Yankees MILB 9/15: Richard Fitts Ks 11

News:

I have nothing interesting to report.

Scranton (69-71; 35-31 in the second half) (Defeated Buffalo, 4-2)

RF Franchy Cordero1-for-3, 2B (13), 3 RBI, BB, K
3B Jamie Westbrook0-for-4, 3 K
C Carlos Narvaez0-for-2, 2 BB, 2 K
DH Andres Chaparro0-for-4, 2 K
1B Jake Lamb2-for-4, HR (5), RBI, RS
SS Jesus Bastidas0-for-2, RS, BB, HBP
LF Aaron Palensky0-for-3, RS, HBP, 3 K
Palensky’s Triple-A debut.
CF Nelson Medina0-for-4, 2 K
2B Wilmer Difo0-for-1, RS, 2 BB, K, 2 SB (22)

RHP Mitch Spence: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K
4.50 ERA (156 IP, 155 H, 86 R, 78 ER, 28 HR, 50 BB, 150 K)
RHP Zac Houston: (W, 3-1) 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
RHP Aaron McGarity (S, 4): 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Somerset (82-53; 40-27 in the second half) (Defeated New Hampshire, 3-1)

SS Trey Sweeney0-for-4, BB, 2 K
1B Ben Rice0-for-3, 2 HBP, K, CS (3)
Rice has 11 HBP in 71 games. He is hitting .324/.396/.638 in 212 PA at this level.
C Agustin Ramirez0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K
At this level: .211/.276/.309 in 30 games. I stand by what I said when he was first promoted: I am not concerned about him struggling here.
CF Spencer Jones: 2-for-4, HR (2), 2 RBI, RS, K, SB (7)
Jones has 47 extra-base hits (28 doubles, 4 triples, 15 HR) and 42 stolen bases (53 attempts). Tonight’s HR was hit off of LHP Ricky Tiedemann, the top prospect in the Blue Jays system (Pipeline). No, he won’t be in the mix for the CF job in 2024 with Jasson Dominguez out – but a hot first half will get people talking.
DH Mickey Gasper0-for-3, RS, BB, K, SB (8)
LF Jeisson Rosario0-for-3, BB
3B Eduardo Torrealba1-for-4, RBI, 2 K
RF Grant Richardson0-for-3, 2 K
2B Max Burt1-for-2, BB, 3 SB (21)
Burt sets personal bests for both stolen bases in a game and in a season.

RHP Richard Fitts: (W, 11-5) 6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 11 K
Fitts sets a new personal best for strikeouts in a game (he struck out exactly ten batters three times this season). This is probably his last regular season start of 2023 unless they give him one up in Scranton. If it is, he posted a 3.48 ERA in 152.2 IP with a 163/43 K/BB. I would say that is something to build on and Fitts should be in the 2024 mix at some point.
RHP Tanner Myatt: (S, 7)  2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR

Hudson Valley (70-62; 31-35 in the second half)  (Defeated Jersey Shore, 3-2, to win the best-of-3 series. They will play Greenville (BOS) in the championship series. It starts on Sunday)

3B Ben Cowles2-for-3, 3B (1), RBI, RS, BB
A nice night for Cowles, who hit .254/.356/.393 in 444 regular-season plate appearances. He stole 23 bases in 27 attempts.
2B Jared Serna0-for-3, BB, CS (1)
LF Jesus Rodriguez0-for-3, BB
Rodriguez went 4-for-10 with two walks and only one strikeout in the series.
DH Christopher Familia0-for-4, K
1B Spencer Henson0-for-4, 3 K
C Rafael Flores2-for-3, 2 2B (2), 2 RS, K
Flores went 4-for-8 with two doubles and three walks in the series.
RF Anthony Hall1-for-3, 2 K
SS Alexander Vargas0-for-2, SF, RBI
CF Cole Gabrielson0-for-1, 2 BB

