News:
Nothing to report.
Scranton (38-41; 3-1 in the second half) (Outscored Syracuse, 10-8. The Railriders trailed 7-1 going into the top of the 5th)
CF Estevan Florial: 2-for-3, RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB, 2 SB (18), CS (9)
Florial is closing in on being the second 20/20 player in the minors this season (Trey Cabbage (LAA) is already there)
SS Oswald Peraza: 2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB
I mentioned a recent slump he was in down here. To be honest, it barely registers with me because we know he can hit this level of pitching. Anyway, he has back-to-back multi-hit games to get himself going again.
C Ben Rortvedt: 1-for-4, 2B (5), 2 RBI, 2 RS, BB, 2 K
1B Andres Chaparro: 2-for-5, 3 RBI, K
Chaparro had a 16-pitch AB that resulted in a strikeout. Anyway, he has driven in 53 runs this season and has driven home 3+ runs eight times. As for why he left the game, he was ejected.
2B Jesus Bastidas: 0-for-0
LF Elijah Dunham: 0-for-4, BB, 2 K, SB (12)
DH Rodolfo Duran: 0-for-5, 3 K
RF Franchy Cordero: 1-for-4, HR (6), RBI, RS, BB, K
PR-RF Brandon Lockridge: 0-for-0
3B Jamie Westbrook: 1-for-4, 2B (8), 2 RS, BB, K
2B-1B Max Burt: 1-for-3, RS, BB, K
LHP Tanner Tully: 4 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 2 HR
RHP Deivi Garcia: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
4.93 ERA (34.2 IP, 32 H, 21 R, 19 ER, 6 HR, 26 BB, 34 K)
RHP Colten Brewer: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Matt Bowman: (W, 4-0) 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
RHP Michael Feliz: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
RHP Aaron McGarity (S, 3): 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
Somerset (46-28; 4-2 in the second half) (Lost to Bowie, 5-4)
CF Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-5, 3 K
Eek.
DH Austin Wells: 1-for-2, 2B (13), RS, 2 BB, K
.249/.348/.486 in 210 PA at this level (13 doubles, 10 HR, 40 RBI, 26 R, 27 BB, 50 K). He has 22 doubles and 22 HR in 102 Double-A games.
3B Tyler Hardman: 0-for-4, K
.245/.331/.571 in 245 PA. He has 19 home runs, three short of his personal best set last season. He has played in 53 fewer games.
1B T.J. Rumfield: 2-for-4, HR (15), 2 RBI, RS, K
.220/.314/.469 in 245 PA (7 doubles, 15 HR, 42 RBI, 34 R, 27 BB, 44 K, 7-for-9 SB). His BABIP currently sits at .200. There is no guarantee that a BABIP will normalize during the course of a season, but one would expect his to normalize at least a bit in the second half.
C Josh Breaux: 1-for-4, HR (1), RBI, RS, K
An injury + the emergence of other catching options has pushed Breaux down a bit. Just remember that he hit 42 HR in 184 games between 2021-2022.
RF Jeisson Rosario: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K
LF Aaron Palensky: 0-for-3, BB, 2 K
2B Matt Pita: 2-for-4, RS, CS (1)
SS Delvin Perez: 2-for-4, K
RHP Yoendrys Gomez: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K
1.37 ERA (19.2 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 13 BB, 18 K)
LHP Edgar Barclay: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K
16.2 IP, 11 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 8 BB, 26 K. Barclay was a 15th-round pick in the 2019 draft and has pitched well from the moment he signed on the dotted line.
RHP Jesus Liranzo: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
LHP Lisandro Santos: (L, 1-2) 0.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
RHP Tanner Myatt: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
Hudson Valley (42-33; 3-3 in the second half) (Walloped Wilmington, 11-0, in a 5-inning rain-shortened affair)
CF Spencer Jones: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, K
Jones has hit safely in four straight games after a bit of a slump.
SS Alexander Vargas: 1-for-4, RS
Last 6 games: 8-for-22. Unless he goes on an insane hot streak, he won’t be able to overcome his extreme cold streak. However, he has an entire second half to show everyone that he is adjusting to this level.
DH Agustin Ramirez: 3-for-3, 2 2B (3), RBI, RS, BB
Ramirez (a catcher) is 9-for-17 with three doubles and a home run since his promotion. Overall, he is hitting .269/.396/.438 in 250 PA (10 doubles, 8 HR, 37 RBI, 39 R, 44 BB, 42 K, 7-for-11 SB). You should start seeing him climb on Yankees’ prospect lists.
C Rafael Flores: 1-for-4, RS
1B Spencer Henson: 2-for-3, 2B (12), 3 RS
.260/.348/.464 in 224 PA (12 doubles, 9 HR, 33 RBI, 39 R, 20 BB, 57 K). He probably deserves a look in Somerset, but Rumfield is occupying first base and they rotate the DH spot.
RF Anthony Garcia: 1-for-1, RBI, 2 RS, 2 BB
LF Aldenis Sanchez: 2-for-3, 2B (9), 2 RBI, 2 RS, SB (13)
Sanchez has a 5-game hitting streak.
3B Eduardo Torrealba: 0-for-3, RBI
2B Luis Santos: 1-for-3, 3B (2), 2 RBI, RS
RHP Drew Thorpe: (W, 7-1) 5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K
Thorpe has allowed one run in his last 33.2 innings (0.27 ERA). Overall, he is pitching to a 2.33 ERA in 77.1 IP (58 H, 24 R, 20 ER, 4 HR, 25 BB, 94 K). He certainly appears to be in line for a promotion.
