Notes:
Nothing, yet again. Notes seem to come in waves.
Scranton (8-3) (Defeated Durham, 5-4, on a walk-off home run)
LF Jasson Dominguez: 3-for-4, RBI, R, BB
As I said the other day, how exactly are we supposed to evaluate Dominguez in Triple-A?
SS Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-for-5, R
CF-3B Max Schuemann: 3-for-4, RBI, SB (2), BB, K
RF Spencer Jones: 1-for-5, RBI, K
8-for-39 with ten runs batted in. He has six walks and 20 strikeouts over 46 plate appearances. I have seen a few “excuses” on social media. I could accept things like “the weather is cold” and whatever else if he didn’t have his strikeout history.
DH Seth Brown: 1-for-5, RBI, 3 K
1B Ernesto Martinez Jr.: 0-for-5, 2 K
C Ali Sanchez: 1-for-5, HR (2), RBI, R
Walk-off home run with two outs in the 9th.
3B Paul DeJong: 1-for-2, 2B (2), R, 2 BB, K
PR-CF Duke Ellis: 0-for-0, SB (2)
2B Jonathan Ornelas: 2-for-4, R, K
The veteran utility player (“veteran” = 25 years old?) is 10-for-20 and has four consecutive multi-hit efforts.
RHP Brendan Beck: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
Beck reached 93.2 MPH and generated 13 whiffs. In three starts: 15 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 2 HR, 2 BB, 21 K.
RHP Angel Chivilli: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Season: 6.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K. Chivilli hit 98.4 MPH tonight. As fun as tracking his velocity is, he loves to use his changeup/slider combination more. Or, better put, the Yankees are having him concentrate on those offerings. For Colorado, he leaned more on the fastball.
RHP Yovanny Cruz : (W, 3-0) 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
His defense failed him when he tried to close out the game in the 9th. When I say “his” defense, I mean it – as he committed a 2-base error on a pickoff attempt. As for his trademark velocity, he hit 100.2 tonight and has struck out nine over 5.1 innings thus far.
Somerset (2-3) (Destroyed Binghamton, 12-2)
SS George Lombard Jr.: 3-for-6, 2B (4), HR (2), RBI, 3 R, 2 K
First things first: The home run was off a position player. These are his first two strikeouts this season, but he is now 10-for-21 (4 doubles, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 6 R, 1-for-2 SB, 2 BB, 2 K)
RF Garrett Martin: 2-for-5, 2 2B (2), RBI, R, BB
Four of Martin’s five hits have gone for extra bases (two doubles, two home runs).
1B Coby Morales: 1-for-5, RBI, R, BB, 2 K
3B Tyler Hardman: 0-for-5, 2 K
DH Nicholas Torres: 4-for-5, RBI, R, K
Torres’ first 4-hit game in affiliated ball since August 24, 2019. He also has a 3-hit effort this year.
LF DJ Gladney: 3-for-4, RBI, 2 R, HBP
CF Kenedy Corona: 2-for-5, 2B (1), 2 R, SB (1), K
C Miguel Palma: 0-for-4, BB, K
Palma is off to a 0-for-11 start.
2B Owen Cobb: 2-for-5, HR (1, grand slam), 5 RBI, 2 R, SB (1), K
Imagine if the Yankees could get this kind of production at the bottom of the order! Cobb sets a new personal record for RBI in a game.
RHP Cade Smith: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K
Smith, their 6th round pick in 2023 (Ole Miss), is known more for his spin than velocity. Injuries limited him to 11 starts in 2025, eight of which were made with Hudson Valley. In those eight starts, he owned a 2.76 ERA in 32.2 IP with a 35/16 K/BB.
RHP Eric Reyzelman (W, 1-0): 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Reyzelman’s downfall in 2025 included 42 walks in 42 innings. The sample size is (obviously) small, but thus far he owns a 4/0 K/BB over 2.2 innings.
LHP Will Brian: 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
One thing Brian does is miss bats: 74 strikeouts in 58.1 career innings. Additionally, he keeps the ball in the ballpark (one HR allowed).
