Yankees MILB 4/19: Trystan Vrieling: 7.2 Hitless Innings

News:

RHP Tanner Myatt was promoted to Scranton today. He entered the game tonight, but it wasn’t his Scranton debut.

IF DJ LeMahieu was supposed to be in Somerset this weekend on a rehab stint but it isn’t happening. Who knows when he will be ready?

Scranton (12-6) (Lost to Lehigh Valley, 9-3)

LF Brandon Lockridge0-for-5, RBI, 2 K
Lockridge is in a little 0-for-14 slide.
SS Caleb Durbin1-for-2, RS, 2 BB
.303/.440/.485 in 84 PA (7 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 16 RBI, 13 R, 16 BB, 8 K, 10-for-10 SB). What is there to dislike in that stat line?
CF Everson Pereira0-for-4, 3 K
There has been feast-or-famine in his profile this year. He is hitting .237/.338/.576 in 68 PA, but it comes with a 38.2% K rate.
1B T.J. Rumfield: 2-for-4, 2B (2), RBI
Rumfield is 6-for-15 with two doubles since his promotion. The Yankees do not have tremendous first base depth – if anything happens to Anthony Rizzo, Rumfield could find himself in the mix.
C Carlos Narvaez0-for-3, BB, K
DH Jose Rojas0-for-4, K
3B Jordan Groshans0-for-3, BB
2B Josh VanMeter1-for-3, 2B (2), RS, BB, K
RF Luis Gonzalez: 1-for-4, RS, 2 K

RHP Clayton Beeter: (L, 1-1) 4 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 5 K
Beeter wasn’t throwing hard tonight, maxing at 94.9 and averaging only 91.8.  These are the first runs he has allowed this season (8.1 scoreless here and one scoreless in MLB)
RHP Tanner Myatt2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
When Myatt was drafted, there was talk about how hard he threw. However, injuries have likely sapped him of some of that. He maxed at 92.6 MPH tonight.
RHP Phil Bickford1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Duane Underwood Jr.1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 2 K

Somerset (6-7) (Walked it off against Hartford, 1-0)

1B Ben Rice2-for-4, HR (4), RBI, RS, 2 K
Walk-off homer to break the scoreless tie. Rice has homered in three straight games (7-for-13, double, 3 HR). He is up to .269/.321/.519 in 56 PA. Before these three games, he was hitting .179/.256/.256. Early-season sample sizes!
C Agustin Ramirez0-for-3, 2 K
.244/.370/.711 in 54 PA. He needs to hit the ball over the fence because he isn’t having much luck when he doesn’t (.148 BABIP)
CF Elijah Dunham1-for-2, CS (1), BB
SS Ben Cowles0-for-3
RF Jared Wegner1-for-3, K
.250/.302/.525 in 43 PA. 16 of his 32 career hits have gone for extra-bases (.517 SLG). Last year’s 9th-round pick (Arkansas) is 24 years old.
LF Aaron Palensky0-for-3, K
2B Anthony Seigler1-for-3
3B Alexander Vargas: 0-for-3, K
0-for-11 since his promotion. When you struggle with the bat, a trip to Double-A isn’t often a cure (though pitchers in Double-A tend to have better control/command).
DH Spencer Henson0-for-3, 2 K

RHP Trystan Vrieling: 7.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K (100 pitches)
Vrieling was brilliant tonight. His ERA through three starts is 0.48 in 18.2 IP (5 H, 1 R, 6 BB, 18 K). In case you forgot, this is his debut season. The Yankees sent the 3rd round pick in the 2022 draft (he didn’t pitch in 2023) straight to Double-A, which is not something they ever do. They knew what they were doing.
RHP Kevin Stevens (W, 2-0): 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
6.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 1 BB, 8 K. The 26-year-old was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and missed the entire 2023 season.

Hudson Valley (8-4) (Lost to Aberdeen, 6-2)

SS Roc Riggio0-for-3. RS, BB
If you haven’t seen his remarkable double play from last night, do it.
2B Jared Serna0-for-3, BB
Serna is hitting only .132 (5-for-38) though he does have a 10/6 BB/K.
CF Jace Avina2-for-3, HBP
I am intrigued to see if Avina’s bat can develop beyond the power.  From the scouting reports, he should be able to handle all three outfield positions.
C Jose Rodriguez0-for-3, HBP, 2 K
RF Garrett Martin0-for-3, HBP, K
LF Anthony Hall1-for-2, RBI, RS, SB (1), 2 BB, K
Hall entered this game struggling (2-for-27), so it is nice to see him have a good game.
DH Rafael Flores0-for-2, HBP, 2 K
1B Kiko Romero0-for-3, BB, 3 K
3B Beau Brewer1-for-4, RBI

RHP Sebastian Keane: (L, 0-2) 4 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 1 K
Shrug it off and move on to the next one.
RHP Leonardo Pestana1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
5.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 7 K
RHP Cole Ayers2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 1 K
7.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 10 K
LHP Geoffrey Gilbert1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
5.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K. Nice start to his 2024 campaign.

Tampa (4-9) (Lost to St. Lucie, 3-1)

2B George Lombard Jr.: 0-for-4, 2 K
It is rare for Lombard not to reach base. This is only the second time in 26 career games (29 if you include the 2023 playoffs) that he did not reach base.
3B Enmanuel Tejeda: 2-for-4, 2B (2), 2 K
He has back-to-back games with a double after compiling zero extra-base hits in his first 11 games. He is hitting .306/.333/.347.
SS Roderick Arias0-for-3, RS, SB (3), BB, K
.170/.278/.340 in 54 PA. He is taking some time to adjust, which is hardly surprising. He has stolen three bases in his last four games.
1B Dylan Jasso0-for-4, 4 K
LF Coby Morales1-for-3, 2B (1), RBI, K
CF Willy Montero0-for-3, 2 K
C Manuel Palencia1-for-3, K
RF Tayler Aguilar0-for-3, K
DH Edinson Duran0-for-3

LHP Allen Facundo: (L, 0-1) 3 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 1 K
Facundo hit 96.7 MPH with his 4-seamer (averaged 93.3). His control has been an issue but the Yankees likely feel there is something to work with.
RHP Jordy Luciano1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
RHP Ocean Gabonia2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Gabonia threw a 95.5 MPH sinker tonight. After walking 29 in 53.2 innings last season, he has yet to walk anyone in 5.2 (small sample size) innings this year.
RHP Steven Fulgencio: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K

Yankees MILB 4/12: Agustin Ramirez Hits 5th HR in 6 Games

News:

Nada.

