Notes:
LHP Henry Lalane is officially on the injured list for Tampa. The 21-year-old started his professional journey in 2017, but has tossed only 150 career innings, 89.2 of which came in the first two years.
RHP Cade Winquest is officially out of the organization, as the Cardinals took him back after he cleared waivers. Unlike the other 29 organizations, the Cardinals are not required to place him on the 26-man or 40-man roster.
RHP Jake Bird is back in the minors. In 11 appearances since being acquired, he owns a 12.00 ERA over nine innings with three home runs allowed and a 13/3 K/BB. In case you are wondering about the prospects given up in that trade, Roc Riggio is off to a slow start in Double-A (2-for-26, though he has drawn ten walks) while LHP Ben Shields is currently on the 60-day injured list. He experienced shoulder soreness when he made a start in the Arizona Fall League (he allowed five runs in 0.1 innings).
RHP Yerry de los Santos was called up to replace Bird. He pitched well in 25 games last year, compiling a 3.28 ERA (3.44 FIP) over 35.2 innings. He compiled a 17.5% K, 10.6% BB, and 54.4% GB. While the strikeout and walk rates aren’t impressive, he kept the ball on the ground and didn’t allow it to go over the fence (one home run allowed). For Scranton this season, he pitched to a 1.93 ERA in 9.1 innings with a 13/3 K/BB.
SS Anthony Volpe started a rehab stint with Somerset tonight. No news on whether he tried to do the “Tonya Harding” to George Lombard Jr.
