My thoughts on Core Jackson.

Nothing to report. Maybe they move someone from Hudson Valley to Somerset for the final week of the Double-A season, but, for the most part, I wouldn’t expect newsworthy items over the final few weeks.

Injury Log

Scranton (78-52; 40-18 in second half) (Outlasted Worcester, 8-7. The Railriders were down, 5-0, entering the top of the 6th. A 7-run 7th inning was the key to the comeback.)

Syracuse lost, so Scranton owns a 4-game lead over the Mets for the second-half crown. Toledo also lost, so they are five games out. The season ends on September 21.

LF Austin Slater1-for-3, R, BB, 2 K
Slater still has yet to play a full game in the field. For now, J.C. Escarra is with the big club.
   PH-LF Ismael Munguia1-for-1, 2B (11)
2B Jorbit Vivas2-for-5, 2B (15), 3 RBI, R, K
Vivas has five 3-RBI efforts this season.
CF Spencer Jones1-for-5, 2B (10), 2 RBI, 4 K
A big 2-run double in the middle of his four-strikeout night.
DH Brennen Davis1-for-4, RBI, R, HBP, 2 K
   PR-DH Duke Ellis0-for-0
1B T.J. Rumfield1-for-5, K
RF Bryan De La Cruz1-for-4, R, K

RHP Jake Bird1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
RHP Wilking Rodriguez: (W, 2-1) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
3.80 ERA (21.1 IP, 16 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 3 HR, 20 BB, 31 K)
RHP Harrison Cohen1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
At this level: 1.88 ERA (24 IP, 12 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 HR, 13 BB, 24 K)
RHP Kervin Castro: (S, 4) 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

Somerset (65-62; 30-28 in second half) (Shut down New Hampshire, 1-0)

Hartford (0.5 games back) and Portland (1.5 games back) also won.

Somerset’s season ends on September 14th.

CF Brendan Jones0-for-2, R, 2 BB, K
Jones has a 14.9% walk rate since his promotion.
SS George Lombard Jr.2-for-4, 2B (19), RBI, SB (20), K
With two outs in the bottom of the 8th, Jones drew a walk, followed by a Lombard Jr. double to score the game’s only run.
LF Jace Avina0-for-4, 2 K
DH Dylan Jasso0-for-3
1B Tyler Hardman0-for-3
RF Jackson Castillo1-for-3
Castillo has a big extra-inning home run on his Double-A resume, but it has otherwise been a struggle (7-for-49; 1 double, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 3 R, 4 BB, 14 K)
3B Jake Gatewood0-for-3, K
C Manuel Palencia0-for-3, K
2B Duncan Pastore1-for-3

RHP Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz: 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K
For Somerset: 2.81 ERA (51.1 IP, 38 H, 19 R, 16 ER, 2 HR, 16 BB, 59 K). Overall, the 22-year-old owns a 2.47 ERA in 135 innings (90 H, 46 R, 37 ER, 3 HR, 53 BB, 158 K).  Rodriguez-Cruz slowed down in his previous three starts (11 runs in 13.1 innings, though the strikeout rate was still strong), so it is nice to see him bounce back tonight.
RHP Baron Stuart (W, 1-2): 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Carson Coleman (S, 2): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Not the most important number ever, but Coleman is 26-for-30 (86.7%) converting saves in his minor league career.

Hudson Valley (76-48; 38-22 second half) (Shut down Greensboro, 4-0)

I missed a half-game somewhere. Instead of pulling within two games of Greensboro’s lead, Hudson Valley is now 2.5 games out with five games to go. Does it matter?  No. They will still need to go 4-1 the rest of the week to take the second-half championship.

3B Juan Matheus: 1-for-4, RBI, CS (2), BB, K
At this level: .239/.356/.352 in 104 PA (14.4% BB; 19.2% K).
CF Dillon Lewis0-for-4
2B Core Jackson0-for-3, BB, K
SS Kaeden Kent1-for-4, R
C Engelth Urena: 2-for-4, 2B (3), RBI, R
As noted previously, Urena has been struggling since his promotion. This is his first multi-hit game as a member of the Renegades. Let’s see if he can finish off the season with a little hot streak.
1B Josh Moylan0-for-2, R, 2 BB, K
RF Camden Troyer0-for-3, R, BB, K
DH Connor McGinnis1-for-3, RBI, BB, 2 K
8-for-44 (.182) with six walks and 14 strikeouts.
LF Luis Durango1-for-2, SAC, BB

RHP Brandon Decker: (W, 2-1)  5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K
4.39 ERA (26.2 IP, 22 H, 14 R, 13 ER, 1 HR, 12 BB, 34 K). A clutch performance by the 23-year-old.
RHP Brady Kirtner2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Matt Keating1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
2.68 ERA (47 IP, 34 H, 17 R, 14 ER, 1 HR, 25 BB, 56 K)
RHP Tony Rossi1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
For Hudson Valley: 2.45 ERA (36.2 IP, 15 H, 10 R, 10 ER, 0 HR, 24 BB, 51 K).

Tampa (60-62; 24-33 in the second half) (Lost to Clearwater, 6-5, in ten innings)

This officially eliminates them from the second-half title chase. The season ends on Sunday.

