2026 Draft Analysis

Camilo Doval trade

Luis Garcia Jr. trade

Heliot Ramos trade

Notes:

Connor McGinnis, the Yankees’ 10th-round pick in the 2025 draft, has been promoted from Somerset to Scranton for the final four games of the season. Meanwhile, RHP Danny Watson moved to the Development List. The Development List has no days requirement. Therefore, Watson could be activated as soon as tomorrow if the team wants to use him again.

After appearing in 19 games for Hudson Valley, McGinnis was promoted to Somerset, where he hit .255/.342/.414 (107 wRC+) with 12 doubles and 10 home runs. 682 defensive innings were played at second base, with 4.1 innings played at shortstop. While in Hudson Valley, he played five games in left field.

With Oswaldo Cabrera designated for assignment, McGinnis was likely promoted to provide infield depth.

Scranton (76-68; 39-31 in the second half) (Lost to Jacksonville, 7-5)

Jacksonville is the Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. Two of the prospects acquired for Ryan Weathers (Juan Matheus, Brendan Jones) are at this level.

The 22-year-old Matheus played in 42 High-A games and 78 Double-A games before being assigned here. In 133 games covering 574 plate appearances (entering tonight), he is hitting .267/.340/.424 with 16 home runs, 85 RBI, 72 runs, and 29 stolen bases. He has struggled in his brief Triple-A audition.

Jones played in 81 Double-A games before his promotion. In 435 plate appearances, he is hitting .231/.336/.425 with 14 home runs and 45 stolen bases. The stolen bases are hardly surprising, as he stole 51 between Tampa and Hudson Valley last season. Like Matheus, he has struggled in Triple-A.

The top prospect in the trade (Dillon Lewishas been stagnant. He spent the entire season in Double-A, hitting .242/.302/.460 (97 wRC+) with 18 home runs and 20 stolen bases. He struck out 30.2% of the time.  The final prospect, infielder Dylan Jasso, played in only 69 Double-A games, hitting .264/.356/.396 (102 wRC+). Last year, for Somerset, he hit .257/.326/.400 (115 wRC+).  Despite a 27-point increase in OPS in 2026, his wRC+ dipped as the Eastern League experienced an offensive surge.. Last season, teams averaged 4.19 runs per game. This season, it spiked to 5.14.

LF Jarred Kelenic0-for-5, K
RF Jasson Dominguez: 4-for-5, 2 2B (10), HR (9), 2 RBI, R, SB (16)
Dominguez has homered in back-to-back games. He has compiled seven hits in those games. It has raised his Triple-A batting average from .280 to .302.
C J.C. Escarra1-for-4, R, HBP, 2 K
2B Marco Luciano2-for-5, HR (17), 2 RBI, R
Luciano launches his 27th home run, two short of Josh Moylan for the organizational lead.
DH Yanquiel Fernandez1-for-5, R, 2 K
SS Max Schuemann0-for-3, BB
1B Ernesto Martinez Jr.1-for-4, RBI
   PR Connor McGinnis0-for-0
3B Tyler Hardman0-for-4, 2 K
CF Duke Ellis: 2-for-3, R, 2 SB (57), BB, K
Ellis ties his personal best for stolen bases (2022 and 2024).

LHP Kyle Carr: (L, 0-3) 2.1 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 0 K
Carr pitched to a 5.32 ERA over 24.2 innings at this level, striking out 22 and walking 17.  After flashing a 1.96 ERA in 119.1 Hudson Valley innings last season, Carr has struggled with consistency.
RHP Hayden Merda0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 1 K, HR
A 97.1 MPH sinker was crushed for a grand slam, which allowed two inherited runners to score.  I was watching the game on YES, and Merda had poor command of his cutter.
RHP Bradley Hanner2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
Hanner hasn’t done anything to impress in MLB. I am not surprised they kept him over Cabrera, however.
RHP Travis MacGregor1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Yerry de los Santos1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