LHP Brock Selvidge: (W, 1-0) 6.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K
Selvidge pitched to a 3.45 ERA in 127.2 IP during the regular season between Tampa and Hudson Valley (116 H, 56 R, 49 ER, 5 HR, 35 BB, 137 K). He compiled a 25.5% K and 6.5% BB. In 2022, his BB% was 9.4. He is developing the way you would want him to develop and there isn’t a long line of left-handed starting pitching prospects in the system.
RHP Cole Ayers0.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K
LHP Geoffrey Gilbert: (S, 1)  1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
In a key moment in the 8th, Gilbert came out of the bullpen with the bases loaded and one out. He promptly struck out back-to-back hitters.

Tampa (61-69; 30-34 in the second half)

Their season is over.

FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs)

They lost to the Braves in the championship series. Their season is over.

DSL Yankees (33-19)

Their season is over, as they missed the playoffs by a half-game.

DSL Bombers (27-26)

Their season is over.

Yankees MILB 9/3: George Lombard Jr.: 4 Hits, 3 RBI

News:

No news to report.

Scranton (65-65; 31-25 in the second half) (Lost to Rochester, 10-3)

LF Estevan Florial0-for-5, K
Last 6 games: 3-for-28.
2B Jamie Westbrook1-for-5, HR (20), RBI, RS
Westbrook reaches 20 HR for the first time in his professional career.
C Carlos Narvaez: 3-for-4, 2B (9), HR (9), RBI, 2 RS, BB, CS (1)
Narvaez has 11 HR between here and Somerset, matching his personal best for HR in a season set last year. The difference? He hit .194/.327/.383 last season and is hitting .257/.387/.425 this season.
RF Franchy Cordero2-for-4, K
1B Rodolfo Duran1-for-2, 2 BB
CF Brandon Lockridge1-for-3, RBI, BB, K
.301/.380/.421 in 300 PA between here and Somerset (14 doubles, 4 triples, 3 HR, 26 RBI, 38 R, 33 BB, 67 K, 38-for-42 SB)
3B Jake Lamb1-for-4
DH Michael Hermosillo0-for-4
SS Jesus Bastidas1-for-3

RHP Mitch Spence: (L, 8-8)  5 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 2 HR
4.66 ERA (143 IP, 147 H, 82 R, 74 ER, 26 HR, 47 BB, 135 K)
LHP Matt Krook1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
0.92 ERA (29.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 0 HR, 20 BB, 49 K). I bet the Yankees wish they had more than 28 slots in September, as Krook would be a good candidate to allocate some innings to.
RHP Zach McAllister0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Michael Gomez0.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
RHP Aaron McGarity0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

Somerset (76-49; 34-23 in the second half) (Lost to Portland, 8-3)

DH Caleb Durbin: 2-for-3, 2B (11), HR (4), RBI, RS
Durbin hits a lead-off home run. I am not sure why he was pulled from the game – something to monitor, given his injury earlier this season. Anyway, he has five multi-hit games in his last nine games. In that stretch, he has six doubles, a home run, and four stolen bases.
  PH-DH Aaron Palensky0-for-2, K
1B Ben Rice0-for-3, BB, 2 K
Since his 4-for-6, 2 HR, 5 RBI night: 2-for-16, 1 BB, 9 K. Baseball is a funny sport.
C Agustin Ramirez1-for-4, 2 K
Since promotion: .232/.290/.333 in 107 PA. Overall, he is hitting .281/.374/.471 in 460 PA (21 doubles, 18 HR, 68 RBI, 69 R, 58 BB, 78 K, 11-for-15 SB)
CF Elijah Dunham0-for-4, K
2B Mickey Gasper1-for-3, RS, BB
RF Grant Richardson1-for-4, RS, K
LF Jeisson Rosario1-for-4, K
3B Max Burt2-for-4, RBI, SB (15)
SS Eduardo Torrealba1-for-4