SS Dax Kilby: 2-for-4, 3B (2), RBI, 2 R, 2 SB (12), 2 BB
Kilby has caught on quickly to Low-A. The 18-year-old is hitting .333 (18-for-54) with a pair of doubles and triples to go along with his 12-for-13 stolen base rate. Additionally, he has more walks (10) than strikeouts (6) and has multiple hits in seven of his last nine games. Will he start 2026 in High-A? I doubt it, but a quick promotion is possible.
3B Roderick Arias0-for-5, RBI, BB, K
2025 will likely be remembered as a lost season for Arias. It may also end his prospect status.
2B Enmanuel Tejeda1-for-4, RBI, R, BB
CF Marshall Toole1-for-5, RBI, SB (43), K
I hope he can maintain his .300 average in the final week. He has some cushion (.307). He is 43-for-49 stealing bases.
LF Eric Genther1-for-2, 2B (4), 2 BB
DH Richie Bonomolo Jr.: 1-for-3, 2B (4), RBI, SB (5), 2 BB, K
Bonomolo tied the game in the top of the 9th with a walk.
RF Willy Montero0-for-4, BB, 2 K
1B Hans Montero0-for-5, 3 K
C Josue Gonzalez: 1-for-3, R, SB (13)
   PH Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek0-for-1
   C Ediel Rivera0-for-0, HBP

RHP Edinzo Marquez4 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 0 K
RHP Josh Tiedemann2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 0 K
RHP Cole Zaffiro0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Jordarlin Mendoza1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Mendoza has some life on his fastball, reaching 97.2 MPH (averaged 95.6). He also flashed an impressive sinker that reached 96 MPH.
RHP Chris Veach: (L, 2-4)  1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

Austin Slater (link)

The DSL seasons ended today. Both teams missed the DSL Cup Tournament, with the Bombers finishing 1.5 games behind the DSL Astros Blue. Yes, you can have an uneven number of games in the minors.

RHP Jonathan Loaisiga‘s rehab is stalled due to another injury. If you are as shocked as I am, you aren’t shocked at all. $5 million isn’t much in today’s game, but the Yankees wasted money here.

RHP Fernando Cruz will continue his rehab assignment in Somerset. This is likely because Scranton is in Buffalo this week (and was rained out today), and not due to performance. Teams don’t “demote” rehabbing MLB players.

Injury Log

Scranton (70-47; 32-13 in second half)

Their game against Buffalo was postponed due to rain. They will try to play a doubleheader on Thursday.

The Railriders enter the week with a 1-game lead over Syracuse for the second-half title.

Somerset (61-54; 26-20 in second half) (Lost to Hartford, 5-0. This is a big 6-game series as Hartford is Somerset’s closest competition (3.5 games back) for the second-half title. “Title” isn’t the appropriate word, as Binghamton will likely have the best second-half record. However, they already clinched the playoffs in the first half, so it doesn’t matter.)

Old friend Roc Riggio is on the Hartford roster. He went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, run scored, and a stolen base. He is 12-for-53 (.226/.283/.358) thus far.)

CF Brendan Jones1-for-4, K
Jones has a bare minimum hitting streak going (five straight 1-hit efforts).
SS George Lombard Jr.0-for-4, 2 K
I have been asked if I have any concerns over his Somerset numbers (.206/.322/.339).  What if he never breaks through at Double-A?  Anything is possible in the world of baseball prospects. Nothing should surprise you. But there is no reason to be concerned. He’s young and has shown enough here to tell you he isn’t “overwhelmed.”  What happens in 2026 is up to him.
3B Dylan Jasso0-for-3, HBP, K
1B Coby Morales: 1-for-3, BB, K
RF Garrett Martin0-for-4, K
LF Jackson Castillo0-for-3, 2 K
2B Jake Gatewood1-for-3, K
DH Cole Gabrielson1-for-3, 2B (9), 2 K
C Tomas Frick0-for-3, K

RHP Carlos Lagrange (L, 5-4): 3.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
At this level: 3.84 ERA (58.2 IP, 38 H, 28 R, 25 ER, 3 HR, 40 BB, 78 K). He’s had his share of ups and downs, especially in the control development, since his promotion.
RHP Mason Vinyard0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Fernando Cruz1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Tonight’s rehab appearance goes much better than the previous two.
LHP Ryan Anderson: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Michael Arias1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Danny Watson1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
5.67 ERA (46 IP, 55 H, 30 R, 29 ER, 6 HR, 8 BB, 48 K).  Given his ERA was still over 10.00 on May 18th (and wasn’t below 9.00 until June 13th), he’s done a nice job of turning his season around.

Hudson Valley (69-42; 31-16 second half) (Defeated Jersey Shore, 5-2. Jose Colmenares, who the Yankees released recently, is now playing for Jersey Shore (Phillies’ affiliate). I always like to see prospects I follow finding jobs when the Yankees no longer have room.)

CF Dillon Lewis0-for-4, BB, K
2B Core Jackson1-for-4, RBI, R, BB, 2 K
Jackson is 7-for-36 with three doubles and a triple.
3B Juan Matheus1-for-5, R
SS Kaeden Kent1-for-4, RBI
C Engelth Urena1-for-4, 2B (1), R, K
Urena’s first extra-base hit since his promotion (4-for-34).
1B Josh Moylan1-for-3, HR (7), RBI, R, HBP
LF Tyler Wilson0-for-4, K
DH Camden Troyer: 2-for-3, RBI, R, BB
Troyer’s first professional multi-hit effort.
RF Luis Durango0-for-3, K
  RF Robbie Burnett0-for-1, K

RHP Brandon Decker: (W, 1-1)  5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 10 K (personal best)
Last two starts: 11 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 4 BB, 17 K.
RHP Chris Kean2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Tony Rossi: (S, 8) 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
At this level: 2.25 ERA (32 IP, 13 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 22 BB, 42 K)

Tampa (53-59; 17-30 in the second half)

Their game against Fort Myers was postponed due to rain. They will try to play a doubleheader tomorrow.

