Notes:
RHP Eric Reyzelman, who lost the strike zone and some velocity in his last outing, was placed on the 7-day injured list today. Reyzelman had a difficult 2025. In addition to losing the strike zone, he ended up on the injured list.
Additionally, depth catcher Payton Henry was also placed on the injured list. Abrahan Gutierrez, whom the Yankees selected in the Triple-A phase of the 2025 Rule 5 draft, was promoted to Scranton to take his place.
Austin Wells is what he is, folks. Let’s stop pretending there’s “more to tap into”. Where? He hasn’t progressed. He walked a lot in 2024, hit for some power without walking much in 2025, and hasn’t hit anything in 2026.
“Maybe they should have kept some of their catching depth”.
Sure.
But have you seen the numbers those guys have? Agustin Ramirez and Jose Rodriguez are back in the minors. Rafael Flores can’t hit in Triple-A. Carlos Narvaez is hitting .214/.290/.313 for the Red Sox. The problem isn’t who they traded. The problem is who they kept. As it turns out, none of them are proving to be much, though Wells at least plays defense reasonably well. Not enough to justify the bat, of course.
The Yankees have to look outside the organization for an upgrade.
I just saw that J.C. Escarra was optioned to Triple-A, with Ali Sanchez called up. Sanchez isn’t much of anything, so whatever. Musical chairs at a position that needs HELP, not stiffs. Sanchez is a .183/.220/.233 career hitter over 133 plate appearances with the Mets, Cardinals, Marlins, Blue Jays, and Red Sox. What a tour. Maybe the goal is to show us how good of a hitter Wells really is by bringing up someone worse.
If Sanchez is just here for a day or two, I saw that Logan Porter of the Giants declared free agency rather than accept a minor league assignment. He doesn’t inspire confidence. It is possible they are interested in Elias Diaz, who also recently declared free agency after being designated for assignment by the Royals.
Scranton (31-29) (No-Hit Syracuse, 4-0)
SS George Lombard Jr.: 0-for-4, BB, 3 K
Since promotion: .197/.373/.287 in 158 PA (5 doubles, 2 HR, 12 RBI, 24 R, 6-for-8 SB, 20.3% BB, 21.5% K)

Luciano was activated off the injured list today (last played on May 21st).
2B Jonathan Ornelas: 1-for-1, HR (5), RBI, R
RF Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-for-4, R, K
Cabrera has hit safely in seven of his last eight games. He isn’t necessarily “hot,” though, as his triple slash has increased from .209/.292/.322 to .223/.294/.330.
3B Tyler Hardman: 0-for-3, R, BB, K
1B Seth Brown: 0-for-2, 2 BB, K
LF Kenedy Corona: 0-for-4, 2 K
CF Duke Ellis: 2-for-4, 3B (3), HR (2), 2 RBI, R, K
The Duke shows off the power.

RHP Brendan Beck: (W, 5-2) 7 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 6 K
3.55 ERA (66 IP, 48 H, 31 R, 26 ER, 8 HR, 21 BB, 66 K). In 2025, he had two no-hit starts – one that lasted six innings, and another that lasted five innings.
RHP Carson Coleman: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
3.80 ERA (23.2 IP, 15 H, 11 R, 10 ER, 0 HR, 13 BB, 24 K).

CF Garrett Martin: 0-for-5, 3 K
1B Nicholas Torres: 0-for-4, 3 K
DH DJ Gladney: 1-for-4, RBI, SB (11)
3B Coby Morales: 0-for-0
C Miguel Palma: 0-for-4, K
2B Connor McGinnis: 1-for-4
3B-P Kevin Verde: 2-for-3, R, BB
Well, at least he did something offensively…
SS Owen Cobb: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K
RF Cole Gabrielson: 2-for-4, 2 HR (2), 3 RBI, 2 R, K
His first career multi-HR game.
RHP Jack Cebert: 5 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 2 HR
Since promotion: 7.53 ERA (28.2 IP, 36 H, 25 R, 24 ER, 9 HR, 10 BB, 40 K). He has missed some bats while other bats are playing Home Run Derby. Double-A is always a challenge.
RHP Tony Rossi: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Rossi makes his Somerset debut after a dominant performance in Hudson Valley. He kept it up tonight.
RHP Michael Arias: 0 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, HR
Moving on…
RHP Chris Kean: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Kevin Verde: 1 IP, 10 H, 10 R, 10 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 3 HR
Position players like having fun when they pitch. I doubt Verde was having fun. Imagine being the guy who struck out.
Hudson Valley (25-29) (Won a wild one over Frederick, 14-13. They were trailing 10-3 after five innings. Both squads had a 7-run inning.)
DH Kaeden Kent: 3-for-5, 2B (11), SF, RBI, 2 R, K
Kent has six 3-hit efforts this season (20 multi-hit games).
SS Core Jackson: 2-for-4, 2B (9), 3B (2), 4 RBI, R, SB (14), CS (5), 2 BB, 2 K
Jackson’s offense continues to shine. Last six games: 10-for-23 (3 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HR, 11 RBI, 7 R, 7 BB, 4 K, 3-for-4 SB).
C Eric Genther: 0-for-5, HBP, 3 K
1B Kyle West: 0-for-5, R, BB, K
RF Wilson Rodriguez: 0-for-4, BB, K
14 runs despite their 3-4-5 hitters going 0-for-14.
3B Roderick Arias: 2-for-5, HR (3), 3 RBI, 2 R, K
2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-2, 2B (4), 3 R, 3 BB
When he is at his best, Tejeda is a pest. As I have said many times, power isn’t his game. However, he has 13 doubles in 51 games between here and Tampa. Entering the season, he had 25 doubles in 188 games.
LF Josh Moylan: 3-for-5, 2 HR (9), 5 RBI, 2 R, K
Moylan has six home runs in his last 11 games. This is his second career multi-HR game, and he set a personal best for RBI in a game.
CF Luis Durango: 1-for-3, 2 R, SB (1), 2 BB
Durango had 18 stolen bases in 27 games for Tampa.
RHP Rory Fox: 4.2 IP, 9 H, 10 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR
Allowing seven unearned runs in one inning is not a recipe for success, though the offense bailed him/them out. Fox owns a 5.87 ERA in 46 IP (52 H, 41 R, 30 ER, 7 HR, 17 BB, 49 K)
RHP Andrew Landry: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
RHP Hansel Rincon: (W, 1-2) 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
His first win since 2023 (didn’t pitch in 2024 or 2025).
RHP Wilmy Sanchez (S, 1): 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Tampa (28-27) (Defeated Palm Beach, 8-2)

