Yankees MILB 5/25: Richard Matic Reaches Base 4 Times

Top 30 Prospects

Injury Log

Notes:

We have reached Memorial Day. Most of my thoughts in my MILB Top 30 Prospects list above haven’t really changed from a “system as a whole” perspective. If I do a midseason list, yes – some prospects will move around, drop out (hello, Cade Winquest!), etc.

If you want a reason to laugh at me today (most people do 365 days a year), here’s a link to my Ryan Weathers trade thoughts from back in the day. “If you can’t laugh at yourself when you are wrong, you cannot be proud of yourself when you are right.” – No idea if this is a real quote.

My Take: Yankees Acquire Ryan Weathers

Scranton (26-23)

Day off.

Somerset (23-22)

Day off.

Hudson Valley (21-23)

Day off.

Tampa (22-23)

Day off.

FCL Yankees (9-8) (Lost to the 14-3 Blue Jays, 8-3)

In the FCL, the playoffs consist of three division winners and a wild card. As you probably suspect, the Yankees are closer in the wild card race than the division race. The season has plenty of time remaining.

In case you are wondering about the chaos known as the Dominican Summer League, action gets underway on June 1st. I know I said that I don’t post full FCL lineups every day, even though I have. I can guarantee you that I do not post full DSL lineups every day, except *maybe* on Opening Day.

1B Richard Matic: 2-for-2, 2B (5), R, 2 BB
.333/.481/.460 in 81 PA. He is 7-for-9 stealing bases and has more walks (18) than strikeouts (14). He has reached base safely in all 17 games he has played this season (including seven multi-hit efforts), and has walked at least once in seven straight games.
RF Wilberson De Pena: 0-for-3, HBP
His 9-game hitting streak has transformed into a 10-game on-base streak. That’s a painful way to get there.
C Queni Pineda: 1-for-2, R, SB (5), CS (1), 2 BB, K
Pineda has stolen exactly five bases in all three years of his professional career. He has plenty of time to set a new personal record.
3B Leni Done: 0-for-3, R, BB, 2 K
SS Dexters Peralta: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, 3 K
LF Estivenzon Montero: 2-for-3, CS (1), K
“Do the Yankees hold the rights to every international kid named Montero and Arias?”  Valid question.
DH Austin Green: 1-for-3
The switch-hitting infielder is here on a rehab stint. Earlier this season, he went 8-for-36 with five RBI for Tampa before landing on the injured list.
2B Christofer Reyes: 0-for-3, SB (6), K
“Does he run every time he gets to first base?”  Gosh, I hope so.
CF Isael Arias: 0-for-3

RHP Stanly Alcantara3.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, HR
RHP Sunayro Martina1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, HR
We all have bad days.
LHP Marco Manzano1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