Scranton (8-4) (Defeated Norfolk, 6-4. Even without Jackson Holliday, this lineup is dangerous. Scranton has held them to 12 runs in four games. The Railriders are 4-0 in those games)

CF Brandon Lockridge1-for-5, 2 RS, SB (11), K
Lockridge leads minor league baseball with his 11 stolen bases.
2B Caleb Durbin2-for-5, 2B (6), RBI, SB (8)
.386 (17-for-44, 6 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 15 RBI, 8 R, 11 BB, 3 K, 8-for-8 SB)
DH Everson Pereira2-for-4, HR (4), RBI, 2 RS, SB (2), BB
And, just like that, he is hitting .244 with a .926 OPS. That’s what four solid games (5-for-15, 1 double, 2 HR, 3 BB) will do for you early in the season.
C Carlos Narvaez3-for-5, 2 2B (3), 2 RBI, 2 RS
Hopefully, this is the start of a hot streak.
RF Jose Rojas2-for-4, 2 2B (3), 2 RBI, 2 K
1B Luis Torrens0-for-4, 2 K
SS Jeter Downs: 2-for-4, 2B (1), SB (2), K
10-for-30 with a double, triple, and two home runs. The odds are long but this is fun.
LF Luis Gonzalez0-for-1, 2 BB, K
3B Jordan Groshans1-for-4, 2 K

RHP Will Warren: (W, 1-0) 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 HR, 2 BB, 8 K
Warren allowed a pair of homers in the first inning but settled down from there. He reached 95.8 with his sinker and 95.3 with his 4-seamer. His sinker didn’t generate a whiff, but his slider and 4-seamer did. It will take a while for his stat line to look normal, given his rough Opening Day start in Buffalo: 8.68 ERA (9.1 IP, 10 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 4 HR, 7 BB, 13 K)
RHP Yerry De Los Santos2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
De Los Santos needed a clean outing and he got it. He loves his sinker (71% usage tonight)
RHP Phil Bickford1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
LHP Oddanier Mosqueda (S, 1): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 4 BB, 10 K

Somerset (2-3) (Lost to New Hampshire, 10-8. They imploded in this one (7-1 lead))

C Ben Rice1-for-4, RS, BB
DH Agustin Ramirez1-for-5, HR (5), 2 RBI, RS
Ramirez has five homers in six games. He is at .259/.310/.815 in 29 PA (5 HR, 12 RBI, 5 R, 2 BB, 6 K). A young catcher displaying this power at an advanced level grabs your attention.
1B T.J. Rumfield1-for-5
LF Elijah Dunham1-for-4, HR (1), RBI, RS
It would be nice if Dunham were able to get back on track…
SS Ben Cowles:  2-for-4, RS, K
CF Grant Richardson2-for-4, 2B (2), HR (1), 2 RBI, RS
Richardson has displayed pop in the minors, as seen by his .450 career slugging percentage (846 PA). He hit 18 HR in 92 games between Hudson Valley and Somerset last year.
2B Aaron Palensky1-for-4, 2B (1), RS
RF Jared Wegner2-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, 2 RS
Last year’s 9th-round pick hit four HR in 24 games in his debut season, including a pair in 19 games for High-A Hudson Valley.
3B Max Burt1-for-4

RHP Zach Messinger6.1 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 HR, 1 BB, 8 K
They stretched him into the 7th (92 pitches) and he hit a wall – that is a part of development. He was pitching well until that point.
LHP Ryan Anderson: (L, 0-1) 1.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

Hudson Valley (3-2) (Split a doubleheader against Rome)

Game 1 (Lost, 3-2, in eight (extra) innings)

2B Roc Riggio: 2-for-2, 2B (2), RBI, RS, 2 BB
He added more in Game 2 (how’s that for suspense?)
SS Jared Serna1-for-4, RBI, CS (1)
4-for-14 (2 HR, 3 RBI, 4 R, 4 BB, 2 K, 0-for-1 SB). Serna went 29-for-37 (78.4%) in the stolen base department in 2023.
C Jesus Rodriguez2-for-4, K
6-for-18 (1 double, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 3 RS, 1 BB, 4 K). It is a small sample, but this kid keeps hitting. In 207 career games (854 PA), he is hitting .315/.404/.477.
DH Josh Moylan0-for-4, K
LF Garrett Martin0-for-3, RS, HBP
RF Anthony Hall0-for-4, 2 K
1B Rafael Flores0-for-4, 3 K
3B Kiko Romero: 1-for-2, BB, K
CF Nelson Medina1-for-2, BB

RHP Jackson Fristoe2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
It isn’t that the Yankees lack velocity in their system – but many of their prospects aren’t upper-90s fireballers. Fristoe goes against that trend, as he supposedly has been clocked as high as 101. Control is something he needs to harness.
LHP Ben Shields3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
5.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
RHP Leonardo Pestana1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
RHP Cole Ayers (L, 0-1): 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

Game 2 (Won, 1-0)

2B Roc Riggio0-for-1, 3 BB
Riggio reached base safely in seven of his eight plate appearances today (single, double, five walks)
RF Anthony Hall0-for-3, BB
C Omar Martinez0-for-4, 2 K
I guess he wasn’t going to hit .462 all season.
1B Josh Moylan1-for-3, K
DH Rafael Flores1-for-3, RS, K
SS Alexander Vargas2-for-2, 2B (1), RBI, SB (1), CS (1), BB
It’s all about the bat for Vargas. The glove is good enough to stick at SS.
CF Cole Gabrielson0-for-2, SB (2), BB, 2 K
3B Beau Brewer1-for-3, K
LF Kyle Battle0-for-3, K

