My Take: Yankees Acquire Jose Caballero & Camilo Doval

The details:

The Yankees acquire UTIL Jose Caballero, RHP Camilo Doval, OF Wilberson De Penaand international bonus pool money.
The Rays acquire OF Everson Pereira
The Giants acquire C/3B Jesus Rodriguez, 1B/3B Parks Harber, RHP Trystan Vrielingand LHP Carlos De La Rosa
The Angels acquire UTIL Oswald Peraza

This trade deadline was wacky, and the Yankees have roster decisions to make. And they have to make them in a hurry.

They took care of three 40-man roster slots by dealing Pereira, Rodriguez, and Peraza.

What the Yankees get:

I didn’t expect these trades after the first two. But one theme of this trade deadline was improving at the margins. Could they have kept Peraza around as the last guy on the bench? Yes. However, they wanted more. I like the aggressiveness.

Caballero can play anywhere and has elite speed. The Rays, who always value versatility, have played him at second base, shortstop, third base, and all three outfield positions in 2025. Like their other acquisitions, he has a platoon split, hitting .241/.348/.392 against LHP and only .219/.318/.271 against RHP. His value is more in his versatility and speed. He leads baseball with 34 stolen bases this season after leading the American League with 44 last year. One thing he has done this year is improve his efficiency (73.3% in 2024; 80.9% in 2025). The entire profile adds up to being worth 1.0 fWAR this year after posting a 1.9 fWAR in 2023 and 2024.

Doval has a lot of talent in his right-handed arm, including a cutter that averages 98.1 MPH. He is mostly a cutter/slider pitcher, though he mixes in a sinker.  It adds up to a profile that includes a 52.6% ground ball and 26.2% K. The walk rate (12.6%) is high, but his talent can overshadow that (3.09 ERA/3.18 FIP). Doval screams, “Matt Blake Special.” He is the type of arm that Blake will likely love to work with to go the next level. The arm talent is as good as anybody’s, and the results have mostly been good. It’s not like he is a project like Clay Holmes was. During his recent run of success, only his 2024 campaign can be seen as below average. And even that came with a 3.71 FIP. In other words, don’t underestimate his value. The Yankees have him through 2027. He can close games, but will go into the middle inning mix, a mix that is filled with impressive arms and the weirdness that is Tim Hill.

De Pena, who was acquired for Peraza, is the only prospect the Yankees acquired at the deadline. He is a DSL outfielder who is hitting .211/.296/.451 with four homers in 31 games. Sometimes, there is a backstory to these acquisitions.  I wouldn’t be shocked if the Yankees scouted De Pena at some point before he signed with the Angels and grabbed him when they had a chance. It doesn’t matter, as they did this deal for the 40-man roster space. Peraza had no future with the organization.

What the Rays get:

Pereira has the power to tap into. The biggest question is whether he has enough contact to support that power. He is a good fit for a high-contact Tampa team that needs pop. While his first MLB audition didn’t go well (.151/.233/.194 in 103 plate appearances in 2023), I am confident he has the tools to hit against the world’s best competition. Even if that is a low-average, high SLG type, that’s valuable. I think I said it last week: Sometimes, we are too enamored with the “perfect player.” Pereira doesn’t need to be perfect.

What the Angels get:

I hide nothing. I was once very high on Peraza, and it didn’t work out. With the Angels, he should earn some extra playing time to see if he can get into a groove. That won’t be as a shortstop, as the Angels have Zach Neto. However, he can play second base (Kyren Paris is hitting .190/.266/.381 in 44 games) and third base (Luis Rengifo is hitting .244/.286/.327 in 102 games) as well. The Yankees were also working him out in the outfield. We’ll see if the Angels decide to stick with that.

Can he still become a valuable player? The odds don’t seem great, but the Angels have the bandwidth to find out.

What the Giants get:

Rodriguez was the latest fan favorite, given his ability to make contact (and his current 17-game hitting streak). After struggling in Somerset to begin 2025, the Yankees promoted him to Scranton after Alex Jackson went on the injured list. He hit very well for Scranton, putting up a .317/.409/.430 (129 wRC+) line over 362 plate appearances. There are questions about his defensive position. The Yankees have tried him at catcher, first base, second base (small sample), third base, and the outfield. This year, the Yankees have limited him to catcher and third base, and they have cut back his third base time considerably over the past several weeks. While some of that was due to signing Jeimer Candelario and trading Alex Jackson, it likely was also done as a showcase.

Harber got off to an incredible start in the lower minors this season, but has been missing in action for a while. Signed as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina, the 23-year-old hit .319/.404/.510 in 54 games between Tampa and Hudson Valley. College bats tend to murder the ball in the lower minors, but not all of them do. For now, Harber has done enough to earn a shot in the upper minors. He probably falls somewhere in the Andres Chaparro or Eric Wagaman lane, which means MLB is a reasonable goal.

The Yankees were very aggressive with Vrieling, placing him instantly in Double-A to start his debut 2024 season. He did OK after being fed to the sharks, going 13-7 with a 4.58 ERA (3.73 FIP) with a 21.3% K over 147.1 innings. An injury delayed the start to his 2025 campaign, and he owns a 4.50 ERA in 46 Double-A innings. This is the type of prospect the Yankees have traditionally dealt over the past several seasons. I see him continuing as a starter with a back-of-the-rotation type of ceiling.

De La Rosa is your typical lottery ticket. Signed for $400,000 (the Yankees typically don’t spend high on international starters, so this stands out), the 17-year-old owns a 5.32 ERA in 22 innings with a 36/5 K/BB. 17-year-old pitchers in the DSL are as volatile as you can get, but that’s an impressive K/BB for a kid his age. I will watch him closely as he moves up.

The Bottom Line:

This is the craziest deadline in recent history, all across baseball. Cashman revamped the bullpen and the position player mix immensely. I am not shocked about the bullpen. I am shocked by the bench pieces they acquired. It feels as if he found the light, no longer mostly ignoring the bench. Aaron Boone has a lot of versatility to work with, and we will see how he deploys it all. When Aaron Judge returns, someone has to go. I hate to say it, but Cabellero has options. I don’t know if that is the path they will go down, or what other paths are possible. Technically, they can go with 12 pitches and 14 position players (the only rule is that you can’t have more than 13 pitchers), but that would be unusual, and it just shifts the logjam elsewhere. Until Judge comes back, there is nothing to worry about.

The Yankees made these moves while trading only one top ten prospect (Rafael Flores). It looks like they aimed high with starting pitchers instead of looking at 4th/5th starter types who would come with lower price tags. You can criticize that part, but none of the big starters were moved today. The “aim-high” guy (Minnesota’s Joe Ryan) required a massive package that the Red Sox supposedly weren’t even close to meeting. We don’t know what the Marlins wanted for Sandy Alcantara or Edward Cabrera, but Spencer Jones‘ name likely came up. The Padres didn’t move Dylan CeaseMost of the starters traded today were mid-to-lower-rotation types, and Cashman likely wasn’t interested in pitchers at that level. Criticizing that is fine, but if you like Cam Schlittler, it may buy him more time in the rotation.  I am not as upset with that as I expected to be, as I thought they would at least look to acquire a #3 type. They decided against it at the prices being asked.

Overall, I am a fan of the deadline. I like some of the prospects they traded, but is there a high-impact MLB player in that mix? I am not so sure. As stated above, not every player needs to be high-impact to be valuable. But those are also the type of prospects you shouldn’t be scared to trade.

Yankees MILB 7/23: Jesus Rodriguez Extends Hitting Streak

Notes:

Pipeline released a new Top 30 list, and Carlos Lagrange has jumped all the way to #2 (behind George Lombard Jr.). He also joined the Top 100. RHP Cam Schlittler is now third while Spencer Jones, despite his incredible hot streak, dropped to 4th.  LHP Griffin Herring surged up the list to 8th. Seven of their top ten prospects are pitchers (Lombard Jr., Jones, and Rafael Flores are the position players.)

This was not a “full” update, which will come in August. They decided to update the list to better reflect prospect value at the Trade Deadline.  Hence, no recent draftees appear on the list.

Injury Log

Scranton (56-38; 18-4 in second half) (Defeated Rochester, 8-6, in 11 innings)

DH Jesus Rodriguez2-for-6, R, CS (8), K
Rodriguez increases his hitting streak to 11 (14-for-44 (.318), 9 BB).
LF Everson Pereira: 2-for-6, HR (19), 3 RBI, R, K
Pereira has homered in four of his last five games. He is tied for third in the International League in homers (though I don’t know how the players he is tied with did today/tonight).
CF Spencer Jones0-for-4, SF, RBI, R, HBP, K
His Triple-A average drops below .400 (the horrors!)
C Rafael Flores0-for-3, R, 3 BB, 2 K
Flores has an interesting power profile that is elevated if he can catch even part-time (think Ben Rice, in that regard). If another organization projects him as a viable catcher, that should increase his trade value. He is Rule 5 eligible this winter.
1B T.J. Rumfield1-for-6, RBI, 2 K
3B Jeimer Candelario0-for-5
If you thought he could help the third base situation, look somewhere else. He is 7-for-49 since signing.
RF Bryan De La Cruz2-for-4, 2 2B (9), R, BB, 2 K
SS Braden Shewmake0-for-2, K
Shewmake was activated off the injured list today.
  2B Jose Rojas: 2-for-2, 2B (24), RBI, R
  PR Duke Ellis0-for-0
Ellis came in to pinch run and was instantly picked off. That would fit in perfectly with the big club.
  2B Nicky Lopez0-for-1, R, SB (3)
2B-SS Andrew Velazquez1-for-4, 2B (13), R, BB

RHP Luis Gil3.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, HR
The numbers weren’t impressive, but he got in his work. Gil used his fastball (36%), slider (43%), and changeup (21%) mix, topping out at 96.2 with the fastball (94.4 average). He generated 11 whiffs on 32 swings.
RHP Kervin Castro1.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
Castro hit 95.3 MPH, generating six whiffs on ten swings with his fastball. He owns a 1.69 ERA (26.2 IP, 14 H, 8 R, 5 ER, 1 HR, 12 BB, 36 K)
RHP Clayton Beeter1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Beeter’s live arm (maxed at 98.7) will allow him to get plenty of MLB chances. Can he harness fastball/slider combo to develop into a consistent option?
RHP Baron Stuart0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
LHP Brent Headrick1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Eric Reyzelman: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
Reyzelman was humming in his first inning of work, reaching 98.4 MPH while striking out the side. They put him out there in the 10th, and the velocity was down, though he did record a 4th strikeout. Season: 4.03 ERA (38 IP, 24 H, 17 R, 17 ER, 5 HR, 39 BB, 40 K).
RHP Leonardo Pestana: (W, 2-3)  2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
RHP Edinson Duran (S, 1): 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Scranton ran out of pitchers, so they trotted out their #3 catcher to get the final out. It was his second career pitching appearance (2022).

