This is his first career 4 SB game (never stole more than two in a game prior to today). Dominguez is up to .238 with a .747 OPS (12 doubles, 2 triples, 13 HR, 56 RBI, 69 R, 71 BB, 118 K, 34-for-41 SB). In August, he is 10-for-25 (.400) with a pair of doubles and a homer. This follows a very strong July, so it is becoming safer to say that he has adjusted and matured.

.260/.330/.452 in 394 PA (24 doubles, 4 triples, 12 HR, 50 RBI, 51 R. 36 BB (9.1%), 119 K (30.2%), 26-for-34 SB). He is in another down period after a hot stretch – his season is filled with peaks and valleys. The end result is fine – he has things to work on.

Cowles has hit safely in all five of his August games and in 13 of his last 14 games.
C Agustin Ramirez: 2-for-4, K
Ramirez has been so good that a simple 2-for-4 feels routine. Trust me, it isn’t. Since promotion: .384/.430/.714 in 121 PA. Overall: .297/.399/.517 in 353 PA with 16 homers and 58 RBI. He has six multi-hit games in his last ten games played. 
DH Rafael Flores: 0-for-4
SS Alexander Vargas: 2-for-4, 2B (11), RS, CS (6)
.208/.256/.354 in 347 PA. Last season, down in Tampa, Vargas hit .203/.271/.311 in 431 PA. I don’t know why anyone would want to get into the prospect-watching game. It can be so tedius as you sit and hope for someone to break out.

Sanchez has hit three home runs in his last seven games. This is a kid who has *8* career home runs in 1,375 plate appearances. Baseball!

Yankees MILB 8/4: Richard Fitts: 7 Shutout Innings

News:

The Yankees have released LHP Tanner Tully, who is on his way to Korea.

Tully was signed to a minor league contract this past winter after spending time in the Cleveland organization. Down in Scranton his season, he pitched to a 5.64 ERA in 91 innings with a 77/26 K/BB. He did his job as a Triple-A innings eater and found employment overseas. Good luck to him.

SS Trey Sweeney is on the injured list down in Somerset. While I didn’t see the play, someone informed me that he injured himself stealing a base the other night. In 429 plate appearances this season, he is hitting .250/.366/.419 (119 wRC+) with 13 home runs, 49 RBI, 62 runs, and 16 stolen bases. Let’s hope he can get back before the season ends (September – so plenty of time)

Familia has homered in back-to-back games and has six homers in his last nine games. I just have to keep repeating his HR totals because it is amazing: Familia is up to 18 HR and 47 RBI in 45 games between here and Tampa.

Ramirez has homered in back-to-back games and seven times in his last 12 games. When he was promoted, he was hitting .245/.384/.397 in Tampa. The numbers didn’t jump out at you – but it goes beyond that sometimes. For Hudson Valley, the line is .380/.427/.722. Nuts.

It is easy to say to give the kid a chance in the big leagues. I don’t think the Yankees are doing that after 77 PA – but he is displaying a lot of pop in his first taste of Triple-A after showing more than enough pop in Double-A. One part of your brain is screaming at you to be patient while the other one screams “I WANT TO SEE THIS KID, DARNIT!”

Wells is hitting .267 (8-for-30) since his promotion. The issue is the 13 K in 35 PA (37.1%). It’s a small early sample size, of course.

Beeter entered tonight with a 3.26 ERA since his promotion. It is now 7.04 (23 IP, 23 H, 19 R, 18 ER, 6 HR, 13 BB, 25 K). What can you do? Sometimes, it simply isn’t your night. It is always important to note that, in an MLB setting, Beeter isn’t giving up 11 runs tonight. They would have pulled him at some point. In MILB, they want him to get his pitches in and evaluate. It doesn’t excuse the poor outing – it is just a different mindset sometimes when it comes to player development.

Dominguez is 30-for-94 (.319) in July. You can pick any prospect you wish in this system – Dominguez remains the one you want to see explode a bit. Even if he isn’t a Juan Soto-level unicorn, he can still become a top-of-the-order force for years to come. Nobody in the system has the combination of upside + closeness to MLB that he does.