RHP Brian Hendry: (W, 1-0) 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K
Signed as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State, tonight marked the 24-year-old’s professional debut. As I have often said, don’t underestimate an undrafted free agent. The draft was shortened and Hendry is on the older side of the spectrum.
RHP Matt Keating: (S, 1)  2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K

Tampa (1-6) (Lost to Dunedin, 11-2. An ugly game that featured six Tampa errors)

3B George Lombard Jr.: 2-for-4, SB (3), RS, K
.238/.529/.238 in 34 PA. That is what you call a small sample size triple slash. Lombard doesn’t have much experience at 3B, and he committed two of the errors. He has five total this season.
SS Roderick Arias0-for-3, HBP, 2 K
.179/.281/.393 in 32 PA.
2B Enmanuel Tejeda0-for-3, SF, RBI, K
His 6-game hitting streak to start the season is snapped.
1B Dylan Jasso1-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, 3 K
A solid 6-for-19 start to his campaign with a double, triple, and four RBI.
LF Coby Morales0-for-2, 2 BB, K
CF Willy Montero0-for-3, BB, 2 K
DH Manuel Palencia0-for-4
RF Daury Arias1-for-3, K
C Edinson Duran1-for-3, 2B (1), RS, K

LHP Allen Facundo: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
RHP Jordy Luciano (L, 0-2): 2.1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
RHP Montana Semmel2.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

Yankees MILB 4/9: Everson Pereira: HR, 4 RBI

News:

Nada.

Scranton (5-4) (Shut down Norfolk, 5-2. Norfolk entered tonight with 100 runs (29 HR) and a 1.104 OPS in nine games. Life is going to become a little easier for opposing pitchers, as Jackson Holliday (the top prospect in baseball) was promoted to MLB after this game)

CF Caleb Durbin2-for-4, 2B (5), 2 RS
The Railriders have used Durbin at five different positions in nine games. He likely will never be known for power, but he does have 44 doubles in 852 career plate appearances. Up-to-the-second numbers: 15-for-32 (5 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 14 RBI, 8 R, 8 BB, 2 K, 7-for-7 SB)
DH Everson Pereira2-for-4, HR (3), 4 RBI, RS
8-for-34 (1 double, 3 HR, 7 RBI, 5 R, 4 BB, 15 K, 1-for-2 SB)
1B Carlos Narvaez0-for-3, BB, K
3-for-23 with 12 walks and eight strikeouts.
LF Jose Rojas0-for-4, K
   LF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-0
C Luis Torrens0-for-4, 2 K
2B Kevin Smith0-for-4, 3 K
RF Luis Gonzalez: 1-for-3, RS, SB (1), BB, K
SS Jeter Downs0-for-3
3B Josh VanMeter1-for-3, RBI, RS, K

LHP Edgar Barclay: (W, 1-0) 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 3 BB, 7 K
Barclay did a nice job shutting them down. He used his 4-seam/change/curve mix to befuddle them, generating 19 swings & misses. With a revolving door of pitchers, Barclay could provide some MLB innings this year.
RHP Cody Morris3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
It would be shocking if Morris didn’t pitch for the Yankees this year. He still has options, so they won’t need to expose him to waivers if they need to send him back down.
RHP Yerry De Los Santos: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
The Yankees must love his sinker, but he is all over the place to start the season.
LHP Anthony Misiewicz: (S, 1) 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
He saved the day.

Somerset (2-2) (Lost to New Hampshire, 8-2)

C Ben Rice0-for-3, SB (2), 2 BB, 3 K
4-for-17 with a homer (first AB of the season). Rice is not known for speed but he did steal 11 bases in 14 attempts last year.
DH Agustin Ramirez1-for-4, 2 RBI, BB, 2 K
.278 (5-for-18; 3 HR, 8 RBI, 3 R, 1 BB, 6 K).
1B T.J. Rumfield1-for-4, 2 K
RF Elijah Dunham0-for-3, BB, 2 K
SS Ben Cowles1-for-4, 2B (3), 2 K
6-for-16 with three doubles
CF Grant Richardson0-for-4, 3 K
LF Jared Wegner0-for-3, SB (1), BB, K
2B Anthony Seigler: 1-for-3, SB (2), RS, BB
Seigler once had a 16 SB season (2022). It was more evidence that he wasn’t your prototypical catcher. Injuries, injuries, injuries.
3B Max Burt0-for-3, RS, HBP, 3 K

RHP Blane Abeyta: (L, 0-1)  4 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
On the bright side, he put up three zeroes after a 5-run first.
RHP Carlos Gomez2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
RHP Luis Velasquez: 2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 3 BB, 3 K
Control has been an issue for Velasquez throughout his career.

Hudson Valley (2-1)

Their game in Rome was postponed. All that traveling for nothing.

They have an 11:00 AM game tomorrow followed by a doubleheader on Thursday.

Tampa (1-3) (Lost to Dunedin, 6-2)

SS George Lombard Jr.: 0-for-1, RS, CS (1), 3 BB, HBP, K
Lombard has a perfectly normal .083 batting average with a .450 on-base percentage.
2B Roderick Arias0-for-5, 5 K
Arias has a triple and a homer in four games but has 12 strikeouts without a walk. Growing pains are going to happen.
DH Enmanuel Tejeda1-for-4, RS, CS (2), BB, K
5-for-16 (all singles) with four RBI and a pair of runs scored. He is 2-for-4 stealing bases. In the rookie leagues, he owned an 85/69 BB/K. We’ll see how that translates as he moves up the ladder.
LF Coby Morales0-for-3, RBI, BB, 2 K
1B Dylan Jasso3-for-4, RBI
Jasso had a pair of 3-hit games in 2023 (his debut season)
CF Jackson Castillo1-for-4, 2B (1), K
RF Willy Montero0-for-4, K
C Edinson Duran1-for-4, 2 K
3B Brenny Escanio1-for-4, K