Somerset (49-43; 14-9 in second half) (Defeated Erie, 3-1)

CF Brendan Jones1-for-4, HR (4), RBI, 2 R, BB, 2 K
Since promotion: .231/.322/.408 in 152 PA (7 doubles, 2 triples, 4 HR, 25 RBI, 19 R, 9-for-10 SB, 12.5% BB, 21.1% K). It’s not always a perfect barometer, but one way to gauge a team’s sentiment about a prospect is their lineup placement.
SS George Lombard Jr.1-for-5, 2B (11), R, 3 K
Lombard Jr. has a 6-game hitting streak (7-for-26; 3 doubles, 2 HR). He owns a .404 SLG in July. While he showed off his plate discipline upon promotion, he is now showcasing more power. If he is good enough, the package will come together.
2B Roc Riggio1-for-5, 2B (9), RBI, K
18 of his 33 Double-A hits have gone for extra bases (9 doubles, 9 HR).
LF Jace Avina1-for-2, 2 BB, K
Since promotion: 6-for-27 (2 doubles, 1 HR, 8 BB, 7 K). While he is hitting only .222, his small sample OBP (.400) and SLG (.481) are solid.
3B Dylan Jasso2-for-4, RBI
.263/.334/.449 in 353 PA (13 doubles, 5 triples, 12 HR, 47 RBI, 48 R, 7.9% BB, 21.8% K).  Jasso’s game features a reverse split (.833 OPS vs. RHP; .615 vs. LHP)
DH Omar Martinez1-for-4
Since promotion: .227/.303/.379 in 76 PA
1B Tyler Hardman0-for-4, K
C Tomas Frick0-for-3, BB, K
Frick’s Double-A debut (.227/.344/.383 in 44 High-A games)
RF Cam Eden1-for-4, 2 K

RHP Trystan Vrieling4.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K
Vrieling was pulled after 73 pitches. He owns a 4.39 ERA in 41 IP (45 H, 22 R, 20 ER, 5 HR, 16 BB, 38 K). In July: 13.2 IP, 10 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 16 K.
RHP Cole Ayers (W, 1-1): 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
RHP Mason Vinyard1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
RHP Danny Watson (S, 3): 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
6.48 ERA (33.1 IP, 42 H, 25 R, 24 ER, 6 HR, 7 BB, 36 K). July: 6 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 0 BB, 7 K.  Watson hasn’t allowed a walk over his last 15 appearances.

Hudson Valley (52-36; 15-10 second half) (Lost to Rome, 6-1)

CF Jackson Castillo0-for-4, K
.239/.335/.330 in 355 PA (14 doubles, 1 triple, 4 HR, 41 RBI, 40 R, 18-for-19 SB, 11.8% BB, 19.7% K). After a red-hot start to July, he is in a 0-for-15 slide (his July triple slash is still .278/.371/.426).
DH Dillon Lewis2-for-4
Since promotion: .221/.280/.416 in 162 PA (4 doubles, 2 triples, 7 HR, 21 RBI, 14 R, 6-for-6 SB, 6.8% BB, 19.8% K). His BABIP is .236.
LF Coby Morales1-for-3, R, BB
SS Alexander Vargas0-for-4, 3 K
3B Josh Moylan1-for-4, 2B (14), RBI, K
.191/.328/.321. He entered July at .170/.311/.282. Moylan had some hype as an undrafted free agent but the bat has yet to come around.
C John Cristino: 0-for-4, SB (1), 2 K
1B Kiko Romero0-for-2, BB, K
2B Brenny Escanio0-for-3
RF Anthony Hall1-for-3

RHP Tyrone Yulie0.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 2 HR
His first full year as a reliever hasn’t gone to plan: 6.23 ERA (26 IP, 23 H, 19 R, 18 ER, 3 HR, 16 BB, 35 K). June and July have been especially rough.
RHP Bryce Warrecker1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
1.33 ERA (40.2 IP, 20 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 0 HR, 9 BB, 42 K). Hitters have a .147/.203/.199 triple slash off of him.

Yankees MILB 7/20: Spencer Jones Has Gone Bananas

Notes:

According to the Baseball America signing tracker, 8th-round pick Mac Heuer has signed his name on the dotted line.  The Yankees have signed all of their picks from the first ten rounds.

The 21-year-old right-handed pitcher made 14 starts for Texas Tech in 2025, going 2-4 with a 6.28 ERA in 53 innings with a 48/23 K/BB. He was originally drafted by the Cleveland Guardians in 2023 but opted to go to college for two years. He also has Cape Cod League roots, throwing 6.2 innings as a 19-year-old in 2023.

I assume that his talent exceeds his performance, which makes sense. He is a big kid (6’5″) who supposedly hums in the mid-to-upper 90s.

In case you are wondering, first-round pick Dax Kilby received an overslot bonus of $2.8 million. The slot was $2,509,500. The Yankees saved slot money with 5th-round pick Core Jackson, who had low leverage as a college senior. When you look at the savings from his bonus, it covers what Kilby signed for.  Jackson is a shortstop out of the University of Utah.

We are still waiting on confirmation on RHP Brennan Stuprich (14th round; Southeastern Louisiana), SS Jackson Lovich (16th; Missouri), and RHP Hayden Morris (19th; Blinn College (JC)).  It appears that Stuprich and Lovich are signed but haven’t been added to the tracker. Morris has leverage as a Junior College kid. He could opt to go to a 4-year school.

So far, their picks between the 11th and 20th rounds have signed for the standard $150,000, which is more than Jackson received.  You are allowed to sign players in these rounds for more than $150,000, but any money over that counts against your bonus pool.

Injury Log

Scranton (55-37; 17-3 in second half) (Knocked out Worcester, 8-2, for their 11th straight win)

LF Everson Pereira1-for-5, HR (18), RBI, R, 2 K
Pereira, who is being overshadowed by a certain someone, has homered in three straight games.
CF Spencer Jones: 4-for-5, 2B (5), 2 HR (10), 2 RBI, 4 R, K (second straight 4-hit effort)
This is getting ridiculous. Today’s first home run was hit 445 feet at 109.6 MPH to center. He ties Ryan Ward (who hits minor league home runs for a living) for the overall minor league lead with 26. Last night, I commented that he was tied for first amongst all minor leaguers in OPS. After the dust cleared, he ended up being 0.01 points behind Mike Sirota. He should be in first place now in both OPS and wRC+ after today!
One of the criticisms (beyond the strikeouts) was his ground ball rate. This year, he has lowered that considerably, from 42.3% in 2024 to 30.7% (entering today). His percentages portray a player who hits the ball to all fields (not dead pull). That showed itself today, as his home runs were to center field and left field.
He is hitting .426/.481/.941 (1.422 OPS) since his promotion (16 games; 79 PA). That’s right: Jones has five doubles and ten home runs in 16 Triple-A games and 13 doubles/26 HR in 65 games overall.
C Rafael Flores2-for-5, R, K
Fans in Scranton get to witness the multi-hit machine Flores is for the first time today. This is his 29th multi-hit effort this season.
1B T.J. Rumfield: 3-for-4, 2B (24), RBI, R, HBP
Rumfield is 16-for-31 (.516) during his 8-game hitting streak. He has eight multi-hit efforts in his last 11 games and is up to .311/.394/.505.
3B Jeimer Candelario2-for-5, 2B (6), 2 RBI, R, 2 K
Candelario is 7-for-40 (.175) with a pair of doubles since being signed.
RF Bryan De La Cruz0-for-3, HBP, K
  RF Ismael Munguia1-for-1
DH Jose Rojas0-for-3, SF, RBI, HBP, K
2B Nicky Lopez0-for-4, BB
SS Andrew Velazquez0-for-4, 2 K

RHP Carlos Carrasco: (W, 3-2)  7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, HR
RHP Bailey Dees1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Bees’ Triple-A debut. He is a big kid who doesn’t wow you with velocity (maxed at 93.3 MPH). He also mixed in a slider and a changeup. It was nice to get some Savant data.
RHP Leonardo Pestana1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K

Somerset (48-42; 13-8 in second half) (Lost to Hartford, 3-2)

SS George Lombard Jr.1-for-4, HR (4), 2 RBI, R, K
Since the break: 4-for-14 with two doubles and two home runs (he has homered in back-to-back games). This follows a solid effort in the Futures Game over All-Star Weekend.
2B Roc Riggio0-for-4, 2 K
RF Jace Avina1-for-3, BB
Avina is 4-for-20 with a double and a homer since his promotion.
CF Brendan Jones1-for-4, K
Nice to see him get a hit, but the description of it in the 9th wasn’t flattering. Down 3-2 with one out in the 9th, he seemingly singled and was instantly caught in a rundown for the second out.  I would have to see this play because it’s very odd in its description.
DH Dylan Jasso0-for-3, BB, K
  PR Cam Eden0-for-0
C Omar Martinez0-for-4, K
1B Tyler Hardman0-for-3, 2 K
LF Cole Gabrielson0-for-3, K
3B Max Burt0-for-1, R, 2 HBP

LHP Ben Shields: (L, 1-1) 5.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
At this level: 2.89 ERA (18.2 IP, 15 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 0 HR, 7 BB, 23 K).
RHP Luis Pacheco0.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Kelly Austin0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K
RHP Michael Arias1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
His rehab stint is over, as he was officially assigned here (instead of going to Scranton).

Hudson Valley (52-35; 14-9 second half) (Their game against Jersey Shore was postponed due to wet grounds. They will try to make it up on August 20th. Drenching rain crushed the Jersey Shore area overnight.)

