Notes:

Nothing new.

Scranton (9-5) (Split a doubleheader against Durham)

Game 1 (Lost, 4-2)

LF Jasson Dominguez0-for-2, R, SB (5), 2 BB, K
3B Oswaldo Cabrera0-for-3, K
2B Max Schuemann0-for-1, SAC, BB, K
CF Spencer Jones1-for-3, RBI, CS (1), K
RF Yanquiel Fernandez0-for-3, K
DH Seth Brown0-for-3, 3 K
1B Ernesto Martinez Jr.1-for-3
.260/.288/.480 in 52 PA.
SS Paul DeJong2-for-3, HR (3), RBI, R
C Ali Sanchez0-for-2, BB, K

RHP Carlos Lagrange: (L, 0-1): 3.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 8 K, HR
He needed 76 pitches to record the ten outs. His control can elude him – we know this. After walking zero over four innings in his first start, he has nine in 6.2 innings over his last two starts. As for his velocity, he hit 102.4 MPH today (tossed nine pitches 102+ and averaged 100.6, which is crazy). He generated 15 whiffs on 28 swings.
RHP Bradley Hanner1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
RHP Carson Coleman1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
RHP Yovanny Cruz1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Lagrange is one of the few who can overshadow Cruz’s velocity. He has reached 100+ MPH this year, though he “only” hit 99.5 today. He owns a 10/2 K/BB over 6.1 innings. Let’s hope he can keep those walks in check all season.

Game 2 (Won, 9-5)

LF Jasson Dominguez0-for-2, 2 R, 2 SB (7), 2 BB
Dominguez didn’t earn a hit today, but he did what leadoff hitters should do (four walks, three stolen bases, three runs). He is hitting .341/.473/.523 in 55 PA.
3B Oswaldo Cabrera1-for-3, R, SB (2), BB, K
DH Spencer Jones: 3-for-4, HR (3), 5 RBI, 2 R, SB (2), K
The home run traveled 354 feet at 107.1 MPH. Among his 12 hits, he has three doubles and three home runs and has driven home 16 runs in 13 games. Maybe this is the start of one of his hot streaks.  In case you are wondering, his personal best for RBI in a game is seven (2024).
RF Yanquiel Fernandez: 1-for-3, R, BB, K
1B Seth Brown1-for-2, HR (2), 3 RBI, R, BB
The veteran is hitting .303/.378/.485 in 37 PA.
C Payton Henry0-for-3, 2 K
SS Braden Shewmake0-for-3
2B Jonathan Ornelas0-for-2, R, BB, 2 K
CF Duke Ellis1-for-2, RBI, R, 3 SB (5), BB, K
Allowing Ellis to get on base is always asking for trouble.

RHP Adam Kloffenstein3.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, HR
RHP Danny Watson: (W, 2-0)  1.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Yerry de los Santos:  1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
9.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 13 K.
RHP Edinson Duran1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
Minor league baseball, where backup catchers are asked to come in to protect a 4-run lead. This was his 4th career pitching appearance, and he maxed out at 90.5 MPH. Not bad.

Somerset (2-5) (Lost to Binghamton, 7-6, in ten innings)

SS George Lombard Jr.2-for-3, 2B (5), 2 RBI, 2 R, SB (2), 2 BB
Deuces wild!  How is this for a stat line: .464/.531/.857 (1.388 OPS); 5 doubles, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 8 R, 2-for-3 SB, 4 BB, 4 K.  We want to see the power, and he is showing it so far. How long until he gets to Scranton? I think we are several weeks away from that, unless he is showing the Yankees that the pitching here isn’t challenging him at all.
LF Jace Avina0-for-5, 4 K
Avina is 2-for-25 with 14 strikeouts. It’s not what you want.
2B Marco Luciano0-for-3, 2 BB, 2 K
DH Coby Morales1-for-4, 3 RBI, BB, K
Morales’ 2-run single with two outs in the top of the 9th tied the game.
3B Tyler Hardman0-for-4, BB, 3 K
LF Nicholas Torres2-for-5, HR (1), RBI, 2 R, 2 K
Torres, who owns a .sustainable 478/.520/.652 triple slash, hits his first affiliated home run since August 27th, 2019.
RF DJ Gladney: 0-for-3, R, 2 BB, K
DH Kenedy Corona0-for-3, SB (2), HBP
C Miguel Palma0-for-2, R, 2 BB, K
0-for-13 with four walks. The other catcher (Manuel Palencia) is 0-for-8.

