Notes:
RHP Anthony DeSclafani has opted out of his contract, instantly signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks. It isn’t uncommon for a veteran on a minor league deal to do this. The Yankees could have added him to the 26-man roster, but there wasn’t a need.
RHP McKinley Moore, as big of a project as you will find, was released. The 6’6″ Moore spent time on Scranton’s active roster, injured list, and development list. When he pitched, the results weren’t great (6.23 ERA in 8.2 IP with a 6/9 K/BB). The walks have always kept him down, preventing him from getting back to MLB (he briefly pitched for the Phillies in 2023).
RHP Harrison Cohen has earned a promotion to Scranton. Cohen dominated for Somerset, and it will be fun to get some Savant pitch breakdowns.
RHP (catch a theme?) Bailey Dees‘ stay in Hudson Valley was short. He is back with Somerset after making one start.
By the way, for those who wonder how long I have written these reports: I used to write them on the public Yankees newsgroup (and later a private one). The earliest report I found was from 2002, though it wasn’t in this form. That’s 23 years ago, which ages and surprises me.
Scranton (32-31) (Defeated Syracuse, 6-1)
C Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-4, RBI, R, K
At this level: .347/.438/.438 in 214 PA. He has an 11-game on-base streak.
2B Jorbit Vivas: 1-for-2, RBI, R, 2 BB
DH Everson Pereira: 2-for-4, 2 2B (4), 2 RBI, R
A much-needed effort, as he is only 7-for-37 in June.
1B T.J. Rumfield: 0-for-4, K
LF Brennen Davis: 1-for-3, RBI, BB, K
PR-CF Andrew Velazquez: 0-for-0, SB (17)
3B CJ Alexander: 0-for-3, BB, K
Alexander’s organizational debut.
RF Bryan De La Cruz: 1-for-4, R, 2 SB (3), K
SS Braden Shewmake: 1-for-4, 2B (4), R
Shewmake, who has survived on the 40-man roster all year, owns an 8-game hitting streak.
CF-LF Ismael Munguia: 1-for-4, RBI, R
RHP Cam Schlittler: (W, 1-1) 5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, HR
First two Scranton starts: 10.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 HR, 6 BB, 15 K. The only runs allowed are solo home runs. The walks are elevated, but that doesn’t scare me. His fastball reached 97.9 MPH, and he generated 12 whiffs on 36 swings. This kid’s talent is real.
RHP Leonardo Pestana: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Clayton Beeter: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Beeter topped out at 97.3 MPH, and he generated four whiffs on six swings against his slider. June: 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K
RHP Colten Brewer: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Somerset (27-33) (Lost to Portland, 6-1)
3B George Lombard Jr.: 0-for-3, SB (11), BB, K
At this level: .219/.355/.298 (2 doubles, 2 triples, 1 HR, 9 RBI, 23 R, 11-for-13 SB, 17% BB, 24.1% K). Between Somerset and Hudson Valley, he has 45 runs in 56 games.
DH Giancarlo Stanton: 0-for-4, 2 K
Stanton is 3-for-11 with a walk and three strikeouts. We’ll see how much longer they keep him down here.
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-4, R, K
C Rafael Flores: 3-for-4, 2B (15), RBI, K
Flores has eight 3-hit games this season (16 multi-hit games). He is 12-for-39 (.308) with a pair of doubles and a homer in June.
2B Roc Riggio: 0-for-3, BB, K
You are supposed to hit a home run every night, Roc!
LF Garrett Martin: 0-for-4, K
1B Tyler Hardman: 0-for-4
RF Cam Eden: 0-for-2, 2 BB, K
SS Max Burt: 0-for-2, BB
RHP Carlos Lagrange: (L, 1-1) 4 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 2 K
Lagrange walked only one in his Double-A debut, but didn’t have it tonight. Am I concerned? No. Did I wonder about how advanced hitters would approach him? Yes. You always worry about the control with a kid of his size. Additionally, Portland ran crazy on him. They stole 11 bases in 11 attempts over four innings. Yes, some of that may be on Flores as well (he entered tonight with a 16% CS rate)
RHP Bailey Dees: 4 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K
At this level: 4.79 ERA (47 IP, 44 H, 26 R, 25 ER, 6 HR, 25 BB, 59 K). He struck out nine in seven innings in his Hudson Valley start.