Tampa (45-43; 9-14 in second half) (Lost to Dunedin, 7-1)

C Edgleen Perez0-for-3, 2 BB, K
.206/.369/.230 in 358 PA. Since I declared he was figuring on this level: 0-for-23 with only three of his trademark walks.
SS Roderick Arias2-for-5, 2 K
Arias is again pushing to reach .200 for the first time this season. He is at .198/.318/.304 and has three multi-hit efforts in his last seven games.
DH Engelth Urena0-for-4, 2 K
CF Willy Montero0-for-4, 2 K
3B Juan Matheus1-for-3, R, 4 SB (35), BB
Stolen base rates: Before 2025: 38-for-55 (69.1%) in 109 games. 2025: 35-for-43 (81.4%) in 83 games.
RF Marshall Toole0-for-3, BB, 2 K
The 11-game hitting streak is snapped. Toole is hitting .312/.418/.498 in 244 PA (12 doubles, 10 triples, 2 HR, 27 RBI, 46 R, 27-for-30 SB). He leads the Florida State League in batting average and (shockingly) slugging percentage despite hitting only two home runs. Additionally, he is second in OBP.
LF Hans Montero: 2-for-4, RBI, K
Montero, who is hitting .254/.335/.408, is adapting to his utility role. He has added 1B/LF/RF to 2B/3B this season. He no longer plays shortstop.
2B Owen Cobb1-for-4
1B Josue Gonzalez0-for-3, BB, 2 K

RHP Cade Smith2.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
The 23-year-old’s rehab was moved from the FCL to here today. He touched 94.9 MPH with his four-seamer and used his entire arsenal. I am not sure I trust Savant’s data, which suggests he mixed six pitches. His best three pitches are his slider, curve, and 4-seamer. According to Pipeline, Smith is their 14th-ranked prospect
LHP Tanner Bauman1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K
RHP Mariano Salomon: (L, 0-3) 2.1 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 2 HR
RHP Chris Veach1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, HR
1.86 ERA (38.2 IP, 28 H, 13 R, 8 ER, 4 HR, 20 BB, 52 K). Veach can dial it up to the mid-90s, which is important for his bread-and-butter changeup.

Yankees MILB 7/19: Spencer Jones, George Lombard Jr. Homer

Notes:

C/1B Rafael Flores has finally been promoted to Scranton. Given Jesus Rodriguez‘s ability to play third base, there will be plenty of playing time for both.

After playing in 162 games for High-A Hudson Valley, Flores played in 152 for Somerset. He hit .281/.351/.505 with 37 doubles, a triple, 30 home runs, 89 RBI, 88 runs, 12 stolen bases (12 attempts), 25.97% K, and 9.0% BB. After posting a 153 wRC+ in Double-A in 2024, he compiled a 147 wRC+ in 2025.

Other promotions today include RHP Bailey Dees going to Scranton, C Tomas Frick going to Somerset, and C/1B John Cristino going from the FCL to Hudson Valley. Cristino has little professional experience (32 games) but is 25 years old.

RHP Yerry De los Santos, who pitched fairly well for the Yankees earlier this season, has started a rehab stint in Somerset.

Injury Log

Scranton (54-37; 16-3 in second half) (Outslugged Worcester, 10-8. They’ve scored 21 runs in two games since the break)

RF Everson Pereira1-for-5, HR (17), RBI, 2 R, K
Pereira leads off the game with a 357-foot home run.  He has homered in back-to-back games and has five in his last nine games. His triple slash sits at .260/.360/.519 in 275 plate appearances. I mentioned last night that he had 82 homers in 392 games. I should have added that he hit four home runs in his first 59 career games.
CF Spencer Jones4-for-5, 2B (4), HR (8), 3 RBI, R, BB
Not to be outdone, Jones followed up Pereira’s home run with a 433-foot, 107.4 MPH bomb to center. For Scranton, he is hitting .397/.459/.841 in 74 PA (4 doubles, 8 HR, 18 RBI, 19 R, 6-for-6 SB, 12.2% BB, 27.0% K). Overall, he is hitting .307/.408/.660 in 282 PA (12 doubles, 24 HR, 50 RBI, 61 R, 16-for-18 SB, 14.5% BB, 31.9% K). Amongst all minor leaguers who have played in full-season leagues all season, his 1.068 OPS is tied for first with Mike Sirota (LAD). Incredible.
C Rafael Flores1-for-6, 2 K
Flores finally makes his Triple-A debut.
1B T.J. Rumfield2-for-3, 2B (23), RBI, R, 3 BB, K
.306/.388/.498 in 353 PA with 11 homers and an organization-leading 64 RBI. Rumfield is on a 7-game hitting streak that features five multi-hit efforts and has seven multi-hit games over his last ten contests.
3B Jeimer Candelario1-for-6, R, K
2B Jose Rojas4-for-5, 3B (3), 3 HR (17), 5 RBI, 3 R

SS Nicky Lopez1-for-4, 2B (2), BB, 2 K
Lopez is 13-for-36 (.361) since joining the organization.

RHP Clayton Beeter (W, 1-0): 1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

1.80 ERA (25 IP, 11 H, 8 R, 5 ER, 1 HR, 12 BB, 32 K)

Somerset (48-41; 13-7 in second half) (Lost to Hartford, 6-5, in ten innings. The minors are about development. It’s going to be tough for Somerset to replace Spencer Jones and Rafael Flores, but others will need to pick up the slack.)

SS George Lombard Jr.2-for-5, 2B (10), HR (3), RBI, R
Coming out of the break, Lombard Jr. has a pair of doubles and a homer. He is hitting .208/.329/.325 in 255 plate appearances since his promotion.
2B Roc Riggio1-for-3, HR (9), RBI, R, SB (6), CS (3), HBP, BB, 2 K
Since promotion: .276/.359/.578 in 131 PA (8 doubles, 9 HR, 24 RBI, 23 R, 6-for-9 SB, 8.4% BB, 22.1% K). Overall, Riggio has 12 doubles and 16 home runs in 53 games. His stolen base percentage has taken a hit this year (8-for-15 after a 27-for-33 rate last year)

C Omar Martinez0-for-3, 2 BB, K

1B Tyler Hardman0-for-3, R, BB, 3 K
LF Cam Eden: 2-for-4, 3B (1), R, SB (5), CS (2)

3.71 ERA (70.1 IP, 55 H, 32 R, 29 ER, 7 HR, 36 BB, 85 K). Sellers has shown the ability to miss bats (185 strikeouts in 154 career innings) and, despite what happened tonight, limits hits (98). The walks are high (76).
RHP Mason Vinyard0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
RHP Yerry De los Santos1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR

A rare misstep for Warrecker. His ERA is up to 1.38.
RHP Jordany Ventura1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Tampa (45-42; 9-13 in second half) (Lost to Dunedin, 12-4)

DH Edgleen Perez0-for-4, 2 K
I jinxed Perez before the break, and I will never forgive myself.
SS Roderick Arias0-for-4, 2 K
C Engelth Urena1-for-4, 2 K
CF Willy Montero0-for-4, 2 K
3B Juan Matheus1-for-4, 2B (20), R
LF Wilson Rodriguez1-for-4, 2B (2), R, K
Rodriguez is 10-for-40 since his promotion.
RF Tyler Wilson1-for-3, HR (5), RBI, R, K
   RF Marshall Toole1-for-1
Talk about clutch – Toole gets one shot to extend his hitting streak and does it!  His streak is up to 11, which has increased his triple slash from .287/.388/.443 to .317/.421/.505.
1B Hans Montero: 2-for-4, HR (9), 2 RBI, R, K
Montero has sneakily hit nine balls over the fence in 64 games. It’s a new personal best.
2B Owen Cobb1-for-3, 2B (8)

LHP Xavier Rivas: (L, 2-2)  3 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR

RHP Jack Sokol2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR
RHP Jackson Fristoe1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, HR

FCL (26-29) (Won a thriller against the FCL Tigers, 7-6, in ten innings. They scored three runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie it, only for the Tigers to score a pair in the top of the 10th. The Yankees countered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Interestingly, they scored seven runs on seven hits without the aid of an extra-base hit. They walked “only” five times. Good things happen when you go 4-for-6 with a sacrifice fly with RISP.)

SS Dexters Peralta1-for-5, R, SB (8), K
After a disastrous 6-for-62 start, Peralta is 14-for-66 (.212). That includes going 11-for-38 (.282) in July. At least he will go into the offseason on a good note.
2B Enmanuel Tejeda1-for-3, RBI, R, 2 SB (2), CS (1), K
Tejeda is 7-for-23 with three doubles during his rehab stint. In 43 games for Tampa last season, he hit .310/.353/.369 with 24 stolen bases in 28 attempts. He did that as a 19-year-old.
   2B Luis Escudero1-for-1, RBI, R
DH Ediel Rivera0-for-3, R, SB (10), BB, K
CF Isael Arias0-for-3, RBI, R, SB (23), 2 BB, K
C John Cristino: 1-for-3, RBI, BB, K

2.19 ERA (53.1 IP, 42 H, 18 R, 13 ER, 4 HR, 20 BB, 41 K). The 20-year-old continues his impressive campaign.

Yankees MILB 7/5: Everson Pereira Completes the Cycle

Notes:

1B/3B Jeimer Candelario was signed to a minor league deal after being released by the Cincinnati Reds.

Candelario, a 31-year-old switch-hitter, hit a robust .113/.198/.213 (10 wRC+ – they give you nine points just for spelling your name right)  in 91 plate appearances for the Reds this season. Yay.

In an ill-advised deal, the Reds signed him to a  3-year, $45 million contract heading into 2024. This was after a 4-year stretch where he hit .254/.329/.437 (113 OPS+). In 134 games for the Reds, he hit .207/.265/.394 in 554 plate appearances with 25 doubles, 22 homers, and 66 RBI.

In case you are wondering, the Reds are still on the hook for most of the money. The Yankees will pay him the prorated league minimum, which gets deducted from his Reds pay.

Will they call him up? They likely signed him with that possibility in mind, but he shouldn’t excite anyone at this point. His bat has tanked, and his defense doesn’t make up for it.

The Yankees also signed veteran RHP Joel Kuhnel to a minor league contract. He was recently released from his minor league deal with the Phillies.

Kuhnel, 30, has 82 games of MLB experience, mostly with the Cincinnati Reds, in addition to cameos with the Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays. Most of his action came with the 2022 Reds, where he posted a 6.36 ERA in 53 games (58 IP, 67 H, 8 HR, 14 BB, 56 K). Overall, in 82 MLB games, he owns a 5.86 ERA in 93.2 IP with a 52% GB, 18.7% K, and 5.9% BB. His pitch mix includes a 4-seamer, sinker, slider, and changeup.