RHP Gabriel Barbosa: (L, 0-1)  4.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K
The 22-year-old Barbosa, formerly a Rockies prospect, was selected in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft. He used six pitches tonight, with the curve (36%) being the most prominent.
RHP Osiel Rodriguez2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Doesn’t it feel like Rodriguez has been around forever? The 22-year-old maxed out at 95.9 with his sinker and 95.4 with his 4-seamer. There could be something to work with, but he has to start moving.
RHP Steven Fulgencio2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
The 23-year-old didn’t pitch well in the rookie leagues over the past few years but gets a shot with Tampa. In his small professional sample size, he has generated a strong GB%. That makes sense as he came out of the bullpen throwing sinkers (maxing out at 95.8)

Yankees MILB 4/7: Caleb Durbin is on Fire!

News:

Spencer Jones continues to be out of action with his stiff neck. Get that man a sleep number bed and memory foam pillow.

Scranton (4-4) (Defeated Syracuse, 7-2)

2B Caleb Durbin: 2-for-2, 2 2B (4), SF, 4 RBI, RS, 2 SB (7), 2 BB
The Yankees received a player with legitimate MLB potential (perhaps as a super-utility type) for Lucas Luetge. Luetge is someone they revived after years of not pitching in MLB. He is now 13-for-28 (4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 14 RBI, 6 R, 8 BB, 2 K, 7-for-7 SB)
CF Everson Pereira0-for-4, SB (1), HBP, 4 K
Pereira is 6-for-30 with a whopping 15 strikeouts.
DH Carlos Narvaez0-for-1, 3 BB
Narvaez is 3-for-20 but has 11 walks.
LF Jose Rojas0-for-4, BB, 2 K
C Luis Torrens1-for-4, 2B (1), RS, K
3B Kevin Smith1-for-3, 2 RS, HBP, K
SS Jeter Downs0-for-3, RS, HBP, K
6-for-19 with a triple and a homer.
RF Luis Gonzalez0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, K
1B Jordan Groshans1-for-3, 2 RBI, RS, BB

RHP Cody Poteet4.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 HR, 1 BB,7 K
The 29-year-old is on the 40-man roster. If you like “kitchen sink” types, you will like him. He featured six pitches today, averaging 93 with his 4-seamer and 92.1 with his sinker. He allowed two homers in the fifth inning.
RHP Phil Bickford: (W, 1-0) 0.2 IP, 2 H, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Alex Mauricio2.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
Mauricio was cutter-heavy today (57% of his 37 pitches). He also featured a 4-seamer and a slider.  The 27-year-old pitched to a 3.14 ERA and 45/19 K/BB in 48.2 innings for Somerset in 2023.
RHP Duane Underwood Jr.: (S, 1)  1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Somerset (2-1) (Shut down Richmond, 8-0)

DH Ben Rice2-for-4, RS, SB (1), BB, 2 K
Rice is 4-for-14 with a homer.
C Agustin Ramirez1-for-5, HR (3), 3 RBI, RS, 2 K
Ramirez has homered in three straight games to start his campaign. He is 4-for-14 with six RBI.
1B T.J. Rumfield0-for-1, RS, SB (1), 3 BB
2B Anthony Seigler0-for-3, RS, SB (1), BB
He has the athleticism to play an up-the-middle position. Can he stay healthy and hit a little? We’ll see.
LF Jared Wegner0-for-3, RS, K
CF Grant Richardson0-for-3, RBI, RS, BB, K
SS Ben Cowles3-for-4, 2B (2), 3 RBI
Cowles was their 10th-round pick in the 2021 draft (Maryland). The Yankees have played him at 2B/SS/3B (plus two outs in left field)
RF Aaron Palensky0-for-2, RS, BB, HBP
3B Max Burt0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K

RHP Trystan Vrieling: (W, 1-0) 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K
This is his professional debut (yes, he was thrown right into the Double-A fire). He was drafted in the third round of the 2022 draft but missed the 2023 season. He did make five starts (10.2 innings) in the Arizona Fall League.
RHP Tanner Myatt2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Health and control have been issues for the 6’7″ Myatt, who has 232 strikeouts in 194 innings.
LHP Ryan Anderson1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
The 6’6″ lefty pitched well last season (2.17 ERA in 37 games).
RHP Danny Watson1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Watson could make his MLB debut in 2024, even though he isn’t on the 40-man roster. He is a tall kid with a funky motion who pitched to a 1.58 ERA in 62.2 IP with an 82/25 K/BB in 2023.

2B Roc Riggio1-for-5, 2B (1), K
SS Jared Serna: 1-for-3, HR (2), RBI, RS, 2 BB, K
After going 28 games without a home run at this level, he has homered in back-to-back games.

3B Alexander Vargas0-for-2, SF, RBI, BB
CF Nelson Medina0-for-4, SB (1), 2 K

RHP Cam Schlittler: (W, 1-0) 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K
The 6’6″ 23-year-old was drafted in the 7th round of the 2022 draft (Northeastern). He pitched to a 4.11 ERA and 50/21 K/BB over 46 innings last year (FCL/Tampa/Hudson Valley)
LHP Ben Shields2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Signed as a non-drafted free agent, this is the 25-year-old’s professional debut. I know nothing about him beyond the fact that he pitched for George Mason in 2023. The baseball-reference linker will take you to a pitcher from the early 1900s. That Shields went 4-0 with an 8.27 ERA in his brief career.
LHP Geoffrey Gilbert (S, 1): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Gilbert was their 13th-round pick in the 2022 draft.