LHP Geoffrey Gilbert: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Similar to Brian (but with a larger sample size), Gilbert misses bats (133 strikeouts in 102 innings) while limiting home runs (3).
Hudson Valley (3-2) (Shut down Wilmington, 2-0)
3B Core Jackson: 1-for-4, CS (2)
Perhaps he played third base in high school, but he never played the position in college or in his brief time with Hudson Valley last year.
SS Kaeden Kent: 0-for-3, BB, K
Kent’s first start at SS in 2025 (18 of his 25 starts last year were at shortstop)
1B Kyle West: 0-for-4
DH Eric Genther: 1-for-3, 2 R, BB
6-for-19 with a double, a pair of RBI, and five runs scored.
2B Roderick Arias: 1-for-4
His first game at second base since 2024.
RF Wilson Rodriguez: 0-for-2, BB, K
Rodriguez is off to a 1-for-14 start, though he has drawn eight walks (that’s how you hit .071 with a .409 OBP)
LF Tyler Wilson: 1-for-1, SF, 2 RBI, BB
2026 debut for Wilson, their 8th-round pick in 2024 out of Grand Canyon. He hit .282/.369/.364 in 366 plate appearances between here and Tampa in 2025.
CF Camden Troyer: 0-for-3, 2 K
C Josue Gonzalez: 0-for-2, BB
RHP Luis Serna: (W, 1-0) 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 10 K
Serna tosses seven innings for the first time in his career, and his ten strikeouts match his personal best. Still an intriguing prospect, he has trouble staying healthy. He was able to make four starts in Low-A Tampa last year, but that only covered seven innings. Now for the good news: While he’s been around since 2021, he signed as an international teenager so he is only 21 years old. There is time for him to regain his prospect shine, and tonight (which was his Hudson Valley debut) was a good first step in doing that. He needed only 85 pitches to record 21 outs, 63 of which were strikes.
RHP Brady Kirtner: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
Activated off the injured list today, Kirtner pitched in 35 games during his 2025 debut season. He compiled a 2.70 ERA in 46.2 innings with a 52/21 K/BB. He was a 12th-round pick by the Mets in 2023, but decided to go back to school. The Yankees signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2024.
RHP Tony Rossi (S, 1): 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Tampa (2-4) (Defeated Clearwater, 2-1)
SS Jackson Lovich: 1-for-4, HR (1), RBI, R, 2 K
His first professional home run was a bomb: 441 feet at 113.6 MPH. While Dax Kilby (understandably) gets the hype, Lovich (who started the season on the injured list) is an interesting bat as well. Drafted in the 16th round out of Missouri, he went 14-for-22 last year after hitting .357/.430/.622 with a team-leading 12 home runs and 51 runs batted in 51 collegiate contests. Tonight was his first professional game at shortstop (all six games last year were at first base).
2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 0-for-2, SB (2), CS (3), 2 BB, K
LF Brando Mayea: 2-for-4, R, K
A much-needed multi-hit effort for Mayea, who entered the night 3-for-23.
C Engelth Urena: 1-for-3, 2B (2), BB, 2 K
CF Willy Montero: 1-for-4, RBI, SB (1), K
RF JoJo Jackson: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K
DH Ediel Rivera: 1-for-4, 2 K
1B Hans Montero: 0-for-4, 3 K
3B Santiago Gomez: 0-for-3, K
RHP Ty Boudreau: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 9 K
The Yankees signed the 23-year-old as an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech. He threw five innings here last year, allowing one run while walking three and striking out nine. Tonight, he generated an impressive 18 whiffs, 11 of which came on his 4-seam fastball. He threw that pitch 56% of the time, averaging 93.9 MPH. He also featured a change, slider, and curve.
RHP Jose Martinez: (W, 1-0) 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
Martinez (21) makes his full-season league debut. In 36 games in the DSL and FCL, he pitched to a 2.93 ERA in 86 innings with a 96/17 K/BB.
RHP Jordarlin Mendoza: (S, 1) 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
I like it when youngsters bounce back. In his first game this year, he allowed seven runs in 0.2 innings. This is his first career save.