Left-handed reliever Will Brian was placed on the injured list for Somerset today.

RHP Geoff Hartlieb, designated for assignment by the Yankees earlier this week, has elected free agency, while former Top 100 prospect (not as a Yankee!) Ronaldo Hernandez was released. The right-handed hitting catcher wasn’t used much, appearing in 25 games for Scranton, hitting .221/.287/.351 with a pair of homers and 13 RBI.

Injury Log

Scranton (45-37) (Crushed Lehigh Valley, 16-6)

2B Jorbit Vivas0-for-3, 2 R, 3 BB, 2 K
We’ll take the three walks, but Vivas is in a 3-for-29 slump.
3B Jesus Rodriguez1-for-5, 2B (13), 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, K
RF Spencer Jones: 2-for-4, SF, RBI, 2 R, SB (2), BB, K
Since promotion: .393/.486/.821 in 35 PA (2 doubles, 3 HR, 4 RBI, 8 R, 2-for-2 SB, 6 BB, 11 K (31.4%)). Overall, he is hitting .291/.403/.626 in 243 PA (11 doubles, 19 HR, 36 RBI, 50 R, 12-for-14 SB, 15.6% BB, 33.3% K). If I was a General Manager, it would be difficult for me to give up a talent like this, even if I recognize the bust potential.
CF Everson Pereira5-for-6, 2B (7), 3B (1), 2 HR (15), 6 RBI, 4 R
Pereira with the cycle!  This is his second career 5-hit game (8/12/21; 5-for-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI), and he misses his personal best for RBI (7 on 6/17/22). As for past cycles, Ryder Green accomplished one for Pulaski (a Yankees affiliate at the time) in 2019. Green was an interesting prospect once upon a time. Injuries derailed him. If there has been a more recent one (probably), I can’t find it. Back to Pereira: He has 3 HR and 9 RBI in his last two games (11 RBI in four July contests).
1B T.J. Rumfield3-for-5, 4 RBI, BB
.287/.371/.464 in 310 PA (18 doubles, 1 triple, 9 HR, 50 RBI, 47 R, 4-for-5 SB, 10.9% BB, 18.4% K).
DH Bryan De La Cruz2-for-5, HR (8), RBI, R, BB, K
Since signing with the Yankees’ organization, De La Cruz has eight homers in 46 games.
SS Nicky Lopez2-for-4, 2 R, 2 BB, K
His debut as a member of the Yankees’ organization. The signing of Candelario doesn’t invade his space, given that they only overlap at third base.
C Alex Jackson0-for-3, 2 R, 2 BB
LF Duke Ellis2-for-5, 2B (2), 2 RBI, R, SB (9), K

RHP Allan Winans: (W, 8-0)  5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
1.30 ERA (55.1 IP, 45 H, 10 R, 8 ER, 1 HR, 15 BB, 59 K). Winans has done his job here. I won’t try to convince you that he showed much in MLB. He’s a pitcher who has to be precise with everything, or he is going to get hit.
RHP Luis Pacheco0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K
RHP Eric Reyzelman1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
This is as sharp as we have seen Reyzelman this year. Can he follow it up? Season: 3.82 ERA (33 IP, 20 H, 14 R, 14 ER, 4 HR, 37 BB, 34 K)
RHP Joel Kuhnel1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
His Yankees’ organizational debut didn’t go as planned.
RHP Leonardo Pestana0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Somerset (41-39) (Walked it off against Reading, 4-3)

2B Roc Riggio: 4-for-5, 2 2B (8), 2 RBI, R
Riggio walks it off with a 1-out, 2-run single. It’s his first career 4-hit effort, and he is hitting .282/.339/.592 since his promotion. The pop continues to show up, as he has 16 extra-base hits in 26 games for Somerset (8 doubles, 8 HR). As a Yankees fan, the thing that should intrigue you is his pull power. If he stays with the organization, the porch will play into his game.
SS George Lombard Jr.0-for-3, HBP
Lombard Jr. has run into a little 2-for-20 slump. Typically, when he isn’t hitting, he still gets on base. However, this slump includes only two walks and two HBP.  It happens.
C Rafael Flores0-for-3, BB, K
1B Dylan Jasso0-for-3, SF, RBI
LF Garrett Martin1-for-4, R, 2 K
CF Brendan Jones0-for-2, R, SB (4), 2 BB
Jones is 27-for-32 (84.4%) stealing bases between here and Hudson Valley.
DH Omar Martinez1-for-4, 2B (2), K
Martinez is 6-for-27 with two doubles and a homer since being promoted.
RF Cam Eden0-for-3, R, BB, 3 K
3B Max Burt1-for-4, RBI, 2 K
The veteran minor leaguer kept the line moving with an RBI single in the 9th.

LHP Ben Shields4.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K
For Somerset: 8 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 13 K. They stretched him to 70 pitches tonight (Shields has been rehabbing from an injury)
RHP Mason Vinyard1.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
RHP Hayden Merda1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 2 K
Double-A can be tough to adjust to. That’s a statement that always stands the test of time.
RHP Indigo Diaz1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
3.78 ERA (33.1 IP, 23 H, 15 R, 14 ER, 2 HR, 15 BB, 30 K)

Hudson Valley (46-32) (Shut down Brooklyn, 7-0)

DH Jace Avina1-for-4, SB (3), BB, K
.284/.402/.438 in 204 PA (13 doubles, 4 HR, 24 RBI, 31 R, 14.2% BB, 25% K). Who was the better prospect acquired for Jake Bauers? Most say Avina over Brian Sanchez, though Sanchez is making strides.
CF Dillon Lewis0-for-4, BB, K
1B Coby Morales0-for-5, 2 K
LF Jackson Castillo: 2-for-4, 2 R, SB (14), BB, K
Last 7 games: 9-for-26 (.346) with five runs scored.
SS Alexander Vargas1-for-3, 2 R, SB (7), 2 BB
Vargas has a 14-game hitting streak. Would you be shocked, given what baseball is, to find out that he started this streak after a 2-for-23 stretch?
3B Jose Colmenares2-for-4, 2B (11), RBI, R, BB
C Manuel Palencia1-for-5, 2B (1), 3 RBI, R, 2 K
This was a 1-0 game in the 8th inning, when Palencia cleared the bases with a double.
RF Luis Durango1-for-4, R, K
2B Duncan Pastore1-for-3, BB, K

RHP Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz: (W, 6-4)  7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 8 K
2.26 ERA (83.2 IP, 52 H, 27 R, 21 ER, 1 HR, 37 BB, 99 K). Will the 21-year-old finish the season in Somerset? Possible. This is the second time this season that he tossed seven shutout innings. He has two other starts where he pitched 6.1 shutout frames. By the way, he tossed 89.2 innings in 2024.
RHP Jordany Ventura1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K
RHP Tyrone Yulie0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Tampa (43-35) (Lost a doubleheader to Clearwater)

Game 1 (Lost, 6-3. This was the conclusion of Thursday’s game.)

CF Brian Sanchez1-for-5, R, K
C Engelth Urena1-for-5, 2B (12), 3 K
SS Roderick Arias: 2-for-5, HR (5), 2 RBI, R, 2 K
Arias has homered three times in his last two games.
3B Juan Matheus3-for-4, 2B (17), SB (30)
Matheus leads the Yankees’ organization in stolen bases. This is his 19th multi-hit game this year.
RF Wilson Rodriguez0-for-4
Rodriguez’s Low-A debut.
LF Austin Green0-for-3, R, BB, 3 K
1B Hans Montero1-for-4
RF Marshall Toole1-for-3, 3B (8), RBI, BB
Toole is among the minor league leaders in triples (only Raudi Rodriguez (LAA) has reached double digits).
2B Owen Cobb1-for-3, BB
Cobb’s first game since June 13th. He is hitting .333/.389/.538 in 110 plate appearances while playing second base, shortstop, and third base.

LHP Xavier Rivas3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, HR
Not the way he wanted to follow up his 13-strikeout effort. That’s the way it goes.
RHP Mariano Salomon (L, 0-1): 3.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Salomon’s Low-A debut. We get some Savant data now. He featured a four-pitch mix that includes a 4-seamer, change, slider, and curve. He didn’t throw hard (max: 89.5 MPH).
RHP Michael Arias1.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Arias averaged 96.1 MPH with his sinker (max: 97.3), if you are wondering why the Yankees acquired him. He is here on a rehab stint.

Game 2 (Lost, 4-2, in six innings. More rain wiped out the 7th inning)

C Edgleen Perez0-for-3
CF Brian Sanchez0-for-3
SS Roderick Arias0-for-2, R, BB, K
DH Engelth Urena0-for-3, R
3B Juan Matheus1-for-3, 2B (18), RBI, K
Matheus has yet to homer, but he has 18 doubles and 34 RBI to go with his 30 stolen bases in 73 games. He hit five homers (all in the FCL) in 54 games last year but was only 12-for-19 stealing bases.
LF Wilson Rodriguez: 1-for-2, SB (1), BB
Rodriguez’s first Low-A hit.
RF Marshall Toole1-for-1, 2 BB
.299/.403/.471 in 221 PA (10 doubles, 8 triples, 2 HR, 22 RBI, 42 R, 26-for-28 SB, 14.5% BB, 19.9% K).
2B Owen Cobb0-for-2, BB, 2 K
1B Josue Gonzalez0-for-3, 2 K

RHP Andrew Landry3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K
4.20 ERA (64.1 IP, 70 H, 39 R, 30 ER, 4 HR, 26 BB, 63 K)
RHP Justin Lange: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Lange’s rehab is over, and he was assigned here.
RHP Jackson Fristoe: (L, 3-2)  1.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, HR
RHP Cole Zaffiro0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

FCL (20-24) (Tried to play two games against the Phillies. They completed one of them)

Game 1 (Lost, 4-1)

SS Dexters Peralta2-for-3, 2B (3)
DH Enmanuel Tejeda0-for-2, BB, K
The first rehab game for Tejeda, one of my favorite under-the-radar prospects. Before his injury in 2024, Tejeda hit .326/.371/.408 in 203 plate appearances. In those 48 games, he stole 26 bases in 30 attempts. I think there is utility upside with this kid, who is on the smaller side of the ledger (5’9″).
CF Willy Montero2-for-3, BB
I assume Montero’s rehab stint is nearly over.
C Ediel Rivera1-for-3, K
RF JoJo Jackson1-for-1
Good news: Jackson earns his first hit during his rehab stint. Bad news: He was immediately lifted for a pinch-runner.
3B Santiago Gomez0-for-3
They cleared the logjam in Low-A by returning Gomez here. While he hit only .170/.310/.255 in 15 Low-A games, he did steal nine bases in ten attempts and started playing better towards the end. It’s a numbers game.