RHP Yoendrys Gomez: (L, 0-3)  3.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, HR
3.47 ERA (57 IP, 43 H, 24 R, 22 ER, 6 HR, 29 BB, 66 K). After making 15 starts in 2022, he is up to 17 starts in 2023. He struggled a bit today but did get up to 79 pitches, which is a new career high.
RHP Bailey Dees1.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Danny Watson1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Between here and Hudson Valley: 1.53 ERA (59 IP, 29 H, 12 R, 10 ER, 5 HR, 25 BB, 79 K). Watson had a 5.55 BB/9 in 2022. In 2023, it is now 3.81. Furthermore, he isn’t sacrificing strikeouts for control (12.05/9 in 2023; 10.18/9 in 2022).
RHP Alex Mauricio1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
2.91 ERA (46.1 IP, 38 H, 16 R, 15 ER, 4 HR, 14 BB, 42 K). This is his 10th consecutive scoreless outing.

Hudson Valley (68-58; 29-31 in the second half) (Lost to Wilmington, 5-3)

SS Jared Serna1-for-4, RS
Serna extends his hitting streak to 13 (17-for-55; .309). He has 18 strikeouts in 100 PA (18%) at this level and 85 strikeouts in 543 PA overall (15.7%). While that is a slight uptick, it does show you that this level is not overwhelming him at all.
3B Ben Cowles1-for-4, 3B (2), 2 RBI, RS, K
DH T.J. Rumfield0-for-3, SF, RBI, K
I believe this is his first full game since his rehab stint began – next up is a full game in the field. The season has a few weeks left, and he will spend the majority of that in Somerset I would think.
1B Spencer Henson0-for-4, K
C Rafael Flores0-for-3, BB
RF Jared Wegner1-for-4, K
13-for-43 at this level.
CF Cole Gabrielson0-for-3, BB, K
2B Luis Santos0-for-2, BB, SB (9)
LF Kyle Battle1-for-3, RS, 2 K

RHP Baron Stuart: (L, 2-3) 5.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR
LHP Joel Valdez1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
RHP Shane Gray1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K

Tampa (60-64; 29-29 in the second half) (Lost to St. Lucie, 7-4)

SS George Lombard Jr: 4-for-5, 2B (1), 3 RBI, RS, K
Lombard has reached base safely in all 11 of his professional games (including playoffs). This is his first professional 4-hit game and he is now 5-for-13 with five walks and four strikeouts at this level and 10-for-25 (.400) with two doubles, ten walks, six strikeouts, and a 4-for-4 stolen base rate overall (if I include his FCL playoff stint, he is 13-for-36 (.361))
DH Roc Riggio0-for-3, BB, K, SB (3)
.193/.395/.228 at this level with two doubles, 18 walks, and 18 strikeouts (23.7%)
  PH Josh Moylan0-for-1, K
RF Jackson Castillo0-for-5, 3 K
C Omar Martinez2-for-3, 2 BB, K
Martinez has a 15.1% BB (25.7% K, which he will probably want to take down a bit)
2B Brenny Escanio0-for-4, BB
1B Dylan Jasso0-for-3, BB, K
CF Nelson Medina1-for-3, RS, BB, K, CS (2)
LF Daury Arias0-for-2, 2 RS, BB, HBP
3B Beau Brewer0-for-2, BB, HBP

RHP Sebastian Keane: (L, 0-1)  2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
Keane’s first professional start (the concept isn’t foreign to him as he started in college). He tossed 45 pitches and featured a five-pitch mix (4-seam, slider, curve, sinker, change)
RHP Yoljeldriz Diaz0.1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
RHP Alex Bustamante0.1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Montana Semmel2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
4.66 ERA (19.1 IP, 21 H, 14 R, 10 ER, 3 HR, 6 BB, 19 K).
LHP Geoffrey Gilbert2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
3.09 ERA (46.2 IP, 35 H, 17 R, 16 ER, 1 HR, 26 BB, 57 K). Not a bad first taste of professional ball. He maxed out at 93.8 with his fastball today.
RHP Matt Keating1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
3.64 ERA (59.1 IP, 58 H, 30 R, 24 ER, 5 HR, 33 BB, 86 K). Technically, this isn’t his first taste of professional ball as he threw one FCL inning in 2022.
RHP Nolberto Henriquez1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K

FCL Yankees (35-22; 1-2 in the playoffs)

They lost to the Braves in the championship series. Their season is over.

