Rodriguez-Cruz was acquired from the Red Sox in exchange for catcher Carlos Narvaez. He is the type of “lottery ticket” arm you should target for a 40-man roster guy. Only 21, he went 5-5 with a 2.91 ERA in 89.2 IP between Low-A and High-A last season with a 102/43 K/BB.

RHP Hayden Merda: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
The 6’6″ Merda missed the 2024 season. At this level in 2023, he went 3-6 with a 6.21 ERA in 21 games (20 starts), posting a 96/57 K/BB over 95.2 innings. The Yankees signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2022.
RHP Tyrone Yulie: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Another pitcher who missed the 2024 season. In 2023, at this level, he posted a 4.56 ERA in 79 IP with a 90/43 K/BB.

Even as I talk about Arias being a “raw” talent, he sneakily puts up solid BB rates (12.3% last year).

Perez is only 18 years old. He easily conquered the DSL and FCL, earning himself this challenge. He is amongst the youngest players in the Florida State League (he is not the youngest. Andrew Salas (Marlins) holds that distinction).

Urena’s 2023 injury stalled his timetable, but he is still only 20 years old. In 40 FCL games last year, he hit 11 doubles and 8 HR while driving home 31. The power potential he possesses is legitimate

After being drafted last year, Harber was assigned here. He hit .269/.389/.449 in 23 games with a homer and 19 RBI.

A day after Griffin Herring dazzled in his professional debut, Bauman turns in a solid effort in his debut. The 6’5″ 22-year-old was drafted in the 9th round in the 2024 draft. For Auburn last year, he went 3-2 with a 4.57 ERA in 20 appearances (6 starts) with a 47/16 K/BB over 41.1 IP.

Bustamente spent the entire 2024 season on the injured list.

This is the professional debut for Veach, who the Yankees signed as an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina. This is the first time I am saying this in 2025: Don’t let an “undrafted” status sour you on a prospect. The draft is shorter nowadays, leaving a lot of talent out there for teams to sign.
RHP Gus Hughes: (W, 1-0) 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Hughes’ first professional appearance is a successful one. Drafted in the 18th round in 2024, the High Point graduate stands only 6’0″. Last season, as a starter, he went 6-4 with a 3.77 ERA in 102.2 IP with a 111/41 K/BB. A few High Point players have reached the big leagues, with reliever Cody Allen (Guardians, Angels) being the most successful.

Jones has a .786 OPS. Can he get to .800? It will take a strong week. That said, his OPS in 2024 is higher than 2023 (.780). In 117 games last year, Jones swatted 29 doubles, 4 triples and 16 home runs. In 117 games this year, he has compiled 29 doubles, 6 triples, and 16 home runs. Interesting.

The Yankees haven’t stetched him out beyond 4.2 innings, but that is an amazing footnote. The best part of his season is that his walk rate dipped considerably upon being placed in the rotation.

Rumfield is on a 5-game hitting streak (10-for-21, 5 RBI). He is hitting .295/.364/.454 since his promotion. While I try to read between the lines, I don’t know what the Yankees think of most of their prospects. Rumfield is rarely talked about in prospect circles.

Romero’s Double-A debut. His RBI single in the 9th tied the game and his home run in the 10th provided a cushion. The 23-year-old, drafted in the 7th round in the 2023 draft out of Arizona, hit .208/.349/.362 in 252 PA for Hudson Valley.

Burt left the game due to an injured hand.

Lombard Jr. has eight doubles in his last 12 games (he has reached base safely in each game). He is hitting .236/.333/.309 in 126 PA since his promotion and .233/.341/.338 in 492 PA overall (25 doubles, 2 triples, 5 HR, 45 RBI, 56 R, 39-for-47 SB (82.98%), 12.4% BB, 22.8% K). The numbers may not overwhelm you but he had a tough time after being promoted to Hudson Valley. He has the ability to explode in 2025.

I don’t want to hear Brian Cashman call everyone else idiots while defending “the process.” No process exists that justifies this. No analytical data, no whatever data Aaron Judge wants to use. Nothing. Enough is enough with this clown show. By the way, I don’t see Dominguez as a “savior.” They have two of the best hitters in the galaxy for that role. He is the pitcher who didn’t pitch in an affiliated league between 2020 (no minor league season) and 2023. The Yankees signed the 25-year-old in June after he tossed 22.2 innings of 2.78 ERA ball in the Mexican League.

Is his size a detriment? Maybe, but we shouldn’t downgrade him on that alone. At 5’6″, he is the same height as Jose Altuve (Hall of Fame aspirations) and Tony Kemp (not quite Hall of Fame material). We have successful 5’7″ and 5’8″ players. How much does that extra height matter? The other question is defensive flexibility. The Yankees play him all over the field in the minors. Does a kid with his size have the arm to play anywhere other than 2B in MLB? His profile is intriguing and, while he isn’t a power hitter, his power is spiking this year.
LF Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-0
Will Dominguez be up in September? He should be. However, the Yankees will need to find room. Will Trent Grisham (who has minor league options) be a causality?