RHP Omar Gonzalez (L, 1-3): 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 2 HR
4.30 ERA (37.2 IP, 24 H, 18 R, 18 ER, 5 HR, 22 BB, 39 K)

Game 2 (Tied, 1-1, in the bottom of the 8th. This game was suspended. I don’t see a date for conclusion as the FCL is off on Sundays)

LF Gabriel Lara1-for-2, 2B (5), K
  PH-LF Santiago Gomez1-for-1, CS (2)
Lara hadn’t played in a while, so that is likely why he wasn’t going to play the full game.
RF Luis Puello1-for-3, R, SB (3)
2B Gabriel Terrero1-for-3, RBI, SB (6), K

RHP Edinzo Marquez5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
The 20-year-old is pitching well: 2.66 ERA (44 IP, 36 H, 18 R, 13 ER, 4 HR, 16 BB, 34 K)

DSL Yankees (11-14) (Lost to the DSL Tigers 1, 8-7)

SS Mani Cedeno1-for-4, 2 R, BB, K
Cedeno has a little 4-game hitting streak going (4-for-15 with a pair of doubles and four runs).
CF Francisco Vilorio2-for-4, RBI, 2 R, BB
3B Richard Matic2-for-3, 3B (1), 2 RBI, CS (3), 2 BB
What a difference a year makes, as Matic is up to .313/.432/.594 in 84 PA (7 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HR, 19 RBI, 18 R). I don’t always like when prospects repeat levels, but he was 16 when he tried to conquer this place last year (.196/.333/.248). He will get to the FCL in 2026.
DH Justin Capellan0-for-3, SF, RBI, R, K
LF Estivenzon Montero2-for-5, 2B (1), 2 RBI, 3 K
.308/.384/.462 in 73 PA (1 double, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 8 R)

RHP Hector Moreno2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
The 17-year-old has struggled with control (understatement). Look at his numbers at your own risk.
RHP Anthony Mena4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR

DSL Bombers (11-13) (Defeated DSL Colorado, 8-7)

SS Stiven Marinez1-for-2, RBI, R, 2 SB (12), CS (3), BB
Marinez is a year older than Mani Cedeno, and perhaps that is why his performance has been better. He is hitting .262/.466/.328 in 88 PA with 23 walks (26.1% – ridiculous. I love the DSL) and 16 strikeouts.
DH Queni Pineda1-for-1, 2B (4), RBI, 2 R, 3 BB
.288/.475/.407 in 80 PA. His OPS was .872 in 2024, so he has conquered this place.
CF Ruben Castillo0-for-3, BB
2B Christofer Reyes2-for-4, HR (1), 3 RBI, R, SB (15)
Reyes has three 2-hit games in his last four games played, raising his small sample triple slash from .156/.255/.178 to .232/.333/.321.
LF Jose Castro1-for-3, HR (2), RBI, R, CS (1), BB
The 19-year-old has only played in seven games and is making the most of it with his double and two homers.
RF David Carrera2-for-3, R, BB
The 18-year-old has declined from his 2024 campaign. Hopefully, he finishes strong.
1B Remy Veldhuisen4-for-4, 2B (2), RBI, R, 2 SB (3)
His first career 4-hit effort (6th multi-hit game this season)

LHP Andre Avila4.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K
Avila calmed down a game that was high-scoring early. He allowed his squad to chip away and eventually win the game.
RHP Chaury Gomez (W, 1-0): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K

Yankees MILB 7/4: Everson Pereira Homers, Drives Home 3

Notes:

Bonus baby outfielder Brando Mayea was moved from the 7-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

If he does come back in 2025, it will have to be in Low-A Tampa, as the FCL schedule will run out before he is eligible to come off the list. They can make it retroactive to May 31st.

Mayea, who signed for a whopping $4.35 million, hit a solid .276/.382/.400 in 38 DSL games in 2023. Promoted to the FCL for 2024, his power dissipated (no home runs), though he still hit .281/.370/.326 with 19 stolen bases in 22 attempts. Asked to repeat the level, the 19-year-old was hitting .297/.373/.500 with three homers and 19 RBI in 84 plate appearances. He will turn 20 in September, presumably without yet tasting a full-season league.

Scranton (44-37) (Lost to Lehigh Valley, 5-4)

2B Jorbit Vivas0-for-5, K
3B Jesus Rodriguez1-for-2, HR (2), RBI, 3 R, 3 BB
Since promotion: .314/.410/.406 in 283 PA (12 doubles, 2 triples, 2 HR, 25 RBI, 41 R, 13.8% BB, 15.9% K). Rodriguez had a tough June, though he salvaged it by increasing his walk rate. He has ten walks in his last ten games.

RHP Sebastian Keane2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, HR
Keane’s Double-A debut. Over the last two years for Hudson Valley, he pitched to a 4.47 ERA in 98.2 innings with a 102/54 K/BB. Some of that time was spent in the rotation.
LHP Ryan Anderson1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, HR
RHP Kelly Austin: (W, 2-1)  2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Hudson Valley (45-32) (Lost to Brooklyn, 7-4)

CF Jace Avina1-for-5, RBI, K
RF Dillon Lewis1-for-4, CI, K
Since promotion: .189/.244/.360 in 120 PA (3 doubles, 2 triples, 4 HR, 13 RBI, 10 R, 4-for-4 SB, 5.8% BB, 21.7% K)
DH Coby Morales2-for-5, 2B (15), R
Morales is 6-for-14 with a pair of doubles in July. He was in a 0-for-15 slump heading into the month.
LF Jackson Castillo1-for-4, HR (3), 2 RBI, R, K
Castillo finally breaks his home run drought (first HR since May 15th). He’s hitting .229/.325/.316 in 308 PA (12 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HR, 39 RBI, 33 R, 13-for-13 SB). The solid RBI number is due to a strong showing with RISP.
3B Alexander Vargas1-for-4, HR (5), RBI, R
Vargas has a 13-game hitting streak (20-for-46 (.435); 3 doubles, 4 HR, 13 RBI)

Since promotion: 1.40 ERA (19.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 11 BB, 23 K). Rossi encountered the first bump in his career road the last two times out (all three runs in two innings). Hopefully, he’s back on track.

1B Hans Montero0-for-2
RF Marshall Toole1-for-2, 3B (9), RBI

LHP Xavier Rivas3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, HR

FCL (20-23)

Their game against the Phillies was postponed. They will try to play a pair tomorrow.

DSL Yankees (11-13) (Knocked off the DSL Marlins, 6-4. The pitching staff struck out 16 Marlins in this 7-inning game)

SS Mani Cedeno1-for-3, 2B (2), K
.182/.365/.242 in 85 PA. He has a pair of doubles, a triple, and three stolen bases. The strikeouts are elevated (36.5%).
CF Francisco Vilorio1-for-2, R, BB, K
.270/.434/.302 in 83 PA. His OPS is up nearly 100 points from his debut campaign, though the power is not yet showing up (two extra-base hits in 19 games. Last year, he swatted 13 extra-base hits in 42 games.)
2B Carlos Bello1-for-3, 2B (5), R, K
The 17-year-old continues his impressive debut season (.292/.440/.492 in 84 PA; 5 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR, 14 RBI, 19 R, 6-for-7 SB). While he is not a millionaire bonus baby, he did secure a $400,000 signing bonus.
3B Richard Matic: 0-for-2, R, SB (4), HBP, 2 K
.295/.408/.557 in 76 PA (7 doubles, 3 HR, 17 RBI, 18 R, 4-for-6 SB, 14.5% BB, 28.9% K). Matic struggled here as a 16-year-old in 2024 but is playing better in 2025.
C Justin Capellan2-for-3, 2 2B (7), RBI, R, CS (2)
Capellan didn’t struggle in 2024, but is showing more in 2025. Over his brief career, he has 19 doubles, 4 triples, 4 homers, 40 RBI, and 31 runs in 58 games.
DH Carlos Villarroel2-for-3, 2 HR (3), 3 RBI, 2 R
Villarroel didn’t homer in his first 14 games this season. He has three in his last two games. It isn’t often I am typing up multi-HR efforts in the rookie leagues.

LHP Carlos De La Rosa3.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
Only 17, De La Rosa is impressing with the K/BB ratio (29/3 in 15.2 innings). According to Baseball America, De La Rosa (who is only 5’11”) touches 93 MPH. The Yankees don’t typically spend big on international pitching (beyond trying to get a few Japanese stars!) but handed De La Rosa $400,000.
RHP Rafael Arias (W, 3-0): 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K
One good way to pile up wins is by being a middle reliever in the rookie leagues, where starters don’t often go five innings. The 21-year-old Arias owns a 5.30 ERA and 27/7 K/BB over 18.2 innings.
LHP Luis Rodriguez (S, 2): 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
The 20-year-old owns a 5.94 ERA in his debut campaign (16.2 IP, 20 H, 12 R, 11 ER, 1 HR, 7 BB, 16 K). The BABIP is .404.

DSL Bombers (10-13) (Split two games against the DSL Twins)

Game 1 (Lost, 16-5. This was the conclusion of a game started on June 16th. I won’t go into crazy detail.)

