Yankees MILB 7/1: Engelth Urena Homers

Notes:

C/UTIL Anthony Seigler, the Yankees’ first-round pick in 2018, has earned his union card. The Milwaukee Brewers, who signed him as a minor league free agent last winter, added him to the roster today.

Drafted as a catcher, the Yankees started giving him time at second base in 2023. In 2024, he stopped catching entirely to focus on his new position.

This year, the Brewers started letting him catch again while giving him a new position to learn (third base). Additionally, he still gets time at second base.

The main culprit in Seigler’s development stalling was injuries. Moving to second base seemed to help him last season, as he played in a career-high 118 games, hitting .234/.350/.398 with 29 stolen bases in 32 attempts. That wasn’t enough for the Yankees to add him to the 40-man.

For the Brewers’ Triple-A affiliate this year, he is hitting .277/.415/.465 in 267 plate appearances with 20 stolen bases in 23 attempts.

A unique ability to play catcher and a few other positions, plus his ability to steal bases, make him an intriguing bench piece at least.

RHP Baron Stuart was promoted from Somerset to Scranton.