FCL (28-30)

Their season is over.

DSL Yankees (24-32) (Defeated the DSL Giants Orange, 3-2)

SS Mani Cedeno, their 16-year-old bonus baby ($2.5M), didn’t play the last few games. He finishes his debut season at .183/.371/.305 (88 wRC+) over 213 PA (5 doubles, 3 triples, 3 HR, 19 RBI, 41 R, 21-for-23 SB, 20.2% BB, 35.7% K).

CF Isaias Castillo1-for-3, 2B (5), RBI
Signed for $750,000, Castillo’s first season ends with a .247/.362/.382 triple slash over 105 plate appearances. He missed the entire month of July.
SS Carlos Bello0-for-2, BB, K
.217/.359/.354 in 198 PA (8 doubles, 1 triple, 4 HR, 31 RBI, 34 R, 14-for-17 SB, 14.1% BB, 24.7% K). The 17-year-old started hot, and was hitting .305/.468/.508 after a 4-hit effort on July 1st. It was tough going from there.
DH Justin Capellan0-for-1, HBP, BB
The 19-year-old ends his campaign at .255/.382/.442 in 186 PA. He started 31 games at catcher at 14 at designated hitter.
LF Wilberson De Pena0-for-2, CS (4), BB, K
De Pena went 4-for-28 after being acquired for Oswald Peraza.
3B Adrian Feliz0-for-1, R, BB
2B Eliezer Adames2-for-2, 3B (1), RBI, 2 R
The $250,000 signee didn’t play much in his debut campaign, going 5-for-43 with a triple.  There aren’t any significant gaps in his playing time to suggest an injury, so it was seemingly a strategic move.

RHP Enixon Sanchez3 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
The 18-year-old had some buzz last season, but struggled more in 2025 (ERA spiked from 2.79 in 29 innings to 5.04 in 44.2 innings).
LHP Luis Rodriguez (W, 3-2): 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
4.99 ERA (39.2 IP, 38 H, 24 R, 22 ER, 2 HR, 15 BB, 41 K). He is 20 years old, but this was his debut season.
RHP Rafael Arias (S, 3): 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
The 21-year-old pitched to a 4.05 ERA in 40 innings (42 H, 24 R, 18 ER, 0 HR, 16 BB, 53 K)

DSL Bombers (31-25) (Defeated the DSL Mets Blue, 7-2)

Like Cedeno, bonus baby SS Stiven Marinez ($1.65M) didn’t play the last few games. He finishes his debut campaign at .275/.424/.375 (115 wRC+) over 205 PA (7 doubles, 3 triples, 1 HR, 17 RBI, 37 R, 22-for-28 SB, 20.0% BB, 22.4% K).

CF Ruben Castillo0-for-3, HBP, K
Castillo, a $750,000 signee, finishes his debut campaign at .220/.338/.368 in 225 PA (9 doubles, 5 triples, 3 HR, 19 RBI, 33 R, 20-for-32 SB, 11.1% BB, 24.4% K)
LF Jose Castro0-for-2, R, 2 SB (20), 2 BB, K
SS Christofer Reyes2-for-3, 3B (1), 2 RBI, BB
After hitting .250/.346/.314 as a 16-year-old last season, he hit .245/.339/.329 this season. He signed for $100,000.
3B-2B Juan Torres0-for-4
This 0-for-4 doesn’t dampen an awesome debut campaign (.359/.406/.516; 4 HR, 43 RBI). He signed for only $50,000.
RF David Carrera0-for-2, 2 R, SB (14), BB, 2 K
C Carlos Rondon2-for-2, HR (3), 2 RBI, 2 R, BB
The 19-year-old played in only 27 games, hitting .281/.453/.484 with three homers and 20 RBI.

LHP Junior Tavera: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Tavara, 18, didn’t last long today. We’ll never know why.
RHP Andre Avila (W, 1-1): 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
In his debut campaign, the 20-year-old pitched to a 4.50 ERA in 20 innings with a 22/15 K/BB.
RHP Lenin Caceres: 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
The 23-year-old’s professional debut, at least in affiliated ball. Not even Baseball Reference has statistics for the Venezuelan and the only transaction I can find is that he “elected” free agency earlier this season.
RHP Diego Carrillo2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K
The 18-year-old appeared in 18 games during his debut season, putting up a 4.08 ERA in 35.1 IP with a 33/18 K/BB.
LHP Ronald Tejada1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Tejada had a solid season as a 17-year-old, but his 18-year-old campaign wasn’t nearly as solid. Nice to see him end on a good note.

The Yankees were lacking catching depth after the trade deadline. They added to it today by signing Rob Brantly to a minor league contract. The 36-year-old has 140 games of MLB experience (including seven with the Yankees), hitting .226/.286/.323 with seven home runs and 38 RBI. He is the pure definition of a grinder, having played for 12 different organizations, including six at the Major League level.

Brantly will join youngster Omar Martinez in Scranton. Edinson Duran was moved back to the Development List.