DSL Yankees (33-19)

Their season is over, as they missed the playoffs by a half-game.

DSL Bombers (27-26)

Their season is over.

Yankees MILB 8/9: Everson Pereira Homers, Drives Home 5

News:

I have nothing to share.

Scranton (51-56; 17-16 in the second half) (Knocked off Syracuse, 9-5)

SS Oswald Peraza0-for-1, 3 RS, 4 BB
We all know that Peraza had a 4 BB game for the MLB squad this year – this is his first such game in his minor league career.
C Austin Wells: 3-for-5, 2B (6), 2 RBI, 2 RS
Wells has six doubles in 16 games since his promotion (20 doubles in 74 games between here and Somerset). He is up to .273 with a .753 OPS in 16 games since his promotion.
RF Everson Pereira2-for-4, HR (6), 5 RBI, 2 RS, BB
Pereira has 30 RBI and 22 runs scored in 26 games since his promotion. Between Scranton and Somerset, he is hitting .309/.371/.559 with 16 homers and 61 RBI in 72 games. Furthermore, Pereira has seven multi-hit games in his last 11 games played.
3B Andres Chaparro0-for-4, BB, 2 K
DH Franchy Cordero1-for-4, RBI, 2 K
2B Jamie Westbrook1-for-4, 2B (13)
LF Michael Hermosillo0-for-4, 2 K
1B Jake Lamb0-for-3, RS, BB, 2 K
CF Brandon Lockridge1-for-4, RS, 2 K

RHP Will Warren5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR
Since promotion: 5.24 ERA (55 IP, 55 H, 41 R, 32 ER, 11 HR, 29 BB, 57 K)
RHP Aaron McGarity1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Zach McAllister: (W, 1-0)  1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Greg Weissert: (S, 8)  1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, HR

Somerset (60-42; 18-16 in the second half) (Lost to Binghamton, 4-2)

CF Jasson Dominguez2-for-4, 2B (14), 2 SB (35)
Dominguez increases his hitting streak to eight, including four straight multi-hit games. During this stretch, he is 15-for-34 (.441/.500/.647; 4 doubles, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 6 R, 4 BB, 6 K, 6-for-7 SB). Overall, his line is up to .245/.365/.396 in 455 PA (14 doubles, 2 triples, 13 HR, 58 RBI, 71 R, 72 BB (15.8%), 118 K (25.9%), 35-for-42 SB (83.3%)). He is certainly earning that spot atop the Yankees’ prospect list.
1B Ben Rice0-for-3, BB, 2 K, SB (4)
Rice didn’t show much interest in stealing bases in 2021-2022, swiping five in 90 games. He has eight in 41 games this year, including four in his last five games.
C Agustin Ramirez1-for-4, K
Ramirez’s first Double-A hit. A common question I receive is about his defense. If he continues to hit like he is doing in 2023, you won’t care much about his defense. That said, I haven’t read anything that indicates that he will need to move off of the catching position.
LF Elijah Dunham0-for-4
2B Anthony Seigler2-for-4, HR (2), RBI, RS, K
Seigler’s first career start at 2B. Recently, Mickey Gasper and Aaron Palensky made their first career starts at second base.
DH Josh Breaux1-for-3, HR (5), RBI, RS, BB, K
Crazy that Seigler and Breaux, once considered the future behind the plate, homer on the same day with neither playing the catcher position. Anyway, Breaux hit 13 HR in 59 games for Somerset last year – should surprise nobody that he has five in 16 games this year.
SS Jesus Bastidas1-for-3, BB, K, CS (1)
3B Max Burt0-for-3, HBP, K, CS (5)
RF Aaron Palensky0-for-3, K