Tampa (1-2) (Lost to Fort Myers, 5-2)

SS George Lombard Jr.: 0-for-3, RS, SB (2), 2 BB
The 18-year-old is 1-for-11 but has drawn four walks and stolen a pair of bases. This is his first 2024 start at shortstop, as they switched Lombard and Arias today. We’ll see more of that.
2B Roderick Arias0-for-4, 3 K
Nobody said baseball is easy, teenager! He is 3-for-13 with a triple, a homer, and seven strikeouts. You should expect a mixed bag from a teenager making his full-season debut. The goal is for the good to outweigh the bad.
3B Enmanuel Tejeda1-for-4, RBI, RS, SB (2), K
Speaking of teenagers, Tejeda will play this entire year as a 19-year-old. He is 4-for-12 with four runs batted in.
LF Coby Morales: 0-for-4
1B Dylan Jasso1-for-4, 3B (1), RBI
CF Jackson Castillo0-for-2, SB (1), 2 BB, K
DH Willy Montero0-for-3, SB (2), BB, K
The 19-year-old is 2-for-10 with a double, two walks, and two stolen bases.
RF Tayler Aguilar: 1-for-3, 2B (1), SB (1), BB, K
C Tomas Frick1-for-3, BB
Drafted in the 15th round in the 2023 draft out of North Carolina, this represents his professional debut.

RHP Josh Grosz: (L, 0-1) 3.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 6 K
This is Grosz’s professional debut. The 21-year-old was drafted in the 11th round out of East Carolina. He throws a sinker/slider/change, a mix the Yankees like to work with.
RHP Yoljeldriz Diaz: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 0 K
RHP Ocean Gabonia1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
According to Savant, Gabonia used a 5-pitch mix among his 11 pitches. There could be an error in the tracking, of course. His fastball/sinker was in the lower 90s.
RHP Montana Semmel2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
Semmell maxed out at 94.4 MPH, equally mixing his 4-seamer and slider. He had some long-term buzz about him when he was drafted out of high school in 2019 and is still young enough (22) to tap into that potential.

Yankees MILB 4/4: Everson Pereira Goes Yard

News:

The Yankees released the Somerset/Hudson Valley/Tampa rosters this week. I don’t read too much into that, to be honest. The Yankees have their reasons for placing players at certain levels.

The biggest surprise, to me, was Keiner Delgado not being assigned to a full-season level. While it is true that George Lombard Jr. and Roderick Arias are occupying spots in Tampa, they could have found playing time for Delgado.

However, it isn’t a life sentence. Delgado will get to Tampa soon enough is my guess.

Tomorrow begins the insane portion of the season, as Somerset, Hudson Valley, and Tampa are scheduled for their openers. The weather looks chilly but fine for Somerset and Hudson Valley (road against Bowling Green (Kentucky)), while Tampa’s trip to Fort Myers should be met with plenty of sunshine.

RHP Zach Messinger is announced as the starter for Somerset, while RHP Sebastian Keane and LHP Cade Smith are listed as the scheduled starters for Hudson Valley and Tampa. For Smith, it will be the 2023 draftee’s professional debut. Keane pitched mostly out of the bullpen in 2023 but made a pair of starts for Low-A Tampa.

Scranton (2-2) (Lost an ugly game (especially in the 9th) to Syracuse, 5-4)

CF Greg Allen0-for-5, 4 K
2B Caleb Durbin: 4-for-5, 3B (1), RBI
Not known for his power, three of Durbin’s first eight hits have gone for extra bases (two doubles, one triple).
DH Carlos Narvaez0-for-4, 3 K
RF Everson Pereira1-for-3, HR (2), RBI, 2 RS, BB, K
It is easy to toss a prospect out of your mind when their first taste of MLB doesn’t go well. I wouldn’t dismiss Pereira quickly, especially since many people weren’t surprised by his initial struggles. For now, he is MLB depth and a potential trade piece.
1B Jose Rojas1-for-4, K
C Luis Torrens1-for-3, SF, RBI, K
Torrens’ first official game back with the organization since September 5, 2016. Since he is on the 40-man, Narvaez is the default #3 catcher but Torrens (with his MLB experience) is also in the mix.
SS Jeter Downs: 2-for-4, 3B (1), HR (1), RBI, RS, 2 K
I can’t be the only one hoping that Downs earns at least a cup of coffee with the big club. This home run went an impressive 409 feet.
LF Luis Gonzalez1-for-4, K
3B Jordan Groshans: 1-for-4, 2B (2), RS

LHP Edgar Barclay4.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Barclay survived the Rule 5 over the winter. Last season, he pitched well as a reliever for Somerset before struggling as a starter for Scranton. Barclay doesn’t throw hard (topped out at 91.6 MPH tonight, averaged 89.8) so he relies more on commanding his stuff than overpowering you. He also featured a changeup (41%) and curve (16%) tonight. He generated nine whiffs amongst the 19 swings when he threw the changeup.
LHP Anthony Misiewicz: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
RHP Duane Underwood Jr.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K
Underwood threw a changeup that registered 91.3 on the gun. That could be an error.
RHP Yerry De Los Santos1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
De Los Santos threw a 94.9 MPH sinker – that is not likely an error.
LHP Clayton Andrews: (L, 0-1) 0.1 IP, 1 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 0 K
Ooph.
LHP Oddanier Mosqueda0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K
He had a chance to stop the bleeding, but couldn’t do it.

Yankees MILB 3/31: Brandon Lockridge: 2 Hits, BB, SB

News:

LHP Nick Ramirez was designated for assignment after the Yankees promoted LHP Tanner Tully to the big league club. Just in case you missed the news, Tully replaces Clayton Beeter, who will now get regular rotation turns in Scranton until he is needed again. While I think Beeter’s future might be in the bullpen, there isn’t a need to put him there permanently now. Plus, who says I’m right? I am wrong more than I am right. I am just not afraid to admit it.

“Why Tully?”

It’s simple: 1. He has a starter’s pedigree, so he can eat innings out of the bullpen as needed; 2. He is expendable. If he has to pitch four innings out of the bullpen, he can be designated for assignment the next day. That sounds harsh, but for many MLB players, this is their way to earn some paychecks.

Not that Will Warren was available anyway, but you aren’t going to add him to the 40-man roster for this purpose.