Injury Log

Since promotion: 5-for-16 with a double, a triple, and five RBI. Even with the presence of Brantly, I suspect Martinez will get most of the playing time.

Somerset (58-51; 23-18 in second half) (Lost to Portland, 6-3)

CF Brendan Jones0-for-3, SB (12), BB, 2 K
Pipeline has Jones ranked 16th in their organizational Top 30, given praise for his discipline, speed, and ability to play all three outfield positions. Additionally, they mentioned his sneaky pull pop. If that sounds a bit Brett Gardner-ish, I can see it. But don’t underestimate how high the Brett Gardner bar is.
SS George Lombard Jr.0-for-2, HBP, BB, 2 K
Lombard Jr. leads the organization with 13 HBP (103 games) this season.
3B Dylan Jasso0-for-4, 2 K
LF Jace Avina1-for-4, 2 K
1B Tyler Hardman1-for-3, 3B (3), 2 R, BB, K
RF Garrett Martin1-for-4, HR (11), 2 RBI, R, 2 K
Over the last two seasons, Martin has 28 doubles, 23 home runs, and 33 stolen bases in 166 games between here and Hudson Valley. He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and is 25 years old.
DH Coby Morales1-for-3, BB

2B Duncan Pastore0-for-4, K

RHP Ben Hess: (L, 0-2)  4.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
Hess’ second Double-A start (9 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 HR, 3 BB, 10 K). Overall, Hess owns a 104/36 K/BB over 75.2 innings.
RHP Luis Pacheco1.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
RHP Danny Watson: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
We’ll take the two shutout innings, but this ends his impressive walkless inning streak (28.2 innings). His ERA is now 5.65 (43 IP, 50 H, 28 R, 27 ER, 6 HR, 8 BB, 46 K).

Hudson Valley (65-41; 27-15 second half) (Lost to Aberdeen, 5-2)

SS Kaeden Kent0-for-4, K
Kent is 2-for-19 with a double to begin his career.
C Engelth Urena1-for-3, RBI, R, BB
Urena is 3-for-23 since his promotion. Was he ready for this level? Maybe not, but the Yankees are likely giving him a taste of where he will be next year.
3B Juan Matheus1-for-4, 2B (3), K
1B Josh Moylan1-for-3, RBI, SB (8), BB
2B Core Jackson0-for-4, K

RHP Brandon Decker6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K
Decker allowed seven runs in 5.2 innings in his High-A debut. He turned that around in his second start. The seven strikeouts are a new personal best.
RHP Tyrone Yulie0.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 0 K
RHP Tony Rossi: (L, 0-2) 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

C Edgleen Perez0-for-1, BB
The last time Perez will be featured in one of my daily reports (he’ll appear in future “Where are they now?” articles). In case you are wondering, he is 3-for-14 with three walks and no strikeouts since being traded to the Pirates.

Kilby reaches base for the first time in his professional career (0-for-9, 2 BB)
3B Roderick Arias: 3-for-4, 2B (16), 2 R, SB (28), K
Now that he is over .200 (.207/.323/.313 in 376 PA), hopefully he can build on it and finish the season strongly.
1B Kyle West1-for-3, RBI, R, SB (1), K
West is 4-for-24 with a double and a pair of walks to start his professional career.
2B Enmanuel Tejeda0-for-2, RBI, SB (3), 2 BB

LHP Henry Lalane3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

FCL (28-30)

Their season is over.

In case you are wondering, the DSL ends on August 19th. The Yankees have no shot at the playoffs. The Bombers still have a chance to make it into the 16-team field.

DSL Yankees (22-29) (Lost to the DSL Twins, 9-0. This game won’t show up on Yankees Classics)

CF Francisco Vilorio0-for-2, 2 BB, K
SS Mani Cedeno0-for-3, BB, K
LF Isaias Castillo1-for-4
2B Alfred Ciriaco1-for-2
RF Alfiery Matos1-for-3, SB (10), K

RHP Enixon Sanchez (L, 1-4) 3 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 3 K
The 18-year-old owns a 4.97 ERA in 41.2 IP (48 H, 31 R, 23 ER, 2 HR, 30 BB, 46 K)

DSL Bombers (27-24) (Defeated the DSL Phillies White, 7-1. The Bombers have little room to lose games if they want to grab one of those tournament slots)

SS Stiven Marinez was out of the lineup again, so it’s safe to say he is dealing with something. The season is nearly over, so we’ll see if he gets back into the lineup before they pack their bags.

LF Ruben Castillo: 0-for-4
2B Christofer Reyes
0-for-2, R, BB
RF Jose Castro1-for-3, R
3B Juan Torres2-for-3, 2B (9), RBI, R, CS (8)
Torres has been ridiculous from the start. This is his 12th multi-hit effort (43 games played), and he is hitting .345/.389/.493 with four home runs and 39 RBI in 157 plate appearances.
SS Leni Done0-for-2, R, BB
LF David Carrera0-for-2, R, BB, 2 K
DH Richard Meran0-for-1, RBI, R, 2 BB
1B Remy Veldhuisen1-for-1, 2 RBI, R, 2 BB
C Carlos Rondon: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, K

RHP Ranciel Abreu: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
The 18-year-old makes his professional debut.
LHP Junior Tavera (W, 2-1): 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 6 K
The 18-year-old has encountered the same issue many 18-year-olds encounter as they begin their careers: Walks. He has walked 48 batters in 52 career innings (59 strikeouts).