RHP Yoendrys Gomez (L, 0-2): 4.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 2 HR
Gomez was done in by a pair of 2-run homers. He reached 64 pitches today.
RHP Bailey Dees2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Just like with Danny Watson, don’t be surprised if Dees’ strikeout rate falls in his first taste of Double-A. Eventually, Watson started to bring his up.
RHP Alex Mauricio2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
3.46 ERA (39 IP, 36 H, 16 R, 15 ER, 4 HR, 12 BB, 38 K)

Hudson Valley (57-45; 18-17 in the second half) (Lost to Jersey Shore, 9-2)

CF Spencer Jones0-for-4, CI, 2 K
SS Jared Serna1-for-4, K
DH Christopher Familia0-for-3, BB
C Rafael Flores0-for-4, 2 K
2B Ben Cowles1-for-3, 2B (15), RS, BB, K, SB (16)
Cowles increases his hitting streak to seven. He is hitting .257/.348/.403 in 351 PA.
3B Jesus Rodriguez: 3-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, 2 RS
4-for-7 in his first two games at this level. He had 28 multi-hit games for Tampa (84 games) and is one of the most consistent hitters in the system this season (.303/.383/.432)
RF Anthony Hall0-for-2, CI, BB, K
1B Spencer Henson1-for-4, 2B (16), RBI, K
LF Jared Wegner: 2-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, K
Wegner doubled in his first High-A AB. Though he was drafted this year, he is already 24 years old so they are smart to aggressively move him to High-A.

RHP Baron Stuart: (L, 1-1)  6 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 2 HR
Stuart threw 89 pitches. There is always that fine line with prospects – you want them to get their full work in but you don’t want them to feel overwhelmed. To Stuart’s credit, he tossed a scoreless 6th after giving up five runs in the 5th.
RHP Mason Vinyard1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR
Since promotion: 3.60 ERA (20 IP, 17 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 2 HR, 15 BB, 20 K)
RHP Harrison Cohen: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
Since promotion: 1.99 ERA (31.2 IP, 22 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 2 HR, 13 BB, 38 K)

Tampa (49-54; 18-19 in the second half) (Lost to Clearwater, 10-8)

3B Kiko Romero: 2-for-6, 2B (1), RBI, RS, K
Romero is 6-for-26 at this level with a pair of multi-hit efforts.
LF Coby Morales0-for-4, RS, 2 BB, 2 K
C Omar Martinez0-for-4, RS, 2 BB, 3 K
1B Josh Moylan1-for-3, 2 RS, 2 BB, K
Moylan is 5-for-16 (HR, 3 RBI, 6 R, 6 BB). He should play well at this level.
SS Brenny Escanio2-for-5, 2 RBI, RS, 2 K
RF Garrett Martin1-for-2, 2B (2), RBI, RS, HBP, 2 BB, K
4-for-19 with a pair of doubles.
CF Tayler Aguilar0-for-2, SF, RBI, HBP, BB
DH Cole Gabrielson0-for-4, RBI, RS, BB
2B Beau Brewer3-for-5, RBI
Brewer has three straight multi-hit games (five in his last seven games)

RHP Cam Schlittler4.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
He allowed three runs in three innings in his first appearance at this level, so nice improvement.
RHP Ocean Gabonia1.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
RHP Anderson Munoz: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, HR
The 25-year-old is on a rehab stint (he missed all of 2022). Tonight, he was hitting as high as 95.9 on the gun.
RHP Huey Morrill: (L, 0-1) 1.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, HR
RHP Montana Semmell: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, HR

FCL Yankees (25-19)

Day off.

DSL Yankees (27-14)

Day off.