RHP Yorlin Calderon was added to the roster with the need for an arm in Scranton. He made an appearance in today’s game. Further information is in his blurb below.

Ramirez being designated for assignment may seem like a surprise. In 32 games (40.2 IP) for the big club last year, he compiled a solid 2.66 ERA and 2.94 FIP. With the need for relief arms throughout baseball, I will be surprised if he isn’t claimed. However, I’ve been surprised many times before.

Scranton (2-1) (Lost to Buffalo, 4-3)

RF Luis Gonzalez1-for-5, 3B (1), RBI, RS, 3 K
DH Caleb Durbin1-for-3, RBI, 2 BB, SB (2)
Durbin is off to a 4-for-12 start with a pair of doubles, 4 RBI, and two stolen bases.
1B Carlos Narvaez0-for-4, BB, K
The Yankees need first base depth. Narvaez played 16 games at the position last year and started a game today. As stated the other day, he is also the organization’s #3 catcher.
CF Everson Pereira1-for-4, K
2B Kevin Smith0-for-4, 2 K
3B Jordan Groshans: 2-for-4, 2B (1)
SS Jeter Downs1-for-3, RS, SAC
C Josh Breaux1-for-4, K
LF Brandon Lockridge: 2-for-3, 2B (2), RBI, RS, BB, SB (4)
Lockridge is off to a 3-for-6 start with a pair of doubles, three walks, and four stolen bases.

RHP Cody Morris2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K
The Yankees acquired the 27-year-old Morris from Cleveland for Estevan Florial. He owns a 3.41 ERA in 31.2 career MLB innings (13 games/5 starts) with a 32/18 K/BB. As expected, Florial made the Guardians’ Opening Day roster (just like when he was with the Yankees, he would need to go through waivers if they decide to send him down).
LHP Oddanier Mosqueda0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K
RHP Yorlin Calderon3.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR
Calderon is 22 years old and hadn’t pitched above High-A until today. In 2022, in his Low-A debut, Calderon tossed a 7-inning no-hitter. This could be a situation where Scranton needed an arm for a day, and he was readily available to provide that. Calderon doesn’t appear on many (if any) Top 30 lists, but he did receive a blurb on the Fangraphs list last year, where he was praised for his breaking ball and potential to add velocity.
LHP Clayton Andrews: (L, 0-1)  1.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
The organizational debut for Andrews, who the Yankees acquired for minor league RHP Joshua Quezada. He didn’t have any fun in his MLB debut last season (27.00 ERA in four games), but he pitched well for their Triple-A affiliate. Walks appear to be an issue, but he did touch 95.4 on the gun today. That’s valuable for an LHP if you can figure out everything else.
RHP Dennis Santana: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Santana allowed two inherited runners to score.

Yankees MILB 3/30: Cody Poteet: 4 Scoreless Innings

News:

I have nothing interesting to report.

Scranton (2-0) (Defeated Buffalo, 4-3)

CF Greg Allen0-for-4, K
3B Caleb Durbin1-for-4, 2B (2), K
I mentioned Durbin’s speed and versatility yesterday. What did I leave out? His insane (in a good way) strikeout rate. In 22 games for Hudson Valley, he struck out at a 9.3% rate. “OK, so what did he do in the higher minors? Haha! Bet it wasn’t so great!” The answer: 4.6% in 47 games for Somerset. Amongst all minor leaguers with at least 250 PA, his 6.2% combined rate was second to 27-year-old Ernie Clement (Toronto).  FYI: I wrote that blurb before his fourth AB, where…of course, he struck out.
C Carlos Narvaez0-for-3, RS, BB, K
LF Everson Pereira1-for-3, RS, CS (1), BB, K
Pereira hit a 102.7 MPH bullet for an out. The hit? 30.2 MPH.
1B Jose Rojas1-for-2, 2B (1), 2 RBI, RS, 2 BB
PR Brandon Lockridge0-for-0, RS, SB (3)
  1B Jordan Groshans0-for-0
SS Kevin Smith2-for-4, RBI, K
Game-winning RBI single in the 9th.
RF Luis Gonzalez1-for-3, 2B (1), SF, RBI, K
Is Brian Cashman trolling us by signing a player named Luis Gonzalez?
DH Josh Breaux0-for-3, 2 K
Breaux has 67 home runs in 316 minor league games. The power isn’t in question – the rest of his offensive game (plus his position) are questions.
2B Josh VanMeter0-for-3, 2 K
VanMeter is a depth utility player. His bat hasn’t done much in his MLB career (.206/.293/.347 in 841 PA). His 39.00 ERA in three games doesn’t make him the ideal Isiah Kiner-Falefa replacement either.

RHP Cody Poteet: 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
Poteet, signed as a free agent over the winter, is on the 40-man roster. The 29-year-old has 19 games of MLB experience (9 starts) between 2021-2022 with the Marlins. He posted a 4.45 ERA. Today, he featured his 4-seamer (27%), sinker (29%), and change (27%) while mixing in some curves (10%) and sweepers (6%).
RHP Duane Underwood Jr.:  2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 2 HR
Underwood is no stranger to professional baseball, given that his debut was in 2012. Players like him tend to bounce around, but the Yankees are only his third organization (Cubs, Pirates). He has 144 games of MLB experience between 2018-2023, compiling a 4.63 ERA (4.08 FIP) in 144 games. Not bad for a depth guy.
LHP Anthony Misiewicz: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
If you hung around for the entire 2023 season (you are forgiven if you didn’t), you will recognize Misiewicz, who pitched in three games for the big club.
RHP Yerry De Los Santos: (W, 1-0) 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HR, 0 BB, 0 K
De Los Santos was a dark horse to make the MLB roster at the beginning of spring training. He (typically) keeps the ball on the ground, which we know Matt Blake loves.

Yankees MILB 3/29: Opening Day!

Notes:

C/1B Ben Rice appears to be starting his campaign in Somerset. The left-handed slugger hit .327/.401/.648 in 222 PA for Somerset last year, so hopefully this is temporary.

