Yankees MILB 7/23: Spencer Jones Homers

News:

UTIL Caleb Durbin has started a rehab assignment in Tampa. He hasn’t played since May 23rd, so he missed two months after being HBP. Before that unfortunate injury, he hit .299/.413/.458 in 215 PA with 20 stolen bases in 22 attempts. Is there time for him to make an MLB impact? Sure, but I doubt the Yankees are counting on that.

OF Jasson Dominguez will begin another rehab stint with Scranton. He has missed so much time this season that I don’t know how much we should count on him, but the Yankees may not have much choice. Do they try to acquire a veteran outfielder or hope Dominguez is good to go by mid-to-late August?

C/Everything Jesus Rodriguez returned to the Somerset lineup tonight after missing a month due to an undisclosed injury.

Scranton (52-42) (Doubled Up Worcester, 8-4)

CF Brandon Lockridge2-for-5, 2B (13), 2 RBI
2B Jorbit Vivas0-for-4, BB, 2 K
C Agustin Ramirez2-for-5, 3 RBI, CS (1), K
Ramirez has six 3+ RBI games this season. If the Yankees are willing to talk about Jasson Dominguez (I doubt they will trade him) and Spencer Jones (it will take a perfect deal), you can bet that they will discuss Ramirez.
SS Oswald Peraza0-for-4, RS, SB (13), BB, 2 K
1B T.J. Rumfield1-for-3, RS, SB (3), BB
Rumfield has struggled in July (9-for-40). Hopefully, this gets him going.
DH J.C. Escarra0-for-3, RBI, HBP
RF Oscar Gonzalez3-for-4, 2 RS
3B Kevin Smith1-for-4, RS, 2 K
LF Taylor Trammell1-for-2, 2B (12), RBI, 3 RS, 2 BB, K

LHP Thomas Pannone: (W, 1-0)  5.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, HR
A nice organizational debut for Pannone.
RHP Yerry De Los Santos: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
LHP Victor Gonzalez0.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
RHP Alex Mauricio0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K
RHP Jack Neely0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Interestingly, they used Neely for one batter. Yes, that can be a development thing: Come in and air it out for one batter rather than come in for a full inning or two. Anyway, since his promotion: 8.1 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 10 K.
LHP Anthony Misiewicz: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Somerset (47-44) (Defeated Portland, 7-5)

CF Spencer Jones2-for-4, HR (11), 2 RBI, RS, SB (19), K
If you wonder why other organizations want Jones, this is why. He has unlimited power potential and speed. He has 30/30 type of potential but has rough edges to fix. I would trade him in the right deal, but that “right deal” isn’t for a random relief pitcher. He is hitting .241/.317/.412.
DH Jesus Rodriguez0-for-4, K
Rodriguez’s first game since June 22nd. It hurts that he missed a month, but at least he wasn’t done for the year. One of the organization’s best hitters before his injury, he is hitting .322/.406/.496 in 266 PA between here and Hudson Valley.
SS Ben Cowles1-for-4, 2B (25)
Cowles is second in the Eastern League in doubles.
1B Tyler Hardman0-for-2, 2 RS, 2 BB, K
C Rafael Flores0-for-4, 3 K
RF Elijah Dunham1-for-3, RS, BB, K
Dunham has a 6-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 23 of his last 24 games.
LF Grant Richardson3-for-4, 2B (20), HR (6), 3 RBI, RS
Richardson has four 3+ hit games this season. Last year, he hit 7 doubles and 18 HR in 92 games. This year, he has 20 doubles and 6 HR in 69 games.
2B Anthony Seigler0-for-3, RBI, RS, SB (18), BB, K
Seigler is 18-for-20 in the stolen base department.
3B Alexander Vargas1-for-4, 3B (3), RBI, RS

LHP Ben Shields4.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 7 K
A mixed-bag kind of night for Shields. Since promotion: 17 IP, 11 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 8 BB, 20 K. Minus a rough emergency appearance for Scranton, Shields has been one of the organization’s most consistent performers this season.
RHP Carlos Gomez: (W, 4-1)  1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
RHP Colby White1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
RHP Jesus Liranzo: (S, 2) 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Hudson Valley (44-45) (Lost to Wilmington, 5-4)

2B Roc Riggio1-for-2, 2 RS, 2 SB (17), 2 BB
Riggio, at his best, is a pest. He is hitting .229/.364/.401 in 320 PA and is on a 5-game hitting streak.
SS Jared Serna: 2-for-4, 2B (24), HR (13), 3 RBI, RS
Serna’s first home run in July (17-game drought overall). Serna tends to hit in spurts, so we’ll see if this is the start of one. He’s hitting .252/.340/.442 in 382 PA. He is second in the league in doubles and tied for the league lead in RBI.
CF Jace Avina0-for-4, 2 K
DH Omar Martinez0-for-4, 2 K
C Antonio Gomez0-for-4, 3 K
1B Josh Moylan1-for-3, HR (4), RBI, RS, BB, K
.239/.363/.339 in 278 PA. He has a 14.7% BB and 24.8% K.
RF Garrett Martin0-for-4, 3 K
LF Christopher Familia0-for-3, BB, K
3B Brenny Escanio0-for-3, 3 K

RHP Baron Stuart5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
3.77 ERA (71.2 IP, 67 H, 31 R, 30 ER, 3 HR, 26 BB, 61 K). That stat line doesn’t include an impressive emergency start for Scranton (7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 2 K).
RHP Huey Morrill1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
RHP Cole Ayers (L, 2-4): 1.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 2 HR

Tampa (35-53) (Their game against Clearwater was postponed due to rain)

SS George Lombard Jr.: 0-for-0
After spending the weekend at 3B, Lombard Jr. was scheduled to return to SS tonight.
2B Roderick Arias0-for-0
1B Dylan Jasso0-for-0
DH Caleb Durbin0-for-0
He missed a lot of time, so expect them to take their time with Durbin.
CF Jackson Castillo0-for-0
RF Willy Montero0-for-0
3B Hans Montero0-for-0
LF Coby Morales0-for-0
C Tomas Frick0-for-0

RHP Bryce Warrecker0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

FCL (35-22) (Lost to the Phillies, 5-3. The Yankees’ lead over the Tigers is one game with one game remaining. That game is against the Tigers. By my count, and I could be wrong, the teams have split 20 games this season. If I am correct, whoever wins on Thursday wins the division title. There is also a wild card slot open)

FYI: The Tigers played tonight, but the game ended in a 1-1 tie due to rain. The FCL does not require games to finish for playoff purposes. Hence, while the stats count, the game will go down as a meaningless tie.

CF Brando Mayea0-for-4, 2 SB (19), 3 K
.281/.370/.326 in 154 PA. He is 19-for-22 stealing bases (41-for-51 in 73 career games)
C Edgleen Perez0-for-3, BB, K
1B Engelth Urena0-for-3, RS, BB
LF Brian Sanchez2-for-4, 2 2B (16), RBI, RS, K
.306/.394/.514 in 198 PA. He is tied for second in the FCL with 16 doubles.
SS Juan Matheus2-for-2, RBI, RS, BB
.321/.429/.488 in 196 PA. He has 40 RBI and 30 runs scored.
2B Abrahan Ramirez1-for-1, RBI
I am not sure why Ramirez left the game. He is hitting .348/.447/.513 in 189 PA.

RHP Sunayro Martina3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
RHP Alejandro Gomez2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

DSL Yankees (11-23) (Lost to DSL Miami, 10-2)

SS Dexters Peralta1-for-4, RS, 2 SB (16), K
Recently turned 17, Peralta is hitting .208/.286/.248 in 112 PA with 16 stolen bases in 17 attempts.
DH Richard Matic1-for-2, 2B (5), RBI, BB
The 16-year-old (turns 17 on 7/26) is hitting .226/.330/.280 in 109 PA.

RHP Alexander Almonte2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
The 17-year-old owns a 2.95 ERA in 18.1 IP with an 18/8 K/BB.
RHP Ismael Delgadillo2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K

DSL Bombers (20-15) (Lost to Phillies Red, 3-1)

CF Francisco Vilorio2-for-4, 2B (6), K
Vilorio has hit safely in six of his last seven games. He has four doubles during this streak (he increased his triple slash from .180/.242/.279 to .214/.287/.345).

LHP Franyer Herrera4.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
The 19-year-old owns a 2.79 ERA in 29 IP with a 38/11 K/BB.

Yankees MILB 7/11: Roderick Arias Has Multi-Hit Night

News:

Catching up on the news:

RHP Justin Lange was transferred to the full-season injury list. Acquired for Luke VoitLange was a $2,000,000 signing by the Padres from the 2020 draft. Like many of his ilk, Lange flashes moments of brilliance mixed with plenty of frustration due to his lack of command/control of his potentially elite stuff. He is Rule 5 eligible this winter, but that is irrelevant. The Yankees won’t protect him and he is an unlikely selection.