Tampa (35-39; 2-3 in the second half) (Defeated Daytona, 3-2)
SS Jared Serna: 1-for-4, HR (14), 2 RBI, RS, K
Serna breaks his 11-game homerless drought. He is hitting .287/.349/.495 in 318 PA.
3B Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-3, BB, K, SB (10)
.291/.376/.419 in 235 under-the-radar plate appearances. He has 75 walks (12.3%) and 81 strikeouts (13.3%) in 610 career PA.
CF Anthony Hall: 0-for-4, 3 K
C Omar Martinez: 0-for-4, 3 K
DH Daury Arias: 0-for-2, HBP
2B Brett Barrera: 1-for-3
RF Jake Palmer: 0-for-3, K
LF Felix Negueis: 0-for-3
1B Ronny Rojas: 1-for-2, HR (5), RBI, RS, BB, K
The 21-year-old has been with the organization since back in 2018. This is his first taste of full-season ball.
RHP Baron Stuart: 6.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR
4.96 ERA (45.1 IP, 44 H, 32 R, 25 ER, 7 HR, 22 BB, 44 K)
RHP Alex Bustamante: (W, 3-0) 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K
3.16 ERA (31.1 IP, 19 H, 15 R, 11 ER, 0 HR, 23 BB, 32 K). He hasn’t allowed a home run in 36.1 career innings.
RHP Manny Ramirez: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
RHP Cole Ayers (S, 3): 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K
FCL Yankees (12-9) (Crushed the Phillies, 13-4)
2B Keiner Delgado: 1-for-5, HR (3), RBI, 2 RS, SB (14)
If you are going to go 1-for-5, make the “1” a leadoff home run. He was pulled late in the game – probably means nothing, but something to watch.
3B Angel Rojas: 0-for-0, RS, BB
SS Roderick Arias: 2-for-4, HR (4), RBI, 3 RS, 2 BB, K
Arias is on a 9-game hitting streak. Prior to the streak, he was in a 0-for-22 slump. Go ahead – figure out baseball.
3B-2B Hans Montero: 1-for-4, RBI, BB, HBP, 2 K, SB (8)
Montero continues his solid campaign – he is now hitting .347/.525/.625 in 99 PA with a perfect 8-for-8 stolen base rate. He has driven in 16 runs while scoring 20 times.
DH Enmanuel Tejeda: 1-for-3, BB, 2 K
Not all of them will make it (because how often does that happen in MLB?), but the FCL is overloaded with infielders. All four players at the top of the lineup today are 2B/SS types.
CF Willy Montero: 2-for-5, HR (1), 4 RBI, RS, BB, K
So far in his career, the 18-year-old has been close to as an exclusive CF as you can get without actually being one: 67 starts in CF, 4 in RF, 1 in LF.
RF John Cruz: 1-for-5, RS, BB, 2 K, CS (1)
LF Joel Mendez: 1-for-4, 2B (2), 2 RS, BB, 2 K
C Edinson Duran: 2-for-4, 3B (2), 2 RBI, 2 RS, K
Get those triples out of the way while your knees are still young, kid.
1B Enger Castellano: 2-for-5, 2B (3), 2 RBI, RS, K
RHP Luis Serna: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, HR
For now, the results are meaningless – we just need him to be healthy.
LHP Henry Lalane: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Lalane is a big kid, so you worry about the BB%. In his debut 2021 campaign, he walked 13.3% of the batters he faced. Last year, he was able to chop that down to 7.1% while increasing his strikeout rate from 20.7% to 26.3%.
LHP Allen Facundo (W, 2-0): 3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K
The 20-year-old out of Venezuela has a 0.69 ERA in 13 IP (6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 HR, 10 BB, 20 K)
RHP Sebastian Keane: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
When it comes to pitchers like Keane, who likely has no business here, all they can do is perform and wait. He now has 22 strikeouts in 13.2 IP.
LHP Miguel Pozo: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Sometimes I wonder if the Yankees even have three LHP in their entire system – never mind having three who pitch in the same game!
DSL Bombers (11-10) (Lost to DSL Colorado, 6-4)
DH Geyber Blanco: 1-for-3, 2B (7), RS, HBP, K
The 17-year-old is 17-for-51 (.333) with seven doubles in his debut season.
LF Abrahan Ramirez: 2-for-3, RBI, RS
The 18-year-old is hitting .324/.447/.448 in 132 PA in 2022-2023. He was signed for $30,000 in 2022.
RHP Chalniel Arias (L, 1-1): 3.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
2.19 ERA (24.2 IP, 22 H, 12 R, 6 ER, 1 HR, 5 BB, 39 K)
RHP Mitchell Chirinos: 3.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
LHP Rafelin Nivar: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
Nivar was a $10,000 signing during the 2022 signing period.
DSL Yankees (15-5) (Squeaked past the DSL Rockies squad, 7-6)
CF Brando Mayea: 1-for-4, 2 RS, BB, K, SB (10)
.289/.385/.467 in 52 PA (5 doubles, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 11 R, 6 BB, 11 K, 10-for-10 SB)
C Josue Gonzalez: 2-for-2, 2 2B (9), RBI, 2 RS, BB
The 19-year-old is off to an 18-for-40 (.450) start with 18 RBI, 17 R, and 20 BB in 13 games.
SS Luis Suarez: 1-for-4, RBI, BB, SB (9)
RF Jose Castro: 2-for-3, 2 RBI, BB, K
3B Anthony Pena: 3-for-4, 2B (3), 3B (1), RBI, 3 RS, K
The 17-year-old is 9-for-27 in his debut season.
RHP Jorge Luna: 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, HR
RHP Alexis Paulino: 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