Yankees MILB 7/24: Spencer Jones Launches 3 Home Runs

Notes:

RHP Cade Smith is off the injured list as he pitched for Hudson Valley tonight. Smith was ranked 18th in the recent Pipeline update (again, it wasn’t a full update – but rather a reshuffle for the Trade Deadline). He was drafted in the 6th round in 2023 after spending 2022 and 2023 as the ace of the Mississippi State squad. He was a key cog out of their bullpen as a freshman during their 2021 College World Series championship run. Known for the spin on his breaking pitches, we will see if his ultimate destination is that of a starter or reliever. For now, you keep a talent like this in the rotation for as long as possible.

Injury Log

Scranton (56-39; 18-5 in second half) (Lost to Rochester, 10-8)

DH Jesus Rodriguez1-for-5
Rodriguez’s hitting streak reaches 12.  He is hitting .311/.408/.406 in 338 PA at this level. By the way, ever since they traded Alex Jackson and signed Jeimer Candelario, Rodriguez has stopped playing third base (no games since July 5th).
CF Spencer Jones3-for-5, 3 HR (13), 4 RBI, 3 R, K
All three home runs traveled over 400 feet, with two to left-center and one to center. He is hitting .400/.457/.950 (that’s his SLG – not his OPS!) in 94 PA since his promotion (5 doubles, 13 HR, 25 RBI, 27 R, 6-for-6 SB, 10.6% BB, 25.5% K). Overall, he is hitting .314/.411/.706 (my goodness) in 302 PA (13 doubles, 29 HR, 57 RBI, 69 R, 16-for-18 SB, 13.9% BB, 31.1% K). So, what does one make of this?  This is one of the most interesting dilemmas I have encountered in a while. In the spirit of full disclosure, he hit all three home runs off a 30-year-old who has yet to make it to MLB. However, you can’t dismiss his day based on only that fact. Last winter, I was for trading him. Now? Like most of you (probably), I would love to see how this plays out, even if there is still an element of high risk in his game. Tough, tough, tough (did I say TOUGH) call.  By the way, while I don’t know what the Yankees’ minor league record is for homers (believe it or not, Tony Lazzeri hit 60 home runs in 197 PCL games in 1925), I have found some for Jones to chase if he isn’t called up: Shane Spencer (32 in 1996; 30 in 1997);  Shelley Duncan (34 in 2005; 30 in 2009), Jorge Vazquez (32, 2011), and Dermis Garcia (31, 2021).
RF Everson Pereira1-for-3, 3 R, 2 BB, K
.257/.356/.522 in 295 PA (8 doubles, 1 triple, 19 HR, 52 RBI, 66 R, 8-for-9 SB, 11.9% BB, 29.8% K)
1B T.J. Rumfield1-for-4, 2B (25), BB
C Rafael Flores0-for-4, RBI, BB, 2 K
Since promotion: 4-for-20 (1 HR, 2 RBI, 3 R, 6 BB, 7 K)
3B Jeimer Candelario2-for-5, 2 RBI, K
2B Jose Rojas1-for-5, HR (18), RBI, R, K
SS Nick Lopez0-for-4, K
LF Duke Ellis3-for-4, 2B (4), R, SB (14), K

RHP Brendan Beck (L, 2-1): 4 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 4 HR
Beck, who has pitched well this season, had a tough time this morning. This spikes his Triple-A ERA to 5.93 (27.1 IP, 26 H, 18 R, 18 ER, 8 HR, 7 BB, 24 K). He allowed two home runs in 54.2 Double-A innings.
RHP Bailey Dees1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Zach Messinger3 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, HR
As a reliever: 2.96 ERA (27.1 IP, 22 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 16 BB, 29 K)

Somerset (50-43; 15-9 in second half) (Won a dramatic game over Erie, 4-3)

RF Brendan Jones: 2-for-5, HR (5), 3 RBI, R, SB (10), K
With one out in the top of the 9th, Jones launched a 3-run home run to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 lead. He is catching on to this level, including home runs in back-to-back games and four total in July. Additionally, he is 8-for-8 stealing bases this month and is 33-for-38 in 82 games between here and Hudson Valley.  He was ranked 29th on the Pipeline list, and they were complimentary towards his ability to play all three outfield positions and “sneaky” pull pop. Can he enter the picture as a #4 outfielder at some point in 2026? Certainly.
2B George Lombard Jr.1-for-4, BB, K
Lombard Jr. has a 7-game hitting streak. It’s not one of those “Wow, he’s insanely hot!” kind of streaks (6 one-hit games), but it is still an encouraging stretch.
DH Roc Riggio1-for-5, 2B (10), K
Riggio is up to 19 extra-base hits (10 doubles, 9 HR) in 35 games since his promotion.
3B Dylan Jasso2-for-5, R, K
Jasso, a 23-year-old who has spent his entire campaign in Somerset, has back-to-back multi-hit efforts (three in his last six games). He has hit safely in eight of his last nine games.
CF Jace Avina2-for-4, 2 K
So far, Avina has held his own since his promotion (8-for-31; 1 double, 2 HR, 8 BB, 9 K).
C Omar Martinez0-for-3, BB
1B Tyler Hardman1-for-4, R
LF Cole Gabrielson1-for-2, 2B (7), RBI, R, SB (13), CI, BB, K
SS Max Burt0-for-3, SAC

RHP Carlos Lagrange5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 6 K
Ranked #2 on Pipeline (and in the Top 100 overall), Lagrange owns a 3.54 ERA since his promotion (40.2 IP, 24 H, 16 R, 16 ER, 3 HR, 26 BB, 55 K). As I have said previously, the walks have spiked since his promotion (I can even claim I predicted this possibility – hey, give me a win in a sea of losses.).  Overall, he owns a 119/38 K/BB over 82.1 innings and will be one of the most talked about prospects by other organizations at the deadline. Arms like his will cause drooling.
RHP Luis Pacheco: 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
RHP Michael Arias0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
RHP Kelly Austin: (W, 3-1)  1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Hayden Merda (S, 1): 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
It’s been a tough road for the 6’6″ Merda since his promotion. However, he does have four consecutive scoreless outings to build from.

