Notes:
I have nothing for you.
Scranton (6-3) (Mauled Rochester, 16-5)
LF Jasson Dominguez: 2-for-6, 2 RBI, 2 K
Keep it going, Jasson.
2B Oswaldo Cabrera: 2-for-5, HR (1), RBI, 3 R, BB
Much-needed afternoon for Cabrera, who is 6-for-32 (.188). He now has starts at first base, second base, shortstop, left field, and right field.
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-5, HR (2, grand slam), 4 RBI, 2 R, 3 K
The home run was smoked (108.8 MPH), though Savant doesn’t have a distance (which tells me at least 555 feet). So far this season: .212/.297/.485 in 37 PA (3 doubles, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 7 R, 3 BB, 19 K)
RF Yanquiel Fernandez: 2-for-6, 3B (1), RBI, 2 R, K
Seven of Fernandez’s ten hits have gone for extra bases (one double, one triple, five home runs).
DH Seth Brown: 2-for-5, R, 2 K
1B Ernesto Martinez Jr.: 2-for-6, HR (2), RBI, 2 R
Despite his size, Martinez Jr. hit only six home runs in 80 games in 2025. So far, the power is showing up in 2026’s small sample (.611 SLG).
C Ali Sanchez: 3-for-4, HR (1), 4 RBI, 3 R, 2 BB
As I keep saying, there is a battle to become the #4 catcher (with Ben Rice at #3). Sanchez is off to a strong start (10-for-19).
3B Braden Shewmake: 2-for-5, 2B (1), 2 R, K
SS Jonathan Ornelas: 2-for-3, 2 RBI, R, SB (1), 2 BB
RHP Luis Gil: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 6 K, HR
Gil threw 90 pitches in his tune-up for an MLB start this week. He averaged only 93.4 MPH with his fastball
RHP Yovanny Cruz (W, 2-0): 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Cruz topped 100 MPH twice today. So far this season: 4.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K.
RHP Harrison Cohen: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Cohen’s cutter reaches the mid-80s on a good day, but he generates a solid number of whiffs with it.
RHP Carson Coleman: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
Somerset (1-1)
Their game against Portland was postponed. They will attempt to make it up on April 29th.
Hudson Valley (2-0)
Their game against Brooklyn was postponed. I don’t see a makeup date posted.
Tampa (0-3) (Lost to Lakeland, 13-6. The Tarpons allowed 38 runs in these three games. Oof.)
2B Enmanuel Tejeda: 0-for-3, R, CS (1), BB
RF Brando Mayea: 1-for-5, 2B (1), 2 RBI, K
Mayea is off to a 3-for-14 start.
C Engelth Urena: 0-for-2, R, SB (1), 2 BB, K
An 0-for-10 start for Urena, though he has drawn four walks.
SS Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek: 1-for-4, RBI, R, SB (2), K
CF Willy Montero: 1-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, R, 2 K
Montero hit one home run in 45 games here last year.
LF JoJo Jackson: 1-for-4, R, SB (2)
DH Ediel Rivera: 1-for-4, R, K
1B Hans Montero: 1-for-4, SB (1), 2 K
3B Santiago Gomez: 1-for-4, K
RHP Danny Flatt: 4.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
The 21-year-old made seven starts in 2025, pitching to a 4.33 ERA over 27 innings with a 21/17 K/BB. Thus, it is encouraging to see the seven strikeouts and zero walks today.
RHP Jordarlin Mendoza (L, 0-1): 0.2 IP, 5 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
I will try to be positive: Mendoza averaged 95.5 MPH with his sinker, topping at 98.4. If he can find a way to harness that thing…
LHP Parker Seay: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, HR
Professional debut for Seay, who was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2024 (he spent 2025 on the full-season injured list). He used a sinker/change/slider/4-seamer mix, averaging 90.2 with the sinker.
LHP Pedro Rodriguez: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
The 23-year-old makes his full-season league debut after making 53 appearances over four seasons in the DSL/FCL. He hits the low 90s with his 4-seamer and sinker.
RHP Kevin Verde: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Last night, they needed to use two position players. Today, they improved by having to only use one.