DSL Bombers (20-23-1) (They completed a suspended game from July 13th…it ended in a 5-5 tie)

2B Gabriel Terrero2-for-4, RBI, K
CF Gabriel Lara1-for-1, RS, 2 BB, SB (9), CS (4)
The totals retrofit back to the date the game started. Lara actually has 15 stolen bases in 21 attempts and is hitting .256/.395/.408 in 157 PA

RHP Joshawn Lampson5.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K

Yankees MILB 5/14: Spencer Jones Continues to Mash

News:

Oswald Peraza is officially on a rehab assignment down in Scranton. I tend to doubt they will activate him back on to the MLB roster when the assignment is over with, as long as everyone is healthy. We’ll see.

Scranton (17-22) (Lost to Omaha, 6-3)

CF Estevan Florial1-for-5, 3 K
SS Oswald Peraza1-for-4, HR (1), RBI, RS
Peraza homered in his first rehab at-bat. I know I sound like a broken record but people get nervous when top prospects are pulled: For as long as I can remember, the Yankees never have players play full games on their first day back from injury. Don’t worry about it unless they tell us otherwise.
  SS Wilmer Difo0-for-1, K
DH Ben Rortvedt0-for-5, K
3B Andres Chaparro1-for-4, BB, K
By trade, Chaparro is a masher. However, he does own an 11.5% BB rate this season. In the majors, that would be considered above league average. He is hitting .268/.353/.543 in 156 PA.
LF Elijah Dunham0-for-3, 2 BB, 3 K, SB (7)
.218/.359/.336 in 145 plate appearances. There is no doubt that it has been a struggle for Dunham (other than showing off some plate discipline). I still believe he will break out of it.
RF Franchy Cordero2-for-4, 2B (5), RS, 2 K
C Rodolfo Duran2-for-4, K, SB (1)
.295/.345/.551 in 84 plate appearances. This is his first stolen base since 8/27/18. He has never stolen two bases in a season.
1B Billy McKinney2-for-3, HR (4), RBI, RS, BB
2B Jesus Bastidas0-for-4, RBI, BB, K

RHP Mitch Spence5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR
5.17 ERA (38.1 IP, 39 H, 27 R, 22 ER, 16 BB, 34 K, 9 HR). Last three starts: 18 IP, 15 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 15 K
LHP Matt Krook1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
Krook’s first appearance since 4/26 is an impressive one. On the season, he owns a 1.42 ERA in 12.2 IP (4 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 9 BB, 26 K)
RHP Colten Brewer1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
RHP Deivi Garcia1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

LHP D.J. Snelten0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 2 HR
RHP Barrett Loseke0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Somerset (20-12) (Lost to Portland, 3-1)

SS Trey Sweeney1-for-4, RBI
.268/.410/.392 in 122 plate appearances (6 doubles, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 18 R, 22 BB, 24 K, 6-for-8 SB)
LF Jasson Dominguez0-for-4, 2 K
vs. RHP: 13-for-74 (.176) with 23 walks and 23 strikeouts. All eight of his extra-base hits are off RHP.
vs. LHP: 4-for-16 (.250) with five walks and five strikeouts.
DH Everson Pereira0-for-4, K
1B T.J. Rumfield2-for-3, BB, K
.210/.320/.407 in 97 PA.
3B Tyler Hardman1-for-4, K
.230/.324/.471 in 102 PA. Both Rumfield and Hardman are corner infield college bats who can have some use either to the Yankees or in a trade scenario. But both need to hit because the defensive value is limited.
2B Caleb Durbin0-for-4
RF Jeisson Rosario1-for-3, BB, K
C Anthony Seigler0-for-3, BB, K
Seigler has nine walks in eight May games.
CF Brandon Lockridge1-for-2, 2B (4), RS, BB, SB (14)
.300/.366/.457 in 82 plate appearances. Lockridge is 14-for-16 in the stolen base department.

