBI, R, K
Gonzalez has homered in back-to-back games (his only two hits this season). Make them count!
2B Connor McGinnis1-for-3, 2 K

RHP Jack Cebert: (W, 1-1)  7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
1.26 ERA (14.1 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 14 K). He’s pitched 7+ innings in both of his starts. It’s fairly rare for a minor league pitcher to go seven innings in one game, never mind back-to-back efforts.
LHP Tanner Bauman1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Jackson Fristoe1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Tampa (4-8) (Lost to Bradenton, 5-4)

CF Brando Mayea0-for-4, BB, 4 K
.208/.283/.292 in 53 PA.
2B Enmanuel Tejeda1-for-4, 2B (3), R, BB
Baseball is the dumbest game. Tejeda couldn’t buy a hit – now he is suddenly an extra-base hit machine (2 doubles, a triple, and a home run in his last three games). Before these three games, he was hitting .037/.333/.074. Now, he is hitting .150/.382/.350.  He owns a 23.2% K and 26.8% BB.
C Engelth Urena1-for-5, R
LF Logan Maxwell1-for-2, SF, RBI, R, BB
His debut season continues to motor along (.265/.350/.471). As a 23-year-old college bat out of the SEC (Arkansas), you wouldn’t expect the Yankees to keep him here long.
DH JoJo Jackson0-for-3, R, BB
RF Willy Montero1-for-2, 2B (2), 2 RBI, HBP, BB
SS Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek0-for-4, 2 K
A tough start for Martin-Grudzielanek (4-for-30 with a double).
1B Hans Montero1-for-3, RBI, SB (3), BB, K
3B Santiago Gomez0-for-4, K

RHP Ty Boudreau5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
2.89 ERA (9.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 2 BB, 15 K). He generated 14 whiffs, including six with his 4-seam fastball and seven with his slider.
RHP Josh Tiedemann1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 HR, 3 BB, 9 K
LHP Jose Ledesma (L, 0-1): 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
RHP Jose M. Rodriguez:  2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
Rodriguez was humming, averaging 97.0 MPH with his 4-seam fastball and 94.4 MPH with his sinker. He’s had success in his career (only 26 games), though his walk rate must come down.