RHP Chase Hampton and OF Anthony Hall are heading to Tampa (from the FCL) to continue their rehab stints. Hall will eventually land with Hudson Valley while I assume Hampton is destined for Somerset before his eventual Scranton debut.

RHP Yorlin Calderon, pitching to a 2.28 ERA in 16 games (27.2 IP) for Somerset, was demoted to Hudson Valley.

Scranton (48-40) (Swept in a doubleheader against Syracuse)

Game 1 (Lost, 6-5)

CF Brandon Lockridge2-for-4, 2 RS, K
DH Jorbit Vivas1-for-3, HR (5), RBI, RS, BB
Vivas’ HR in the top of the 7th gave the Railriders a 5-4 lead, but they blew it in the bottom of the inning.
SS Oswald Peraza0-for-4, RS, 2 K
C Agustin Ramirez1-for-2, 2B (1), 2 RBI, BB, K
Ramirez crushed that 2-run double to tie the game at 4-4 in the 5th.
1B Jose Rojas: 1-for-3, RBI
LF Taylor Trammell1-for-3, RBI, K
RF Oscar Gonzalez0-for-3
3B Kevin Smith1-for-3, RS, K
2B Josh VanMeter0-for-3, 2 K

LHP Tanner Tully4 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, HR
RHP Scott Effross1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
A nice, clean inning for Effross.
LHP Victor Gonzalez: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Phil Bickford (L, 2-4): 0.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

Game 2 (Lost, 2-1)

SS Oswald Peraza1-for-4, K
2B Jorbit Vivas0-for-3
For Scranton: .258/.404/.424 in 169 PA. The sample size is getting larger and the numbers are solid.
1B Agustin Ramirez0-for-3
Since promotion: 11-for-63 (.175) with a double, four home runs and 11 RBI. He started very slow but has picked it up. He is going to hit here – I have no concerns about that.
C Carlos Narvaez1-for-2, SB (8), BB
.269/.388/.446 in 304 PA (17 doubles, 9 HR, 47 RBI, 45 R)
CF Brandon Lockridge0-for-3, 3 K
DH Jose Rojas0-for-3, K
LF Taylor Trammell1-for-2, HR (5), RBI, RS, SB (7), BB, K
RF Oscar Gonzalez1-for-2, BB
3B Jeter Downs0-for-2, HBP

RHP JT Brubaker 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
I am not sure why Brubaker left the game. He is rehabbing, but he tossed 2.2 innings last time and has reached four innings in an outing. Yes, I am concerned but hopefully, it is nothing major.
RHP Art Warren1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Yerry De Los Santos1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
LHP Anthony Misiewicz: (L, 2-2) 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
RHP Ron Marinaccio1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Somerset (42-42) (Lost to Erie, 6-0)

CF Spencer Jones0-for-4, 3 K
Not that it ultimately matters, but I thought they would keep him in the second spot after his solid night last night.
SS Ben Cowles0-for-3, HBP
This is nothing against Cowles. This is more of a “That’s baseball, Suzyn” thing: Cowles goes 7-for-8 in a doubleheader and is 2-for-15 since. Go ahead – try to figure this game out. He is hitting an impressive .297/.376/.478 in 340 PA with 23 doubles, 3 triples, 8 HR, 46 RBI, 49 R, and 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts. He is positioning himself for an MLB role sometime in 2025, whether here or elsewhere.
DH Tyler Hardman0-for-3, BB, 3 K
1B Rafael Flores0-for-3, 2 K
C J.C. Escarra0-for-3
RF Grant Richardson1-for-3, 2B (18), K
Richardson is 7-for-23 with two doubles and a home run in July.
2B Anthony Seigler1-for-3, K
Last 10 games: 12-for-33 (.364; 6 doubles, 6 RBI, 7 BB, 6 K)
LF Jared Wegner0-for-1, CS (4), 2 BB, K
3B Max Burt0-for-3, 2 K

RHP Trystan Vrieling: (L, 7-7)  5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K
5.56 ERA (90.2 IP, 99 H, 59 R, 56 ER, 9 HR, 30 BB, 88 K). His biggest bugaboo has been lefties. Entering tonight, they hit .303/.378/.416 with 22 walks and 35 strikeouts in 204 PA. Against right-handed hitters? .242/.265/.418 with five walks and 48 strikeouts in 171 PA. Both sides have displayed power, but there is still a stark difference when looking at other metrics/numbers.
RHP McKinley Moore: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Eric Reyzelman1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, HR
For Somerset: 3.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K. This was the second HR he has allowed in his career (30.1 IP)
RHP Luis Velasquez1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Hudson Valley (41-41) (Lost to Jersey Shore, 3-2)

2B Roc Riggio1-for-5, RBI
.220/.362/.377 in 290 PA. He is in a little slump after a prolonged hot streak, but nothing to be worried about.
SS Jared Serna1-for-4, 2B (23)
Serna was pinch hit for in the 9th yesterday, but it was nothing as he was back in action today.
RF Jace Avina0-for-3, HBP, 2 K
C Omar Martinez1-for-3, RS, BB
.239/.382/.407 in 280 PA.
3B Josh Moylan:  0-for-1, 3 BB, K
Moylan’s first career 3 BB game. He has shown off solid plate discipline.
DH Christopher Familia0-for-4, 2 K
CF Cole Gabrielson2-for-4, 2B (11), RBI, RS, 2 K
1B Kiko Romero0-for-2, 2 BB
LF Nelson Medina0-for-4, K

RHP Blane Abeyta6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
RHP Matt Keating: (L, 3-2)  2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
4.13 ERA (48 IP, 36 H, 24 R, 22 ER, 7 HR, 18 BB, 59 K)

Tampa (30-52) (Lost to Dunedin, 4-3)

SS George Lombard Jr.: 0-for-5, 3 K
Tough nights are becoming rarer for Lombard Jr. We will toss this one.
2B Roderick Arias: 2-for-4, 2B (13), RS, SB (23), BB, K
Back-to-back multi-hit efforts for Arias. He is 4-for-5 stealing bases in his last five games. Yes, I know about his warts and have commented on them several times. He has these flashes where he shows off his pure raw talent that keeps you interested. I do not disagree with those who have lowered him in their rankings.
1B Dylan Jasso0-for-4, BB, 2 K
LF Jackson Castillo1-for-4, RBI
CF Willy Montero1-for-4, 3B (1), RS, K
3B Hans Montero1-for-2, RBI, RS, CS (3), 2 BB, K
Montero has a 6-game hitting streak (9-for-18). It has increased his triple slash from .202/.286/.337 to .232/.322/.398.
DH Coby Morales2-for-4, K
C Diomedes Hernandez1-for-3, RBI, BB
Hernandez singled in Castillo in his first Low-A plate appearance. For the FCL squad, the 19-year-old played only 14 games, going 10-for-41 (.244/.295/.244) with five runs batted in. He was called up to this level on July 5th, but this was his first game.
RF Daury Arias0-for-4, K

RHP Josh Grosz4 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, HR
Grosz dialed it up to 95.8 tonight (averaged 94.3) and mixed his three pitches well (35% 4-seamers, 33% changeups, 32% sliders). The 21-year-old owns a 5.04 ERA at this level with an 80/25 K/BB over 60.2 IP. He has allowed too many homers (9) and the walk rate isn’t ideal, but he has shown signs of dominance. Like many youngsters, he needs to find consistency.
LHP Rafelin Nivar: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K
Nivar touched 95.2 with his sinker and struck out Joey Votto. I can only imagine what kind of thrill that is for a kid.  Standing 5’10”, control has been an issue (25/21 K/BB over 24 IP between here and the FCL)
RHP Aaron Nixon (L, 2-2): 1 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
4.34 ERA (45.2 IP, 28 H, 26 R, 22 ER, 1 HR, 36 BB, 47 K). He is keeping the ball in the park and striking out a decent number of hitters, but walks are an issue. Nixon pitched in big settings in college, as he pitched for Texas and Mississippi State. The Yankees signed him as an undrafted free agent, hoping to unlock some production.
RHP Ocean Gabonia1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

FCL (29-17)

Their game against the FCL Tigers was postponed due to rain. They play tomorrow but switch home fields. Hence, they have not scheduled this game for tomorrow. I do not see a makeup date.