Hudson Valley (53-36; 16-10 second half) (Defeated Rome, 8-1)

CF Jackson Castillo1-for-3, R, 2 BB, 2 K
Jackson breaks his 0-for-15. He is now 16-for-57 (.281) with nine walks in July.
DH Dillon Lewis2-for-3, 2B (5), RBI, 3 R, BB
It would be so much fun if Lewis could end the season on a strong note.
LF Coby Morales1-for-5, RBI, R, 2 K
2B Jose Colmenares: 2-for-3, HR (5), 3 RBI, 2 R, 2 SB (12), 2 BB
3B Josh Moylan0-for-4, RBI, SB (6), BB, K
C Manuel Palencia0-for-4, 2 K
1B Kiko Romero2-for-3, SF, RBI, 2 SB (2)
SS Brenny Escanio0-for-2, SB (10), 2 BB, 2 K
RF Anthony Hall1-for-4, R, K

RHP Cade Smith2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K
Smith is unlikely to ramp up fully for a while.
RHP Matt Keating: (W, 2-1) 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
Keating did a nice job as a multi-inning reliever today, as I guess they didn’t have anyone available to piggyback. He owns a 3.03 ERA in 32.2 IP (25 H, 14 R, 11 ER, 1 HR, 14 BB, 37 K).
RHP Chris Kean: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
RHP Jordany Ventura1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Tony Rossi1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Since promotion: 1.90 ERA (23.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 HR, 15 BB, 30 K)

Tampa (45-44; 9-15 in the second half) (Tied with Dunedin, 0-0, in the 5th. This game was suspended due to rain)

Lineup below without notes – not that there would be anything exciting to add.

C Edgleen Perez0-for-1, BB
SS Roderick Arias0-for-2
DH Engelth Urena0-for-2
3B Juan Matheus0-for-2
CF Willy Montero0-for-2, K
LF Wilson Rodriguez0-for-1
RF Marshall Toole0-for-1, K
2B Owen Cobb0-for-1, K
1B Josue Gonzalez1-for-1, 2B (7)

RHP Brandon Decker4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
At least he was able to get in four innings of work before the rain ruined the night. Once this game becomes official, he will own a 3.10 ERA in 49.1 IP (43 H, 24 R, 17 ER, 2 HR, 22 BB, 49 K)

FCL (28-30) (Ended their season with a 9-2 loss to the FCL Tigers. The FCL Yankees are typically good enough to make the playoffs, but it isn’t the case in 2025.)

Since this is it for 2025, I will post the full lineup:

SS Dexters Peralta0-for-3, BB, K
.157/.253/.221 in 162 PA. As stated many times this season, Peralta got off to a miserable start. He had no chance to fully recover from it, but he did hit .255/.328/.412 in July.
RF Joe Delossantos0-for-2, BB, K
The 24-year-old was their 10th-round pick in 2024. He hit .286/.419/.371 in 86 plate appearances for Low-A Tampa last season but this was his first appearance in 2025. Since their season is over, he’s likely going to Tampa tomorrow.
   1B Johan Contreras: 0-for-1
CF Isael Arias0-for-4, 2 K
DH Ediel Rivera0-for-3, SB (12), BB
Rivera, a 19-year-old catcher signed as an undrafted free agent, finishes at .229/.346/.346 in 185 PA. All of his defensive games were at catcher. He started 13 games at designated hitter.
2B Luis Escudero1-for-3, SB (13), BB, K
1B-LF Santiago Gomez0-for-3, CS (4), HBP, K
LF-RF Gabriel Lara1-for-4, R, K
.277/.312/.486 in 109 PA. Known for his speed, Lara only went 4-for-9 stealing bases.
3B Kevin Verde0-for-3, K
C Luis Puello1-for-3, 2B (7), RBI, R, K
Like Rivera, he is also 19 years old. Unlike Rivera, he wasn’t asked to do much catching (only two starts). Most of his starts were in RF (14 starts). He hit .227/.290/.361 in 131 plate appearances (3 HR, 19 RBI).

RHP Jose M Rodriguez (L, 1-5): 3.2 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 3 K
RHP Josh Tiedemann0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Injuries have been an issue for the 13th-round pick in 2023. He has appeared in only seven games, with not-so-good results. The positive is 18 strikeouts in ten innings. The biggest negative is…ten career innings.
RHP Chance Nolan1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
The quarterback-turned-pitcher (a shot for every time I said that this year) finishes his season with a 1.50 ERA in 18 IP (13 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 13 BB, 12 K).
LHP Franyer Herrera1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Stanly Alcantara1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

DSL Yankees (14-23) (Lost to the DSL Rockies, 11-2. The Rockies are 28-9.)