CF Ruben Castillo1-for-5, 3 K
SS Stiven Marinez0-for-5, K
Now that this game counts, it will bring down his triple slash a bit.
C Queni Pineda1-for-3, 2 R, K

RHP Diego Carrillo3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
4.38 ERA (12.1 IP, 11 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 HR, 6 BB, 10 K)

Game 2 (Won, 9-5)

DH Stiven Marinez1-for-4, 2B (2), SB (10), BB
.254/.464/.322 in 84 PA. Marinez is 10-for-12 stealing bases and has a 26.2% BB rate.
CF Ruben Castillo0-for-5, R, 3 K
SS Christofer Reyes2-for-4, RBI, R, 2 K
RF Jose Castro1-for-3, 2 R, SB (1), BB, K
.267/.368/.533. It’s only 19 PA, though.
3B-1B Leni Done0-for-4
2B Adrian Feliz1-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 SB (3), K
C Carlos Rodon0-for-1, R, SB (1), 2 BB
  PR-3B Juan Torres: 1-for-1, 2 R, CS (4)
The 17-year-old is hitting .309/.387/.473 in 62 PA (3 doubles, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 12 R, 6-for-10 SB)
1B-C Edgar Jimenez0-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 K
Productive outs!
LF Eddinson Charles1-for-4, RBI, SB (2), 3 K

RHP Alexis Gonzalez1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
LHP Ronald Tejada (W, 1-1): 2.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

Yankees MILB 6/17: Jesus Rodriguez is Rolling

Notes:

Infielder Owen Cobb and infielder/outfielder Austin Green were placed on the injured list for Tampa. That likely explains the promotion of Santiago Gomez last week.

Cobb, a 23-year-old signed as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford, is hitting .333/.385/.544 in 106 plate appearances. He is 11-for-14 stealing bases.

Green, 23, was drafted in the 14th round in the 2024 draft out of Texas Tech. He is hitting .184/.295/.305 in 166 plate appearances with four homers and 29 RBI. That’s solid production for a .600 OPS, and that is courtesy of being 5-for-6 with a grand slam and 13 RBI with the bases loaded.

Injury Log

Scranton (36-31) (Defeated Louisville, 4-3. Scranton is rolling!)

DH Jesus Rodriguez3-for-5, 2B (12), RBI, R
Rodriguez has five multi-hit efforts in his last 11 games and has nine 3-hit games this season.  He has enough plate appearances to qualify for rate statistics and leads the International League in batting average (.358) and is second in on-base percentage (.442).
3B Jorbit Vivas: 2-for-5, 2 2B (7)
CF Everson Pereira1-for-4, HR (12), RBI, R, HBP, K
Pereira has three doubles and two homers in his last five games. He ties Roc Riggio and Spencer Jones for the organizational lead in home runs. Jose Rojas, Rafael Flores, and Dillon Lewis have 11.
1B T.J. Rumfield2-for-5, RBI, K
Rumfield has three multi-hit efforts in his last six games.
RF Brennen Davis0-for-3, 2 BB, K
LF CJ Alexander2-for-5, R, K
C Alex Jackson0-for-4, 2 K
SS Braden Shewmake: 2-for-4, 2 2B (6), R, CS (1)
Shewmake has a 10-game hitting streak (16-for-37; 4 doubles).
2B Andrew Velazquez1-for-3, RBI, CS (2), SAC

RHP Allan Winans: (W, 7-0)  6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
0.90 ERA (50 IP, 39 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 1 HR, 13 BB, 59 K).  Winans continues to hum along.
RHP Clayton Beeter1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
1.35 ERA (13.1 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 HR, 10 BB, 22 K). Beeter has walked only two (ten strikeouts) in 5.1 June innings. He is likely ready to contribute, but where do they place him?
RHP Colten Brewer0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
RHP Eric Reyzelman (S, 1): 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 0 K
Reyzelman is a mess, but at least he (somewhat) cleaned it up this time. He owns a 4.44 ERA (26.1 IP, 14 H, 13 R, 13 ER, 4 HR, 29 BB, 27 K)

Somerset (29-34)

Their game against New Hampshire was postponed. They will attempt to play a pair tomorrow.

Hudson Valley (37-26) (Lost to Jersey Shore, 1-0)

CF Jackson Castillo1-for-4, K
.223/.321/.313 in 246 PA. He has struggled to find a groove.
RF Dillon Lewis0-for-4, 2 K
1B Coby Morales1-for-4

C Omar Martinez0-for-4, 2 K
2B Jose Colmenares1-for-3

DH Anthony Hall0-for-3, 2 K

RHP Josh Grosz: (L, 4-4) 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
Tough luck loss, which isn’t uncommon for Yankees’ pitchers nowadays.  Season: 3.28 ERA (60.1 IP, 41 H, 26 R, 22 ER, 3 HR, 22 BB, 68 K). Grosz has pitched seven innings in three of his last five starts (6+ innings in four of the five).
RHP Tony Rossi1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
For Hudson Valley: 14.2 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 7 BB, 17 K. Overall: 22.1 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 7 BB, 29 K. In case you are wondering, Rossi has inherited five runners, and none have scored. This is about as perfect a season as a reliever can have.

Tampa (35-28) (Defeated Bradenton, 4-1)

DH Edgleen Perez: 1-for-3, 2 R, BB, K
.208/.369/.234 in 244 PA.
CF Brian Sanchez1-for-4, HR (2), 2 RBI, R
Both of Sanchez’s homers have come in his last five games.  After a tough April (.236/.286/.389), Sanchez has picked up the pace in May (.349/.420/.535) and June (.286/.393/.449).  The 20-year-old (turns 21 on July 4th) isn’t small (6’3″), so he can still grow into some home run power. As is, he intrigues as a speedy center fielder.
SS Roderick Arias1-for-4, RBI, SB (17)
C Engelth Urena0-for-4, K
3B Juan Matheus1-for-3, BB, K
LF Tyler Wilson2-for-3, BB
.297/.383/.388 in 240 PA. Despite a little 0-for-8 slide heading into this game, Wilson is still hitting .452/.556/.500 this month.
1B Hans Montero0-for-3, R, SB (10), BB, K
RF Marshall Toole1-for-4, SB (18)
Toole is hanging onto his .300 campaign (.302/.406/.475 in 165 PA). He is 18-for-19 in the stolen base department.
2B Santiago Gomez0-for-3, K

RHP Andrew Landry: (W, 4-3)  6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K
51% 4-seamer, 21% slider, 14% curve, 14% change-up. He generated four whiffs on five swings with his changeup. Last two starts: 13 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 10 K.
RHP Gus Hughes1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, HR

SS Dexters Peralta0-for-4, CS (2), BB, 2 K
C Manuel Palencia1-for-4, R, BB, K
LF Gabriel Lara2-for-4, 3B (1), RBI, 2 R, SB (3), BB
.360/.418/.600 in 55 PA (4 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 12 R, 3-for-7 SB). He is 12-for-28 in June.
RF Luis Puello0-for-3, SF, 2 RBI, R, HBP, K
3B Kevin Verde2-for-5

RHP Jose M  Rodriguez: 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K
Rodriguez continues to shine (0.81 ERA; 22.1 IP, 12 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 0 HR, 12 BB, 25 K).  Four of his six starts have been scoreless efforts. Rodriguez is 21 years old, but has limited experience as he missed all of 2024 to injury.
LHP Franyer Herrera3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
1.15 ERA (15.2 IP, 14 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 6 BB, 20 K)
LHP Jose Ledesma (W, 1-0): 2.1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
LHP Pedro Rodriguez (S, 1): 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Rodriguez, activated off the 60-day injured list today, makes his first appearance since 2023. That season, while in the DSL, he posted a 1.93 ERA in 28 IP with a 36/10 K/BB.

DSL Yankees (4-7) (Split a pair of games with DSL Miami)

CF Francisco Vilorio0-for-3, BB, K
SS Carlos Bello1-for-3, RBI, R, BB, 2 K
The 17-year-old is off to a 4-for-27 (.148) start. He does have a homer and seven runs scored.
3B Richard Matic0-for-1, 2 R, 2 BB
.296/.394/.667 in 33 PA. He has four doubles and a pair of homers.
C Diego Flores2-for-2, 2B (2), 2 RBI, 2 CS (2), HBP
Deuces wild!

RHP Emanuel Vargas4 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

DSL Bombers (5-6) (Won two games over DSL Colorado)

Game 1 (Won, 7-3. I won’t get into much detail, as it was the completion of a game started a few weeks ago)

2B Juan Torres had to wait a while for it to become official, but he hit his first professional home run…CF Ruben Castillo scored two runs, stole a pair of bases, and drew a walk.

Game 2 (Won, 3-0)

CF Ruben Castillo0-for-3, SB (6), BB
The 17-year-old is off ot a 4-for-34 start, perhaps making the six stolen bases more impressive.

Injury Log

Scranton (34-31) (Defeated Syracuse, 5-1. The Railriders are playing great baseball lately, but they are 9.5 games behind first-place Lehigh Valley.)

2B Jorbit Vivas0-for-2, RBI, R, 2 BB
Sometimes, it is hard to report on kids after they make their big league debuts. You look at the numbers (.306/.429/.444) and remain impressed. However, you remember how much he struggled while he was up. If anything, it should be a reminder that numbers are a part of the story and all we have sometimes. But there is more to it than that.
LF Everson Pereira1-for-3, HR (11), 3 RBI, 2 R, BB
.259/.353/.494 in 187 PA. Last year, he hit .265/.346/.512 in 182 PA. He has three doubles and a homer in his last three games.

RHP Colten Brewer (W, 1-1): 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Harrison Cohen1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
We finally get some Savant data on Cohen. He featured three pitches (4-seamer, change, cutter), hitting 94.8 MPH with the 4-seamer. His changeup generated three whiffs on eight swings. His results have been strong in the minors, and he is a step away from helping in the big league bullpen. He is Rule 5 eligible this winter.
RHP Geoff Hartlieb (S, 1): 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Hartlieb dialed it up to 97.6.

Hudson Valley (36-23) (Shut down Greenville, 1-0. That’s back-to-back 1-0 wins. In case you are wondering, Greenville is midpack in team OPS and fourth (out of 12 teams) in runs.)

   RF Luis Durango0-for-1, K
C Omar Martinez0-for-3, 2 K
2B Jose Colmenares0-for-1, RBI, CS (3), 2 BB
Last night, the only run was scored on a Tomas Frick sacrifice fly. This evening, the only run was courtesy of a bases-loaded walk. Whatever it takes!
3B Josh Moylan0-for-2, BB, 2 K
SS Brenny Escanio0-for-2, SB (8), BB
DH Tomas Frick0-for-3, K

LHP Griffin Herring: (W, 1-0)  6.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K
Since promotion: 0.96 ERA (18.2 IP, 14 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 HR, 5 BB, 14 K). Overall: 11 starts, 5-1, 1.14 ERA (63.1 IP, 38 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 21 BB, 72 K). Herring is having one of the best starts in minor league baseball.