DSL Yankees (9-17) (Lost to the DSL Tigers 2, 15-4)

SS Dexters Peralta1-for-5, RS, K
Peralta turned 17 today.
3B Richard Matic0-for-3, 2 RS, HBP
C Justin Capellan2-for-3, RBI, SB (4), BB
.268/.364/.357 for the 17-year-old in his debut campaign.
LF Gabriel Lara1-for-3, 2B (1), RS, SB (9), BB
DH Luis Puello1-for-4, RBI, K
.388/.492/.571 in 59 PA (3 doubles, 2 home runs, 12 RBI, 8 BB, 9 K)

RHP Luis Burgos2 IP, 1 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K
The 18-year-old’s first professional start.
RHP Keninson Diaz: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
The 20-year-old is in his third season at this level. He pitched pretty well last season (2.76 ERA in 32.2 IP with a 50/14 K/BB) but they didn’t move him up.

DSL Bombers (16-11) (Lost to the DSL Giants Orange, 3-0, in a 6-inning game)

CF Francisco Vilorio0-for-3, K
Vilorio has struggled in his first 16 professional games (.190/.254/.293 with 24 strikeouts). He does have a double, triple, and homer.
C Queni Pineda2-for-2, BB
.262/.458/.443 in 83 PA. He has a 22/13 BB/K

LHP Junior Tavera (L, 0-3): 3 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
RHP Carlos Almonte2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
10.2 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 8 K
RHP Jose Rosario0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Yankees MILB 7/6: Agustin Ramirez Homers Again

News:

There’s some time off coming up for the system. First, they are off on Sunday and Monday. Then, after a full week of games Tuesday-Sunday, they take four days off for the MLB All-Star Break (they don’t play minor league All-Star games anymore, other than the Futures Game). This only applies to full-season leagues.

Scranton (47-38)  (Lost to Lehigh Valley, 5-3)

CF Brandon Lockridge0-for-3, SB (27), 2 BB, K
Lockridge is 67-for-75 stealing bases between 2023-2024 (149 games).
2B Jorbit Vivas1-for-4, BB, 2 K
Vivas is 7-for-21 with three doubles and a homer in July. He has at least one hit in 12 of his last 13 games and 15 of his last 17 games. Yes, he is a legitimate prospect.
SS Oswald Peraza2-for-3, 2B (3), RS, BB, K
We have seen some signs of life lately (10-for-30 in his last eight games). The power game remains a mystery (his double tonight was his first extra-base hit in July)
C Agustin Ramirez: 2-for-4, HR (4), 2 RBI, RS
Season (including Somerset): .270/.358/.539 in 324 PA (14 doubles, 1 triple, 20 HR, 58 RBI, 54 R, 16-for-17 SB). For Scranton: He has homered in back-to-back games and four of his last eight games. He is also on a 5-game hitting streak. After starting 1-for-24, he is 9-for-30 with four home runs and 8 RBI. I understand there are questions about his future position, but how can you keep this kid out of your Top 100?
1B T.J. Rumfield1-for-4, HR (9), RBI, RS, K
Since promotion: .292/.352/.470 in 261 PA (15 doubles, 9 HR, 41 RBI, 40 R)
DH Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-4, K
RF Oscar Gonzalez1-for-4, K
LF Taylor Trammell0-for-4, K
3B Jeter Downs0-for-4

RHP Will Warren6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 11 K, HR
Warren sets a new best for strikeouts in a game. Season: 6.64 ERA (80 IP, 87 H, 63 R, 59 ER, 17 HR, 29 BB, 96 K).
RHP Yerry De Los Santos1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 2 HR
RHP Art Warren1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Phil Bickford: (L, 2-3)  0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 2 HR
RHP Ron Marinaccio0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Somerset (41-40) (Lost to Reading, 5-2)

DH Spencer Jones0-for-4, 3 K
Last 3 games: 0-for-12, 1 BB, 11 K.  This has spiked his K% to 37.2%. If you are feeling a little concerned, it is justified. He had that 2-HR, 7 RBI performance on June 30th and an extended streak of solid hitting but has started to slump again. There is reason to be optimistic, because of the incredible tools. It’s going to be a process.
SS Ben Cowles0-for-4, K
I guess he was tired after yesterday’s 7-hit effort. He is hitting .301 with a .863 OPS.
1B Tyler Hardman: 2-for-2, HR (4), RBI, RS, 2 BB
Hardman has 30 home runs in 99 games at this level.
C Rafael Flores0-for-4, K
LF Elijah Dunham: 2-for-4, 2B (14), HR (8), RBI, RS
Dunham has a 15-game hitting streak. He has seven doubles and five home runs during the streak.
CF Grant Richardson0-for-4, 2 K
2B Anthony Seigler0-for-3, BB
RF Jared Wegner1-for-4, K
3B Max Burt0-for-4, 3 K

LHP Brock Selvidge: (L, 7-6)  5 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 2 HR
Ex-Yankees prospect Josh Breaux hit a 2-run HR off of Selvidge. That wasn’t very nice. Season: 4.25 ERA (84.2 IP, 78 H, 50 R, 40 ER, 6 HR, 40 BB, 83 K). This is only the third time in his career (50th start) where he allowed multiple home runs.
RHP Danny Watson1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
It has been a struggle since coming back from injury, but let’s see what happens in the second half of the season. He has only 12 innings pitched this season.

Lombard Jr. is 6-for-21 with a triple and homer in July. He has struck out only three times this month, lowering his K% to 21.5%.
SS Roderick Arias0-for-4, K
.210/.303/.353 in 343 PA. Unlike Lombard Jr., Arias has struggled in the strikeout department (34.7%).

RHP Danny Flatt: (L, 0-1)  2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 2 HR
Flatt’s Low-A debut after pitching to a 2.90 ERA in 31 FCL innings. The Yankees drafted him in the 14th round of the 2023 draft out of P27 Academy. P27 is a baseball academy located in South Carolina. To date, he is one of three players (first pitcher) drafted out of the academy, joining Logan Wagner (Dodgers, 2022; SS) and Alfonsin Rosario (Cubs, 2023; OF). His 4-seam fastball topped out at 92.4 and he mixed in a change and curve.

RHP Chase Hampton2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
I assume he will make his way to Somerset after the All-Star Break.
RHP Carlos Lagrange1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
Just like Hampton, Lagrange is coming back from injury. The results don’t yet matter.
RHP Chalniel Arias1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
Today was rehab day in the FCL, as Arias made his first appearance in 2024. The 20-year-old pitched to a 3.09 ERA in 11 starts between the DSL/FCL in 2023 with a 61/17 K/BB over 46.2 innings.
RHP Luis Pacheco1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
Pacheco (who is 25) signed a minor-league contract on June 11th. In the Mexican League this season, he pitched to a 2.78 ERA in 22.2 IP with a 14/5 K/BB.  He spent the 2017-2019 seasons in the Phillies organizations (never above the FCL level) and resurfaced in the independent/winter leagues in 2022.

Game 2 (Lost, 16-3)

CF Brian Sanchez2-for-3, RS
.303/.395/.538 in 152 PA with 12 stolen bases in 14 attempts.
DH Edgleen Perez1-for-2, RS, BB
The 18-year-old has 50 RBI and 49 runs in 77 career games. Additionally, he has more walks (66) than strikeouts (56).
C Engelth Urena: 2-for-3, 2B (7), 2 RBI, RS
Urena has five doubles in his last four games. He is a bat to watch. Season: .253/.361/.429 in 108 PA (7 doubles, 3 HR, 20 RBI, 17 R, 3-for-4 SB, 14 BB, 15 K)
3B Abrahan Ramirez1-for-3
Today’s performance leaves his triple slash at .381/.483/.563 in 152 PA (13 doubles, 2 triples, 2 HR, 20 RBI, 28 R, 6-for-7 SB, 25 BB, 20 K)

RHP Brian Arias1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
Yet another pitcher making his 2024 debut. In 36.2 innings for the DSL squads between 2021-2023, the 20-year-old pitched to a 4.91 ERA in 36.2 IP with a 41/26 K/BB.

C Carlos Rondon1-for-3, 2 RBI, RS, BB

RHP Jerson Alejandro (W, 1-3): 4.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Alejandro is 6’6″ and has the control issues that often come with that. At 18, he has time to work through them.
RHP Joshua Leito2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
The 19-year-old “shortstop” may not be any longer. He hasn’t played one game in the field this season while making three relief appearances. For someone with zero pitching experience, he has done well for himself: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
LHP Jose Ledesma (S, 3): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K

RHP Enixon Sanchez2.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K
Your reminder that Sanchez is only 16 years old (12 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 4 ER, 0 HR, 10 BB, 10 K)

Yankees MILB 7/5: Ben Cowles’ Big Day

News:

RHP Phil Bickford rejected an outright assignment a few days ago. Today, he re-signed with the Yankees. Veterans often do this to earn extra money on minor league deals if they can’t secure an MLB opportunity elsewhere.

