Notes:
Some early-season numbers for former Yankees’ prospects:
TJ Rumfield, who got off to a good start with the Rockies, ran into a 6-for-46 (.130/.180/.196) slump. He has multiple hits in two of his last three games as he tries to get back on track.
Everson Pereira, whom the Rays traded to the White Sox over the winter, is hitting well in 14 games. He is hitting .286/.357/.551 with four doubles and three home runs in 56 plate appearances. He is 6-for-13 (.462) with a double and a home run vs. left-handed pitchers.
Oswald Peraza, who hit a double and two home runs in four games against the Yankees, is 6-for-18 since that series with a double. He is hitting .286/.359/.514 overall. As you would expect, he is grading out well defensively, especially at second base. The Angels haven’t played him at shortstop.
Jorbit Vivas, who is out of options, is off to a nice start for the Nationals. He is hitting .296/.400/.352 in 67 plate appearances while playing second and third base. He has an impressive 10.4% strikeout rate, which ranks 12th in baseball amongst players with at least 60 plate appearances. Savant isn’t fully buying into the offense, but he grades out well defensively thus far.
Teammate Clayton Beeter owns a solid ERA (3.48), but the FIP (6.52) is less than impressive thanks to a 17.4% walk rate. The strikeouts aren’t there either (19.6%). He struck out 38.1% of hitters after the Nationals acquired him in 2025.
Scranton (13-11)
Their game against Rochester was postponed. They will try to play two tomorrow.
Somerset (7-12) (Lost to Richmond, 9-1, on a rain-soaked night. After the long rain delay, they agreed to play only seven innings. When I was in my 20s, Saturday nights were much more enjoyable than this. OK, that’s a lie in my case)
3B George Lombard Jr.: 1-for-4, 2 K
A bit of a slowdown (2-for-15 in his last three games). You didn’t expect him to hit .400 all season, right?
LF Garrett Martin: 1-for-4, SB (2)
CF Jace Avina: 0-for-3
DH Marco Luciano: 0-for-3, 2 K
2B Tyler Hardman: 0-for-3, K
1B Coby Morales: 2-for-3, HR (5), RBI, R, K
Morales has homered in back-to-back games and has at least one hit in his last seven starts (he pinch hit on April 22)
RF Kenedy Corona: 1-for-2, BB
C Miguel Palma: 0-for-1, 2 BB
SS Owen Cobb: 1-for-3
LHP Kyle Carr: (L, 1-3) 2.2 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 4 BB, 4 K
Carr’s struggles continue. He owns a 9.56 ERA in 16 IP (23 H, 17 R, 17 ER, 1 HR, 11 BB, 19 K). In the minors, you don’t pull guys from the rotation because they are struggling. It’s a learning experience. However, a factory reset may be needed. He wouldn’t be the first prospect to run into a brick wall once promoted to Double-A.
RHP Wilmy Sanchez: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
LHP Will Brian: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, HR
0.77 ERA (11.2 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 18 K). This is only the second home run he has allowed in his professional career (67 innings).
Hudson Valley (11-7)
Their game against Brooklyn was postponed. They will try to play two tomorrow. Ugh, typing up a report with two doubleheaders on a Sunday? Let’s hope for more rain.
Tampa (7-13) (Lost to Lakeland, 6-1)
3B Jackson Lovich: 1-for-4, 2 K
DH Engelth Urena: 1-for-4, 3B (1), R, 2 K
It was a long journey to Urena’s first career triple (180th game; 758th plate appearance). He is hitting .158/.333/.246 in 72 plate appearances.
LF JoJo Jackson: 1-for-3, 2B (5), RBI
.246/.351/.415 in 77 PA.
SS Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek: 1-for-3, SB (3), BB, K
CF Willy Montero: 0-for-4
C Ediel Rivera: 0-for-3, BB, K
It’s been a struggle for the 20-year-old (.128/.241/.149 in 54 PA).
1B Hans Montero: 0-for-3, K
2B Austin Green: 0-for-0, SB (1), BB
Green walked and stole a base in the second inning, but didn’t come out for defense in the bottom half of the inning.
2B Kevin Verde: 0-for-2, K
RF Santiago Gomez: 0-for-3, 2 K
RHP Danny Flatt: (L, 1-2) 5 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, HR
RHP Jose M. Rodriguez: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
1.59 ERA (11.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 8 BB, 19 K). He has a deep arsenal that includes a mid-90s sinker. It topped out at 97.6 MPH tonight.
RHP Jordarlin Mendoza: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, HR
