Yankees MILB 4/24: Jace Avina Homers Twice

Top 30 Prospects

Injury Log

Notes:

I have nothing to offer, beyond wondering who comes up if Giancarlo Stanton goes on the injured list. Jasson Dominguez is the obvious choice if you can guarantee playing time. If not, it will be someone they throw at the end of the bench until Anthony Volpe is ready. Oswaldo Cabrera and Max Schuemann are on the 40-man roster.

Scranton (13-11) (Defeated Rochester, 4-3, in 10 innings)

SS Anthony Volpe0-for-4, 2 K
Although he didn’t play a full game, that is due to extra innings. Volpe’s rehab is entering the “race to the finish line” stage, as he has reached 23 plate appearances.

Coleman started the season on the injured list. The 29-year-old has 97 games of MLB experience with the Royals and Astros, compiling a 3.84 ERA (4.33 FIP) over 93.2 innings with a 24.2% K and 14% BB.  The season that stands out is 2022, when he owned a 2.78 ERA over 68 innings with a 24.6% K and 12.8% BB.  As for what he featured tonight, his 4-seam fastball averaged 95.1 MPH, throwing it 80% of the time. 0.96 ERA (9.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 14 K).  A rare night, as Cruz didn’t throw any pitches 100+ MPH (maxed out at 99.3)

RF Garrett Martin1-for-3, HBP, BB, K
CF Jace Avina: 2-for-4, 2 HR (4), 2 RBI, 2 R, BB, K
Avina’s 6th career multi-home run game (he did it on back-to-back days last year).  He has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, and this is his first multi-hit effort during that stretch.
2B Marco Luciano0-for-4, R, SB (2), BB, 2 K
1B Coby Morales: 1-for-2, HR (4), RBI, 3 R, 2 SB (4), 2 BB, K
Busy night for Morales. In 2024, he had a surprising year stealing bases, going 34-for-42. Last season, he went 17-for-20. This was surprising because he wasn’t a basestealer at all in college (1-for-3).
3B Tyler Hardman0-for-4, 3 K

Castillo had seven 3+ hit efforts in 2025.

RHP Rory Fox (W, 1-1): 4.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, HR
Fox’s first professional win. The strikeouts are nice, even if the rest of the line is iffy. While the ERA doesn’t stand out (7.53), he does have 21 strikeouts over 14.1 innings. Remember that this is his debut campaign, and they sent him straight to Hudson Valley.

Tampa (7-12) (Defeated Lakeland, 4-3)

3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 3-for-5, 2B (5), R, 2 K
Tejeda’s amazing ascent continues. He is on an 8-game hitting streak that includes four multi-hit efforts (15-for-37), as his triple slash is now .250/.422/.406. Before the streak, he was at .037/.333/.074. Amazing turnaround.
DH Engelth Urena1-for-5, 2 K
CF JoJo Jackson0-for-4, SF, RBI, 2 K

3B Kevin Verde1-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, R, 2 K
Verde doesn’t play much, and entered today only 1-for-14.  Naturally, he would be the one to give the Tarpons a 4-3 lead with a 2-run home run in the top of the 8th.

LHP Justin West4.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, HR