RHP Blane Abeyta: (L, 2-1)  6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 10 K
Abeyta’s first career 10+ strikeout effort.
RHP Alex Mauricio2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K

Hudson Valley (21-12) (Defeated Aberdeen, 8-3)

CF Spencer Jones: 3-for-5, 2 2B (11), 2 RBI, 2 RS, SB (9)
Jones has eight hits in three games after missing three games for reasons unknown. He has 20 extra-base hits in 120 plate appearances. He hasn’t drawn a ton of walks, but when you mash like this, why do you have to? I don’t think it is due to a lack of plate discipline.
SS Alexander Vargas1-for-5, HR (6), 2 RBI, RS, 3 K
Vargas is two away from matching his personal best for HR in a season (8 in 100 games last season)
C Antonio Gomez1-for-4, RBI, RS, HBP
1B Rafael Flores1-for-4, BB
Flores increases his hitting streak to five (8-for-21)
LF Aaron Palensky0-for-4, BB, 2 K
Palensky is in a little 2-for-19 slump.
DH Grant Richardson0-for-4, 3 K
2B Ben Cowles: 2-for-4, 2B (4), K
Cowles was hitting .188 after games of 4/28. He is 14-for-36 (.389) since and is now hitting .274.
RF Aldenis Sanchez1-for-4, 3B (3), RS, K
3B Marcos Cabrera3-for-4, RBI, 2 RS
Cabrera’s first 3-hit game since 8/24/19.

RHP Drew Thorpe: (W, 2-1) 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR
4.26 ERA (31.2 IP, 31 H, 19 R, 15 ER, 3 HR, 14 BB, 37 K). Strong comeback after a 3.2 IP, 6 R outing last time out.
RHP Carlos Gomez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
5.40 ERA (16.2 IP, 15 H, 10 R, 10 ER, 2 HR, 13 BB, 26 K)
RHP Harrison Cohen: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, HR

Tampa (11-21) (No-hit by Ft. Myers, 3-0. The Tarpons allowed a pair of unearned runs in addition to their offensive ineptitude. A game you just want to forget about)

DH Jared Serna0-for-4
A bit of a slump (3-for-22) has dropped his line to .327/.407/.519 in 118 plate appearances. Given that triple slash even after this recent slide, you can safely say that he was never going to be able to maintain his early pace.
CF Anthony Hall0-for-3, 2 K
Hall’s 10-game hitting streak is snapped.
C Agustin Ramirez0-for-3
.222/.369/.370 in 103 plate appearances. In his first two years, he had a 27/67 BB/K ratio in 289 plate appearances. In his last two years, the ratio is 42/45 in 300 plate appearances.
LF Daury Arias0-for-3, 2 K
Arias broke up the perfect game in the 8th inning by reaching first base on a third strike wild pitch.
SS Brenny Escanio0-for-3, 2 K
RF Nelson Medina0-for-3, K
Medina is 22 and this is his first taste of full-season ball. Ideally, you want to get him to start moving up. Yes, I recognize how the canceled 2020 season impacted the progression of many prospects.
While his triple slash is excellent (.291/.386/.488), you do want to see the 30.7% K rate come down somewhat before you move him along.

1B Jesus Rodriguez0-for-3, K
The 21-year-old has a solid batting average in his minor league career (.309 in 116 games) and is excellent in the BB/K ratio category (57 walks, 62 strikeouts). Power? He only has seven career home runs but does have 31 doubles.
2B Brett Barrera0-for-3, K
3B Ronny Rojas0-for-3

RHP Baron Stuart: (L, 0-2)  4 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 3 K
RHP Yorlin Calderon1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
2.40 ERA (15 IP, 13 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 HR, 5 BB, 20 K). I don’t know if his permanent role is that of a reliever, but he is doing a solid job this year.
LHP Geoffrey Gilbert1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
2.25 ERA (16 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 11 BB, 23 K).
RHP Matt Keating1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
It is hard to imagine Keating being here for long. His ERA drops to 1.23 with a 23/8 K/BB ratio over 14.2 innings. The walks are high, but seven of them were compiled in April (he walked at least one batter in all six April appearances)