He increases his on-base streak to 19.
1B Hans Montero: 0-for-4, K
RF Logan Maxwell: 3-for-3, HR (3), RBI, 3 R, CI
Maxwell has had three straight multi-hit games since coming off the injured list (one of those games was in the FCL).
LF Willy Montero: 2-for-4, 3B (1), HR (7), 2 RBI, 2 R, SB (11)
Montero has a 13-game hitting streak (5 doubles, 1 triple, 4 HR). He is hitting .261/.338/.429 in 207 PA. Before the streak, he was hitting .216/.289/.306.

C Engelth Urena: 1-for-3, HR (4), 2 RBI, R, BB, K
Urena has a 5-game hitting streak that includes a double and two home runs. It has increased his SLG 59 points (from .302 to .361). He also has three walks during the streak.
2B Luis Escudero: 0-for-2, 2 BB, K
LHP Henry Lalane: (W, 1-1) 5.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
Lalane generated 14 whiffs (at least three with each of his four pitches) and maxed out at 97.2 MPH. That works. Last three starts: 15.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 4 BB, 21 K. He owned a 6.30 ERA before this stretch. It is now 3.79.
RHP Jordarlin Mendoza: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K
Mendoza remains very erratic (15 walks in 16.2 innings), but is worth investing time in. He hit 100.1 MPH with his 4-seamer and 100 MPH with his sinker tonight.
LHP Jose Ledesma: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K
RHP Matthew Tippie: 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
FCL Yankees (13-12) (Outlasted the Tigers, 11-7)
3B Richard Matic: 1-for-2, RBI, R, HBP
Good news: He has reached base safely in all 25 games this season. The bad news: He was pulled early from the game. It wasn’t right after he was HBP, but it wouldn’t be shocking if it was related.
PH-CF Isael Arias: 0-for-1, R, SB (7), BB
CF-RF Wilberson De Pena: 1-for-3, R, 2 BB
C Queni Pineda: 2-for-5, 2B (1), HR (3), 2 RBI, 2 R, K

2B-SS Dexters Peralta: 2-for-4, 2B (2), HR (4), 2 RBI, 2 R, K
Peralta sets a new personal best for home runs in a season. In 42 games at this level in 2025, he slugged .221. This year, it’s .427.
LF-2B Christofer Reyes: 1-for-4, R, CS (2), K
RHP Omar Gonzalez: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
The 20-year-old continues his solid start (2.16 ERA in 25 innings with a 30/4 K/BB).
RHP Danny Flatt: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Enixon Sanchez: 1 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 3 K
2026 has been a struggle for the 18-year-old. He has allowed 15 runs (14 earned) over 6.1 innings.
RHP Edinzo Marquez (W, 1-0): 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
LHP Marco Manzano: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
DSL Yankees (1-3) (Lost to the Phillies, 7-6)
DH Isaias Castillo: 0-for-4, BB, 3 K
2B Stiven Marinez: 2-for-3, RBI, BB
There are times when players in the DSL don’t play full games. However, given that Marinez is one of their top long-range prospects, it is alarming he was pulled from the game today.
3B Abrahan Pichardo: 0-for-0, BB
CF Yostin Pena: 1-for-4, HR (1), SF, 3 RBI, R
Pena’s first professional home run.
SS Juan Torres: 2-for-5, R
Torres just keeps on hitting. He is 8-for-19. Just like last year, he isn’t walking much (one in 20 plate appearances), but he has only one strikeout as well. He has 17 multi-hit efforts in 51 career games.
1B-C Juan Martinez: 2-for-4, R, CS (1), BB
LF Kendry Diaz: 2-for-4, 2 R, BB
RHP Yunior Jerez: 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K
It wasn’t a perfect five innings (hit a batter). This was the 20-year-old’s professional debut after signing on March 18th.
DSL Bombers (1-3) (Outlasted Mets Blue, 11-10)
SS Dariel Santana: 0-for-3, R, 2 BB, 2 K