RHP Ben Hess2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 5 K
His control betrayed him a few times in 2025 as well (in one of his starts, he allowed six walks over 3.2 innings, for example). The good news is he missed bats this afternoon, though that is small comfort.
RHP Michael Arias1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
RHP Chris Kean2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
RHP Matt Keating2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K
Much better than his first outing (0.1 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 2 BB)
LHP Geoffrey Gilbert0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 0 K
RHP Owen Cobb (L, 0-1): 0.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
Cobb, a position player, stranded all three runners he inherited from Gilbert in the 9th. He couldn’t escape the Manfred Man in the 10th, however.

Hudson Valley (3-4) (Lost to Wilmington, 8-6)

SS Core Jackson1-for-5, HR (2), 2 RBI, R, 2 K
Jackson bats left-handed, so he could be an interesting offensive prospect if he shows some pull pop.
2B Kaeden Kent2-for-5, R, K
Extra-base hit power remains elusive, but he is hitting better overall than he did last year. “Small sample size” is a built-in footnote.
1B Kyle West0-for-4, K
DH Eric Genther2-for-3, 2B (2), R, BB, K
Genther has a 5-game hitting streak (9-for-18).
3B Roderick Arias2-for-3, 3B (1), 2 RBI, R, 2 SB (4)
One annoying aspect about Arias is that he has games like these, where you can see his natural athleticism take over.
LF Wilson Rodriguez1-for-1, 2B (1), SF, RBI, 2 BB
CF Camden Troyer0-for-4, 2 K
RF Cole Gabrielson1-for-4, CS (1), K
C Josue Gonzalez0-for-3, R, HBP, 2 K
Like with Palma and Palencia, earning hits hasn’t been easy early on. Gonzalez is 0-for-10.

RHP Rory Fox4.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 8 K
Fox, their 6th round pick in 2025 (Notre Dame), makes his professional debut. He pitched well through three innings before giving up five runs in the 4th. He is a legitimate prospect to keep an eye on.
RHP Jack Sokol: (L, 0-1) 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
RHP Jackson Fristoe1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Ben Grable1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
3.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K. Today was the first blemish in his professional career.

Tampa (3-5) (Lost to Clearwater, 2-1, in ten innings)

DH Jackson Lovich: 3-for-4, 2 2B (4), RBI, K
My goodness. This is his second consecutive 2-double effort, and he has hit safely in all nine of his professional games, including seven multi-hit efforts. He is a 22-year-old “bat first” kid. It’s fine that he is playing for Tampa, given his limited experience. However, he can force his way up to Hudson Valley quickly.
2B Enmanuel Tejeda0-for-3, BB, K
CF Brando Mayea1-for-4
RF Logan Maxwell: 0-for-4, K
LF JoJo Jackson0-for-3, BB, K
C Ediel Rivera1-for-4
1B Austin Green0-for-3, BB
SS Santiago Gomez0-for-4, 3 K
3B Kevin Verde1-for-4, R, SB (2), 2 K
Some minor league players rarely play. Verde had four plate appearances in seven games entering tonight. I admire youngsters who love the sport so much that they grind through everything that comes with being a minor league player despite limited playing time.

LHP Henry Lalane4.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
One of Lalane’s pitches hit 95 MPH, though his average was 92.2. If your secondary pitches are solid, you can definitely live in these ranges as a left-handed pitcher. I hope we can get a full, healthy season out of him so we can evaluate.
LHP Parker Seay1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
RHP Yerry Rodriguez1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Matthew Tippie2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
RHP Brian Arias: (L, 0-1)  0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