Scranton (1-0) (Defeated Buffalo, 12-8)

CF Greg Allen: 2-for-4, HR (1), RBI, 3 RS, 2 SB (2)
Allen starts the season off with a lead-off home run. If they need a player in a pinch, he will be on the list of early call-ups.
2B Caleb Durbin: 2-for-5, 2B (1), 3 RBI, RS, HBP, SB (1)
Durbin is somewhere on the MLB depth chart. He has speed and versatility. Last season, he stole 36 bases in 69 games (an injury kept him out of action for a while)
C Carlos Narvaez: 2-for-4, 2B (1), SF, 3 RBI, BB
Narvaez is often overlooked, but stop doing that. He is our #3 catcher, after all.
LF Everson Pereira2-for-6, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, 3 K
Pereira didn’t have a great start to his MLB career but is in the #5 outfielder mix.
DH Jose Rojas: 1-for-4, HR (1), RBI, RS, 2 BB, 2 K
The veteran utility type hasn’t played in MLB since 2022. He is depth.
SS Kevin Smith1-for-5, BB, K
Smith has MLB experience but isn’t much of a bat.
1B Jordan Groshans: 0-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K
Groshans was a Pipeline and Prospectus Top 100 prospect as recently as 2022 (Baseball America listed him in 2021). In 17 games for the 2022 Marlins, he hit .262/.308/.311 with a homer. They are taking a flyer here.
3B Jeter Downs2-for-4, 2 RS, SB (1), BB, K
A main piece in the trade that sent Mookie Betts to the Dodgers, Downs has yet to live up to the hype. Like with Groshans, you take a flyer. If it doesn’t work out, you have some minor-league depth.
RF Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-3, 2B (1), 2 RBI,  2 RS, 2 BB, 2 SB (2)
I often talk about Lockridge having a Tim Locastro-like ceiling, and I still believe that. Will he ever be a Yankee? I don’t know – but, just like Oliver Dunn (former Yankees prospect who made the Brewers’ roster out of spring training), he can find opportunities elsewhere in the future.

RHP Will Warren0.1 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, HR
A tough first outing, but we’ll let it slide given the weather. It would be a surprise if he didn’t make his MLB debut this season. He would require a 40-man roster move.
LHP Josh Maciejewski2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Maciejewski has been in the system since 2018, filling a variety of roles. Last year, however, he was a reliever for all 30 of his appearances.
LHP Oddanier Mosqueda: (W, 1-0)  1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Danny Santana1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
I don’t even need to describe who Santana is – this line does it for you.
RHP Ron Marinaccio2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
It would be great if Marinaccio got back on track.
LHP Nick Ramirez: 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Ramirez is on the 40-man and could be on the shuttle this season.

Yankees MILB 9/22: Edgar Barclay Ks 8

News:

The Yankees have promoted RHP Yoendrys Gomez from Somerset to the big league roster. He is the first player to ever be promoted directly from Somerset to the big leagues. Keep in mind that Somerset didn’t become an MLB affiliate until 2021.

Gomez, who has been on the 40-man roster since 2020, has dealt with injuries in his career. He has logged only 275 innings since his debut season (2017), and this year’s 65.1 innings are his personal best.  In those innings, he has a 3.58 ERA (3.83 FIP) with a 28.5% K and 13.5% BB.

According to Fangraphs, this is Gomez’s last option year. That said, we thought 2022 was Deivi Garcia‘s last option year – only to discover that MLB granted the Yankees an additional option for 2023. That isn’t done out of the goodness of their hearts – criteria need to be met and all that jazz.

If it is his final year, a big winter/spring is coming up. Let’s get this out of the way: Gomez is not going to be in the 2024 Opening Day rotation. Cross that thought out of your mind – if he isn’t traded, his best bet to make the squad in 2024 would be out of the bullpen. He has the stuff that would carry well in the bullpen. There are questions about whether he can handle a starter’s workload anyway.

The AFL rosters were announced today. The Yankees will be playing for Mesa but you aren’t going to see any of their top names playing. It is good to see that RHP Trystan Vrieling (#17 prospect according to Pipeline) will get some work in. He was drafted in 2022 but was unable to make his debut in 2023 due to injury.. The other players on the list aren’t going to jump out at you, though IF Caleb Durbin had a standout 2023 season that was marred by an injury. RHP Kevin Stevens got his feet wet in 2022 but didn’t appear in 2023. He was an undrafted free agent signing. UTIL Ben Cowles played mostly at Hudson Valley in 2023, promoted to Scranton after the Renegades were eliminated. While there isn’t much buzz around RHP Nolberto Henriquez, I checked out Savant after he was promoted to Tampa. He was throwing hard sinkers, which is something the current Yankees’ regime seems to like. It doesn’t shock me that they want to give him more innings after he tossed only 30.2 in 2023 with mixed results. OF Nelson Medina dealt with injuries for most of the season. He is getting some extra at-bats in Scranton as their season comes to a close – perhaps the promotions to Scranton should have hinted to us who was going to Arizona. It doesn’t seem like a coincidence that Cowles and Medina were promoted and are now on their way to Arizona. RHP Baron Stuart was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Pitt. Unlike others on the list, he threw a good number of innings (100.2) in his debut professional season. I guess it is a good sign for him that they want him to throw more before he shuts down for the year.

Scranton (71-75; 37-35 in the second half) (Lost to Syracuse, 4-3, in ten innings). As for the last two games of the season, the weather up in Syracuse is actually not forecasted to be bad this weekend. There could be some rain on Sunday evening/night, but hopefully, it stays away during the afternoon.