Scranton (47-37)  (Defeated Lehigh Valley, 7-4)

CF Brandon Lockridge1-for-3, SAC, CS (3)
.293/.406/.389 in 189 PA. I can’t wait until Lockridge makes his debut – it might not be with the Yankees, but I think someone is going to give him a shot.
3B Jorbit Vivas: 2-for-3, HR (4), 2 RBI, RS, SB (8), BB
On a night when Gleyber Torres leaves the game, Vivas has another big effort. He is hitting .269/.409/.429 in 152 PA. As for his ability to play third base: The scouting reports aren’t favorable and the Dodgers scaled back his time last season. The Yankees have used him sparingly there, indicating that they think he can handle it to an extent. Perhaps a “break glass in case of emergency” type of deal. If you believe reports, if Vivas is going to make it, it will be as a second baseman.
2B Oswald Peraza0-for-4, K
Peraza, another option to call up, is hitting .201/.318/.236. I am a big Peraza fan. I wanted him to take over SS for the Yankees halfway through 2022. But I can’t justify him being called up. He has not earned that.
1B Agustin Ramirez1-for-4, HR (3), RBI, RS, K
Ramirez has homered three times in his last seven games.
C Carlos Narvaez1-for-3, 2B (17), RS, CS (1), BB, K
Narvaez’s strong year continues: .269/.390/.454 in 292 PA (17 doubles, 9 HR, 45 RBI, 44 R). The 45 RBI are a personal best for RBI in a season. If the Yankees move on from Jose Trevino after 2024, Narvaez is a candidate to play with Austin Wells next season. We are a while away from worrying about that.
RF Oscar Gonzalez2-for-4, RBI, RS, K
LF Taylor Trammell: 2-for-3, 2B (11), HR (4), 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB
DH Jeter Downs1-for-4, RBI, RS
I have been asked about Downs. Given his name and prospect pedigree, fun story to follow. Do I think he is an MLB difference-maker at this stage? Probably not. But players figure things out at different rates.
SS Kevin Smith1-for-4, RS, K

RHP JT Brubaker2.2 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 1 K, HR
Once his rehab stint is over, the Yankees must add him to the 40-man roster. The good news is that he has options. He is an interesting depth piece because he can be a starter/reliever/swingman.
RHP Duane Underwood Jr.1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Scott Effross1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
For Scranton: 4.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K. Yes, we want to see zeroes – but we are still in a stage where the work is the most important thing.
LHP Oddanier Mosqueda: (W, 5-0)  1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Jack Neely1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Neely needed 30 pitches to get through his first inning but was able to come out to record two more outs. Everything they ask him to do has a purpose. He has yet to do back-to-back days, but you don’t necessarily have to prove you can do that in the minors.
LHP Anthony Misiewicz1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
LHP Victor Gonzalez (S, 1): 0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
7 pitchers were used tonight. Thankfully for them, the squad has Sunday and Monday off.

Somerset (41-39) (Won two games against Reading)

Game 1 (Won, 8-2, in the conclusion of last night’s suspended game. This one went the full 9 innings)

CF Spencer Jones0-for-4, RS, BB, 3 K
SS Ben Cowles: 4-for-5, 2B (22), HR (7), 3 RBI, 2 RS, CS (2)

DH Rafael Flores1-for-4, HR (2), RBI, RS, HBP, K
Flores has three doubles and two home runs in 9 games since his promotion.
LF Elijah Dunham1-for-5, 2B (13), K
Dunham increases his hitting streak to 13.
C J.C. Escarra1-for-4, RS
RF Jared Wegner2-for-3, RS, BB
.248/.337/.393 in 205 PA.
2B Anthony Seigler1-for-3, 2B (15), RS, BB
This is Seigler’s third double in four July games.
3B Max Burt1-for-3, HR (4), SF, 2 RBI, RS, K

RHP Trystan Vrieling3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
At least he got three innings in before the rain started. Season: 5.67 ERA (85.2 IP, 94 H, 57 R, 54 ER, 9 HR, 27 BB, 83 K). His numbers were impacted greatly by his last two starts (8 IP, 22 H, 17 R, 16 ER, 4 BB, 9 K).
RHP Yorlin Calderon: (W, 1-1)  2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
RHP Luis Velasquez2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, HR
RHP Colby White1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
RHP Joey Gerber1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Game 2 (Won, 5-4)

CF Spencer Jones0-for-4, 4 K
Once he starts to reel you in, he has a 0-for-8 doubleheader with 7 strikeouts. He has to move on to tomorrow.
2B Ben Cowles: 3-for-3, HR (8), RBI, 2 RS, BB
Have yourself a day, Ben Cowles!  His Game 1 homer was hit last night, but still – 7 hits in two games is insanity.  He entered the two games hitting .289/.367/.456 and is now hitting .306/.382/.493.
1B Tyler Hardman1-for-4, 2B (2), RS, K
C Rafael Flores1-for-2, RS, 2 BB
DH Elijah Dunham2-for-3, HR (7, grand slam), 4 RBI, RS, BB
Dunham has a 14-game hitting streak. His grand slam was hit in the top of the 7th (final inning) with the team down 3-1. He owns a .267 average with a .838 OPS. Before the hitting streak, he was hitting .233/.344/.411 (.755 OPS).
3B J.C. Escarra1-for-4, 2B (16)
RF Grant Richardson1-for-4, K
LF Aaron Palensky0-for-3, BB, K

3.93 ERA (84.2 IP, 73 H, 42 R, 37 ER, 10 HR, 28 BB, 88 K). I love how he has taken to starting.
RHP Eric Reyzelman: (W, 1-0)  1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
After 16.1 scoreless innings, Reyzelman gives up his first run in 2024.
RHP Kevin Stevens (S, 5): 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
The bottom of the 7th was an adventure, but he worked his way through it.

Hudson Valley (40-37) (Lost to Brooklyn, 8-3)

2B Roc Riggio1-for-4, 2 RS, 3 SB (14), BB
This is the player the Yankees drafted – a pest who can play second base, has sneaky pop and can steal you a base. He owns a 21-game on-base streak.
SS Jared Serna0-for-4, K
LF Jace Avina2-for-4, 2B (22), RBI, RS, K
Avina has 30 extra-base hits (22 doubles, 8 HR) in 64 games.

Game 2 (Won, 7-6)

SS George Lombard Jr.: 1-for-4, RS, SB (24), K
.233/.362/.330 with 24 stolen bases in 27 attempts. I like what I see.
3B Enmanuel Tejeda1-for-1
Tejeda left the game due to an injury. Update: Virginia Yankee (on Twitter) said Tejeda was helped off the field. Ugh.
  PR-3B Hans Montero1-for-3, HR (5), 2 RBI, RS, K
Tejeda’s replacement hits a huge 2-run HR in the bottom of the 6th to give Tampa the lead.
2B Roderick Arias0-for-3, 2 RS, 2 SB (21), BB, K
Arias is 21-for-30 in the stolen base department. He started the season 5-for-10 and is 16-for-20 (80%) since. This is the type of potential Arias has – he can be disruptive on days when he doesn’t earn hits. There is a lot of work to do, I am not going to lie.
1B Dylan Jasso1-for-3, 2B (20), RBI, K
LF Jackson Castillo2-for-2, 2B (14), RBI, RS, SB (11), BB

CF Willy Montero0-for-3
C Josue Gonzalez1-for-3, RBI, RS, K

FCL (27-15) (Defeated the FCL Phillies, 4-2. This was the conclusion of a game started on June 27th. They didn’t play a regularly scheduled game today, but will play two tomorrow).

We are rapidly approaching the end of the FCL season (July 25th). The Yankees own a 2.5-game lead over the Tigers for the division title. That is the easiest path to the playoffs.

RF Anthony Hall: 3-for-4, RBI, RS
3B Abrahan Ramirez1-for-4, 2B (9), 2 RBI
.395/.500/.588 in 145 PA (13 doubles, 2 triples, 2 HR, 20 RBI, 28 R, 6-for-7 SB). Before you ask: Everything in the boxscore is retroactive. That is why you see 9 doubles in the box score but 13 overall!

RHP Sabier Marte4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
One of the most-used pitchers thus far at this level, Marte owns a 2.65 ERA in 37.1 innings with a 33/16 K/BB.
RHP Andrew Landry2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
The 22-year-old was the Yankees’ 16th-round pick in 2023 out of Southeastern Louisiana. In his final year of college, he started full-time.
RHP Yoljeldriz Diaz (W, 4-0): 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

LF Gabriel Lara1-for-4, SB (8)
C Luis Puello1-for-3
DH Diego Flores: 1-for-2, SB (1), BB
The 17-year-old catcher is 3-for-14 in his debut season.

RHP Emanuel Vargas: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Vargas is 18 years old. If you think I know much about 99% of the players here, you give me too much credit.

