Ramirez has five 3+ BB games this season (including a 5 BB effort). There is a reason why the Yankees have him hitting at the top part of the lineup. He is hitting .259/.404/.414 in 208 PA with more walks (41) than strikeouts (38).

Familia’s hitting streak is up to 12. He is hitting .407/.485/.966 (that is his slugging, not his OPS) in 68 ridiculous plate appearances (5 doubles, 2 triples, 8 HR, 23 RBI, 19 R, 6 BB, 12 K). It will be noted that he is 23 years old and played 36 games here in 2022 – but he is doing what he needs to do to advance up the chain.

4.29 ERA (42 IP, 23 H, 24 R, 20 ER, 3 HR, 34 BB, 72 K). He is definitely living up to his label as a raw power arm. He hit 98.4 on the gun.
RHP Shane Gray (W, 1-2): 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
3.77 ERA (31 IP, 24 H, 14 R, 13 ER, 4 HR, 11 BB, 38 K). He started the season slow (7.94 ERA in seven April games) but has been tough to hit since.

FCL Yankees (7-3) (Doubled up the Phillies, 8-4)

DH Roderick Arias: 2-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K, SB (3)
Arias breaks out of his slump and hopefully, this starts a new upward trend for the ultra-talented teenager.
SS Hans Montero: 2-for-4, RS, BB, K
Montero had a .592 OPS in 2021 and a .606 OPS in 2022 (both seasons played in the DSL). Some may have already started to sour on him, but he is off to a hot start in 2023.
3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-3, RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB, K
Tejeda is hitting .345/.583/.586 in 48 plate appearances with 16 walks. I keep trying to tell you that the FCL and DSL are crazy as heck leagues.
CF John Cruz: 2-for-5, 2 HR (3), 6 RBI, 2 RS
Cruz has 14 RBI in his last two games. He is 10-for-37 with 19 RBI in nine games. Good luck finding anything that even resembles a reliable scouting report, but if he keeps this up, we’ll start seeing some.
C Manuel Palencia: 3-for-3, BB
Palencia’s first three hits of 2023 (3-for-14). He has yet to strike out in 2023 and has 25 in 301 career PA (8.3%). 

RHP Zach Greene: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 3 K
This is a rehab appearance for the 26-year-old. Last season, for Scranton, he went 9-0 with a 3.42 ERA in 68.1 innings with a 33.3% K and 11.1% BB. The biggest issue was the 11 home runs allowed.
RHP Edwar Polimir (W, 1-0):  3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
Nice outing, but Polimir is already 22 years old.

Sanchez is listed as a SS. That said, he only played eight games in 2022 (his debut season), going 1-for-13 with a homer. Is he being transitioned to the mound?

Another kid listed as a SS who got on the mound today, it appears (he also made a pitching appearance back in 2021). What does it all mean? Who the heck knows? It’s the FCL, where you should be experimenting with this stuff I guess.

DSL Bombers (7-3) (Defeated the Rockies, 8-6, on a walk-off 2-run HR by Gabriel Terrero (he hit 2 HR today))

10-for-31 (2 doubles, 4 HR, 12 RBI). As of this writing, his four home runs are tied for the DSL lead.

Mayea gets back into the outfield today. He didn’t play the full game, but that is common when someone has missed some time.

Yankees MILB 6/15: Estevan Florial Homers Twice

News:

RHP Chase Hampton has been promoted to Somerset, where he will start on Sunday.

The 21-year-old is making the rise to Double-A after only nine minor league starts, all at High-A Hudson Valley this year. He produced an impressive 2.68 ERA (2.90 FIP) over 47 innings with a 40.5% K and 8.4% BB. He allowed five home runs, just under 1.0 HR/9. Amongst all MILB pitchers with at least 40 innings, Hampton ranks 3rd in K% and 2nd in K-BB%. Both categories are led by Cincinnati’s Andrew Abbott, who is listed as MLB’s 94th-best prospect. Abbott’s stock will rise, and so will Hampton’s. Hampton is currently ranked as the Yankees’ #24 prospect (Pipeline) and could (should?) jump into the Top 5 when they do their next major update.

How far can he take this? Let’s see what happens against advanced hitters. In 2016, James Kaprielian seemed to be on a fast track before an injury crushed his season after three starts. Before him, Joba Chamberlain flew all the way up to MLB in his first professional season to help the big league bullpen (I doubt Hampton will be asked to do that).

It was Florial who engineered the comeback, with his solo HR in the 6th and 3-run bomb in the 7th. He now owns a 33-game on-base streak and has tied his personal best for HR in a season. This is his third multi-HR game of 2023 and 7th in his career (all since 2021). Oh, and this also ties his personal best for RBI in a game (now done three times). 
DH Oswald Peraza: 1-for-4, 3B (1), RS, K
Peraza is hitting .298/.370/.573. Could he be worse than Josh Donaldson? I guess, though that bar is ridiculously low. However, remember that calling up Peraza is also about finishing off his development.