Tampa (33-27) (Lost to Clearwater, 14-1. The Tarpons committed four errors in this monstrosity of a game. I don’t even want to write about it)

SS Roderick Arias2-for-4
Back-to-back multi-hit efforts. Hey, it’s something. He’s hitting .171/.311/.260 in 177 PA.
LF Brian Sanchez0-for-4, RBI
C Edgleen Perez0-for-4
DH Engelth Urena2-for-4, K
.212/.349/.325 in 249 PA. He owns solid BB (14.9%) and K (18.1%) rates.
3B Juan Matheus0-for-4, K
RF Tyler Wilson0-for-3
2B Austin Green0-for-3
CF Marshall Toole2-for-3, 2B (8), R
On a bad day, Toole continues his recent good play (12-for-30 (.400) in June with 12 RBI and a 7-for-7 stolen base rate)
1B Hans Montero0-for-3

RHP J.T. Etheridge (L, 2-1): 5.1 IP, 5 H, 8 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 6 K

FCL (15-16) (Lost to the Tigers, 7-2)

C Manuel Palencia1-for-4, RBI, K
Palencia was 4-for-29 to start the season. He is 23-for-61 (.377) since.
SS Dexters Peralta1-for-4, R, K
DH Ediel Rivera1-for-4
LF Gabriel Lara1-for-4, 2B (4), SB (2), 3 K
Lara is 10-for-20 (3 doubles, 6 RBI, 4 R) in June.
2B Luis Escudero2-for-4, RBI, CS (3)
1B John Cristino1-for-2, R, BB, K

RHP Mariano Salomon (L, 3-1): 4.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 3 HR
2.45 ERA (22 IP, 11 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 4 HR, 6 BB, 26 K). He’s 22, so don’t get too crazy – but he has pitched well in rookie ball over the last three seasons (2.87 ERA; 142/25 K/BB over 113 innings)
RHP Justin Lange1 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
Holding out hope for Lange is foolhardy. But I’m here for it! This was his second rehab appearance.
RHP Chance Nolan: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
The converted QB hasn’t allowed an earned run in nine appearances (8.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 HR, 5 BB, 5 K)

DSL Yankees (3-6) (Lost to the DSL Phillies White, 10-1)

SS Mani Cedeno0-for-3, K
Cedeno, likely their most hyped DSL prospect, is off to a 4-for-25 start. I wouldn’t be concerned about that.
DH Francisco Vilorio0-for-3, K
3B Alfred Ciriaco1-for-3, RBI

LHP Luis Rodriguez3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Nice outing for the 20-year-old in his debut season (fourth game)

DSL Bombers (3-6) (Lost to the DSL Rockies, 15-10. This is beautiful – the Rockies scored 15 runs on six hits. 11 walks, a million (give or take a few) hit by pitches, a pair of errors)

CF Ruben Castillo1-for-5, R, 3 K
C Queni Pineda4-for-4, 2 2B (2), 2 RBI, 2 R, BB
After his .254/.434/.438 campaign, he is 10-for-27 this season. I think some may have expected to see him in the FCL to start the season. Whether he will get there before the FCL season ends, who knows?
DH Browm Martinez3-for-4, HR (2), 3 RBI, R, SB (7)
Martinez is off to quite a start: 8-for-20; 2 HR, 8 RBI, 9 R, 7-for-7 SB. Like Pineda, he is only 18. Also like Pineda, he had a solid debut campaign in 2024 (.278/.386/.313 with a 21-for-27 stolen base rate).
3B Leni Done0-for-3, 2 R, SB (2), BB
LF Richard Meran2-for-3, 2B (2), 2 RBI, R, SB (1), BB

RHP Carlos Hampshire3.1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K

Yankees MILB 6/12: Cam Schlittler Ks 7

Notes:

RHP Anthony DeSclafani has opted out of his contract, instantly signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks. It isn’t uncommon for a veteran on a minor league deal to do this. The Yankees could have added him to the 26-man roster, but there wasn’t a need.

RHP McKinley Moore, as big of a project as you will find, was released. The 6’6″ Moore spent time on Scranton’s active roster, injured list, and development list. When he pitched, the results weren’t great (6.23 ERA in 8.2 IP with a 6/9 K/BB). The walks have always kept him down, preventing him from getting back to MLB (he briefly pitched for the Phillies in 2023).

RHP Harrison Cohen has earned a promotion to Scranton. Cohen dominated for Somerset, and it will be fun to get some Savant pitch breakdowns.

RHP (catch a theme?) Bailey Dees‘ stay in Hudson Valley was short. He is back with Somerset after making one start.

By the way, for those who wonder how long I have written these reports: I used to write them on the public Yankees newsgroup (and later a private one). The earliest report I found was from 2002, though it wasn’t in this form.  That’s 23 years ago, which ages and surprises me.

Injury Log

Scranton (32-31) (Defeated Syracuse, 6-1)

C Jesus Rodriguez1-for-4, RBI, R, K
At this level: .347/.438/.438 in 214 PA. He has an 11-game on-base streak.
2B Jorbit Vivas1-for-2, RBI, R, 2 BB
DH Everson Pereira2-for-4, 2 2B (4), 2 RBI, R
A much-needed effort, as he is only 7-for-37 in June.
1B T.J. Rumfield0-for-4, K
LF Brennen Davis1-for-3, RBI, BB, K
  PR-CF Andrew Velazquez0-for-0, SB (17)
3B CJ Alexander0-for-3, BB, K
Alexander’s organizational debut.
RF Bryan De La Cruz1-for-4, R, 2 SB (3), K
SS Braden Shewmake1-for-4, 2B (4), R
Shewmake, who has survived on the 40-man roster all year, owns an 8-game hitting streak.
CF-LF Ismael Munguia1-for-4, RBI, R

RHP Cam Schlittler: (W, 1-1)  5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, HR
First two Scranton starts: 10.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 HR, 6 BB, 15 K. The only runs allowed are solo home runs. The walks are elevated, but that doesn’t scare me. His fastball reached 97.9 MPH, and he generated 12 whiffs on 36 swings. This kid’s talent is real.
RHP Leonardo Pestana1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Clayton Beeter1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Beeter topped out at 97.3 MPH, and he generated four whiffs on six swings against his slider. June: 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K
RHP Colten Brewer1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Somerset (27-33) (Lost to Portland, 6-1)

3B George Lombard Jr.0-for-3, SB (11), BB, K
At this level: .219/.355/.298 (2 doubles, 2 triples, 1 HR, 9 RBI, 23 R, 11-for-13 SB, 17% BB, 24.1% K). Between Somerset and Hudson Valley, he has 45 runs in 56 games.
DH Giancarlo Stanton0-for-4, 2 K
Stanton is 3-for-11 with a walk and three strikeouts. We’ll see how much longer they keep him down here.
CF Spencer Jones1-for-4, R, K
C Rafael Flores: 3-for-4, 2B (15), RBI, K
Flores has eight 3-hit games this season (16 multi-hit games). He is 12-for-39 (.308) with a pair of doubles and a homer in June.
2B Roc Riggio0-for-3, BB, K
You are supposed to hit a home run every night, Roc!
LF Garrett Martin0-for-4, K
1B Tyler Hardman0-for-4
RF Cam Eden0-for-2, 2 BB, K
SS Max Burt0-for-2, BB

RHP Carlos Lagrange: (L, 1-1)  4 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 2 K
Lagrange walked only one in his Double-A debut, but didn’t have it tonight. Am I concerned? No. Did I wonder about how advanced hitters would approach him? Yes. You always worry about the control with a kid of his size. Additionally, Portland ran crazy on him. They stole 11 bases in 11 attempts over four innings. Yes, some of that may be on Flores as well (he entered tonight with a 16% CS rate)
RHP Bailey Dees: 4 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
At this level: 4.79 ERA (47 IP, 44 H, 26 R, 25 ER, 6 HR, 25 BB, 59 K). He struck out nine in seven innings in his Hudson Valley start.
RHP Kelly Austin1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K

Hudson Valley (35-23) (Lost to Greenville, 3-2)

CF Dillon Lewis1-for-4, BB, K
LF Jackson Castillo: 2-for-5, R, SB (11)
Castillo has three multi-hit games this month (nine games played). He is 6-for-6 stealing bases.
RF Coby Morales: 2-for-4, 2B (11), R
Morales is 13-for-42 (4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR) in June.
3B Parks Harber1-for-3, SF, 2 RBI, 2 K
Harber has a 9-game hitting streak (12-for-32). Harber has 40 RBI in 52 games.
DH Omar Martinez1-for-4, K
SS Alexander Vargas0-for-4
1B Josh Moylan1-for-3, SB (4), BB
   PR Luis Durango0-for-0
2B Brenny Escanio0-for-3, SAC, 2 K
C Tomas Frick1-for-3, 2B (6), BB, K

RHP Hayden Merda1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
3.33 ERA (27 IP, 20 H, 11 R, 10 ER, 2 HR, 12 BB, 39 K). This was Merda’s first start in 2025 (20 starts in 2023 before missing 2024). If they aren’t starting to stretch him out, it was likely an emergency start.
LHP Geoffrey Gilbert2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
3.94 ERA (16 IP, 15 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 1 HR, 6 BB, 25 K).
RHP Tyrone Yulie: (L, 1-2)  1 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
RHP Matt Keating2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
RHP Bryce Warrecker1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
1.01 ERA (26.2 IP, 12 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 6 BB, 32 K)

Tampa (32-25)

Their doubleheader against Clearwater was postponed. They will try to play two tomorrow. No word on when they will try to make up the second game (it isn’t marked as cancelled, so I assume they will try)

FCL (15-14) (Knocked off the Blue Jays, 7-1)

CF Duke Ellis0-for-3, RBI, R, SB (3), BB, 2 K
DH Manuel Palencia1-for-3, 2 R, BB
Palencia is 12-for-25 in June. Every game he played last year (29) was in Low-A, so keep that in mind. He showed off contact skills (.281/.314/.344; 11.8% K) in that short stint.
C Ediel Rivera1-for-3, 2B (5), 3 RBI, R, 2 K
.265/.366/.382 in 82 PA (5 doubles, 1 HR, 10 RBI, 13 R, 5-for-7 SB, 8.5% BB, 29.3% K). The 19-year-old is having a solid professional debut, even with the elevated strikeouts.
RF Wilson Rodriguez2-for-3, R, 2 SB (5), BB
.364/.429/.477 in 50 PA. He has six multi-hit efforts. While this is the 20-year-old’s third season here, he played in only 23 games in the first two years.
3B Santiago Gomez1-for-3, 2 RBI, BB, K
LF Gabriel Lara2-for-3, RBI, BB
Lara is 15-for-38 (.395/.452/.632; 3 doubles, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 10 R, 4 BB, 3 K)