DSL Bombers (13-9) (Defeated the DSL Yankees, 4-0)

CF Francisco Vilorio1-for-4, K
DH Queni Pineda1-for-2, 2B (5), RS, BB
The 17-year-old continues to be featured prominently in these reports. That is what a .264/.458/.472 line will do.
2B Luis Escudero: 1-for-2, RS, SB (15), BB
15-for-17 stealing bases in 17 games. Despite how crazy that is, he ranks 8th in the league in stolen bases.
LF Angel Ventura1-for-4, 2B (1), RBI, RS, SB (8), K
The 18-year-old is hitting .182/.308/.212 with 8 stolen bases in 9 attempts.

RHP Mariano Salomon (W, 3-0): 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K
The 21-year-old owns a 2.50 ERA in 68.1 IP over the last two seasons (85/15 K/BB). That seems like enough for a promotion.
RHP Anthony Mena1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Richard Jimenez0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K

Yankees MILB 7/3: Agustin Ramirez Homers

1B T.J. Rumfield0-for-1, RS, 2 BB
CF Brandon Lockridge1-for-2, SB (26), BB

LHP Tanner Tully5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
RHP Scott Effross1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
How much more time does Effross need? Good question. They may use his entire rehab clock before deciding to bring him up (because he is coming back from an elbow injury, the Yankees will have the option to request more rehab time)
LHP Anthony Misiewicz (L, 2-1): 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, HR

Game 2 (Won, 9-6)

3B Jorbit Vivas0-for-2, RS, CI, BB, 2 K
In case you are wondering: Catcher’s interference does not increase an on-base streak. So, he needed that walk to increase his on-base streak to 15.
2B Oswald Peraza1-for-3, RS, SAC
1B Agustin Ramirez1-for-2, HR (2), RBI, 2 RS, BB, K
Doubleheader: 2-for-5, HR, RBI, 3 R, SB, 2 BB, 2 K. That doesn’t light the world on fire, but he needed a day like this. Between here and Somerset, he has 18 HR, 55 RBI, 52 runs, and 16 stolen bases in 17 attempts.
DH T.J. Rumfield1-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB
Another strong game for Rumfield.
CF Brandon Lockridge: 2-for-3, 2B (11), 2 RS, SAC, K
Lockridge is at .292 with a .798 OPS. He has three multi-hit efforts in his last four games. He was hitting .177 at the end of April.
C Carlos Narvaez1-for-3, 2 RBI, HBP, K
Narvaez entered tonight hitting .283/.333/.550 against LHP this season. Is that relevant for the MLB team? Hmmm.
RF Jose Rojas0-for-2, SF, RBI, BB, 2 K
LF Oscar Gonzalez: 1-for-3, SF, 2 RBI, K
SS Kevin Smith1-for-4, RBI, K

LHP Victor Gonzalez: (W, 1-0) 0.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 0 K
Seriously – what happened to him? He wasn’t a star in Los Angeles but he was useful.
RHP Art Warren1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K

Somerset (39-39) (Defeated Reading, 5-4)

DH Spencer Jones1-for-3, RS, BB, K
Jones extends his hitting streak to 7 (10-for-31, 5 doubles, 3 HR)
SS Ben Cowles1-for-3, BB, 2 K
1B Tyler Hardman1-for-4, RBI, 2 K
C Rafael Flores0-for-4, 3 K
CF Elijah Dunham1-for-4, 2B (12), RS
Dunham increases his hitting streak to 12.
3B J.C. Escarra0-for-3, RS, BB
LF Grant Richardson1-for-4, 2B (17), RS, 2 K
2B Anthony Seigler3-for-4, 2B (14), 3 RBI, RS, K
.224/.316/.398 in 228 PA. He has two 3-hit efforts in his last three games.
RF Aaron Palensky1-for-4, 2B (8), RBI, K

LHP Ben Shields5.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K
It was a solid Double-A debut for Shields, who continues his strong debut season.
RHP Danny Watson: 1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, HR
RHP Jesus Liranzo (W, 3-1): 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
RHP Kevin Stevens (S, 4): 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
2.89 ERA (28 IP, 23 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 1 HR, 10 BB, 44 K). He is fun to watch, as he missed the entire 2023 season but has put together an eye-opening campaign in 2024.

Hudson Valley (39-37) (Lost to Brooklyn, 4-0. They didn’t score for the second straight night)

CF Jace Avina0-for-4, BB, 2 K
He left the game early on Monday. It’s nice to see him back in the lineup tonight.
SS Jared Serna: 0-for-3, BB
Serna is in a little 2-for-16 slump. He tends to be streaky, I am finding out.
C Omar Martinez0-for-2, 2 BB, 2 K
.233/.379/.393 in 256 PA. He owns an 18.4% BB rate.
DH Antonio Gomez0-for-4, K
1B Josh Moylan0-for-4, 2 K
RF Garrett Martin0-for-3, CI, K
LF Christopher Familia0-for-4, 2 K
2B Brenny Escanio2-for-4, 2 K
3B Beau Brewer: 2-for-4, K
When the bottom of your order goes 4-for-8, you need to score runs!

LHP Kyle Carr: (L, 0-5) 5.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, HR
Carr pitched well tonight – with two outs in the 6th, he allowed a 2-run homer that tarnished his line. It’s one of those things that annoys prospect followers but doesn’t erase all the good that happened. Season: 5.95 ERA (59 IP, 64 H, 47 R, 39 ER, 5 HR, 37 BB, 53 K)
RHP Trent Sellers2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
3.59 ERA (46.2 IP, 33 H, 26 R, 19 ER, 2 HR, 31 BB, 59 K). It’s all about throwing more strikes, which is the case for so many prospects.

Tampa (27-47) (They were supposed to play two games against Lakeland. Game 1 was played, Game 2 was postponed due to rain)

Game 1 (Lost, 10-6)

SS George Lombard Jr.: 1-for-4, HR (2), RBI, 2 RS
Lombard Jr’s power hasn’t shown itself much this season, but it’s there. His .332 SLG doesn’t jump out at you, but it is his 2024 high-water mark. I would not be shocked if he showed extra power for the last few months of the season. I can’t believe we are already talking about the last few months of the season!
3B Enmanuel Tejeda1-for-3, RBI, RS, BB
I talk him up because I like prospects like this. He can play a lot of positions, make contact, steal bases, etc. His ceiling may be nothing more than Ronald Torreyes with added speed. If he becomes that, it is an organizational win.
2B Roderick Arias3-for-4
Arias has three 3-hit efforts this season (16 multi-hit games).
1B Dylan Jasso0-for-3, SF, RBI
CF Jackson Castillo1-for-4, 2B (13), RS
DH Hans Montero1-for-3, 3B (3), RS, K
LF Willy Montero1-for-2, 2B (14), SF, 2 RBI, RS, K
.253/.304/.368 in 276 PA. He starts July with a solid game after his .376/.404/.588 (32 hits) effort in June.
C Josue Gonzalez2-for-2, RBI, BB
Gonzalez is another interesting catching prospect in an organization filled with them.
RF Coby Morales1-for-3, K

RHP Luis Serna (L, 2-5): 3.2 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, HR
Serna cruised through three innings but allowed 8 runs in the 4th.
RHP Aaron Nixon2 IP, 0 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
RHP Harrison Cohen1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K

Yankees MILB 6/28: Agustin Ramirez Hits First Scranton Homer

News:

None.

Scranton (45-33) (Defeated Worcester, 7-5)

CF Brandon Lockridge0-for-4, 2 K
3B Jorbit Vivas1-for-3, RS, 2 SB (6), BB
Vivas is hitting .255/.403/.388 in 126 PA for Scranton and is on a 6-game hitting streak. We talk about his good pop for a middle infielder, but he also can run a little. Last year, he stole 25 bases in 30 attempts.
2B Oswald Peraza3-for-4, 2B (2), RBI, 2 RS
Peraza is surging towards .200 (have to start somewhere). He is hitting .198/.324/.240 for Scranton. The lack of power stands out.
C Agustin Ramirez1-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, 2 K
Ramirez gets that first Triple-A homer. It’s his 17th HR overall (54 RBI)
1B T.J. Rumfield1-for-4, HR (8), 2 RBI, RS, K
For Scranton: .294/.347/.466 in 242 PA. The power has shown up in June (.296/.337/.556 with 6 doubles and 5 homers). Rumfield with power is an interesting prospect. Yes, the “Triple-A is juiced up!” disclaimer applies.
DH Carlos Narvaez0-for-4, K
LF Jose Rojas1-for-4, 2 K
RF Oscar Gonzalez2-for-3, HR (5), RBI, RS, K
SS Jeter Downs1-for-2, 2B (13), 2 CS (6), BB, K, Ejection!
Busy night for Downs!
   SS Kevin Smith0-for-0