I would be surprised if the midseason MLB Pipeline list doesn’t have him somewhere on the Yankees’ midseason list. He has shown enough bat to get attention.

Garcia has homered in three straight games. He is hitting .197/.317/.364 in 205 PA with 31 walks (15.1%) and 75 strikeouts (36.6%). He is known as a three outcomes prospect – but he has been unable to get the K% down to any kind of reasonable rate (plus, you need at least a bit of a hit tool in the lower minors even if one projects it won’t be there in the majors)

This was bound to happen at some point, right? He was on the kind of roll that hardly anyone can sustain forever. Anyway, this jumps his ERA from 2.08 to 2.70 (103.1 IP, 78 H, 35 R, 31 ER, 9 HR, 32 BB, 128 K). He allowed eight total runs in his last nine starts entering tonight (four runs in his last eight starts). One start doesn’t kill a prospect’s value if indeed Thorpe is being discussed in trades. It is simply bad timing.

The Yankees have released a pair of veteran relievers.

RHP Michael Feliz, signed on May 18th, was released from his contract. He reportedly will sign with a team in Japan. The veteran pitched to a decent 3.38 ERA in only 13.1 innings with a 15/5 K/BB.
LHP D.J. Snelten was also cut. Snelten, who hadn’t pitched since making 20 starts with the Chicago Dogs (Independent) in 2019, was an interesting story but he simply did not perform. He compiled a 7.50 ERA in 30 games with Scranton, with a 48/42 K/BB over 36 innings.

RHP Bailey Dees was promoted from Hudson Valley to Somerset today, reuniting with former bullpen mate Danny Watson to form a towering duo. Dees, who stands 6’8″, pitched to a 1.74 ERA and 59/15 K/BB ratio over 41.1 innings. He was the Yankees’ 18th-round pick in the 2021 draft out of Penn State.

Serna has three multi-hit games in his last four games played and 24 multi-hit games this season (74 games played). He is hitting .288/.347/.486 in 343 PA with 14 home runs, 51 RBI, and 54 runs. As of this writing, he leads the FSL in home runs and runs batted in and is third in runs scored.
LF Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-5, 2 HR (6), 3 RBI, 2 RS, K
Rodriguez’s first career multi-HR game. He hit six home runs in 94 games between 2019-2022 (remember that there wasn’t a season in 2020) and has six in 64 games this season. Rodriguez is hitting .291/.369/.439 in 256 PA. I will always say it: I don’t care what your prospect ranking is – if you hit, I pay attention. The Yankees have used him at C (11 starts)/1B (12)/3B (34)/LF (3).

Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2020, he started his professional career in Somerset in 2021 – skipping all levels.

.200/.280/.356 in 50 plate appearances. After hitting for a solid average in the DSL in 2019 (a league that is hard to take seriously – but everyone has to start somewhere), he hasn’t been able to replicate that since moving to the States. As you may suspect, much of that is due to a too-high K rate.

It should be noted that he didn’t start much in college (11 of his 51 games pitched), so this is still a relatively new thing for him.

This is one way to break out of a slump. This jumps his average right back up to .300 with a .960 OPS (started the night at .255 with a .815 OPS)

Rice has reached base safely in all 11 games played this season. He has 17 walks in 11 games. He is a 24-year-old C/1B out of Dartmouth who should move to Somerset soon enough.

Perhaps Gomez has taken a step back in prospect circles – but catchers especially can develop at different rates. So far, he is hitting pretty well to start off 2023.

Richardson is off to a tough start, so it is nice to see him hit one out. He hit 16 home runs (including ten at this level) in 2022.

Hampton allowed four runs in the first inning before settling in. This is the 21-year-old’s first professional season and they are being aggressive with him. Thus far, he has struck out an impressive 24 batters in 13.2 innings. He was their 6th-round pick in the 2022 draft out of Texas Tech.
