This qualifies as a rather productive night. Peraza is hitting .262/.350/.477 in 294 PA (9 doubles, 2 triples, 14 HR, 36 RBI, 45 R, 28 BB (9.5%), 54 K (18.4%), 15-for-19 SB). Peraza has 754 career plate appearances in Triple-A. That is criminal if you truly believe in a prospect – and, if you don’t, it is criminal that you didn’t take advantage of his value.

I would rather not see the four strikeouts, but the power is nice. He is hitting .250/.340/.413 in 106 PA at this level and .237/.329/.430 in 389 PA overall (23 doubles, 14 HR, 63 RBI, 39 R, 43 BB (11.1%), 91 K (23.4%), 7-for-7 SB). 
LF Everson Pereira: 2-for-4, 2 HR (8), 2 RBI, 3 RS, BB, K
Pereira’s second 2-HR game in 2023. Overall, between here and Somerset, he is hitting .302/.370/.551 in 338 PA (17 doubles, 2 triples, 18 HR, 64 RBI, 50 R, 30 BB (8.9%), 97 K (28.7%), 10-for-12 SB). For Scranton, he is hitting .316/.379/.559 with eight homers and 33 RBI. I will tell anyone who listens that there are good things in his profile and not-so-ideal things in his profile. It doesn’t matter – let him get some well-deserved reps against big-league pitching. Nobody is asking him to be a savior at this point.

Yankees MILB 8/5: Jasson Dominguez: 3 Hits (2 Doubles)

News:

The Yankees have signed RHP Zach McAllister to a minor league contract. If that name sounds familiar, he was the Yankees’ third-round pick in the 2006 draft. Yes, he was drafted three years before the Yankees’ latest title.

Eventually traded to Cleveland for OF Austin Kearns in 2010, McAllister has enjoyed a 480-game MLB career, posting a 4.09 ERA (100 ERA+) over 591.2 innings. He hasn’t pitched in MLB since 2018 with the Tigers.

He has bounced around baseball since then. His latest stint was earlier this season, when he pitched to a 4.93 ERA in 38.1 innings for the Diamondbacks Triple-A squad in Reno.

For the Yankees, he is here for depth purposes. They just lost veteran Tanner Tully, so McAllister may just take his slot.

The Yankees have purchased RHP Jesus Liranzo from Lancaster (Independent). He was assigned to Somerset.

The 28-year-old started his professional journey in 2012. He owns a career minor league record of 11-18 with a 4.38 ERA in 212 games (15 starts). Liranzo has bounced all around the minors, having played for the Braves, Orioles, Pirates, Diamondbacks, Tigers, and Nationals. Fangraphs placed him on the “others to watch” in their minor league report on the Diamondbacks last year. He was given praise for his high-octane fastball and spin rates. I can see why the Yankees were interested.

Last season was the only season when his batting average tanked, but he did contribute a personal-best 11 home runs. If you remember, he hit a walk-off home run during spring training.

.289/.351/.491 in 305 PA. He ran into a bit of a wall at the end of June, finishing 30-for-114 (.263). However, he did hit seven doubles and five home runs while driving home 21 runs from the leadoff position.

Escanio, who is only 20, finishes June with a .294/.370/.424 line that featured both of his home runs this season. I won’t try to convince you that he is a top prospect – just showing you that a 20-year-old may be adjusting to a level.
C Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-5, 2 RBI, K
His 2-run single with two outs in the bottom of the 9th finished off the comeback. Rodriguez is now hitting .294/.377/.423 in 224 PA with 25 walks (11.2%) and 32 strikeouts (14.3%). He finishes June 31-for-85 (.365). As stated a few days ago, he should get some more catching opportunities (in addition to his work elsewhere on the diamond) with Agustin Ramirez‘s promotion.

.275/.389/.466 in 226 PA. A mundane ending to a solid month, where he hit .284/.373/.545 with six home runs. In May, he hit .338/.477/.471 with one home run. After a slow April (which came on the heels of receiving one AB before being injured in 2022), he has essentially destroyed this level.

C Ben Rortvedt‘s stint on the IL didn’t last long as he was in the Scranton lineup tonight. The Railriders are now carrying four catchers (Rortvedt, Rodolfo Duran, Carlos Narvaez, and Josh Breaux). They can use the 1B and DH slots to help distribute some at-bats (Rortvedt, Narvaez, and Duran all played tonight), but they also need to make sure these players get in their time behind the plate as well.

SS Oswald Peraza missed his third straight game this evening. OF Everson Pereira (Somerset) is still out of the lineup, as well.

Since they had a need for additional bodies in Scranton, UTIL Max Burt was promoted to Scranton. Drafted in the 28th round in the 2018 draft out of Northeastern, Burt is an organizational utility player. This isn’t his first stint in Scranton (played 36 games back in 2021). When I see a player like Burt, I think of someone you are going to see coaching, scouting, or whatever they wish to do in baseball some day.

LHP Carlos Rodon started his rehab stint in Somerset tonight.

IF Caleb Durbin, who is off to an impressive start in his first season with the Yankees’ organization, was placed on the injured list today for Somerset. Between Hudson Valley and Somerset, Durbin is hitting .292/.394/.400 in 216 plate appearances with 29 stolen bases in 33 attempts. He has struck out in only 6.9% of his plate appearances, which is second in all of MILB (if I don’t include players in the DSL). Only Cesar Prieto (Double-A, BAL) has a lower rate (6.8%).

Durbin was part of the package (along with RHP Indigo Diaz) that the Yankees acquired from the Braves for LHP Lucas Luetge this past winter. The Braves designated Luetge for assignment back in May and outrighted him down to Triple-A once he cleared waivers.

It will be noted that he is 23 years old and played 36 games here in 2022 – but he is doing what he needs to do to advance up the chain.

3.77 ERA (31 IP, 24 H, 14 R, 13 ER, 4 HR, 11 BB, 38 K). He started the season slow (7.94 ERA in seven April games) but has been tough to hit since.

Arias breaks out of his slump and hopefully, this starts a new upward trend for the ultra-talented teenager.

Montero had a .592 OPS in 2021 and a .606 OPS in 2022 (both seasons played in the DSL). Some may have already started to sour on him, but he is off to a hot start in 2023.

Tejeda is hitting .345/.583/.586 in 48 plate appearances with 16 walks. I keep trying to tell you that the FCL and DSL are crazy as heck leagues.

Cruz has 14 RBI in his last two games. He is 10-for-37 with 19 RBI in nine games. Good luck finding anything that even resembles a reliable scouting report, but if he keeps this up, we’ll start seeing some.

Palencia’s first three hits of 2023 (3-for-14). He has yet to strike out in 2023 and has 25 in 301 career PA (8.3%).

This is a rehab appearance for the 26-year-old. Last season, for Scranton, he went 9-0 with a 3.42 ERA in 68.1 innings with a 33.3% K and 11.1% BB. The biggest issue was the 11 home runs allowed.