LHP Edgar Barclay5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
LHP Oddanier Mosqueda1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Matt Sauer: (W, 1-2) 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
Sauer has struggled since coming back. When you think about it, they are playing with house money since he couldn’t stick in Kansas City. Let’s see if he can get into a second-half groove.
LHP Anthony Misiewicz (S, 5): 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

Somerset (36-36) (Defeated Richmond, 7-5)

CF Spencer Jones1-for-5, 2B (10), RBI, 3 K
Jones has doubled in back-to-back games. He has 11 strikeouts in his last four games. When you are ranked #1 or #2 on 99.9% of Yankees’ prospect lists, there will be a large microscope.
SS Ben Cowles2-for-5, RBI, 2 K
Cowles has a 9-game hitting streak and is hitting .303/.382/.480 in 296 PA. This is the 24-year-old’s debut season at this level, so this performance is impressive. When will he get to Scranton? It doesn’t matter much – he needs at-bats, and they are more available here.
1B Rafael Flores1-for-5, 2B (2), 3 K
C J.C. Escarra1-for-4, HBP
DH Elijah Dunham1-for-5, RS, SB (9), 2 K
LF Grant Richardson2-for-4, RS, SB (9), BB, K
3 multi-hit games in his last five games played.
2B Anthony Seigler0-for-2, 2 RS, 2 SB (13), 2 BB
.199/.300/.370 in 207 PA (10 doubles, 7 HR, 23 RBI, 25 R, 13-for-14 SB, 12.6% BB, 20.3% K). Taking walks is one thing he has always done well offensively.
RF Aaron Palensky1-for-3, RBI, 2 RS, SB (12), BB
3B Max Burt1-for-4, 2B (3), 3 RBI, RS

RHP Blane Abeyta5 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, HR
RHP Carlos Gomez (W, 3-1): 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
RHP Luis Velasquez1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K
5.02 ERA (28.2 IP, 25 H, 24 R, 16 ER, 4 HR, 24 BB, 37 K).
RHP Jesus Liranzo (S, 1): 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Hudson Valley (37-34) (Defeated Wilmington, 6-2)

2B Roc Riggio2-for-3, 2B (13), BB
Riggio has doubled in four straight games and is up to .225/.368/.395 in 247 PA. He was taking walks but not hitting much. Now, the bat is starting to get going.
SS Jared Serna1-for-4
LF Jace Avina1-for-4
Avina has a 7-game hitting streak (11-for-26, .423)
C Omar Martinez2-for-3, HR (8), RBI, 2 RS, BB
.241/.377/.407. Martinez is a part of the impressive/improving catching pipeline.
1B Josh Moylan: 1-for-4, RS, K
Moylan has a 7-game hitting streak. I remember reading a lot from Yankees’ Twitter draft experts about how he was a nice undrafted signing. Perhaps the bat is heating up.
RF Garrett Martin1-for-2, HR (6), 2 RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB
.221/.315/.450 in 154 PA. He has four homers in his last six games.
DH Christopher Familia1-for-4, HR (1), 3 RBI, RS, 2 K
It’s been a slow start for Familia coming off his injury.
CF Cole Gabrielson0-for-4, K
3B Kiko Romero0-for-2, BB, 2 K

LHP Ben Shields: (W, 3-2)  5.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K
For Hudson Valley: 2.75 ERA (52.1 IP, 35 H, 19 R, 16 ER, 5 HR, 10 BB, 71 K). This is an impressive debut season for the undrafted free agent. At 25, he is old for the level but his lack of experience tells me this is the appropriate spot for him. I assume he will be on the list of promotions to Somerset.
RHP Luis Arejula1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
RHP Mason Vinyard1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
RHP Huey Morrill1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Tampa (27-45) (Defeated Ft. Myers, 9-2)

2B George Lombard Jr.: 0-for-4, RS, BB, K
3B Enmanuel Tejeda3-for-5, RBI, 3 SB (22)
.320/.364/.387 at this level. Tejeda is impressing me in 2024.
SS Roderick Arias0-for-4, RS, BB, K
1B Dylan Jasso0-for-4, RBI, RS, 2 K
CF Jackson Castillo2-for-5, 2B (12), RS
.249/.378/.418 in 233 PA.
RF Willy Montero2-for-5, 2B (8), 2 RBI, 2 RS, SB (20), K
Montero is 32-for-83 in June. Yes, collecting 30+ hits in a calendar month is not an easy feat.
DH Coby Morales2-for-4, 2 RBI, RS, K
C Tomas Frick1-for-3, 2B (10), RBI, RS, SB (1), BB, 2 K
LF Daury Arias1-for-4, RBI, RS

RHP Josh Grosz: (W, 2-5) 6.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K
Suggestion to the Yankees: I know that there are times when you need an emergency arm at other levels. However, I would keep Grosz here regardless of those needs. This is the level where he is undoubtedly most comfortable right now.
RHP Harrison Cohen0.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K
RHP Ocean Gabonia2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

FCL (24-13) (Their games against the FCL Phillies were postponed. The new date for yesterday’s suspended game is July 5th. I do not see a makeup day listed for today’s regularly scheduled game)

DSL Yankees (7-12) (Lost to DSL Arizona Black, 4-3. There is a reason for it (mainly location), but I still like that the DSL squads play more than three teams, unlike the FCL teams)

DH Justin Capellan1-for-4, RBI, 3 K
.275/.370/.375 in 46 PA. This is the 17-year-old’s debut campaign.
CF Gabriel Lara0-for-3, RS, 2 SB (7), BB
.233/.340/.302 in 50 PA. Thus far, he isn’t showing off the power he displayed in 2023 (.411 SLG), but I am more locked into how he does on the basepaths.
C Luis Puello1-for-2, 2B (3), SB (1), BB

RHP Alexander Almonte3.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
2.63 ERA in 13.2 IP for the 6’4″ 17-year-old. This is his de2but season.
RHP Luis Burgos2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

DSL Bombers (11-7) (Lost to DSL Colorado, 6-4)

CF Francisco Vilorio0-for-3, K
Vilorio’s first game since 6/15. The millionaire bonus baby is hitting .269/.367/.346 in eight games.
CF Browm Martinez1-for-1, RS, SB (11)
While I can’t say for certain, it is a reasonable assumption that Viliorio was pulled because he is coming back from injury.
DH Queni Pineda: 1-for-4, 2B (3), RBI, 2 K
2B Luis Escudero1-for-3, RS, SB (12)
A DSL classic line of .375/.563/.500 in 48 PA with 12 stolen bases in 13 attempts.
1B Carlos Rondon1-for-2, 2 RS, BB
So many players down here are labeled as “catchers” (true of Rondon) and “shortstops” regardless of where they ultimately play. Anyway, Rondon is 3-for-16 with 8 walks and 7 strikeouts.
3B Rafael Martinez2-for-3, 2B (1), RBI

RHP Mariano Salomon4.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
The 21-year-old has a 1.56 ERA in 17.1 IP (12 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 HR, 5 BB, 19 K)

Yankees MILB 6/18: Trystan Vrieling’s Masterful Performance

News:

RHP JT Brubaker and Scott Effross will begin their rehab stints in Tampa on Wednesday.

Effross hasn’t pitched since October 2, 2022. Acquired from the Cubs for Hayden Wesneski, he pitched to a 2.54 ERA (2.46 FIP) in 2022 with a 27.1% K and 44% GB. While he isn’t a traditional “blow it past you” reliever, he does miss bats.

Brubaker is a starter acquired from the Pirates over the winter for infield prospect Keiner Delgado. Brubaker hasn’t dazzled in his MLB career (4.99 ERA/4.43 FIP), but he does feature slightly above-average GB (44.1%) and strikeout (23.3%) rates. We’ll see if the Yankees try to use him in a relief role or use him for starter depth. He is under team control through 2025.  As for Delgado, the 20-year-old is playing for Pittsburgh’s Low-A affiliate, hitting .242/.324/.411 in 139 PA. He is playing well in June (.268/.412/.561 with 2 doubles, 2 triples, and 2 homers).

As for today’s roster moves, Ben Rice earned his promotion to MLB. The Yankees will not open a roster spot for RHP Jack Neely unless it is a permanent move. Hence, I am OK with adding Anthony Misiewicz and Clayton AndrewsBoth pitchers are easy to DFA once a 40-man roster slot is needed.

In Tampa, RHP Ryan Harvey and Kristofer Bow were placed on the injured list. Harvey is a starter while Bow’s turbo-sinker has been used out of the bullpen. The Tampa transactions page doesn’t yet list replacements.

As I mentioned on Twitter, the Yankees don’t have great outfield depth in the minors. If Aaron Judge requires IL time, you are looking at players like Taylor TrammellOscar Gonzalez, Brandon Lockridgeand Jose RojasTrammell has a “prospect pedigree” while Gonzalez was successful in Cleveland in 2022 (.296/.327/.461 in 91 games). Lockridge is a speed/defense guy while Rojas is a veteran without much MLB success.