CF Francisco Vilorio: 2-for-4, CS (2)
.291/.408/.350 in 142 PA (5 doubles, 1 triple, 0 HR, 12 RBI, 28 R, 5-for-7 SB, 14.8% BB, 27.5% K)
SS Mani Cedeno0-for-3, BB, K
2B Carlos Bello0-for-3, R, BB, K
3B Richard Matic2-for-3, 2B (10), RBI, BB
The team is having a rough season, but Matic isn’t. He is hitting .356/.489/.564 in 133 PA (10 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HR, 25 RBI, 27 R, 5-for-10 SB, 19.5% BB, 23.3% K). Negative: He is repeating the level. Positive: He was 16 years old last year, so the negative isn’t too negative.
DH Estivenzon Montero0-for-2, SF, RBI, BB
1B Edgar Jimenez1-for-4

RHP Jhosneyker Colina (L, 1-2): 3.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
The 17-year-old owns a 4.02 ERA (31.1 IP, 27 H, 19 R, 14 ER, 0 HR, 16 BB, 23 K

DSL Bombers (20-17) (Outslugged the DSL Cardinals, 10-8)

SS Stiven Marinez0-for-5, K
It is always annoying when you see that a team scored ten runs, but one of the top prospects at the level didn’t contribute to it.
CF Ruben Castillo1-for-4, 2 R, SB (15), BB, K
.211/.322/.382 in 143 PA
2B Juan Torres1-for-4, CS (6), BB
Torres has a 7-game hitting streak and is 15-for-39 (.385/.422/.487) in July.
LF Jose Castro0-for-3, 2 R, 2 BB
C Carlos Villarroel2-for-3, HR (6), 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, K
.245/.374/.468 in 115 PA (3 doubles, 6 HR, 19 RBI, 21 R). The 18-year-old has eight homers in 64 career games.

C Carlos Rondon:  1-for-1, 2B (4), RBI
DH Christofer Reyes2-for-5, RBI, R, 2 K
3B Leni Done0-for-1, 3 R, SB (9), 3 HBP
Interesting day for Done. His teammates took full advantage by converting the three HBP into runs.
1B Remy Veldhuisen1-for-3, 2B (6), 2 RBI, BB, 2 K
.321/.455/.395 in 101 PA (4-for-5 SB)

RHP Cesar Acosta (W, 1-3): 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K
I don’t get to see too many “wins” for starters at this level, so this was a pleasant surprise. The 18-year-old (debut season) owns a 6.20 ERA in 24.2 IP. Like many pitchers down here, control has failed him. It didn’t today.
LHP Kevin Centeno (S, 2): 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K

Yankees MILB 6/29: Spencer Jones Homers Again

Notes:

A slow weekend for news in the Yankees organization.

Injury Log

Scranton (43-35) (Defeated Worcester, 6-1)

2B Jorbit Vivas0-for-5
DH Jesus Rodriguez0-for-3, CS (5), BB, K
A late slump crushed his June numbers: .247/.362/.315. He is in a 3-for-35 slide (which followed four games where he went 8-for-18. Baseball!)
LF Spencer Jones2-for-4, HR (2), RBI, SB (1), K
Jones sets a new personal best with his 18th HR (52 games). This one went 360 feet at 95.8 MPH. He continues his recent trend of alternating games with HR (7 HR in his last 13 games – one every other game). Overall, between here and Somerset, he is hitting .277/.387/.606 (8 doubles, 18 HR, 34 RBI, 45 R, 11-for-13 SB, 14.9% BB, 34.2% K).
1B T.J. Rumfield0-for-4, K
RF Bryan De La Cruz1-for-3, 2B (6), 2 R, BB, K
De La Cruz is hitting .250/.329/.421 in 173 PA for Scranton (6 doubles, 7 HR, 22 RBI, 25 R, 6-for-6 SB). As a pure depth piece, he’s fine.
3B CJ Alexander1-for-3, CS (1), BB, 2 K
C Alex Jackson2-for-3, 2B (7), 2 R, BB
SS Andrew Velazquez2-for-3, HR (4), 4 RBI, R, BB, K
Velazquez hit his home run 394 feet at 106.7 MPH. And Jones is considered the big prospect? Phooey!
CF Duke Ellis2-for-3, RBI, BB

RHP Erick Leal: (W, 3-7)  7 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
It’s been a tough year for the veteran (6.54 ERA), so it’s nice to see him have an effort like this. Leal has given them 64.2 innings.
RHP Leonardo Pestana1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K
LHP Jayvien Sandridge1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
0.87 ERA (10.1 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 19 K)

Somerset (37-38) (Lost to Erie, 9-1)

2B Roc Riggio0-for-4
Riggio has run into a little slump (5-for-32). He was never going to keep up his early Double-A pace.
SS George Lombard Jr.0-for-4, K
Since promotion: .209/.340/.320 in 209 PA (7 doubles, 3 triples, 2 HR, 14 RBI, 34 R, 14-for-16 SB, 15.3% BB, 23.9%K). I can’t believe he has been here for 48 games. Time flies.
C Rafael Flores1-for-4, HR (13), RBI, R
Not one of his patented multi-hit efforts, but I think he’ll take the homer. Flores is hitting .287/.347/.491 in 317 PA and should be following Spencer Jones to Scranton soon as he is up to 667 Double-A plate appearances (.281/.353/.504 with 34 doubles and 28 home runs).
3B Dylan Jasso0-for-4, 4 K
Jasso has gone into the tank after I commented about his long on-base streak. I apologize to his friends and family. He is hitting .266/.340/.459 in 288 PA after a 1-for-19 end to his month.
CF Garrett Martin0-for-3, K
1B Tyler Hardman1-for-2, BB, K
DH Omar Martinez0-for-3, 3 K
Martinez is 3-for-13 with a homer since his promotion.
RF Cole Gabrielson0-for-2, BB
LF Cam Eden0-for-2, SB (3), HBP, K