RHP Omar Gonzalez (W, 1-2): 5 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K
5.40 ERA (23.1 IP, 12 H, 14 R, 14 ER, 2 HR, 16 BB, 28 K). This is a new personal best for strikeouts in a game.
RHP Yarison Ruiz1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K
The 25-year-old is on a rehab stint. He has yet to pitch above this level but was assigned to Tampa before the season. He has tossed only 38 innings in his career, 30 of which came in 2021.
LHP Franyer Herrera2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
12.2 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 6 BB, 18 K
RHP Sunayro Martina1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

RHP Emanuel Vargas (W, 1-0): 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
The 19-year-old earns his first professional win in his 2025 debut (he tossed 18 innings last year)

DSL Bombers (3-4) (Squeaked past the DSL Tigers 2, 7-6. They were 10-for-11 stealing bases. I love the rookie leagues)

DH Stiven Marinez: 0-for-2, R, 2 SB (4), 2 BB
.250/.429/.250 with a pair of RBI and six runs scored.
C Queni Pineda0-for-2, R, 3 SB (4), 2 BB, K

DH Alex Jackson0-for-4, RBI, 2 K
.311/.436/.600 in 55 PA (3 HR, 13 RBI). It is a good idea to keep an eye on the #3 catcher on the depth chart.
SS Braden Shewmake0-for-3, 2 K
2B Jake Gatewood1-for-3, 2B (1), R

RHP Zach McAllister3 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 3 K
The tough start to his 2025 campaign continues.
RHP Eric Reyzelman1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 1 K
2.45 ERA (14.2 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 12 BB, 17 K). Solid ERA, but the walks are worrisome. I don’t care if a dominant reliever walks some hitters (Dellin Betances, for example). But you better be dominant if you are going to carry a high BB rate.
RHP Clayton Beeter1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
23 pitches/13 strikes. Beeter has options, so the Yankees can option him to this level when his rehab is complete (if they don’t have a slot for him in MLB).
RHP Geoff Hartlieb1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
3.21 ERA (14 IP, 15 H, 8 R, 5 ER, 0 HR, 4 BB, 14 K)
RHP Wilking Rodriguez (W, 1-0): 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

DH Everson Pereira1-for-2, HR (8), RBI, 3 R, 2 BB, K
.301/.385/.602 in 96 PA. Pereira is on a 7-game hitting streak (10-for-23 with five home runs). When Pereira hits a hot streak, they tend to be crazy.
2B DJ LeMahieu2-for-4, K
The rumors are out there that LeMahieu will be back in time for the Mariners’ series. As the likely everyday Yankees’ 2B, this scares me considerably. But what can you do?
1B T.J. Rumfield2-for-3, HR (5), SF, 2 RBI, R, SB (2)
.295/.396/.509 in 134 PA (9 doubles, 5 HR, 24 RBI, 25 R, 11.9% BB, 19.4% K). The Yankees haven’t used him and he slipped through the Rule 5. That is telling, but I bet he gets an opportunity somewhere. After all, eventually Andres Chaparro and Eric Wagaman received opportunities.
C Jesus Rodriguez2-for-4, RBI
Rodriguez is hitting .357/.472/.443 in 89 PA since his promotion. Can a player outplay their scouting report? The answer is yes. I just can’t ignore someone who continues to hit like Rodriguez does.
LF Jose Rojas1-for-4, K
RF Bryan De La Cruz0-for-4
3B Jake Gatewood1-for-3, K
CF Ismael Munguia: 1-for-3, K
SS Andrew Velazquez0-for-3, 2 K

RHP Erick Leal (L, 1-4):  5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 2 HR
RHP Kervin Castro1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
0.98 ERA (18.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 8 BB, 22 K). He is pitching well, though he isn’t overpowering (averaged 92.3 MPH with his 4-seamer today).
RHP Colten Brewer1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

Somerset (14-18) (Shut down Akron, 5-0)

SS George Lombard Jr.1-for-3, RBI, SB (2), BB
4-for-18 since promotion (2 RBI, 3 R, 2-for-2 SB, 3 BB, 3 K). He still needs to fill the extra-base hit column, but he is not showing signs of being overwhelmed here. His overall triple slash sits at .310/.470/.440 in 132 PA with more walks (26) than strikeouts (25).
DH Rafael Flores1-for-4, RBI
CF Garrett Martin:  1-for-4, R, 2 K
1B Dylan Jasso: 2-for-4, RBI, R, 2 K
.270/.328/.470 in 125 PA. He has three multi-hit efforts in his last six games.
CF Grant Richardson1-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, R, K
Richardson is bouncing back and forth between Somerset and Scranton. He has three HR between the two levels.
3B Alexander Vargas0-for-3, BB
RF Jared Wegner0-for-4, R, K
LF Tyler Hardman1-for-5, 2 K
2B Max Burt1-for-4, R, K
C Antonio Gomez1-for-3, SAC, SB (1), K

RHP Trent Sellers (W, 1-1): 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K
3.21 ERA (28 IP, 15 H, 10 R, 10 ER, 2 HR, 12 BB, 37 K). He isn’t talked about often, but is it time to count him amongst the Yankees’ pitching depth? The 25-year-old has pitched well since being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2023.
RHP Scott Effross1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Like Beeter, Effross has minor league options.
RHP Mason Vinyard1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
After initially struggling here, Vinyard has back-to-back scoreless appearances. It’s a start.
RHP Danny Watson1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Hudson Valley (22-9) (Defeated Wilmington, 5-2, in ten innings)

RF Brendan Jones: 1-for-4, R, BB, K
Jones has a 5-game hitting streak (9-for-24)
2B Roc Riggio1-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, 2 R, BB
1B Parks Harber2-for-4, 2B (3), 3 RBI, BB
The raking continues for Harber, who is 15-for-44 (.341/.396/.477) since his promotion and .319/.412/.522 in 131 PA overall. He has three consecutive 2-hit efforts (four in his last five games)
LF Coby Morales3-for-5, 2B (4), RBI, CS (2), K
.242/.342/.421 in 111 PA.
CF Jackson Castillo0-for-5
DH Omar Martinez0-for-3, CS (2), 2 BB, K
The 9-game hitting streak is over, but he draws a pair of walks to increase the on-base streak to ten.
3B Jose Colmenares1-for-4, SB (2)
SS Brenny Escanio1-for-3, 3B (1), BB
C Tomas Frick0-for-3, 2 R, HBP, K

RHP Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz4 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
1.97 ERA (32 IP, 15 H, 9 R, 7 ER, 0 HR, 12 BB, 41 K). He needed 89 pitches to get 12 outs today, but damage was limited.
RHP Tyrone Yulie1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Sebastian Keane0.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K
RHP Bryce Warrecker2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
0.66 ERA (13.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 3 BB, 20 K). The 6’8″ Warrecker is a beast out of the bullpen. Will they ask him to start again, or let him stay in this role?
RHP Matt Keating (W, 1-0): 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
2.79 ERA (9.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 7 BB, 7 K)

Tampa (14-18) (Defeated Daytona, 10-7, in 10 innings)

DH Edgleen Perez1-for-4, 2B (3), R, 2 BB
Perez is 9-for-35 (.257) with a pair of doubles, five runs, and six walks in May.
CF Brian Sanchez: 3-for-5, 2B (10), 4 RBI, 2 SB (8), BB
Sanchez hit a big 3-run double in the 10th. His ten doubles are tops in the Florida State League, and he has four straight multi-hit games (9-for-18 – 1 double, 2 triples, 10 RBI, 4 R, 3 BB, 1 K, 3 SB). Sanchez has been a fun surprise since the Yankees acquired him.
C Engelth Urena0-for-5, 2 K
SS Juan Matheus0-for-5, 2 K
LF Tyler Wilson0-for-4, SB (9), BB, K
1B Josue Gonzalez2-for-4, 3B (1), R, BB
RF Marshall Toole0-for-4, RBI, R, BB, K
2B Hans Montero2-for-3, 2B (2), 3 R, SB (5), 2 BB
3B Owen Cobb2-for-4, 2B (5), HR (2), SF, 4 RBI, 2 R, K
Cobb maintains his .500 pace (11-for-22, 5 doubles, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 13 R, 5-for-6 SB, 5 BB, 4 K). That is an insane start to anyone’s season.

RHP Greysen Carter2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 R, 4 BB, 2 K
The only way he will learn is by throwing him out there.
RHP Cole Zaffiro2.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, HR
RHP Sean Hermann2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
2.25 ERA (16 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 0 HR, 16 BB, 17 K)
RHP Jackson Fristoe: (W, 2-1)  3.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
6.38 ERA (18.1 IP, 24 H, 17 R, 13 ER, 4 HR, 10 BB, 15 K)

FCL (4-2) (Defeated the Blue Jays, 4-3, walk-off style. What kind of walk-off?  How about a walk-off steal of home? Oh, how I love the rookie leagues!)

CF Brando Mayea2-for-2, R, SB (3), BB
Mayea is 7-for-22 (.318) and has hit safely in five straight games. Encouraging.
LF Isael Arias2-for-4, 2B (3), 2 R, SB (3), K
Arias stole home to win the game. It was a straight steal.
RF Brennen Davis2-for-3, HR (1), 2 RBI, R, BB
The rehabbing Davis hits his first HR as a member of the Yankees’ organization.
1B John Cristino1-for-2, BB, K
The 25-year-old out of Towson makes his professional debut. The Yankees signed him in March. He is a local kid out of Voorhees, NJ.

RHP Jose M. Rodriguez: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
The 21-year-old pitched in six games for the DSL in 2024, and it wasn’t pretty. It’s a new year!
RHP Josh Tiedemann1.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
The 13th round pick in 2023 (High School) in 20 years old. He has only 5.2 innings of professional experience.
RHP Alexis Paulino2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K