In other words, hopefully, Judge is OK.

Scranton (40-28) (Outslugged Buffalo,11-10)

CF Brandon Lockridge0-for-4, RBI, BB, K
2B Jorbit Vivas: 2-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, RS, SB (3), BB, K
Vivas, who reached double digits in HR between 2021-2023, hits his first homer as a member of the Yankees’ organization (27th game)
SS Oswald Peraza0-for-5, RS, K
1B T.J. Rumfield0-for-3, RS, BB
Rumfield’s 7-game hitting streak is snapped.
C Carlos Narvaez1-for-4, HR (7), 2 RBI, RS, 3 K
Narvaez is hitting .251 with a .804 OPS. His personal best for HR is 12, set last year.
DH Jose Rojas2-for-4, HR (13), 2 RBI, 2 RS, K
Rojas has always been an offensive force in the minors, reaching 31 homers and 107 RBI in 2019 (yes, it was the PCL). However, MLB hasn’t been kind to him.
RF Oscar Gonzalez2-for-4, 2B (7), 2 RS
LF Taylor Trammell1-for-4, HR (2), 3 RBI, RS, K
3B Jeter Downs1-for-1, 2B (10), RBI, 2 RS, 3 SB (12), CS (4), 3 BB
A nice night (understatement) for Downs, who has performed well this season. That does not mean his prospect status is back, but perhaps he can still grind out an MLB career.

LHP Josh Maciejewski4 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 2 HR

RHP Matt Sauer: (S, 1) 1.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 2 HR

Somerset (32-32) (Knocked off Erie, 6-1)

CF Spencer Jones3-for-4, 2B (8), RBI, RS, K
This jumps his OPS to .712 as he compiles his 4th 3-hit game this season. Next up is a march towards .800!  Jones is 18-for-61 (.295/.362/.525) in June.
C Agustin Ramirez1-for-4, 2B (14), 2 RBI, K
Ramirez has four doubles in his last six games. He is hitting .339/.359/.613 (5 doubles, 4 HR, 14 RBI) in June.
3B Tyler Hardman1-for-4, HR (2), RBI, RS, K
Hardman has homered in back-to-back games and has 28 homers in 85 Double-A contests.
  3B Max Burt0-for-0
SS Ben Cowles0-for-4, 3 K
Cowles went 2-for-8 in his first two games this season. That was the last time he was under .300 until tonight (.295).
1B J.C. Escarra0-for-3, RS, BB
LF Grant Richardson1-for-4, 2 RS, SB (7), K
.260/.326/.410 in 193 PA. Richardson has struggled in June, but he has hit safely in six of his last seven games.
DH Jared Wegner: 2-for-4, 2 2B (7), 2 RBI, K
2B Anthony Seigler0-for-3, BB, 2 K
RF Aaron Palensky1-for-4, RS

RHP Trystan Vrieling: (W, 7-4)  7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
4.58 ERA (74.2 IP, 70 H, 40 R, 38 ER, 6 HR, 22 BB, 72 K). This is an impressive Double-A showing for a kid in his debut season. I don’t remember the last time the Yankees started a pitching prospect’s career in Double-A.
RHP Colby White1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
RHP Luis Velasquez1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Hudson Valley (33-30) (Lost to Greensboro, 2-0)

2B Roc Riggio1-for-3, BB, 2 K
SS Jared Serna0-for-4, K
Thankfully, Serna missed only one game after the HBP.
CF Jace Avina2-for-4, 2B (17), K
After a bit of a slump, Avina has hit safely in six of his last seven games (8-for-31).
1B Rafael Flores0-for-2, 2 BB, K
.302/.415/.506 in 207 PA.
C Omar Martinez0-for-4, 3 K
DH Christopher Familia0-for-3, BB, 2 K
RF Garrett Martin0-for-3, CI, 3 K

LF Cole Gabrielson1-for-3, 2B (9), BB

RHP Jackson Fristoe: (L, 1-3)  5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, HR
3.58 ERA (37.2 IP, 27 H, 17 R, 15 ER, 2 HR, 27 BB, 40 K). This is the second time in his last three starts where he has limited walks (0 BB in 6 IP on 6/4). As I like to say, it is something to build on.
RHP Huey Morrill2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
RHP Cole Ayers1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
2.63 ERA (37.2 IP, 29 H, 15 R, 11 ER, 1 HR, 12 BB, 44 K). Expect a lot of movement among the relief prospects when the Yankees start promoting guys.

Tampa (23-41) (Lost to Palm Beach, 4-0)

3B Enmanuel Tejeda2-for-4, K
For Tampa: .328/.379/.395 in 133 PA. This comes with a .422 BABIP, so things will likely “normalize”. Remember that he is only 19 and performing well in a full-season league.
2B George Lombard Jr.: 1-for-3, HBP, K
.222/.359/.295 in 217 PA. He owns a 23.96% K rate, which isn’t great but won’t scare off evaluators, given it is his first full professional season.
SS Roderick Arias0-for-4, 2 K
Arias’ “hot streaks” are attributed to his athleticism. The raw skill is so high that he can live off that in the lower minors. Heck, Estevan Florial has lived off that throughout his minor-league career. He is still young and has time on his side. However, improving your ability to make contact is one of the hardest things for a hitter to learn.
1B Dylan Jasso0-for-4, 2 K
CF Jackson Castillo0-for-4
DH Hans Montero0-for-3, 2 K
LF Willy Montero0-for-2, HBP, K
Montero’s 12-game hitting streak is snapped.
C Tomas Frick0-for-3
RF Daury Arias1-for-3, K

RHP Cade Austin: (L, 1-3) 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Austin’s first professional start (he started only 3 games in college). This was an emergency start.

CF Jasson Dominguez1-for-3, BB
For Scranton: .394/.412/.667 in 34 PA (3 doubles, 2 HR, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 SB). His single tonight was another scorcher – he seems to hit everything hard.
1B Ben Rice0-for-3, BB, 2 K

RHP Gerrit Cole4.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 10 K
Cole tossed 70 pitches tonight, as he struck out 10+ batters for the first time in his minor league career (that isn’t a typo!). Will he throw 90 pitches against Baltimore/Atlanta next time or will have one more rehab start? I would bring him back to New York, personally.
LHP Oddanier Mosqueda1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K

Somerset (29-31) (Lost to Binghamton, 9-7)

DH Spencer Jones1-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 BB, K
Jones has drawn five walks in his last four games (one in his first eight June games). Before this stretch, he homered in three of four games. Furthermore, he has 15 RBI this month. It’s an encouraging stretch for him to build on.
C Agustin Ramirez2-for-5, 2B (13), RS, 2 K
Ramirez has six multi-hit efforts in his last 12 games. He has doubled in three straight contests.
SS Ben Cowles0-for-5, K
Cowles’ June hasn’t been great (.265/.308/.327). A slump was inevitable as all players have slumps. He is still hitting .307/.382/.486.
3B Tyler Hardman: 2-for-4, 2B (1), 2 RS, SB (1), 2 K
  2B Alexander Vargas1-for-1, HR (1), RBI, RS
Vargas tied the game with one out in the top of the 9th. He isn’t the most likely of sources for a game-tying blast, but he hit 9 HR in 103 games for Hudson Valley last year.
CF Elijah Dunham1-for-4, RBI, RS, BB, 3 K
LF J.C. Escarra3-for-4, RBI, BB, K

LHP Kyle Carr: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K
An impressive night for Carr, who lowers his ERA to 6.07 (46 IP, 51 H, 39 R, 31 ER, 3 HR, 33 BB, 44 K). The 8 strikeouts are a new personal best (this is his first season). The Yankees were aggressive placing him at this level. Will it pay off? It is still too early to tell.

LF Brian Sanchez 4-for-5, 2B (9), HR (3, grand slam), 4 RBI, 2 RS, 3 SB (10), BB, K
Sanchez hit a walk-off grand slam, as he sets new personal bests for hits and RBI in a game. This is a stat line that most players will never put up in their careers. Season: .378/.427/.676 in 88 PA (9 doubles, 2 triples, 3 HR, 16 RBI, 20 R, 10-for-11 SB, 14.8% BB, 22.7% K)

News:

OF Everson Pereira was placed on the full-season injured list by Scranton. As you might be able to guess, that means he is done for the year.

Pereira will end the season at .265/.346/.512 (118 wRC+) in 182 PA for Scranton. He swatted 10 home runs and drove in 27. However, his strikeout rate was up (32.4%).

Injuries are a part of his story, but he accumulated 448 plate appearances in 2022 and 446 in 2023.