RHP Trystan Vrieling (L, 0-2): 4.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K
5.93 ERA (27.1 IP, 35 H, 20 R, 18 ER, 4 HR, 16 BB, 22 K). There’s no sugarcoating it: It’s been rough for Vrieling since his return. Hopefully, he can find his groove.
RHP Danny Watson1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
RHP Bailey Dees2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
RHP Luis Pacheco1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K

Hudson Valley (42-31) (Lost to Wilmington, 4-3)

LF Jackson Castillo1-for-4, RBI, BB
Castillo somewhat salvaged his June late (.239/.336/.250), with the big issue being the power outage. He is 13-for-13 stealing bases (36-for-42 in his career)
CF Dillon Lewis1-for-5, RBI
Lewis had a chance to be the hero in the 9th (bases loaded, 2 outs) but it wasn’t meant to be. He is hitting .192/.238/.384 in 105 PA since his promotion with only a pair of stolen bases (hard to showcase your speed when you struggle to get on base).  Patience! (that goes for him and us)
DH Coby Morales0-for-4, K
RF Jace Avina0-for-3, K
  PH-RF Anthony Hall0-for-1, K
3B Alexander Vargas1-for-4, K
I get it – Vargas should be destroying this league, but it’s still fun to see him hit well. He is on a 9-game hitting streak.
2B Jose Colmenares1-for-3, 2B (10), R, SAC
1B Josh Moylan2-for-4, RBI, R, K
   PR Luis Durango0-for-0
C Manuel Palencia1-for-4, R
Palencia is 2-for-11 with a walk and two strikeouts since his promotion.
SS Brenny Escanio1-for-3, BB

RHP Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz: (L, 5-4)  4.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
A rare off game for Rodriguez-Cruz, who owns a 2.47 ERA in 76.2 IP (50 H, 27 R, 21 ER, 1 HR, 33 BB, 91 K). He finishes June with a 0.94 ERA (28.2 IP, 19 H, 7 R, 3 ER, 1 HR, 11 BB, 34 K). There is a LOT to like in this kid’s profile.
RHP Tyrone Yulie1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
4.57 ERA (21.2 IP, 14 H, 11 R, 11 ER, 1 HR, 14 BB, 30 K). Batters are only hitting .175 against him, and his ERA has been tarnished by a few rough outings. It is what it is – when you are reliever, it doesn’t take much to kill your ERA.
RHP Matt Keating1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
2.59 ERA (24.1 IP, 16 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 1 HR, 11 BB, 25 K)
RHP Chris Kean: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Tampa (41-33) (Defeated Ft. Myers, 3-1. They are 5-4 to start the second half)

C Edgleen Perez1-for-5
Perez ends June on a 6-game hitting streak (10-for-24). He walked 19 times this month (17 in April, 17 in May). His plate approach is there. It’s all about whether he can add a touch of power to his profile. At 19, he has time to develop the offensive package.
RF Brian Sanchez2-for-2, 2B (15), R, SB (23), 2 BB
.288/.367/.444 in 239 PA. He ends June on a 5-game hitting streak (9-for-18), which bumped his final line for the month to .300/.400/.444 with 13 stolen bases in 14 attempts.
SS Roderick Arias1-for-3, R, SB (19), K
Arias stole eight bases in June, but the triple slash (.208/.304/.267) won’t excite you. I don’t blame you for that.
DH Engelth Urena1-for-2, 2 RBI, R, 2 BB
Urena drove home 14 runs in June, giving him 33 on the season. He’s a different prospect than Perez, though he has some of the same plate discipline qualities (44 walks).
3B Juan Matheus0-for-4
1B Tyler Wilson1-for-4, K
LF Hans Montero1-for-4, RBI, SB (15), 3 K
CF Marshall Toole1-for-4, K
Toole hasn’t been “slumping,” but his performance has leveled off. He is at .287/.387/.437 in 204 PA with a 24-for-26 stolen base rate.
2B Santiago Gomez0-for-3, BB, K

RHP Brandon Decker4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
2.61 ERA (38 IP, 32 H, 16 R, 11 ER, 1 HR, 16 BB, 36 K). He tossed 61 pitches today after he was stretched to 60 last time out. They are slowly ramping him up and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a 70-75 limit soon.
RHP Justin Lange1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 Kter
Lange, once an intriguing pitching prospect, is having trouble hitting 90 MPH after his various injury issues.
RHP Jack Sokol (W, 3-1): 0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
2.77 ERA (26 IP, 24 H, 11 R, 8 ER, 1 HR, 12 BB, 19 K). The undrafted free agent out of Pitt turned in a 0.00 June ERA (10 IP), though he only struck out four.
RHP Sean Hermann1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
1.04 ERA (34.2 IP, 18 H, 10 R, 4 ER, 0 HR, 23 BB, 27 K). Hermann has cut down on the walks nicely as the season has gone along while maintaining his ability to keep the ball on the ground.
RHP Gus Hughes (S, 1): 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