C Carlos Narvaez0-for-4, BB, K
RF Franchy Cordero1-for-5, RS, K
3B Jamie Westbrook2-for-4, 2B (20), BB, 2 K
The minor league veteran reaches 20 doubles/20 home runs for the first time in his career.
DH Andres Chaparro1-for-5, 2B (24), RBI, 3 K
Chaparro is up to 88 RBI. The last Yankees’ prospect to reach 90 RBI was Peter O’Brien, who drove home 96 runs back in 2013. O’Brien would eventually play in 72 MLB games (most recently with the Marlins in 2019), hitting .209/.275/.434 with 11 home runs in 200 plate appearances.
1B Mike Lamb1-for-4, RS
SS Jesus Bastidas1-for-3, HR (12), 2 RBI, RS, BB, K
Bastidas’ 2023 numbers are pretty much right in line with his 2022 numbers. Between here and Somerset, he has 15 homers, 44 RBI, 64 runs, 40 walks, and 105 strikeouts in 445 plate appearances, Last year, playing only for Somerset, he hit .240/.323/.427 in 453 plate appearances (18 HR, 55 RBI, 56 R, 38 BB, 115 K, 11-for-18 SB)
LF Aaron Palensky0-for-4, 2 K
  LF Ben Cowles: 0-for-0
I think Cowles was brought into the game in the 10th inning to give Scranton an extra infielder when the winning run was on third with nobody out.
2B Wilmer Difo0-for-4, 2 K
CF Nelson Medina2-for-4
Medina is 5-for-36 since his promotion. He started off 0-for-19, so it is nice to see him get some hits before the season comes to a close.

LHP Edgar Barclay: 5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 8 K
A solid final effort for Barclay, who is pitching to a 5.89 ERA in 44.1 IP since his promotion to Scranton. Prior to that, he compiled a 1.32 ERA in 34 IP for Somerset. All of his games (11) were relief appearances for Somerset, while his ten appearances for Scranton are all starts. He doesn’t throw hard (max fastball was 90.7 tonight, and he averaged 88.7), but he has solid secondary offerings that allow him to be a tantalizing MLB prospect. I don’t expect him to be a starter, but there is no harm in developing him as a Swiss-army knife type of pitcher.
LHP Matt Krook: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
LHP Josh Maciejewski1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
RHP Michael Gomez: (L, 2-6)  1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

At this level: 4.44 ERA in 77 IP (69 H, 48 R, 38 ER, 15 HR, 38 BB, 80 K). A 4.44 ERA in the offense-fest known as Triple-A is not so bad in 2023. In August, he pitched to a 3.67 ERA and 28/10 K/BB over 27 innings.
LHP Anthony Misiewicz1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
LHP Nick Ramirez1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

2B Caleb Durbin2-for-4, 2B (10), HBP, 2 CS (7)
Durbin has a 5-game hitting streak (including three multi-hit games). He is hitting ..290/.368/.426 in 174 PA at this level and .305/.402/.416 in 271 PA overall (15 doubles, 1 triple, 3 HR, 21 RBI, 44 R, 26 BB, 36 K, 36-for-44 SB). After spending most of the season at 2B/3B, Durbin has mixed in a few games at SS lately.
DH Ben Rice0-for-5, 4 K
I don’t care if you are Ben Rice or Don Mattingly – this game always finds a way to humble you.
CF Spencer Jones0-for-3, BB
Since promotion: 3-for-18 with a homer, three walks and seven strikeouts. Overall, he is hitting .263/.334/.445 in 481 PA (28 doubles, 4 triples, 14 HR, 61 RBI, 65 R, 45 BB, 140 K, 36-for-45 SB)
C Agustin Ramirez1-for-4, RS, 2 K
.242/.303/.352 in 99 PA since his promotion. He is now on a 7-game hitting streak (10-for-28)
RF Elijah Dunham1-for-4, 2B (12), RS, K
Scranton is playing with a short roster – I don’t know why Dunham hasn’t been promoted to fill one of those slots. He has 24 doubles, 15 HR, and 30 stolen bases between here and Scranton.
1B Mickey Gasper2-for-2, RBI, BB, SB (6), CS (1)
Gasper is another player who can easily fill in a slot at Triple-A. He plays C/1B and even has a few games at 2B under his belt this season.
LF Jeisson Rosario: 1-for-3, SF, RBI, K
3B Max Burt0-for-3, BB, K
SS Eduardo Torrealba1-for-3, K

Sauer’s highest strikeout output since he struck out 17 on August 22, 2022. His season for Somerset: 3.68 ERA in 51.1 IP (39 H, 22 R, 21 ER, 6 HR, 21 BB, 65 K)
LHP Josh Maciejewski: (S, 1) 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Between Hudson Valley/Somerset/Scranton: 1.93 ERA in 37.1 IP (31 H, 10 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 10 BB, 42 K)

Hudson Valley (67-57; 28-30 in the second half) (Lost to Wilmington, 3-2)

DH Anthony Hall1-for-3, RS, BB, K
SS Jared Serna1-for-4, RS
Serna’s hitting streak reaches 11. He is hitting .289/.341/.373 in 91 PA since his promotion and .284/.348/.464 in 534 PA overall. His K% is 10.99 since his promotion so these pitchers are not fooling him.
LF Christopher Familia1-for-4, RBI, K
Familia has 11 doubles, 21 HR, and 60 RBI in 63 games this season.
C Antonio Gomez: 2-for-3, SF, RBI
2B Ben Cowles1-for-3, BB

1B Spencer Henson1-for-4, K
CF Cole Gabrielson0-for-3, HBP, K, CS (1)
RF Jared Wegner1-for-4, 2B (4), K
Wegner being 24 is what makes you nervous – if he continues to hit, you won’t worry about it as much. There are successful MLB careers that started late (Kevin Millar didn’t get his first extended look until he was 27, for example)
3B Marcos Cabrera0-for-3, K

RHP Zach Messinger: (L, 1-9) 3.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K

RHP Shane Gray1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K

Tampa (59-63; 28-28 in the second half) (Defeated St. Lucie, 7-5)

SS George Lombard Jr: 0-for-2, RS, 2 BB
Lombard is only 1-for-8 at this level (very small sample size!) but has drawn five walks. He has reached base in all 11 of his professional games.
2B Roc Riggio0-for-4, K
CF Jackson Castillo2-for-4, HR (1), 3 RBI, RS, 2 K