Pereira likely had trade value. That is no longer the case. With Jasson Dominguez‘s rehab stint over, Pereira’s value as big-league depth was lower, but you never want to lose depth.

Hopefully, Pereira can get back on the field in 2025.

Scranton (40-26) (Lost to Rochester, 5-4)

3B Jorbit Vivas2-for-4, RBI, SB (1), CS (4), BB
SS Oswald Peraza0-for-5, 2 K
C Ben Rice0-for-5, 2 K
So much for the Ben Rice Experiment…seriously, this is the first time he hasn’t reached base in eight Triple-A games.
1B T.J. Rumfield2-for-3, RS, BB
For Scranton: .305/.362/.458 in 196 PA. He is on a 5-game hitting streak (multiple hits in all games: 12-for-23).
DH Carlos Narvaez0-for-2, RS, 2 BB, K
Narvaez has a .376 OBP (16.2% BB)
RF Jose Rojas1-for-4, HR (12), 3 RBI, RS, K
Rojas has 12 homers and 42 RBI. A mostly unnoticed transaction last week was that he opted out of his contract, only to be re-signed. This likely means the Yankees offered him a little extra money to re-sign (and he couldn’t find an MLB opportunity)
LF Taylor Trammell0-for-3, BB, 2 K
CF Greg Allen2-for-3, 2B (7), RS, HBP
2B Josh VanMeter0-for-4

RHP Will Warren5.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, HR
Warren was cruising along until a 3-run homer in the 6th. His ERA is still north of 7.00 (7.01) but has shown signs of breaking out of his slump (he owns a 2.81 ERA in 16 June innings).
RHP Matt Sauer: (L, 0-1) 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, HR
LHP Clayton Andrews1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K

Somerset (29-30) (Bombarded Binghamton, 12-5)

CF Spencer Jones0-for-5, RBI, RS, SB (16), K
1B Agustin Ramirez2-for-5, 2B (12), 2 RBI, RS, SB (13)
Ramirez is hitting .289/.374/.569 in 243 PA (12 doubles, 1 triple, 15 HR, 46 RBI, 44 R, 13-for-14 SB). He is making his share of errors at first base, but that is the learning process.
3B Ben Cowles0-for-3, 2 RS, SB (11), 2 BB, K
.314/.390/.498 in 241 PA.
DH Tyler Hardman: 2-for-4, 2 RBI, RS, BB, K
Hardman was promoted here today. This is where he spent 2023.
LF Grant Richardson0-for-4, RS, BB, 2 K
C J.C. Escarra: 3-for-4, 2 2B (13), HR (3), 4 RBI, 3 RS
Back-to-back 4-RBI efforts for Escarra. Yes, I know he is a 29-year-old non-prospect. I like to highlight strong performances. As for catching, he has never done it before 2024.
RF Elijah Dunham3-for-4, 2B (6), HR (4), 3 RBI, 2 RS, K
2B Anthony Seigler0-for-3, SB (10), BB
SS Alexander Vargas2-for-4, RS, K

LHP Brock Selvidge5 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 9 K, HR
3.25 ERA (63.2 IP, 48 H, 31 R, 23 ER, 4 HR, 32 BB, 66 K).
RHP Danny Watson1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
3.38 ERA (6.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K). Watson is still in “rehab” mode even if he was never on an official rehab assignment.
LHP Ryan Anderson2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K
2.66 ERA (23.2 IP, 19 H, 9 R, 7 ER, 1 HR, 5 BB, 28 K). Anderson compiled a 1.01 ERA in 26.2 IP (27/12 K/BB) at this level in 2023. If he continues to perform, someone will give him a shot. This is not a knock on the Yankees.
RHP Kevin Stevens1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Hudson Valley (32-27) (Squeaked past Brooklyn, 6-5)

2B Roc Riggio1-for-4, 2B (8), RBI, RS, K
SS Jared Serna2-for-4, 2B (19), 2 RBI, K
In his last seven games, Serna has seven doubles. He is hitting .274/.375/.504 in 269 PA (19 doubles, 11 HR, 46 RBI, 43 R, 8-for-14 SB, 13.0% BB, 17.5% K). The presence of Riggio has pushed Serna to shortstop for most of the season. As I like to write about, that increases value. However, most “experts” see him as a second baseman long-term. He should get to Somerset when they start to promote players.
LF Jesus Rodriguez1-for-4, RS
Rodriguez increases his hitting streak to 6 (10-for-24). I wouldn’t be able to tell you if you asked me to find his fatal flaw. That said, he must prove this is real in the upper minors. That is how you get noticed for a player who doesn’t appear on many prospect lists.
DH Rafael Flores1-for-4, HR (5), 2 RBI, RS, K
.308/.416/.503 in 190 PA. He is 15-for-41 in June with a pair of doubles and three home runs.
C Omar Martinez1-for-4, 2B (7)
RF Christopher Familia0-for-4, 2 K
3B Josh Moylan1-for-4, 2 RS, K
1B Kiko Romero0-for-2, 2 BB, K
CF Nelson Medina1-for-3, 3B (1), RS

RHP Sebastian Keane: (W, 5-4) 5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR
4.85 ERA (52 IP, 51 H, 29 R, 28 ER, 4 HR, 27 BB, 48 K). That may not overwhelm you, but remember that Keane was a reliever in 2023.
RHP Trent Sellers1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
RHP Mason Vinyard1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K
2.60 ERA (17.1 IP, 11 H, 10 R, 5 ER, 2 HR, 8 BB, 26 K)
RHP McKinley Moore: (S, 1) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Tampa (23-37) (Lost to Clearwater, 7-3, in a rain-shortened game)

2B Enmanuel Tejeda1-for-3, RS, 2 SB (14), K
For Tampa: .330/.383/.398 in 116 PA (14-for-17 SB).
SS George Lombard Jr.: 0-for-2, SF, RBI
DH Roderick Arias0-for-3, 3 K
3B Dylan Jasso0-for-0, HBP
  PH-3B Hans Montero0-for-1, BB, K
CF Jackson Castillo0-for-2, BB, K
RF Willy Montero1-for-2, HR (5), RBI, RS, K
Montero has four home runs in his last six games. The 19-year-old hit .331/.389/.436 in 203 plate appearances in the FCL last season. He started slow in 2024 and is still recovering but is up to .229 with a .644 OPS.
1B Coby Morales2-for-2, 3B (1), RS
LF Daury Arias0-for-2, 2 K
C Oscar Silverio1-for-2, 2B (1), RBI
Silverio finally gets to the plate (he played in five games before tonight without receiving a plate appearance, pitching in three of them!)

RHP Gabriel Barbosa5 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 3 HR
On the bright side, this goes in the record books as a complete game.

FCL (17-11) (Defeated the Blue Jays, 5-4)

C Josue Gonzalez: 1-for-4, RBI, BB, 2 K
3B Abrahan Ramirez2-for-4, 2B (5), RS, SB (4), K
CF Brian Sanchez0-for-4, K
He is still hitting .348/.451/.609 after today’s effort. Sanchez is a candidate for Low-A when promotions start happening. He turns 20 on the 4th of July.
SS Juan Matheus2-for-4, RBI, RS, 2 SB (5), 2 K
.274/.379/.411 in 87 PA. He has started 21 games, 20 at shortstop. That gets my attention. He is 20 years old (won’t be 21 until next April).
LF Joel Mendez2-for-4, 2 RS, K
A 21-year-old in his second FCL season should crush this level, and he is.
2B Sebastian Gomez2-for-3, 2B (1), CS (3), BB
RF Fidel Montero0-for-2, SF, RBI, BB, K

RHP Bryce Warrecker: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

DSL Yankees (2-6) (Lost to the DSL Twins, 7-2)

LF Gabriel Lara2-for-3, 2 RS, 3 SB (3)
Lara is one of the few DSL prospects that has my attention.  Before you ask, this isn’t because I think the level lacks talent. Rather, many players at this level are interchangeable. Lara has a top-tier tool (80-grade speed) to build on.

RHP Michell Chirinos4.2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
RHP Josue Silvestre: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
The professional debut for the 6’7″ 19-year-old.

DSL Bombers (4-3) (Defeated the Phillies Red, 12-7 (12 runs, 5 hits (all singles), 9 walks, 5 HBP. I “love” the DSL….)

CF Francisco Vilorio2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 RS, 4 SB (4), BB, K
Besides Lara, Vilorio has my attention because he is a bonus baby. The 17-year-old is 7-f0r-21.
SS Christofer Reyes1-for-3, 2 RS, SB (4), 2 RS, HBP
RF Richard Meran1-for-2, RBI, 2 RS, 2 HBP
3B Andry Javier1-for-3, 2 RBI, RS, BB

LHP Jose Ledesma (W, 1-0): 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Ledesma’s first professional win – congrats!