RHP Kelly Austin: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
Hudson Valley (35-23) (Lost to Greenville, 3-2)
CF Dillon Lewis: 1-for-4, BB, K
LF Jackson Castillo: 2-for-5, R, SB (11)
Castillo has three multi-hit games this month (nine games played). He is 6-for-6 stealing bases.
RF Coby Morales: 2-for-4, 2B (11), R
Morales is 13-for-42 (4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR) in June.
3B Parks Harber: 1-for-3, SF, 2 RBI, 2 K
Harber has a 9-game hitting streak (12-for-32). Harber has 40 RBI in 52 games.
DH Omar Martinez: 1-for-4, K
SS Alexander Vargas: 0-for-4
1B Josh Moylan: 1-for-3, SB (4), BB
PR Luis Durango: 0-for-0
2B Brenny Escanio: 0-for-3, SAC, 2 K
C Tomas Frick: 1-for-3, 2B (6), BB, K
RHP Hayden Merda: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
3.33 ERA (27 IP, 20 H, 11 R, 10 ER, 2 HR, 12 BB, 39 K). This was Merda’s first start in 2025 (20 starts in 2023 before missing 2024). If they aren’t starting to stretch him out, it was likely an emergency start.
LHP Geoffrey Gilbert: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
3.94 ERA (16 IP, 15 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 1 HR, 6 BB, 25 K).
RHP Tyrone Yulie: (L, 1-2) 1 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
RHP Matt Keating: 2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
RHP Bryce Warrecker: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
1.01 ERA (26.2 IP, 12 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 6 BB, 32 K)
Tampa (32-25)
Their doubleheader against Clearwater was postponed. They will try to play two tomorrow. No word on when they will try to make up the second game (it isn’t marked as cancelled, so I assume they will try)
FCL (15-14) (Knocked off the Blue Jays, 7-1)
CF Duke Ellis: 0-for-3, RBI, R, SB (3), BB, 2 K
DH Manuel Palencia: 1-for-3, 2 R, BB
Palencia is 12-for-25 in June. Every game he played last year (29) was in Low-A, so keep that in mind. He showed off contact skills (.281/.314/.344; 11.8% K) in that short stint.
C Ediel Rivera: 1-for-3, 2B (5), 3 RBI, R, 2 K
.265/.366/.382 in 82 PA (5 doubles, 1 HR, 10 RBI, 13 R, 5-for-7 SB, 8.5% BB, 29.3% K). The 19-year-old is having a solid professional debut, even with the elevated strikeouts.
RF Wilson Rodriguez: 2-for-3, R, 2 SB (5), BB
.364/.429/.477 in 50 PA. He has six multi-hit efforts. While this is the 20-year-old’s third season here, he played in only 23 games in the first two years.

5.40 ERA (23.1 IP, 12 H, 14 R, 14 ER, 2 HR, 16 BB, 28 K). This is a new personal best for strikeouts in a game.
RHP Yarison Ruiz: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K
The 25-year-old is on a rehab stint. He has yet to pitch above this level but was assigned to Tampa before the season. He has tossed only 38 innings in his career, 30 of which came in 2021.
LHP Franyer Herrera: 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
12.2 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 6 BB, 18 K

DSL Bombers (3-4) (Squeaked past the DSL Tigers 2, 7-6. They were 10-for-11 stealing bases. I love the rookie leagues)
DH Stiven Marinez: 0-for-2, R, 2 SB (4), 2 BB
.250/.429/.250 with a pair of RBI and six runs scored.