Cruz is only 17. In the DSL last season, he hit five home runs and drove home 24 in 54 games. He did that as a 16-year-old, which is pretty impressive.

Yankees MILB 6/10: Fitts, Hampton Dominate

News:

OF Brandon Lockridge is now a member of the Scranton Railriders. The 26-year-old (who can play any of the three outfield positions) hit .313/.395/.510 in 114 plate appearances for Somerset, stealing 17 bases in 19 attempts. Don’t be fooled by the fact he has played mostly RF this season. There are kids named Jasson Dominguez and Everson Pereira who need their CF reps.

Last year, Lockridge had a shockingly down season, hitting only .230/.300/.378 in 108 games for Somerset. This was after hitting .328/.382/.557 in 43 games for Somerset in 2021. Interestingly, a repeat of his 2021 season may have forced the Yankees to protect him (or trade him). His down season likely kept him from being a Rule 5 target.

He is a legitimate depth outfielder who can make his debut at any point. At the very least, he could be a Tim Locastro type in the big leagues. It is all dependent on what the bat becomes – the glove and speed are in place.

SS Oswald Peraza missed today’s doubleheader against Norfolk. I learned later in the day that he fouled a ball off of his leg in yesterday’s game, so that can explain it.

He pitched in High-A, Double-A, Triple-A, and New York in his first year. I am putting the cart before the horse – let’s get him to Double-A first.

One has to assume he won’t linger down here much longer.

Fristoe’s professional debut. He is listed at 6’4″ and comes out of Mississippi State.

The 22-year-old struck out 59 hitters in 38.1 innings for the DSL squad last year.

Semmel has tossed 32.2 innings at this level, compiling a 3.03 ERA and 31/11 K/BB ratio. If he is healthy, they will get him to Tampa soon enough.

DSL Yankees (5-0) and the DSL Bombers (5-0) both won. The Yankees won a crazy 13-12 game (they were down 12-5) while the Bombers took a much less crazy 5-2 decision.

2B Luis Escudero (17) went 2-for-4 with a big 3-run HR (first of his career) with two outs in the 8th inning…C Josue Gonzalez (19) contributed a huge 3-run double…DH Santiago Gomez (19) had a hit, three walks, two runs scored, and a stolen base…CF Andres Lacruz (18) had two hits (including a double), two runs batted in, and a stolen base…For such a crazy game, it ended in a mundane way: An RBI walk by LF Jhon Imbert, one of his three walks…RHP Ernesto Disla (19) calmed things down with 1.1 scoreless innings. He walked one and struck out two…

For the Bombers:

Both LF Abrahan Ramirez and 2B Geyber Blanco had a pair of hits. Blanco’s hits included a double…C Edgleen Perez drove home a pair of runs without a hit. He went 0-for-2 with two walks and an HBP…CF Ramiro Altagracia doubled, walked, and drove home a run…

Florial is in the midst of a 10-game hitting streak. He has five multi-hit games during the streak and has at least one extra-base hit in nine of the games. Overall, he is hitting .322/.432/.645.
SS Oswald Peraza: 3-for-6, 2 HR (9), 2 RBI, 3 RS
Peraza is now the owner of a 7-game hitting streak and has 8 HR in his last ten games. This is his 4th career multi-HR game (second this month). I have said since Spring Training that he has nothing to prove here. I don’t care about a logjam in MLB – Peraza does not belong here.  Anyway, he is hitting .347/.398/.663.
LF Elijah Dunham: 2-for-5, 2 K
.219/.347/.331 in 202 plate appearances. He started the season strong (.256/.378/.390 in April) but simply couldn’t get much going in May.

2.14 ERA (21 IP, 16 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 0 HR, 11 BB, 26 K). Some have asked if he can be stretched out to start, given he did a little starting for Clemson. I am sure the Yankees will consider it as they have tried that path with many of their pitching prospects.

2.11 ERA (21.1 IP, 16 H, 8 R, 5 ER, 2 HR, 11 BB, 32 K). Even after the promotion of Watson, strong arms remain down here in Tampa.

Mason Vinyard is now a member of the Hudson Valley Renegades, as he was promoted from the Tampa Tarpons according to the Hudson Valley Twitter feed.

Vinyard, a 23-year-old RHP, was signed as an undrafted free agent last year (Western Kentucky). For Tampa, he pitched to a 3.33 ERA in 24.1 innings with a 32/10 K/BB ratio.

RHP Yoendrys Gomez is back from the injured list. He is a 40-man roster guy with one minor league option left. We are nearing the “now or never” part of his career. The talent is there – the health hasn’t been.
